"Inclusions in 316L stainless steel ingots poured using two different upgate designs – a traditional upgate and a swirl upgate - were investigated using SEM and ASPEX automated inclusion analysis. The main inclusions were high SiO2 inclusions, MnS inclusions and SiO2-Al2O3-CaO inclusions. More inclusions were detected at the top of the ingot than other places in vertical direction, and more inclusions were at the edge of the ingot than other place in the radial direction. With swirling upgate there were more K- and Na- bearing inclusions than that with the traditional upgate indicating possible more serious flux entrainment with the swirl upgate.IntroductionIngot casting still is very important for production of special steel grades including high carbon chromium bearing steel, thick plate, seamless tube, forgings, bars, and wire rods [1] . During the bottom teeming process, molten steel enters the trumpet and passes through the spider into the runners. Molten steel then enters the ingot mold through an upgate near the end of the runner. In the early stages of filling a mold, a mold flux bag hung in the mold were burnt and the mold flux will cover the top of the rising steel to protect the steel from being reoxidized, acting as well as act as a thermal insulator. So far, some efforts on studying inclusions characteristics in the ingot have been reported. A review paper on the control of inclusions during steel ingot casting was published by Zhang et al. [2] Zhang also studied Inclusions in bottom-teemed ingots of plain carbon steel and found that the >20µm inclusions originated from either the entrainment of mold flux of the reoxidation during teeming process. [3] The results of Nagendra and Du showed that there were more inclusions in the centre part of the ingot [4]. Eriksson et al reported that the composition of inclusions was more complex in the mold samples in comparison to the ladle samples, and more inclusions in the mold were found than in ladle because of the reaction between the mold flux and the molten steel [5]. It was reported that SiO2-CaO-Al2O3 inclusions originating from mold powder with reoxidation product Al2O3 as a part, and there were more inclusions close to the side wall than the center of the ingot in the radial direction. [6]. A more recent investigation showed that four main types of inclusions in runner samples were classified: oxides, sulfides, complex and carbon-nitrides. [7] The flow pattern in the mold during filling has been found to be an important factor regarding inclusions in the ingot. In the early stages offilling a mold, steel enters the mold through the entry nozzle at a high velocity. The effect of the resulting turbulence on the meniscus can lead to the entrainment of mold flux. Efforts have been paid over the years to find methods to reduce the velocity of the molten steel entering the mold, such as using opening angle of the inlet nozzle [8], using swirl blade at the runner [9], using a divergent nozzle combined with a swirling flow generated in the nozzle [10-11]."

"The functional role of inclusions at low cutting speeds is to promote ductile fracture in chip formation process, whereas the role of inclusions at high cutting speeds is to prevent tool crater wear by suppressing the tribological phenomenon of seizure at the tool-chip interface. Glassy oxide inclusions are engineered into the workpiece to form a viscous layer in-situ at the tool-chip interface at high cutting speeds. The viscous layer lubricates the tool-chip interface to prevent the seizure. In comparison with the large volume fraction of inclusions needed for promoting ductile fracture at low cutting speeds, the amount of inclusions required for lubricating the toolchip interface at high cutting speeds is very small and is in the range that is typical of clean steels. The chip fracture process at high cutting speeds is aided by strain rate hardening of the matrix, which facilitates chip disposal of relatively clean steel.Inclusion engineering for high speed machining involves the control of the rheology and composition of inclusions to meet target viscosity at the tool-chip interface. The application of thermodynamic models in controlled production of inclusions in steels designed for high speed machining is discussed."

The formation and evolution of inclusions in Ti-Stabilized, 17Cr Austenitic Stainless Steel produced by the ingot casting process were investigated through systematic sampling of liquid steel and rolled products. Analysis methods included total oxygen and nitrogen contents, optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The results indicate that the composition of inclusions was strongly dependent on the types of added alloying agents. During the AOD refining process, after the addition of ferrosilicon alloy and electrolytic manganese, followed by aluminum, the composition of inclusions changed from manganese silicate-rich inclusions to Al2O3-rich inclusions. After tapping and titanium wire feeding, pure TiN particles and complex inclusions with Al2O3-MgO-TiOx cores coated with TiN were found to be the dominant inclusions when [%Ti] was 0.307 in the molten steel. These findings were confirmed by thermodynamic calculations which indicated that TiN inclusions could be formed in the liquid phase due to the high contents of [Ti] and [N] in the molten steel. From the start of casting to the rolled bar, there was no obvious change in the composition of inclusions compared to the titanium addition stage. Stringer-shaped TiN inclusions elongated along the rolling direction with lengths varying from 17 to 84µm were observed in the rolled bar, which could detrimentally impact the mechanical properties of the stainless steels.

