"It is important to ensure that the basic mine hoist plant design fundamentals are incorporated into any new mine hoist plant project before detailed design engineering is commenced. Some of the basic design fundamentals to be considered are: hoist rope fleet and flight angles for good hoist rope coiling, hoist rope harmonic frequency study to ensure that the hoist rope does not run at full speed at a rope resonance frequency, head frame and shaft clearance diagrams to establish the optimum positions for the loading and dumping of the shaft conveyances, access in the head frame and shaft collar for hoist rope and shaft conveyance installation and removal. Failure to consider the hoist plant fundamentals before detailed engineering commences will result in extra costs for hoist plant redesign or a significant increase in operating and maintenance costs for the mine due to increased hoist plant downtime to perform tasks and a lower mine operating efficiency. INTRODUCTION The mine hoisting plant is the most critical single line component in the operation of a shaft sinking operation or a permanent installation. Bad decisions in the design and selection of the hoist plant equipment can significantly add to the operating costs and up-time in the operation of the mine. Mine hoisting plant equipment installed costs represent approximately 5 to 8 percent of the capital cost of a new mine, yet price sometimes becomes the deciding factor for procuring the hoist plant components, sometimes selecting used equipment that may compromise the design and maintainability of the mine hoist plant. Mine downtime can cost upwards of $100,000 per hour and it will not take a very long time to eat up all the so-called savings on hoist plant equipment purchases. This paper will provide guidelines for the design, selection, installation and maintenance of mine hoist plant equipment with the objective to having the right mine hoist plant with the highest operational availability and best maintainability. PRELIMINARY DESIGN INFORMATION Before any engineering commences, the following information needs to be obtained to allow the preliminary sizing of the hoist plant equipment: • Shaft depth: The shaft depth will influence the hoist rope selection based on the material and personnel loads anticipated for the mine design. The shaft depth will also influence the maximum speed of the shaft conveyances. • Annual production: The desired annual production will influence the required payload sizing with allowances for maintenance and inspections of the hoist plant equipment."

"Abstract -The Magino gold mine is located 45 km northeast of Wawa, Ontario. There was limit­ ed gold production in the Iate thirties. The present operation was officially opened in October 1988 and produced gold until September 1992. It was a 635 tonnes per day, decline-accessed mine, with ore coming from several small blast hole and shrinkage stopes.The host for the gold is the Webb Lake granodiorite stock which was intruded into the Goudreau Lake Deformation Zone. This east-northeast-striking deformation zone overprints the generally east­ west-striking isoclinally folded metavolcanic and metasedimentary rocks, which make up the east end of the Michipicoten greenstone belt. The ore-shoots are controlled by dextral delatancy associated with the Goudreau Lake Deformation Zone. Shearing, bleaching and silicification accompanied the gold emplacement."

"IntroductionThe leaching method selected for the dissolving of uranium ore depends in part on the physical characteristics of the ore, as well as the uranium mineralization. There are two main methods of leaching employed in uranium circuits in North America, one being ""Carbonate Leaching"" on sandstone, and pitchblende type ores, and ""Acid Leaching"", on quartzite type ores.This chapter deals with the acid leaching of uranium ores found in the Elliot Lake area, using sulphuric acid, for the leaching reagent, and ""pachucas"" for the contactor.The basic leaching process involves the pregrinding of the ore and the mixing of the ore with hot sulphuric acid, the mixture is air agitated, the air being used to oxidize the ore as well as produce agitation. Within the Elliot Lake orebodies are minerals such as chlorite schist, diabase, and basement material, all very high acid consumers, consuming up to 1000 lbs. of acid per ton of ore. It was started by Sun Oil of Philadelphia. Construction began in 1965, with the first production coming on September 1967.Details of Present Milling Practice (Plant 3)Plant 3 recovers bitumen from the oil sand using the Clark hot water process. The basic steps in the process are conditioning, primary recovery, secondary recovery and tailings oil recovery.Oil Sand Feed SystemThe oil sand feed from the mine is transferred to the feed bin in extraction by two conveyor systems. Oil sand analyzers on each conveyor system measure the amount of bitumen and fines in the ore. Cones at the bottom of the feed bin distribute the oil sand to five process lines. Feed flow from each cone is regulated by an apron feeder which transfers the oil sand to conveyors that discharge into the conditioning drums. Weightometers on each of these five conveyors measure the rate at which the oil sand is delivered into the drums. The oil sand feed rate to each drum can be adjusted by varying the speed of the apron feeders."

