Durante el desarrollo cotidiano de una operación minera, se obtienen diversos tipos de información como: muestreo, perforación diamantina, etc. las cuales, se originan en base a observaciones de campo. En ese sentido, es vital desarrollar procedimientos adecuados que permitan administrar la información compilada. Por ello, el presente trabajo señala la aplicación de la administración de datos geológicos en la empresa minera Iscaycruz. La información de datos geológicos se puede administrar en formatos tipo gráfico o en bases de datos, por lo cual se requiere que la estructura de almacenamiento de dichos formatos contenga parámetros previamente analizados. Asimismo, es necesario que el equipo de trabajo organize la base de datos, a través de los objetivos y metas trazadas, así como de la verificación y análisis de los resultados, para mantener actualizada la información.

El presente trabajo señala la función de la informatización en el planeamiento y control de minado de taladros largos en la unidad minera Iscaycruz. El proceso facilita el diseño y planeamiento de perforación de los taladros largos y permite la identificación de los problemas en el minado de los tajeos y las medidas correctivas en forma rápida y oportuna. Así también posibilita el tratamiento electrónico de la información, economiza recursos y facilita la integración de las bases de datos de las diferentes áreas que intervienen en la producción.

A utilização da tecnologia na gestão dos processos de produção em forjaria, torna-se cada vez mais imprescindível para se manter competitivo no setor automotivo. Com isso, a necessidade de ferramentas tecnológicas se faz presente para obter controles ágeis e recursos otimizados. A informatização é uma destas ferramentas que podem ser usadas na gestão da produção no setor automotivo. Esta permite que os gestores consigam monitorar em tempo real a produção e caso necessário intervir no processo de forma ágil para eliminar ou diminuir as não conformidades durante a produção. Este trabalho discute a informatização da gestão da produção em uma forjaria no setor automotivo e a importância das ferramentas tecnológicas aplicadas como suporte a gestão. Apresenta-se um caso real aplicado no setor, onde a informatização apresentou ganhos de acesso à informação e agilidade na tomada de decisão. Neste, realiza-se uma comparação do processo de gestão manual com a proposta de informatização. Como resultado, verificou que as ferramentas tecnológicas aplicadas possibilitaram melhorar fortemente a gestão durante o processo produtivo e mostrou-se superior nos quesitos de qualidade e tempo para difundir a informação, bem como reduzir custos operacionais.

El presente texto señala las posibildades técnicas y económicas en la instalación de una refinería de zinc y una fundición de plomo en el Perú. Para ello, se revisan los problemas técnicos que comprende (la materia prima y la elaboración). Respecto a los yacimientos y considerando como norma las extracciones actuales, se asegura la existencia de materias primas para un espacio prolongado de tiempo dentro de un período mínimo de 20 años. Asimismo, la calidad de las menas no sufrirá ninguna variación fundamental en este espacio de tiempo y las plantas de preparación existentes estarán en condiciones de suministrar a la nueva fundición suficientes concentrados, tanto en cantidad como en calidad.

An infra-red absorption study has been made of crocidolite, country rock. and associated host rocks from Wittenoom Gorge. The spectrum of the country rock is appreciably different from those of crocidolite and the magnetite-rich host rocks which are closely similar. A process to separate crocidolite-bearing ore from country rock based on infra-red emission is therefore possible in theory.

As the mining industry begins efforts to examine the feasibility of extraterrestrial resource utilization, the extraction and processing of icy regolith containing water and other volatile materials will be the initial focus for future expansion of capabilities. Pure water is essential for human consumption, and a source of oxygen and hydrogen. The latter, along with the volatile materials, lend themselves to the creation of fuels that may be used for further space exploration at distances not currently feasible. For any extraterrestrial scoping project, the transport of materials to geoscientists remains virtually impossible. Therefore, analysis must be done in-situ, possibly millions of miles away from the nearest human. To address the need for geologic resource estimation in the absence of geoscientists, an infrared framework has been developed for the analysis of water ice content in simulants of permanently shaded lunar regolith. This framework relies on a convolutional neural network model for the rapid analysis of percent water ice content in samples, at which point standard geostatistical methods may be employed.