Over the past twenty years, steelmakers have introduced improved practices for reducing the inclusion content of steels. The success of these practice changes can be monitored in a variety of ways. Chemical analysis of the bulk sulphur and oxygen contents provides a relatively simple means to assess the impact of these changes. However, microscopical test methods are still needed to assess the nature of the inclusions present. Traditional chartbased measurement methods have wide acceptability, and their data are well understood by both purchaser and producer for heat acceptance purposes. However, these methods do have inherent weaknesses which limit their usefulness for quality control, SPC, and database applications. Image analysis-based chart measurements are an improvement over manually generated chart ratings, but the data still do not lend themselves to databases and statistical comparisons. ASTM Committee E-4 on Metallography has developed a stereologicallybased image analysis standard test method, E 1245, which provides the necessary data in a form which is easily databased and analyzed statistically. This paper describes E 1245 and shows how data from different heats and melting practices can be compared statistically to ascertain valid test differences.

"For rock socketed drilled shafts, it is a common practice not to include the frictional resistance of overburden soils into the nominal capacity estimation. The primary reason often being cited is “overburden soils resistance is negligible compared to that of rock socket resistance.” However, in certain geological conditions, where the rock layer is located at greater depths, friction resistance from overburden layers can be significant. In addition, at such great depths, shaft drilling becomes very complicated and expensive. In these situations, considering the resistance of the overburden layers can be an economic alternative.This paper presents a case study of an Osterberg cell (O-cell) load test conducted on a 161.8 feet long and 78-inch diameter instrumented test shaft. Based on initial designs, a 72-inch diameter rock socket of lengths 23 and 26 feet was required to provide a LRFD factored friction resistance of 3,200 kips. The load test results revealed that the material in the 72-inch diameter socket does not represent a true rock. However, the test results also proved that the factored friction resistance of overburden layers is greater than the required design resistance. Based on the load test results, it was decided to allow the overburden soils frictional resistance to be considered in the shaft design, resulting in significant economic savings.INTRODUCTIONRock socketed drill shaft design guidelines of various State Department of Transportation (DOTs) agencies allow friction and/or end bearing resistance of only the rock socket portion into the design capacity estimation. It is typical to neglect the frictional resistance of overburden soils. However, in certain geological conditions where the rock layer is at greater depths, friction resistance of the overburden soils can be significant. In this case the friction resistance of overburden soils was verified via the specified instrumented O-cell test program and then used as part of the design capacity.PROJECT DESCRIPTIONAs part of I-29 improvement project, Iowa Department of Transportation (Iowa DOT) planned to replace the dual four lane bridges that cross the Floyd River in Sioux City, Iowa with dual six lane bridges (Fig. 1). Expected benefits from this improvement include improved safety, traffic operations and roadway infrastructure conditions.BRIDGE SUBSTRUCTUREThe project consists of two individual bridges; a new south bound bridge and a new north bound bridge. The south bound bridge is 646-ft long and the north bound bridge is 644-ft long. Both are six-span, pretensioned and pre-stressed concrete beam bridges of varying width. Bridge foundations were designed such that the abutments of both bridges will be supported on driven steel piles and the bridge piers will be on drilled shaft foundations."

Safescape Laddertube provides an improved system for emergency egress in ventilation shafts. The addition of Laddertube in a rise has very little impact on ventilation flow, studies have indicated that the difference in flow velocities are difficult to measure due to the minimal impact. Due to the size and open-ended nature of Laddertube, the air velocity inside and out of the Laddertube is mostly linear. Laddertube can be used either permanently or during an emergency as a secondary ventilation duct. One project involved a 385 m ladder installed in a surface return air raise that could be made to bypass the primary circuit and supply fresh air to a sea container fresh air base at the bottom of the raise. Laddertube has been designed to be installed to any feasible length and can be fitted with a climb assist system ensuring enhanced speed and reduced fatigue during ascent. The climb assist used in association with Laddertube is a Tractelift system which applies a weight relief of up to 36 kg off the climber’s body weight when using the ladder. This system has successfully been tested for ladders up to 600 m in length and is currently in use for a ladder of 185 m length. The use of refuge chambers in underground coalmines has long been a contentious issue due to the concern that while it may provide temporary shelter, the risk of being exposed to high heat or the inability for rescuers to access them due to fire or explosive atmosphere means that they may be effectively trapped. The additional application for coal environments includes Laddertube installed alongside a refuge chamber concealed behind a blast proof door ensuring a secondary means of emergency egress. In certain operations designs may allow for this chamber to be provided withpositive pressure fresh air.