The last coal-fired power plant to be built in Canada came into operation in 1994. Since then, Canada?s electricity requirements have grown substantially but no new coal-burning plants have been built. This country has abundant resources of coal from coast to coast, but in recent years, this has not affected our choice of fuel. In many other countries this is not the case, and the use of coal is growing rapidly. Although this presentation covers the topic from an Alberta perspective, some of the conclusions can be extrapolated to the rest of the country, and perhaps even to other countries. The coal found in the Alberta plains is particularly attractive because of its low cost and low sulphur content. Yet coal is no longer the fuel of choice, and a long-standing provincial government policy to favour coal for electricity generation has been ignored for more than a decade. Considering the lack of good alternatives, it seems obvious that we should look to coal as our primary energy source in the generation of electricity and for other industrial applications. This paper discusses some of the reasons that coal has fallen out of favour, particularly with respect to electricity generation. The significance of the deregulation of the electricity industry will not be ignored. In addition, the author will offer his opinion on the question of what it will take in order for coal to once again become the favoured fuel.

Increases in productivity and improvements in mining occupational safety and health are intrinsically linked. Over the past years, the German Hard Coal Mining Industry has been able to accomplish both: an increase in coal production and, at the same time, a significantly reduction of accidents. This success has been achieved by advances in technology, better organization and investment in people. Since 1990 productivity has more than doubled, while the total number of accidents has been reduced by more than 90%. Further development started initially with the mechanisation of the winning and drivage technology. Innovative technology and standardisation of the mining equipment were one reason for the increase in productivity and reduction of the accident rate. Therefore this technical development was not only one important pillar of the TOM model explicated later but also the requirement for the successful development of the other pillars. In addition to further developing this innovative technology it was possible to realise procedural and organisational improvements. As a result, the above achievement is based on implementing the three pillars of the so-called "TOM" model (technology, organization, ?Mensch? = human). To increase safety, improve performance, raise awareness and change of employees? attitude, the following technical and organizational requirements have been introduced: ??New innovative technology and procedures, standardized techniques and better equipment. ??Measures to revise or redefine the organizational structure, processes and systems of work, which were then integrated into the company policy and procedures as a company management tool. ??Personnel measures (investment in people). These include, improving motivation and behaviour, training, communication to raise and to change awareness of safety issues. Success in Occupational Health and Safety is not an automatic or self-regulating process. It needs hard work to make improvements and it must be treated as a recurring cyclic process. As a result of the above, occupational health and safety has become a natural part of daily work in the German Hard Coal Mining Industry. This could only be achieved by the unconditional "commitment" of all managers and employees to the issues, coupled with discipline and responsible action. Further improvements towards the ultimate aim of "zero" accidents are only possible by mutual involvement in implementing the ?TOM? (technology, organization and ?Mensch? human) model.

"IN any opportunity such as I am now given, I suppose that one should not fail to say that what the world has to offer to this year's graduates in science and in engineering is the greatest promise ever held out. High-ranking new scientists and engineers -particularly those with the Ph.D. degree -find themselves in an apparently delightful situation; the glow of attention that surrounds them and the dazzling starting salaries that are offered to them may indeed be turning their heads a bit and the attitudes of some of them are sometimes expressed with a smugness that can find its equivalent only in freshmen. On the average, however, the new graduates are, without any doubt, the best trained ever, or at least they have been the most expensive to train in the universities.There appear to be exciting opportunities for competent, well-trained and educated scientists and engineers far beyond the numbers that can be annually produced, and the demands for excellence in depth as well as in breadth of training probably will continue to increase for many years to come. The problem is visible all around us in Canada that there is much more money to buy brains than there are brains to be bought."

