This article presents results of studies performed to determine the feasibility of using low-grade limonite ores from Yunnan deposit. Laboratory tests and commercial trials have shown that the magnetic separation can be performed with a high high-grade concentrates. The quality of the preparation concentration meets the requirements for blast-furnace smelting. The results as a whole demonstrate the feasibility of utilizing bank limonite ore. Yunnan limonite?s magnetic separation, roasting magnetic separation and flotation experimental study shows that grade of the ore grade can been from 32.91% heighten to 58.64%, a recovery of iron is 90.87%, productive rate is 51% through orthogonal test optimization; roasting magnetic separation can obtain that the grade of iron preparation concentrate is 61.16%, recovery is 67.39%, productive rate is 36%. As far as economy and enviormental protection is concerned, strong mag-netic suggested a more appropriate process. Keywords: Limonite; Roast; Magnetic separation

It is generally accepted that the optimal flow velocity for gravity classification is the final particle settling velocity or, which is the same, the particle spin velocity. However, we have found differences between the settling velocities and the spin velocities of the very same particles. Here we present the results of experiments in a cascading gravitational classifier comprising eleven stages. The feed material was introduced at each stage successively, from the first to the eleventh. The optimal flow velocity was determined for each case. From these experiments it follows that the value of the optimal flow velocity depends to a greater extent on the point of introduction of the feed (i.e., on the design of the device) than it does on the interaction between the solid phase and the flow.

This investigation was carried out with low grade Murgul-Cakmakkaya copper ore once used to be dumped away as waste material. Sulphide minerals in the ore sample observed are chalcopyrite, pyrite, sphalerite and to some extent molibdenite; quartz, calcite and dolomite are the gangue minerals. The ore sample assays 0.28% Cu, 2.94% Fe and 3.36% S. Mineralogical study of the ore sample showed that adequate liberation of chalcopyrite for flota-tion was achieved below 100 µm. In flotation tests Aerophine 3418-A was the collector employed, NaOH or Ca(OH)2were the pH modifiers. Deactivators used were sodium meta bi-sulphide, starch, dextrin and lime. MIBC was the frother used throughout the tests. Test results showed that starch alone was the most suitable depressant to give the optimum metal content and recovery val-ues. Activated charcoal was used to adsorb excess collector species in the flotation pulp during cleaning stages After two stages cleaning of the rougher concentrate using starch as the depressant a copper concentrate assaying 21.2% Cu was obtained with 79.5% recovery while the tailings contained 0.01% Cu and metal losses were about 3%

Fly-ash was used as adsorbent to remove butyl xanthate from aqueous solution in this study. Adsorption kinetics investigation reveals that the adsorption process abides by the Lagergren-second-order Kinetic Model, and fine fly-ash prepared by grinding has a higher second-order adsorption rate as 1.25 g/mg?min and a higher saturated adsorption amount as 10.92mg/g. Four influencing factors as adsorption temperature, solution pH, consumption of fly-ash and adsorption time were investigated. Testing results indicate that butyl xanthate removal rates declines slightly with the temperature increase within the range of 15-50?, increases slightly when pH rises from 7.27 to 8.01 and then declines from 99.65% to 98.25% when pH rises from 8.01 to 11.10. An enhancement of removal rates can be observed by increasing the consumption of the adsorbing agent or prolonging the adsorption time. Thermal desorption was adopted to regenerate the used fly-ash, and test results show that fly-ash possess good regeneration performance and could be used as adsorbent repeatedly with little influence on the adsorption capacity.