Infrared sensors will include scanning detectors and positioning sensors. The focus will be on 1, 2, and 4-color wavelength pyrometer systems which allow the accurate measurement of emissivity and, consequently, of the true temperature even in the presence of scale, slag, and fumes. Such sensors are being used in blast furnaces, BOF's, and galvanizing lines. Laser sensors will be presented using different principles of physics, mainly time-of-flight, pulsed infrared lasers for level measurement and dimensional measurement; triangulation lasers for width and thickness measurements; and laser Doppler velocimeters for velocity and length measurements, including mass flow, elongation, and tension control, cut-to-length applications. These sensors and systems are based on state-of-the-art technical developments to improve productivity and quality and reduce maintenance and downtime.

THE UTILIZATION by the Bureau of Mines of infrared and ultraviolet-visible spectrometry in connection with coal research has led to some basic improvements in methods, including a calibration method, a quantitative assessment of infrared spectral energy sources, and the development and perfection of infrared filters and cells. The adoption of a micropipet method to flush organic samples into absorption cells permits the investigation of vapors from organic liquids and the identification of volatile organic compounds. The spectral method has been used to investigate the infrared spectra of metal chelates, the charge-transfer complexing properties of aniline and nitrobenzene, an infrared method for determining the presence of methane in coal-mine air that has been adopted for use in enforcing the regulations of the National Coal Mine Safety Act, and atmospheric pollution including smog and odor-causing oxidation and decomposition of organic materials. Correlation of spectra and structure of organic compounds, particularly aromatics, was studied.

Thermal method of diagnostic as a nondestructive monitoring is based on data logging of infrared radiation from heated surface or from the associated thermal field. Monitoring of gearcases and motors hidden faults, such as, bearing degradation (deep-seated wears and tears, fretting wear, spalling and jamming solids of revolution) is closely related to high variations in temperature. The use of portable thermal imaging devices provides considerable advantages due to: easy remote access to the unit under test even when it is operating; minimum time required to obtain information and an opportunity for a real-time diagnosis of the tested subject's condition.

"Application of high-emissivity coating on inner walls in industrial furnaces increases the furnace thermal efficiency. The coating with high emissivity strengthens radiation heat transfer in the furnace, however, according to Wien's displacement law and Planck's radiation law, under heating temperature, the wavelengths of the radiation transfer are mostly between 1-5 µm, implying that increasing emissivity of the coating in near infrared band is more effective for higher thermal efficiency. In this paper, a new CuO-ZnO-based coating material sintered at 1600K was developed. The emissivity of the samples were measured and the result shows that, in near-infrared band, the emissivity of the sample reaches 0.98 at 773K with 13at.% of CuO doped in ZnO. In addition, the effects of CuO doping and use temperature on emissivity were also discussed. Furthermore, crystallization behaviors of ZnO-CuO sintering were investigated by DTA,XRD and SEM-EDS etc., which offered information for possible optimal design of the material.1. IntroductionIndustrial furnaces are widely used in various industrial heating. For example, the metal smelting furnace, ore sintering furnace in metallurgical industry; the distillation furnace, cracking furnace in petroleum industry etc,. The research on efficient energy saving technology has important significance. High emissivity coatings are widely used in many high temperature applications to effectively transfer the heat by radiation [ 1]. The theoretical calculation and experimental studies have shown that, coated high emissivity coating in the heating surface is an effective method to enlarge the infrared radiation power [2].At present, the infrared high emissivity coating has been widely used in China, and have been achieved remarkable energy saving effect. According to Wien' s displacement law and Planck' slaw, most energy of the black body at high temperature is radiated in the wavelength range of l-5µm; however it happens that many materials have the low emissivity within this range. Thus, it is important to improve the near-infrared band emissivity of materials [3]."