"In 2017, Nutrien Allan Potash remediated a portion of the concrete liner in the production shaft. A set of underslung work platforms and collection boxes were used in conjunction with hydraulic splitters, jackleg drills and hand chippers to excavate and remove the broken concrete. New concrete was placed with the original pressure relief design, using a shaft slip form. Shortly after excavating, it was found that the estimated breaking rate and amount of original concrete in-situ was under estimated. Fifteen feet of excavated concrete (2719cu.ft) and ten feet (of replaced concrete was completed on April 28, 2017, and operation of the production shaft was returned to mine operations. During February 2019, Nutrien Allan Potash began remediation of a portion of the concrete liner in the service shaft. The project is different than the 2017 project, as the remediation has occurred during normal running operations and occurred only on night shift. Rather than hydraulic splitters and hand chippers, the new method includes a concrete saw and mechanical excavator from a working platform. The selected method is based on the lessons learned from the 2017 project in the production shaft. The service shaft project was scheduled to be completed in July, 2019. INTRODUCTION Nutrien Allan Potash is located approximated 75 km east of the city of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. There are currently two shafts at Nutrien Allan Potash: the Production Shaft and the Service Shaft, transporting people and material from surface to a depth of 3,335 ft. The Production Shaft was completed in 1967, with one section of grey cast iron tubbing installed in the Blairmore formation between the 1605 and 2037 ft Levels. A second set of cast iron tubbing was installed in the Duperow formation between 2203 and 2463 ft Levels in 1999. The remainder of the concrete as of todays standards is designed as a pressure relief liner. The Service Shaft was completed in 1968, with one section of grey cast iron tubbing installed in the Blairmore formation between the 1600 and 2048 ft Levels. A second set of cast iron tubbing was installed in 1981, with 169 ft installed through the Duperow formation. The remainder of the concrete as of todays standards is designed as a pressure relief liner. PRODUCTION SHAFT REMEDIATION During the second quarter of 2015, the Mine Engineering team were notified of an area of concern in the production shaft. The shaft specialists of Golder Associates Ltd (Golder, formerly Alan Auld Canada) were contacted to complete an inspection of the production shaft liner with emphasis on the area of concern. Based on the inspection and documentation review, it was determined that the concrete at the 2804 foot elevation had been broken out for some time and was retained with #8 rebar bolts with resin encapsulation. The broken concrete was encroaching on the clearance to the conveyance."

Abstract - A method to extract certain types of error variance information from paired data is presented, which constitutes an important tool for the calibration of Gy’s formula for variance predictions in the sampling of broken ores. The research summarized here complements publications by others on geochemical precision. The model and method proposed for treating duplicate data provide a practical means of deriving separate estimates of the purely analytical and aliquot sampling variances, from a unique set of duplicate assays, and, hence, proposes a new avenue for estimating effective mineral grain size.

Katowice Coal Holding (KHW) is one of the largest coal companies in Europe. The company owns five coal mines with a daily output of around 60 000 tons of coal. In the Katowice city area, very good quality steam coal is extracted. The depth of mining varies between 400 and 1100 m and some of the mines rank amongst those most afflicted by methane in the Upper Silesian Coal Basin, with the methane hazard having a significant impact on production and safety. ?Myslowice-Wesola? mine, being a part of the Katowice Coal Holding is characterized by high methane and rockburst hazards. The mine is equipped with a modern surface drainage pumping station. At the mentioned mine, longwall 514 was selected for analysis of its methane emission. The longwall was extracting the thick seam 501 (over 4 m), at a depth of over 900 m, which was subject to high stress and high gas concentration conditions. At a distance of about 50 m above, seam 501 is covered by thin seam 416. The strata between these two seams are sandstone and mudstone layers. In the floor of seam 501, with a thin shale interlayer, is located seam 510, which is the thickest (over 10m) and richest coal seam in the Upper Silesian Coal Basin. In longwall 514 and it?s vicinity, methane was the dominant risk. For this longwall three methods of classical gas drainage were carried out. At first, drainage was undertaken using long boreholes from a cross-cut at level 665 m, located far from the production panel. Later, it was performed using typical boreholes drilled from the ventilation gallery (tail gate road). Finally, it was undertaken using a degassing drift executed in the upper coal seam 416. All of these headings, ie. cross-cut level 665 m, the ventilation road and conveyor road in seam 501 and the degassing drift in seam 416, were equipped with media for drilling and proper drainage pipelines. Due to the high rockburst hazard and some problems with caving, several kinds of de-stressing and torpedo blasts were carried out in both coal seams and roof rocks. The subsequent analysis and experiments allowed the establishment of some general rules for carrying out degassing operations effectively. The effectiveness of a degassing drift was demonstrated. In some instances, the system allowed more than 70% of the total methane released to be captured and fed into pipelines. The aforementioned blasts had a marginal impact on methane emissions and the efficiency of degassing methods. Cyclic drilling and regular switching of boreholes in phase with the mining progress and working face advance were shown to be essential.