Due to not to being our own sources, some energy sources such as oil and natural gas which are used frequently, are not reliable energy sources for our country. Coal is an important energy source that Turkey also has a certain reserve as many countries have. To be able to use for many years the reserves of this source that comes from fossils, there is a great need to make more investigation and development activities on it. On behalf of using more productively the current sources, briquetting facility is represented that commenced production in The Aegean Lignite Establishment in 2005 which is in Manisa, Soma. This facility is a part of General Directorate of Turkish Coal. This facility is run by Soma Coal Establishment that works in return for royalty in a licensed field that belongs to TKI. As the demand of market for 0.5 mm dust coal diminishes, we had to accumulate and stock unmerchantable dust coal. Besides, we have intermixed 0.5- 1 mm powder coal and 0.1 ? 0.5 mm fine powder coal obtained as a result of washing in coal washer with thermic coal with low price as we could not find a client in the market. In this study, the production stages of briquette coal with high quality produced as a result of pressing by mixing 0.5- 1 mm powder coal and 0.1 ? 0.5 mm fine powder coal with molasse and lime, quality control, and data?s obtained about calories and solidity of products were presented. By briquetting of 0.5- 1 mm powder coal and 0.1 ? 0.5 mm fine powder coal washed in coal washer, it became possible to sell these coals on a high unit price and by providing the demand of coal of the market, we contributed to productivity of our firm. As opposed to large household appliances, in the processing of which dissambling has an important role, this possibility is pushed into the background as the size decreases. The practicable solution is physical liberation of the used small electronic household devices (by comminution) and separation of the liberated components according to their physical properties. In the first phase of the experimental work the structural/material composition of the typical products (mixer, kitchen robot, hair dryer, coffee machine, iron, bread toaster, vacuum cleaner, oil fryer) was determined. In the second phase a physical liberability test for each appliance using a rotary shear/shredder for crushing and a hammer shredder for milling was carried out. In the third phase the experimental separability tests using an air classifier and a shaking air table, as well as an eddy-current and an electrostatic separator were performed. In the present paper the results obtained using the air classifier and the electrostatic separator, are reported. To follow the life of a grain a new methodological procedure was elaborated. The particle size fractions after comminution were sorted into material fractions (copper, aluminium, plastics, etc.), then separated, and finally the recovery of the material components in the products were determined. Furthermore, the joint separability was investigated from two points of view: 1) for grain fractions and 2) for each waste appliance. "The purpose of this research is the development of a technology for processing the concentration tailings of limonite ores at Kamysh-Burun Mining and Processing Complex into an iron- containing product for ROMELT process. In the concentration and metallurgical processing of iron ores, substantial amounts of waste are generated (tailings, slimes, slags, metallurgical dust, etc.) that can be converted into a commercial product if is properly processed. This article presents the results of experimental studies of the feasibility of processing iron- containing tailings of Kamysh-Burun deposit (slimes from Verkhne-Churbash storage facility (VCh sample) and dumped waste of Kamysh-Burun (KB sample)) to obtaining valuable components for further uses. Applying Mossbauer spectroscopy has been shown that the iron minerals in the studied samples are technogenic varieties of iron hydroxides. The most suitable technology is the magnetic roasting process, since iron hydroxides are easily transformed into a magnetic, easily recoverable form. Have been shown the advantages of a two-stage magnetic separation, in a strong field and with polygradient separators. Concentrating this material through magnetic methods makes it possible to increase the iron content to 20-21 %. Magnetic concentration of the deeper layers materials results in iron- containing concentrates with a total iron content of up to 58% whit a phosphorus content of about 2%. Reducing the phosphorus content is possible by blending upper and lower layers of the material at a ratio of 1:1. Thus, it is possible to process the material accumulated in the slime storage facility using the ROMELT process combined with preliminary three-stage magnetic concentration and disposal of tailings with the permissible iron content of less than 5%. Wastes from smelting will be slags suitable for use in construction industry. The Kamysh-Burun material preparation for ROMELT process should be performed applying gravity-washing with separation of the -0.4 mm fraction and additional blending for dephosphorizing the concentrate. The smelting will produce pig iron and slag."

"IT enabled platforms are the key to provide an integrated view of the business activity or an enterprise as a whole. Attempts to integrate all functions in an enterprise such as mine-to-market initiatives, wherever and to whatever extent implemented, have provided significant benefits to the industry. The transformative potential of IT enabled integration platforms is illustrated in this communication from our own work in this field. TCS PREMAP (Platform for the Realization of Materials and Products) is a knowledge-driven engineering design and development platform which leverages modeling and simulation and artificial intelligence into the engineering design process. We illustrate the customization of this generic platform for the design and optimization of mineral processing plants in an integrated manner. TCS PEACOCK (Process and Equipment Analytics for Optimization and Control) has been developed to enable automation of data analytics in the operating plants. We illustrate its utility and power in improving the plant performance with the help of case studies from our work on pelletization of iron ores and optimization of flotation plants. INTRODUCTION We are living in an exciting digital era. With the advent of cloud computing and social media on the one hand and rapid advances being made in several research areas of interest to us in the minerals and metals industry such as artificial intelligence (AI) & machine learning, robotics, unmanned vehicles including drones, big data analytics, 3D printing, sensor technologies, renewable energies and internet of things (IoT), many disruptive transformations in our industry are on the horizon. Recent advances in information technology (IT) and knowledge engineering, in combination with appropriate domain expertise, that is, our enhanced understanding of the underlying science of mining and mineral processing operations and the availability of a variety of powerful modeling-simulation tools make it possible to address the challenging problems facing the mining and mineral processing industry, in an integrated manner."