The capacity of steelmaking slags (CaO-SiO2-Al2O3-MgO) on inclusion removal from liquid steel was investigated through experimental conditions. Laboratory experiments with slag and steel samples (with inclusion population known) were performed using a vertical electric resistance furnace at 1600 ºC. After the melting experiments, slag and steel samples were separated and analyzed regarding their chemical composition and inclusion population evolution. The capacity of slags on inclusion removal was evaluated based on the thermodynamics (solid and liquid phases proportion, phase composition and effective viscosity of slags) calculated using the FactSageTM 7.2. Results indicated that changes in the composition of slags (regarding CaO/SiO2 e Al2O3) presented effects on the steel cleanliness. The total inclusion density decreased in all steel samples and the removal of inclusions by slags shows a tendency to improve as their viscosity decreases (< 0.23 Pa.s).

INCLUSIONS of nonmetallic matter have long been recognized as objectionable in steel. A complete theory of the effect of inclusions, which is consistent with that held today, was outlined in Howe&apos;s early work on the metallurgy of iron and steel. This, by analogy with wrought iron, assumes that the observed difference in properties between specimens with and across the direction of rolling is due to slag enclosures. The fact that wrought iron shatters in ballistic test is taken as an indica-tion of the effect of inclusions on the resistance to shock. Since that time, the development of the metallurgical microscope has shown the discrete nonmetallic inclusions in the iron matrix. Better resolution has, brought out the great number of inclusions, and the availability of good microscopes in steel mills and laboratories has constantly drawn more attention to these inclusions. This recent emphasis on inclusions has resulted in studies as to their nature, mode of formation and methods of elimination, such as the work of Wohrman, Dickenson, Herty, and Schenk. In addition to the published works; many investigations which have not been published&apos; have been carried out by private laboratories and have resulted in the application of specifications intended to limit inclusions in many qualities of steel. Nevertheless, a clear understanding of the quantitative effect of inclusions on the physical properties of steel has been lacking. It is the specific purpose of this study to determine the quantitative effect of inclusions on the physical properties of steel that determine its behavior under dynamic stress. The study has shown that a quantitative relation between counted inclusions and impact strength does exist in normalized steels, but &apos;that factors other than readily visible inclusions are equally important. Furthermore, the present commercial rating of inclusions is unreliable with respect to counted inclusions or dynamic tests, and this study indicates that the tensile-impact test is more reliable as a measure of quality.

A PREVIOUS study1 of the relations of impact strength to inclusions showed that the dynamic strength of steel is lowered by the presence of visible counted inclusions, but that other factors comprised in the term "body" have a marked influence. The previous work was carried out on selected steels from a single source, so that the body factor was purposely minimized, but even under these conditions it was found that inclusion counting or the use of the commercial inclusion rating is not satisfactory. The tensile-impact test, however, was indicated as a satisfactory measure of dynamic strength. It was further suggested that the tensile-impact test should be so standardized as to be suitable for use in specifications, and that the hardness factor should be worked out over a sufficient range to admit ready commercial use of the tensile-impact test. In accordance with these suggestions, and in view of the fact that the steels reported in the previous paper were selected and treated so as to have a minimum variation in body, hardness and structure, further work has been performed on a variety of steels which are not limited by these conditions. The word "body" is used here for want of a better term. It is simply a convenient expression which comprises the effect of the various unknown factors that modify the dynamic strength of the steel. Thus at our present state of knowledge, the writers have chosen to consider hardness, structure and counted inclusion content as factors not comprised in the term "body," and such factors as raw materials, process of melting, fabricating, etc. as comprised in the term "body." Numerous grades of steels made in several ways have been taken from different sources and have been heat-treated to varying hardness by normalizing and by quenching and drawing. Inclusions revealed by the ultrasonic inspection of forgings, slabs, and blooms cause costly diversion or rejection of the product. Most of those inclusions are so large that they should have floated out of the liquid steel soon after teeming and been removed when the top discard was taken from the ingot. To investigate the source of the relatively large inclusions found in the body portions of ingots, a large forging ingot was examined from top to bottom along the centerline, and special studies were made of open-hearth and BOP ingots. A study of the inclusion distribution in the as-cast 134-inch-diameter forging ingot revealed only a few inclusions larger than 15 microns in the body of the ingot. Larger inclusions may be formed by entrapment of rising inclusions in large falling dendrites rather than by the precipitation and agglomeration of oxides from the liquid steel-dendrite interface during solidification. The original top crust of the ingot investigated broke away from the hot top and sank to the bottom during the solidification process, as indicated by entrapped inclusions found in a band 12-1/2 inches above the stool. A change in the hot-top insulation practice on subsequent ingots to insure the integrity of the top crust has produced clean ingots. A ZrO2 tracer was added to the hot-topping compound and to the top surface of open-hearth and BOP ingots after teeming. The tracer was found in large inclusions in slabs and blooms from these ingots. Large inclusions in the body of ingots appear to be related to disturbances of the natural freezing and shrinkage processes in the hot- top region of the ingot.