Professor H.E.T. Haultain: To me from time to time the urge comes to say the agreeable thing as well as the disagreeable in commenting on the work of others. It is a prerogative of age. I don't apologize. To myself I justify my action as based on a long experience of the matters with which I deal, and I like to tell myself that I have a certain responsibility in such matters on account of my detached position. This Noranda article is a very fine contribution concerning Canadian milling, and I am surprised that no word of commendation or thanks has appeared concerning it in the BULLETIN. There is altogether too much written in these days by men rushing into print, concerning laboratory work, that has not been tied into, nor has resulted in application in the field. The authors of this paper have not rushed into print. The preparation of this paper was evidently an uncongenial task. If the authors had been that way inclined, it could have spread over several lengthy papers. It is an important article because it represents an enormous amount of work in the laboratory and the mill, extending over a period of sixteen years, and resulting in fine metallurgical and economic results with a very difficult and involved problem. It is a fine article because it is so well prepared and presented. It deals with an unusual ore condition, but there is much in it of use to every cyanide millman. It leaves very little room for criticism, though there may be differences of opinion in regard to some of the chemistry phases with which I am not conversant. I am struck by the enormous amount of persistent, painstaking, conscientious research work involved, and in the careful, sincere way in which the methods and difficulties have been described. Persistence and sincerity are the key note of the effort. It should have a good educational effect on the rising generation of millmen, and it should continue for long as a work of reference, and a spur to others. There has been an important by-product, the training and development of the young men engaged in the work. Three of them became superintendents of important mills. One was sought for important work in Africa, another has joined a large research organization in the United States.

The fair market value of an exploration property is determined by its potential to host a mineral deposit. This potential is gauged by the results of previous exploration, exploration stage, meaningful past expenditures and remaining targets that are not yet tested. Values of exploration properties can be viewed as distinct points in a three-dimensional space defined by orthogonal axes, namely: Exploration Stage (x-axis); Cumulative Expenditures (y-axis); and Property Value (z-axis). In general, these values are estimated by applying activity factors on previous exploration expenditures, e.g. an activity factor of 100% for an active property with good potential and a factor of 50% for an active property but past expenditures have not upgraded the property. At certain periods, a market factor may also be applied to reflect the activity of mineral property acquisitions. For properties that do not exhibit any exploration potential, only nominal values are applied.

YOU have been kind enough to ask me to speak to you on "The War and Anglo-American Relations." A speaker always takes the liberty of putting his own interpretation on the scope of his subject. I am going to exercise that privilege, and try to look back over a generation of Anglo-American relationships and forward beyond the present war. I should like particularly to consider responsibilities as well as relationships. A more accurate caption for what I am going to say would be "Anglo-American Responsibilities.?? THE WAR WILL BE WON I am assuming that sooner or later we shall win this war. History and economics point to the same conclusion, that Germany has attempted the impossible and that the seeds of defeat are already sown. As to one ecof1:omic factor, I am already on public record as believing that Germany's oil supply is inadequate for the war she has launched. That opinion is unchanged. Aside from such tangible factors, moreover, I am convinced that the spirit of freedom is unquenchable, and that no combination of powers will be able to rout it from the British Commonwealth of Nations and the United States. Stronger even than this conviction is my faith in a God who will not suffer the defeat of man's aspiration to be master of his own soul. I am sure that all of you share that faith, and that we need not argue it. We can start with the assumption that the war will end in victory. The subject we are to consider, then, is the relationship of the English-thinking peoples during the conflict, and their joint responsibilities in the difficult days that will follow it. A CANADIAN-AMERICAN No talk on such a subject is worth listening to unless the audience knows the background and fundamental beliefs of the speaker. No human statement stands alone; behind and beside and within it are the ideals and the bias of the man who makes it. Because I am a stranger to most of you, I am constrained to talk about myself before I talk about more important matters. The review may be profitable, not because of the subject, but because it may illustrate the evolution of an attitude toward England.