It is investigated systemically in this paper that the granularity of the precursor, ZnC2O4?2H2O, is influenced by synthetic conditions. Instantaneously adding of precipitation agent is able to control the mean size of precursor ZnC2O4?2H2O under 300nm, which has great function to obtain well-dispersed ZnO nanoparticles in the next step, pyrolysis. The pyrolysis kinetics model of ZnC2O4?2H2O powder is obtained. Two steps take place during the pyrolysis. The first is dehydration, which the pyrolysis kinetic model is 2(1-a)2/3(chemical reaction), A=8.3×108s-1, E=(75.82±3.00) KJ/mol. The second is formation of ZnO, which the pyrolysis kinetic model is (1-a) (random nucleation and latter growth), A=8.45×1028s-1, E=(360.54±12.00)KJ/mol. ZnO nanoparticles obtained by pyrolysis take on self-growth behavior. It is resulted that for precursor ZnC2O4?2H2O pyrolysis time takes obvious influence on the partilces size under 420?, 500? and 600?. Finally, a new flow sheet for synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles is investigated, in which blendes is used as raw material and hydrometallurgy is introduced into it. The whole flow sheet has no industrial wastes, that is all byproducts can be used in the flow sheet recycled, resulted in the de-crease of productive cost and industrial wastes.

There are various types of natural zeolite deposits in Turkey. Naturally occurring zeolites are excluded from many important commercial applications where uniformity and purity are essential. In this paper, the beneficiation of natural zeolite, taken from western part of Turkey, was investigated. According to X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and mineralogical studies carried out on the representative ore sample, the natural zeolite was found to be in the forms of clinoptilolite and heulandite. Clinoptilolite forms as a devitrification product of volcanic glass in tuffs. Quartz, clay minerals, orthoclase, plagioclase, biotite, seruzite-muskovite and epidote were observed as impurities. Several types of mineral processing methods were performed in order to remove impurities from the natural zeolite sample to produce high purity zeolite. Gravity separation methods such as shaking table and superpanner were carried out for separating heavy minerals, while high intensity dry magnetic separation was used for discarding magnetic minerals.

Thiosulfate as an alternative lixiviant for gold has received much attention in recent years due to the growing environmental concerns over the use of cyanide. Cu(II) is used to catalyze the oxidation of gold and ammonia is to stabilize Cu(II) in alkaline solution. However, the presence of Cu(II) enhances the oxidative degradation of thiosulfate. The high consumption of reagents has made thiosulfate leaching uneconomical to date, in comparison with cyanide leaching. Therefore, further investigations are required to leaching under low reagent concentrations over extended periods where reagent consumption is low and gold leaching rate is low as well. It is thus necessary to find additives to enhance gold dissolution in the thiosulfate leaching system. Electrochemical studies using rotating gold disc showed that the oxidation of gold in ammoniacal thiosulfate solution increased significantly in the presence of a small amount of thiourea and the beneficial effect increased with an increase in the thiourea concentration up to 7.2 mM. Thiourea improved gold extraction in the thiosulfate leaching of gold from a sulfide ore under low reagent concentrations. Excessive addition of thiourea inhibited the leaching of the gold ore. The decomposition of thiosulfate was reduced with the presence of thiourea. X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) results indicated that thiou-rea likely decomposed to sulfide and formed gold sulfide species at the gold surface.