"Small inclusions removal from molten steel in a continuous casting tundish by gas bubbles, which were generated in the turbulent flow region by introducing inert gas, was analyzed theoretically and the inclusion-bubble adhesion and flotation process was also observed by high-speed photo-graph in water model. Results showed that small inclusions in the range of 20-50µm removal from molten steel by bubbles flotation involves three stages: contact, adhesion and flotation. The inclusion-bubble adhesion processes include two ways: inclusions adhering to the upper part of the bubble and inclusions adhering to the lower part of the bubble. As the bubble floats up, the number of inclusions adhering to the bubble are increased. The proper size of bubbles, which could enhance small inclusions removal efficiency, should be controlled in the range of 1-2mm.IntroductionReducing inclusions content in molten steel is a very important way to improve quality of steel, and one of the main tasks in steel making process.A variety of methods have been used for inclusions removal in molten steel. At present, the main approaches to remove inclusions are gas stirring, slag cleaning, filtering, centrifugal separating, and by means of ultrasonic or electromagnetic field. Among these techniques, gas stirring is the most widely and effectively method for inclusions removal. Inclusions in molten steel will be aggregated and generated to form larger size inclusions, and subsequently floated to the surface of molten steel by buoyancy; meanwhile, some inclusions will be adhered to bubbles and floated together to metal-slag interface where inclusions are absorbed by the covering slag layer. Some research work showed that flow behaviors of small bubbles are different from that of big ones [1-2], and smaller bubbles are more efficiency for fine inclusions removal in molten steel.There are many methods to generate bubbles. During steelmaking process, highly turbulent flow in the ladle shroud can split introduced inert gas into small bubbles, which enhances the removal of fine inclusions from molten steel. Turbulent flow of molten steel injected into tundish from ladle shroud has a high speed and it is a strong turbulent area in continuous casting. The gas can be introduced into the shroud below the slide gate. The high turbulence flow would break up the gas into small gas bubbles. Fine inclusions will be easily adhered to small bubbles and subsequently floated to the surface of molten steel. Generation of small bubbles in ladle shroud have been studied in some literatures [3-4]. Some research have analyzed the fine inclusions removal with injecting gas from the ladle shroud by mathematical simulation, and the results show that the refining method can obviously improve the removal efficiency of fine inclusions in tundish [5-8]."

THE following presentation is more a summation of observations made and conclusions drawn over a period of three to four years than a report of experiments made with a definite objective. Tests were made, of course, to verify hypotheses, but the large mass of data was collected incidental to other work. Lack of space forbids the presentation of more than a few of those data. On the other hand, it is unfortunate that some of the most illustrative examples are not available. The work is admit¬tedly incomplete but is presented in the hope that it will stimulate further work along a similar line. The answers to many of the questions left unanswered by this paper will be found only after long and painstaking study, such as is scarcely possible in a commercial laboratory where problems of immediate importance consume most of the time. It is also hoped that this study will in some measure throw light on some of the dark spots of steelmaking, and help to clarify some of the annoyingly vague references to "good practice." Only cast steel was studied and the conclusions apply to cast steel, but it is the authors&apos; opinion that the quality of rolled or forged steel is largely dependent on the quality of the ingot, which is a casting. Although this discussion deals almost entirely with inclusions, it is important that the reader understand that only those natural inclusions which owe their origin to the solubility of certain materials in steel and to the chemical reactions of steelmaking are considered. Accidental inclusions, such as entrapped particles of slag, nozzle, runner, or mold are outside its province and are not considered. Such accidental inclusions are always dangerous and should be carefully avoided.