"Ore sorting has been quite successful in providing a separation means in the rock size range of 1 to 6 inches; a range where mineral dressers do not have many options. The industrial minerals and recycling worlds have embraced this technology. However, ore sorting has not found wide application in the base or precious metals mining industry. One reason for this is thought to be the reliance of most sensors on rock surface characteristics, not very useful in case of sulphides, non-existing in case of gold. Microwave heating, however, is specific for sulphides and graphite (or carbonaceous matter) embedded in the rocks; washing or even drying does not appear necessary. Separation can be done afterwards by already existing ore sorting technology using infrared sensors. Test results on six Nevada gold ore samples are presented in detail. Some simple test procedures are also presented for those wishing to explore the microwave potential of sulphide sorting in their own operations.INTRODUCTIONMineral processing in the base metals industry most often involves upgrading of the ore, concentrating the valuable mineral fraction by classic methods, such as flotation. Since the liberation of minerals in the ore occurs mostly at or below the 100 micron level, the industry has been living with fault lines, so to speak, between blast hole spacing (10,000 mm), run-of-mine ore size (100 mm) and beneficiation size (0.1 – 0.01 mm). The acceptance of ore sorting will inevitably lead to the revisiting of the following questions: “Exactly how much below ore grade rock ends up in the mill because the geologists or the miners cannot define the resource boundaries more precisely? How can the economics of dilution be improved? How many ore grade rocks are lost with the overburden?”"

"The objective of this research is to investigate the feasibility of using infrared sensors to monitor the welding process. Data were gathered using an infrared camera which was trained on the molten metal pool during the welding operation. Several types of process perturbations which result in weld defects were then intentionally induced and the resulting thermal images monitored. Gas tungsten arc using AC and DC currents and gas metal arc welding processes were investigated using steel, aluminum and stainless steel plate materials. The thermal images obtained in the three materials and different welding processes revealed nearly identical patterns for the same induced process perturbation. Based upon these results, infrared thermography is a method which may be very applicable to automation of the welding process.IntroductionAutomatic welding is commonplace in industry today. However, most, if not all, involves preprogramming for performance of a repetitive task. These systems are incapable of correcting for perturbations which arise during the welding process. Control of the welding process requires the identification and monitoring of perturbations in a wide variety of parameters. The varied nature of these parameters and the large number of variables involved have thwarted previous attempts at closed loop control of the welding process. The sensor(s) employed by a control system need to meet rather strenuous requirements. First and foremost of these is that such a sensor must be able to identify and discriminate between perturbations that might affect the quality of the weld, including such geometrical perturbations as a change of direction in the seam between the parts being welded, gaps in the seam or a misalignment of the parts being welded. The sensor should also be able to locate and identify contaminants and impurities in the weld puddle and ahead of it while monitoring the extent of the heat-affected zone and the cooling rate of the metal. The sensor(s) should, additionally, be able to perform these tasks in a time frame that is consistent with automatic control of the welding process. This paper presents results that could aid in the assembly of such a controlled welding system."