By the micronization-milling of the material, the size and the structure of its particles are changed and it comes to the increasing of the potential energy of the system as well as to the chem-ical activity of the material what is the result of an increased free surface and of the concentration of the grate defects, that is of the internal energy of the system. All these changes that are reached, show that new characteristics of treated materials are got by micronization process. Controlling the process of the micronization and by purpose directing of the new characteristics of the activated materials, we can have the positive effects and use them in more technologies. Talc is important nonmetallic mineral raw material that is widely used as either the basic raw material, or as filler. This has stimulated its technological investigation, as well as the investigation of its physical-chemical characteristics. In this paper are shown experimentally reached results of the physical-chemical characteristics of the talc during the process of the micronization in high energetic mill. In this paper, the optimum conditions of miconization of talc in high-energy-speed rotary mill and its influence micronization on a degree of Fe2O3recovery by hydrometallurgical methodes, are presented. The X-ray analysis of the obtained products showed that high quality talc with low content of can be obtained by these physical-chemical processes In this paper, the principles and application or fine and ultra-fine grinding high-energy attriton mill with small balls, enabling fast, efficient grinding, low energy consumption, short grinding time and easy handling will be described.

Mining operations offer many opportunities for the use of IT and communication technologies to improve automation and thereby deliver higher levels of productivity, cost, quality and safety. In this paper, we discuss a particular application, namely, building a fully automated train control and operation system within a mining area. We first outline the basic architecture and functionality of such a system and then present a real-life case study where the railway system within a remote iron ore mine in Canada was converted to a fully automated train operation system. This hard real-time safety-critical system required the use of advanced technologies such as embedded systems (e.g., on-board train controller), radio communications, formal methods, optimal scheduling, and extensive simulations. We focus on the design aspects for maintaining the system in safe states.

According to the unique properties and many applications of nano silver powder, it was prepared from acid leaching tail solution. The low value residual gold and silver ions were occurred with fellow heavy metals as pollutants (Fe2+, Cu 2+and Zn2+) in acid leaching tail solution in Mouteh gold mine in Iran. Preparation of nano silver particles was achieved in two steps: first, by addition of ammonia as separation step and second by using different reagents as precipitation and extraction steps. Different controlled parameters were including pH, residence time and temperature, mixing time, and reducing reagents to metals molar ratio. Acid leaching process was carried out with sulphuric and nitric acid via suitable reductants. In order to remove copper, zinc, and silver ions from solution, all of the conditions were controlled. The optimum conditions for preparation of nano silver powder with less than 90 nm were pH 10.5, hydrazine/methanol to silver molar ratio of 3 to 4, and reduction time of 5 min in 45 °C. The results were evaluated via SEM, A.A and UV- Vis spectroscopy analytical methods.

Drilling and Blasting are two important unit operations in the production cycle of a mine and a strong link exists between these two and other unit operations/subsystems like loading, transportation, and crushing. Under the present concept of ? Mine to Mill?, it is important to optimize the drilling and blasting operations by applying scientific approach to drilling and blasting using sophisticated instruments and new technologies, which depends heavily on Information technology (IT) to meet this imperative. Development of innovative models and software has lead to blast optimization process. Till date, the blast results are evaluated in terms of available empirical approaches like powder factor, which are too simple to exclude some key parameters or lack in providing reliability because of non-availability of user friendly IT enabled techniques. Although with the help of developed approaches, formulation of user-friendly software to assist the site engineers in effective post blast assessment has started but there is a dearth of holistic approach to design an optimum blast considering the techno-economic feasibility of the subsystems and the geo-mining conditions to achieve blast optimization. The science of IT enablement in drilling and blasting is capable to build innovative models for achieving blast performances which will be doped with productivity, economy and safety with due regard to environment. The present paper discusses the use of existing IT enablement in various mines of India citing the Indian scenario and the future requirements for achieving the techno-economics in overall mining operations.