The extraction and processing of metals and other minerals have played an important role in economic, political and social development worldwide, from the early stages of prehistory to the present day (Gosner, 2020). Mining has been a fundamental part of human civilization, providing the raw materials necessary for technological, infrastructure and industrial advances. As society progresses, the importance of mining continues to grow, supporting the development of everything from the smallest electronic devices to the tallest skyscrapers (Escamilla, 2024). The economy of a nation is connected to its extractive industries (Moreira and McMahon, 2014), which have seen dramatic growth in recent years (Pietrobelli et al., 2018). In a context of increasing demand for natural resources, driven by the development of emerging technologies, the expansion of infrastructure and the foundation of engineering achievements for the coming decades (Minerals Education Coalition, 2024), mining should focus efforts on global development, requiring a comprehensive approach to sustainability that addresses the planet’s needs and protects the well-being, primarily, of the communities and environments where mining operations take place (Figari, 2024). In these areas, diversity and inclusion should be promoted, thus fostering equitable and sustainable development. The sustainable development goals (SDGs), also known as the global goals, could serve as a key framework for fostering a strong social management culture in mining. The SDGs were adopted by the United Nations (UN) in 2015 as a universal call to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030 (United Nations Development Programme, n.d.). Companies have compelling reasons to align their actions with the SDGs, as their long-term success depends on healthy communities. This is a major challenge that requires collaborative efforts (Singh and Rahman, 2021). As Fraser (2021) mentions, achieving more sustainable outcomes may involve mining companies and communities working together collaboratively. This article proposes an innovative approach: Inclusive mining for sustainable development, which aims not only to maximize economic profitability but also to promote social and environmental well-being by integrating the UN’s SDGs, primar)ily focused on diversity and inclusion. This can be achieved through the implementation of a key value-added initiative for mining companies: the creation and operation of a corporate volunteering program aimed at developing and executing inclusive practices to promote gender equality, the inclusion of local communities and indigenous peoples, and accessibility for people with disabilities. This proposal will educate employees and stakeholders about sustainability and promote concrete actions through corporate volunteering to strengthen the mining company’s commitment to community development, improve social relations and advance toward achieving the UN’s SDGs, establishing the company as a global change agent.

A soldagem de peças de aço por arco submerso é um dos processos mais tradicionalmente usados na fabricação de componentes estruturais. A microestrutura do metal de solda é importante na definição das suas propriedades mecânicas, sendo a ferrita acicular um microconstituinte capaz de conferir à solda altos níveis de resistência mecânica e tenacidade. A nucleação da ferrita acicular depende da presença de inclusões não metálicas no metal de solda. No presente trabalho fez-se a caracterização microestrutural do metal de solda preparados com diferentes aportes térmicos. Lâminas finas foram observadas por microscopia eletrônica de transmissão, que possibilitou determinar alguns parâmetros morfológicos e químicos das partículas e a sua relação com a nucleação das ripas de ferrita acicular. Verificou-se que partículas irregulares com maior tamanho, mais ricas em titânio quando formadas com maior energia de soldagem, apresentam maior probabilidade de servirem como sítio preferencial para nucleação da ferrita acicular, se comparadas às partículas mais lisas e menores.

Titânio é adicionado aos aços inoxidáveis ferríticos para melhorar a resistência à corrosão e estabilizar a estrutura ferrítica. Devido à afinidade com oxigênio no aço líquido, perdas de titânio por oxidação são comuns, sendo as adições realizadas após etapas de desoxidação. Inclusões de titânio podem causar obstruções na válvula submersa durante o Lingotamento e também defeitos superficiais no produto final. Técnicas para obter inclusões menos prejudiciais às propriedades dos aços têm sido empregadas e a obtenção de inclusões com ponto de fusão mais baixo após tratamento com cálcio tem se mostrado efetivo. Os objetivos deste trabalho foram avaliar a composição química das inclusões no aço inoxidável 409 após adições de titânio no Forno Panela e o efeito da adição de cálcio no comportamento das inclusões. Amostras do aço líquido foram retiradas no Forno Panela em corridas com e sem adição de Ca-Si. A composição química das inclusões foi analisada no MEV-EDS.