Infrared spectroscopy has the ability to accurately measure mineralogy of drill cores, allowing for better spatial characterisation of iron ore deposits and potentially improving the prediction of key mining and processing parameters at the deposit scale. BHP Billiton Iron Ore is using infrared spectroscopic drill core logging to provide fast and accurate mineralogy for diamond cores and reverse circulation (RC) samples.Mineralogy can be predicted from infrared spectroscopic drill core data with errors on estimates ranging from six to 12 weight per cent. The error on the clay estimates is significantly lower than for hematite and goethite content estimates. This manuscript presents the results from a study on a bedded iron ore deposit, hosted in the Brockman iron formation, for which infrared spectroscopic data were collected on all of the diamond and RC drilling. Results show that these mineralogy estimates improve drill core logs, the geology model and the metallurgical block model.CITATION:Haest, M, Vitins, I and Hacket, A, 2013. Infrared spectroscopy has been one of the most useful experimental techniques for the analysis of surface reactions in flotation systems, including surface alteration and surfactant adsorption reactions. With the advent of Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometers, many low-energy throughput IR experimental techniques previously unused by flotation researchers have come into greater use. In particular, internal reflection spectroscopy (IRS) is the most often used technique for in-situ studies. To date, three IRS methods have been used for in-situ measurements. These techniques are evaluated for use in characterization of surface reactions in flotation systems. The method using mineral crystals as reactive internal reflection elements (IRE) is of particular interest because it allows surfactant adsorption densities to be calculated directly from in-situ spectral data in real time. Application of in-situ FTIR/IRS with reactive internal reflection elements will be demonstrated for collector adsorption reactions in each of the major flotation systems. The alumina (A1203)/sodium dodecylsulfate system is used as an example for insoluble oxide/silicate flotation, while the fluorite (CaF2)/oleate system serves as a paradigm for semisoluble salt flotation. For sulfide flotation, sphalerite (ZnS) is used as the reactive IRE with potassium amylxanthate and potassium ethylxanthate as collectors. In the case of soluble salt flotation, sylvite (KC1) is used as the IRE with n-octylamine as collector. Finally, the use of reactive IREs in the near-IR spectral region and in spectroelectrochemical research is discussed.

The focus in the iron ore industry has shifted from increasing production volumes with less regard for cost, to efficient production of quality tonnes. BHP Billiton iron ore geoscience and exploration has embedded infrared spectroscopic sensing of drill hole samples to help meet this challenge.Infrared spectroscopy is delivering mineral predictions that are used for (automated) geology logging and modelling. The spectra are processed together with other available data sets to predict geometallurgical and geotechnical variables that include lump per cent and uniaxial compressive strength.Trials are ongoing to test the benefit of infrared spectroscopy during mining, including the analysis of grade control samples and remote sensing of mine faces. Results show great benefits in the fields of short-term geology modelling, better understanding of material (handling) properties, identification of geotechnical risk areas and high resolution ore-waste delineation.These trials are bringing BHP Billiton iron ore closer to its ultimate goal of having infrared spectroscopic data collected across the mining value chain. Once such data are available everywhere, regression models can be trained at one point (eg iron grade model trained on exploration samples) and be applied elsewhere (eg iron grade predicted on mine faces). Such predictive analytics will enable not only high precision mining, but also provide maximum time to tailor plant design to the ore in the ground, based on learnings from ores processed in other plants. Chemisorbed oleate films on the surfaces of fluorite, barite, and calcite were studied by means of infrared spectrophotometry. Evidence is presented which indicates the mineral anions, i.e., fluoride, sulfate, and carbonate, are displaced from the mineral surfaces as a result of the adsorption from aqueous solutions. Also, chemisorption reactions between oleic acid and fluorite or calcite occurred spontaneously in the absence of water. Carbon dioxide was identified as a reaction product when dry calcite was contacted with oleic acid. There was no evidence of reaction between oleic acid and barite in the absence of water.

FTIR measurements using a special ATR cell were carried out to investigate the adsorption of two thiol collectors, potassium ethyl xanthate (KEX) and sodium diethyl dithlophoshate (NaDTP), on an unoxidized lead sulfide surface. Both qualitative and quantitative determinations of the collectors were made at the coverages from two monolayers down to 2% of the monolayer. The experiments revealed that the thiol collector species coordinate to the lead atoms at the surface of lead sulfide but the surface products distinctly differ from the precipitated bulk lead compounds. There exists a linear relationship between the coverage and the signal intensity of the IR spectra within the coverage range studied.

Extensive infrastructure construction works were required for the development of the underground and open-cut coal mine at Ulan to a production capacity of 5 million tonnes of steaming coal per annum. The Ulan Mine development project was constructed in a two year period at a cost of $240 million. The infrastructure component included the construction of the mine site building works, civil works and 150km of railway, valued at $105 million. These works were successfully completed under a construction management agreement within two years. The separate elements of the project are described in detail in the paper.