The selection of leach reagent mainly according to the ratio of useful mineral to gangue in mineral raw material and the structure of mineral raw material. Besides that the price of reagent, the capability of reagent decomposing mineral and its causticity on equipment is also supposed to be in regard. On common conditions, the scandium content in mineral raw material is low, even Sc concentrate of specimen-Yunnan rare earth ore which contain Sc used in this experiment only is 148 g/t. Moreover, in enlarging scale experiments the content of scandium in leach liquid is only 3.6g/t, meanwhile various and complicated impurity existing in it. At present, both domestic and abroad has succeed in enriching scandium from vitriol solution, while enriching scandium from hydrochloric acid only has been studied in some minority units, which is not reported to be practical in industry. Therefore, this item offer a new research issue on Sc?s extract, which is as well as the task of this research. Spectrum analysis, chemic component analysis and scandium content have been made in main mineral measurement on rare earth with Sc in the paper. Based on characters of sample, select hydrochloric acid, vitriol and nitric acid as leach reagent and make different blueprints to accomplish the experimental research about selecting leach reagent. In the aspect of rare earth leach scandium leach density is researched, leach liquid to solid rate, leach temperature, leach time, leach granule rate and leach solution. This experiment claims that in the optimal experimental ambience, leach rate of vitriol is 58.18%, the leach rate of nitric acid is 50.73% and the leach rate of hydrochloric acid is 59.34%. Among them, hydrochloric acid has the best effect, therefore this experiment choose it as the leach reagent.

"The flotation process of native Rare Earth minerals such as bastnasite, monazite, mixed minerals of bastnasite and monazite, using the new effective collector Dh was studied in this paper, respectively, and the flotation properties are described. The good qualities of the new collector Dh were revealed through comparing with other collector of Rare Earth minerals. The test results of different ore samples show that at moderate pulp pH (8.5-9.5), Rare earth minerals can be effectively separated from barium, calcium and silicon bearing intergrowth minerals (barite, calcite and silicate minerals) and high quality Rare Earth concentrates can be obtained successfully by the new collector Dh, acid silica gel, turpentine and reagents fitting together rationally. In order to determine optimum technical conditions, the effect of pulp pH, pulp temperature, pulp density and the effect of dosage of reagents (Dh and acid silica gel) on the flotation were investigated in the test.Simultaneously, the paper explores the mechanism of the flotation of Rare Earth minerals from intergrowth minerals. The infrared spectra for Dh and Rare Earth cation by analysis in theory shows that Dh formed chelate complex with Rare Earth cation and were adsorbed on the surfaces of Rare Earth minerals. The mechanism of the intergrowth minerals depressed by acid silica gel can be explained as gummy colloid hydrolyzed from acid silica gel which are selectively absorbed on the gangue minerals, making them hydrophilic and depressed, with pulp pH value of alkalescent."

At Tata Steel, Coal is washed in gravity and froth flotation circuit at 13-15 mm size and below. Being coal is high in ash (~35%) and difficult washability characteristics (having high (~40 %) NGM at desired ash levels) needs more and timely quality data of ROM for effective optimization and process control. Conventional approach of supplying quality data takes 4-5 hours time. This means during this period, it is assumed that coal is having similar characteristics as of previous set and it is not possible to fine tune during this time which resulted in yield loss. Hence producing clean coal on agreed ash value consistently is a challenging task because of high NGM and variation in input quality. To overcome the problem of collection of representative sample and timely result a new technology was adopted Prompt Gamma Neutron Activation Analysis (PGNAA) technology which is basically an online analyser using Gamma rays as the source to measure the ash content in coal running on a conveyor which gives real time ash analysis. Alumina demand is steadily climbing around the world and is likely to continue to do so for many years. In such a commodity industry, the question arises as to what effort should be expended on innovation, given that for an individual company, the drivers of change are cost and quality as the market demand is essentially assured. This is of course a long-term view. The current conditions are less attractive. In this presentation, we review the broad issues that are considered targets for collaborative development by the industry as recently updated in the alumina industry roadmap published by the International Aluminium Institute in 2010. While they cover areas such as ?mine rehabilitation, residue management and use, alumina production from high sulfur bauxite, bauxite beneficiation, energy efficiency and alternative technologies for alkali and alumina recovery from bauxite residues,? it must be remembered that each refinery is different in terms of the feed material and the circumstances of waste disposal. Of particular interest is the more competitive area of breakthrough technologies. In the presentation, we will consider a range of opportunities that could transform the industry, from relatively near term possibilities such as bauxite activation through possibilities to eliminate crystallization as currently practiced to complete alternatives, such as the use of hyperaccumulating plants. Against this optimism, some of the realities that hold back breakthrough innovation will be presented for discussion.