In the early 1990?s, Inco successfully installed two new flash furnaces as part of their SO2abatement project to reduce SO2 emissions from the Copper Cliff Smelter by 60%. The flash furnace off-gas is cooled and cleaned through two new Monsanto Dynawave gas cleaning systems that replaced the traditional venturi scrubbing system. It was discovered that the flash furnace production capacity is often limited by the capacity of the gas cleaning system. The key task is to eliminate pressure drop from the system. The froth column is responsible for by far the largest pressure drop in the gas cleaning system. Initially, the column was fitted with 22 plates. In 1994, both #1 and #2 froth columns were modified by reducing the number of plates in each column from 22 to 18 and increasing the interplate spacing on lower plates. With increasing demand for more throughput in the flash furnaces, further modifications on the froth columns were made in 2005. This paper describes these modifications and results together with some fundamental analysis of the froth column characteristics.

Inco flash smelting blows industrial oxygen, dried Cu"Fe-S concentrate, Si02 flux and recycle materials horizontally into a hot (-1500 K) furnace. Once in the furnace, the oxygen reacts with the concentrate by Reactions 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3 to give: (a) liquid matte, 55 to 60 mass%Cu (b) liquid slag, 1 to 2 mass% Cu (c) off gas, 60 to 75 volume % S02. The matte is tapped into ladles and sent to converting, Fig. 1.3. The slag is tapped into ladles, and sent to a stockpile; with or without a Cu-from-slagremoval step. The off gas is water-quenched, cleaned of dust and sent to a sulfudc acid plant. The [nco flash furnace is also used to recover Cu from molten recycle converter slag. The slag is poured&apos; into the furnace via a steel chute and water-cooled door, Fig. 3.1. In 2000 there are five Inco flash furnaces in operation: at Almalyk, Uzbekistan (Ushakov, et at. 1975); Hayden, Arizona (Marczeski and Aldrich 1986); Hudey. New Mexico (Belew and Partelpoeg, 1993); and Sudbury, Ontario (two furnaces, Carr etal, 1997, Humphris et ai, 1997; Molino et ai, 1997). The Almalyk, Hayden and Hurley furnaces smelt Cu-Fe-S concentrates. The Sudbury furnaces smelt Ni-Cu-Co~Fe-S concentrates&apos;to produce -45% Ni+Cu+Co matte and -1% Ni+Cu+Co slag.

"Inco Gold Company was created in 1987 as an unincorporated business unit of Inco Limited. In 1988, Inco Gold Management Inc. was incorporated to supply management, exploration and engineering services to this unit. The first new project, at Casa Berardi, Quebec, was brought to production in September 1988, less than two years after completion of exploration. For 1989, Inco Gold&apos;s exploration and capital expenditures have been budgeted at approximately $94 million, a record level. Inco Gold holds interests in more than 80 precious metals ventures and prospects in Canada, the United States, Brazil, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and France. The most advanced projects, in addition to Casa Berardi, are at Mineral Hill, Jardine, Montana, where initial production is anticipated in the third quarter of1989, and Crixas in central Brazil, where production is scheduled to begin during the fourth quarter of the same year.BackgroundTraditionally, Inco Limited&apos;s mineral exploration has concentrated on nickel and other base metals but since the early 1980s Inco&apos;s exploration activity has focussed strongly on precious metals, principally gold. As a result, three deposits have been discovered and developed . In order to accelerate the establishment of a strong gold mining enterprise with its own specific growth and profit objectives, Inco Gold Company was created in 1987 as an unincorporated business unit. At the end of 1988 Inco Gold&apos;s share of drill-indicated gold reserves was approximately 14 million short tons containing 3.4 million ounces of gold.At Casa Berardi in northwestern Quebec, one mine is in production and another is planned to open in 1990. Properties at Crixas in Brazil and at Jardine, Montana, U.S.A., were being readied for production in 1989. By 1991, Inco Gold&apos;s share of gold production is expected to be 125 000 ounces with a target of 400 000 ounces annually by the mid-1990s."