The present work evaluated the use of copper ore flotation tails as flux in the process of smelting copper concentrates. For this purpose, experimental and simulated liquidus lines were obtained at different ratios of tail/flux. Experimental variables included temperature, partial pressure of oxygen and sulfur dioxide and the conditions of tridymite or spinel saturation. The results indicate the feasibility of replacing the flux by increasing the temperature of the smelting process by 20°C. Results of simulation using FactSage and HSC confirm that the required increase in temperature can be achieved by increasing the flow of concentrate, enrichment of oxygen or increasing the matte grade. INTRODUCTION In the pyro-metallurgical process of copper production, the smelting stage produces two liquid phases, a sulphide phase rich in copper and another composed mainly of oxides called slag. The slag phase is the product of oxidation of the iron contained in the flotation concentrate. The smelting process which is carried out at temperatures of 1250°C, require the addition of silica as a flux and the injection of air enriched in oxygen (Schlesinger 2011). Currently, one of the most important aspects of the mining industry is the minimization of costs, the optimization of the use of available resources and the reduction of environmental impact. Under this context, the use of flotation tails from as a flux in the copper smelting process has the potential of reduced production costs and generate an environmental benefit by reduce the disposal amount of this waste material Regarding the use of copper tails as flux in the copper smelting process, a thermodynamic simulation study using the FactSage software had been reported in the literature (Parra et al., 2011). The results indicated an increase of 35°C in the temperature the liquidus for the equilibrium matte/spinel and a subsequent requirement of energy in the process of approximately 350 [MJ/ton slag]. Given that the calculated viscosity remains in the same order of magnitude, the melting temperature is a more relevant parameter for the evaluation of the use of tailings as flux.

"Many modern concentrators with VSD driven SAG mills still rely on the control room operator to manually adjust the speed in reaction to increasing bearing pressure. All too often, the problem with this strategy is by the time the operator reacts with a sudden speed increase, the SAG Mill is likely already on its way to loading up. To assist the new operators, the SAG Mill at B2Gold’s Fekola Mine in Mali needed a robust control that could handle load changes and unmeasured disturbances with minimal operator intervention. With modern Distributed Control Systems (DCS) powerful enough to run advanced control, they often have Model Predictive Control (MPC) blocks built in or available as an “add-on” license, and thus MPC can be readily implemented within the modern concentrator with a relatively low added capital cost. This paper discusses an implementation of two single output MPC controllers to control the SAG Mill at Fekola. This was implemented using the existing signals and advanced control blocks available to the installed DCS.INTRODUCTION Many modern concentrators with VSD driven SAG mills still rely on the control room operator to manually adjust the speed in reaction to increasing bearing pressure. The next step the operator may take may be to cut back the feed rate, or production until the SAG is once again stable. With this sudden reaction comes an abrupt change in SAG rotational speed and power consumption that sends a surge of material down the circuit as the mill suddenly ejects more pulp. Furthermore, choosing a higher rotational speed can lead to higher than normal liner wear as the cataract overshoots the toe of the charge and impacts the liners. After start-up at B2Gold’s Fekola Gold Mine in 2017, the SAG mill was being controlled manually. The SAG rotational speed was adjusted manually by the operator in step changes depending on whether the SAG bearing pressure was increasing, decreasing or stable. During this time of manual control, the SAG fresh feed rate was also adjusted to a tonnage setpoint with a PID controller. Generally, the SAG fresh feed rate setpoint was kept at a target value, but then the feed rate was throttled back if the SAG mill or grinding circuit showed signs of overloading. The extra challenges were that the operators had limited experience and were concurrently learning how the plant operated. Also, they were also occupied with managing situations in the rest of the plant. Often their attention was drawn away from the SAG mill and during that time, the SAG Mill would load up before they could react."

"The majority of Ontario's limestone and dolostone production comes from a few Paleozoic carbonate units. In eastern and central Ontario, Ordovician rock units, which are the main sources for production, include the Oxford, Gull River, Bobcaygeon, Verulam, and Lindsay Formations. They are predominantly utilized for aggregate and cement manufacturing, with the Bobcaygeon Formation being used as a source of building stone. Along the Niagara Escarpment, the Silurian Lockport, A mabel, and Guelph Formations are sources for the limestone industry. The largest tonnage of rock extracted by the industry comes f rom these Silurian units, especially the Lockport and Amabel Formations. These units are used primarily for aggregate, although they are also a source for lime. In southwestern Ontario, the Silurian Bertie Formation and Devonian strata, represented by the Bois Blanc Formation, Onondaga Formation, Detroit River Group, and Dundee Formation, contribute to Ontario's production of lime, cement production and crushed stone. The Detroit River Group (Lucas and Amherstburg Formations) is the main source of the lime and cement produced in the province.Northern areas, which may become significant sources for the industry, include Manitoulin Island, the Lake Timiskaming area, and the James Bay Lowland. IntroductionThe Engineering and Terrain Geology Section of the Ontario Geological Survey has undertaken a geological inventory of all active and abandoned limestone and dolostone quarries in Ontario. This geological study, combined with a commercial study of active quarries carried out by the consulting firm of Derry, Michener, Booth and Wahl, will provide an up-to-date report on the industry in the province and will be published by the Aggregate Resources Section of the Ministry of Natural Resources. This report will follow the format and style of D.F. Hewitt's Ontario Department of Mines Industrial Mineral Reports and Circulars (Hewitt, 1960, I964a, 1964b, 1964c; Hewitt and Vos, 1972). "The majority of Ontario's limestone and dolostone production comes from a few Paleozoic carbonate units. In eastern and central Ontario, Ordovician rock units, which are the main sources for production, include the Oxford, Gull River, Bobcaygeon, Verulam, and Lindsay Formations. They are predominantly utilized for aggregate and cement manufacturing, with the Bobcaygeon Formation being used as a source of building stone. Along the Niagara Escarpment, the Silurian Lockport, Amabel, and Guelph Formations are sources for the limestone industry. The largest tonnage of rock extracted by the industry comes from these Silurian units, especially the Lockport and Amabel Formations. These units are used primarily for aggregate, although they are also a source for lime. In southwestern Ontario, the Silurian Bertie Formation and Devonian strata, represented by the Bois Blanc Formation, Onondaga Formation, Detroit River Group, and Dundee Formation, contribute to Ontario's production of lime, cement production and crushed stone. The Detroit River Group (Lucas and Amherstburg Formations) is the main source of the lime and cement produced in the province.Northern areas, which may become significant sources for the industry, include Manitoulin Island, the Lake Timiskaming area, and the James Bay Lowland. IntroductionThe Engineering and Terrain Geology Section of the Ontario Geological Survey has undertaken a geological inventory of all active and abandoned limestone and dolostone quarries in Ontario. This geological study, combined with a commercial study of active quarries carried out by the consulting firm of Derry, Michener, Booth and Wahl, will provide an up-to-date report on the industry in the province and will be published by the Aggregate Resources Section of the Ministry of Natural Resources. This report will follow the format and style of D.F. Hewitt's Ontario Department of Mines Industrial Mineral Reports and Circulars (Hewitt, 1960, I964a, 1964b, 1964c; Hewitt and Vos, 1972). "Abstract- The accepted practice for the estimation of thin (2D) vein deposits recommends the use of the grade x thickness service variable (i.e., the accumulation). Grade estimates are obtained indirectly by the estimated accumulation/estimated thickness ratio. This practice stems from the varying support (thickness) problem and the resulting non-additive nature of the grade variable. We compare the actual performance of the direct grade estimation approach used by some practitioners to that of the indirect approach using accumulation. Our simulated and real data indicate that the direct approach is more accurate for point grade estimation where the grade-thickness correlation coefficient is positive (and vice-versa). Moreover, the relative gain of the direct method increases with the (positive) correlation coefficient. This finding contradicts common thinking that the indirect approach should be the preferred method where grade-thickness correlation is strongly positive. Also, for a given positive grade-thickness correlation, the relative gain of the direct method increases with the coefficient of variation of the grade and thickness. Résumé - L’estimation de veines minces (2D) minéralisées est normalement réalisée à l’aide de la variable auxiliaire épaisseur x teneur (i.e., accumulation). Les estimés des teneurs sont alors obtenus indirectement du rapport accumulation estimée/épaisseur estimée. Cette pratique découle du problème du support variable pour la teneur, l’épaisseur de la veine, qui fait que la teneur est alors une variable non-additive. Nous comparons les performances de l’estimation directe de la teneur, utilisée par certains praticiens, à celle de l’approche indirecte. Pour l’estimation ponctuelle des teneurs, nos données simulées et réelles indiquent une meilleure justesse de l’approche directe quand la corrélation teneur-épaisseur est positive (et vice-versa). De plus, le gain relatif de la méthode directe s’accroît avec la valeur de cette corrélation (positive). Ce résultat contredit l’opinion répandue que l’approche indirecte devrait être utilisée en présence de forte corrélation positive de la teneur et de l’épaisseur. Nous montrons également que pour une corrélation positive teneur-épaisseur donnée, le gain de l’approche directe augmente avec les coefficients de variation de l’épaisseur et de la teneur."
