"Vale has been actively evaluating new technologies to curtail diesel emissions. This paper discusses the selection, installation, operation, and evaluation of the MANN+HUMMEL SMF®-AR diesel particulate filter system to reduce diesel particulate matter emissions in underground mines. The system uses a sintered metal filter element, an iron fuel-borne catalyst with an onboard dosing system, an electric heater that uses onboard power, and a sensor-based control unit. More than 6,000 h of testing demonstrated that the system represents a breakthrough in the successful control of soot emission from light-duty vehicles with differing soot emission levels, exhaust temperatures, and duty cycles.RÉSUMÉ La compagnie Vale évalue activement de nouvelles technologies pour réduire les émissions de diesel. Le présent article discute du choix, de l’installation, du fonctionnement et de l’évaluation du système MANN+HUMMEL SMFMD-AR de filtrage des particules de diesel pour réduire les émissions de particules de diesel dans les mines souterraines. Le système utilise un élément filtrant en métal fritté, un catalyseur à base de fer dans le carburant avec un système de dosage intégré, un élément de chauffage électrique qui utilise l’alimentation incorporée et une unité de contrôle avec un capteur. When a gasoline locomotive is used in a mine there is danger of the noxious gases of the exhaust vitiating the air, but if enough air is circulating in those parts of the mine in which the locomotive is used, these gases are so diluted that they are rendered harmless, and the health of the workmen is not affected. In some mines the use of gasoline locomotives is impracticable, though in the majority of mines where they have been tried they have proved to be safe and economical. To determine the limitations that should surround the use of these machines in mines so that they shall not be detrimental to health and so that their economic advantage may be retained, it is necessary to ascertain the volume and the character of the exhaust gases and the amount of these gases that may be safely allowed in the mine air, and also to determine safe conditions of operation. The problem is primarily one of ventilation and like all ventilation problems must be intelligently computed to meet the conditions of each mine. The investigation described in this bulletin was undertaken 'by the Bureau of Mines in an endeavor to obtain exact information on some of the basal questions involved in the use of gasoline locomotives in mines, this investigation being one of many that the bureau has been conducting in its efforts to increase safety and efficiency in mining.

Coal has been mined by hydraulic means in various countries, i.e., the hydraulic excavation as well as the hydraulic transportation of coal has been practiced. The hydraulic breaking (excavating) of the coal dealt with in this report is done with a monitor directing a continuous jet of water against the coal, pressures of the water fed to the monitor range from 1500 to 2500 psi at 1000 to 2100 gallons per minute Transportation of the coal from the face is by fluming if a gradient exists in excess of 2 or, when a favorable gradient does not exist, the coal is pumped from the face by various types of pumps which can also provide a means of hoisting the coal to a higher elevation as required. This report presents: 1.) preliminary design and systems specifications of a demonstration miner (referred to in this report as a hydrominer), 2.) mining configurations showing good promise for typical U.S. thick coal seams in three seam pitch categories, (0° - 7° = Flat, 8° - 250 = Moderately pitching, 26° - 90° = Steeply pitching), along with cost and performance analyses for each system, 3.) a definition of a test program that will provide sufficient engineering data for the design of a water jet cutting head adequate to cut coal in those typical U.S. thick coal seams The cost analysis data showed hydraulic methods to be economically competitive with present thick seam raining methods. It was also obvious from studies of thick seam methods that the hydromonitor coal breaking techniques are more effective in removing most of the coal with its long reach of 60 ft. (or more), is a safer mining system, and produces very low coal-dust content in the air (usually less than 0.25 to 0.5 mg/cubic meter). It is recommended that the USBM sponsor a full fledged continuation of the hydraulic mining program: (a) lab, test, (b) preliminary field test, (c) full scale mine section demonstration.

"Maximizing the value of each tonne of processed ore is the goal for all operations. Cyanidation processing of gold-copper ores has been challenging since its first use in 1889. The current practice treats a bleed or the total flow of mill solution to recover copper as copper sulfide (by sulfidization, acidification, recycling, and thickening), or to recover the cyanide (by acidification-volatilizationneutralization). The process presented uses the adsorption of copper cyanide by carbon and the selective elution of copper from carbon to concentrate copper into a smaller stream. Copper contained in the smaller stream is precipitated as copper cyanide.RÉSUMÉ Toutes les exploitations ont pour objectif commun d’optimiser la valeur de chaque tonne de minerai traité. Depuis sa première utilisation en 1889, la méthode de traitement par cyanuration des minerais aurifère et cuprifère s’est révélée complexe. La pratique actuelle traite la saignée ou le débit total d’une solution de traitement du concentrateur pour récupérer le cuivre sous la forme de sulfure de cuivre (par sulfuration, acidification, recyclage et épaississement), ou pour récupérer le cyanure (par acidification, volatilisation et neutralisation). Le procédé présenté dans cet article utilise l’adsorption sur charbon actif de la solution de cyanure de cuivre et l’élution sélective du cuivre depuis le charbon pour concentrer le cuivre en un plus petit jet. Le cuivre contenu dans ce plus petit jet est précipité sous forme de cyanure de cuivre."

"INTRODUCTION The Iron Mountain deposits were examined in the summer of 1943 by engineers of the Bureau of Lanes, and a diamond-drilling project was set up under the Strategic Minerals Program. Actual drilling operations, under the supervision of a Bureau engineer, commenced November 9, 1943, and were completed on November 1, 1944. When the Bureau began detailed exploration of the Iron Mountain deposits, the Federal Geological Survey participated. Dr. I. W. Newhouse, of the Survey, and Dr. A. F. Hagner, of the Wyoming Geological Survey, were assigned to the investigation.ACKNOWLEDGMENTSIn its program of exploration of mineral deposits, the Bureau of Mines has as its primary objective the more effective utilization of our mineral resources to the end that they make the greatest possible contribution to national security and economy. This paper outlines the results of a relationship developed during the design and construction of the foundations for the Gallery Towers project in Melbourne. Both the builder and the piling contractor were determined to arrive at a satisfactory foundation solution to the problems encountered at the site. The scope of piling work was to provide load-bearing piles under the building columns, some of which were located within a retention system that also required a piling solution. Geological conditions were variable and challenging. The site area was small and located adjacent to the National Arts Centre in the developed Southbank area, a high density office area. This presented logistical problems in limiting construction traffic on site and also demanding minimal noise and vibration emanating from piling activities. The piling contractor, Vibro-Pile, and the builder, Walter Construction Group, faced the challenges presented with a refreshing cooperative attitude that was beneficial to both companies. Commercial issues rising from design and construction problems were first put apart in order to allow the respective technical department of each company to work with minimum constraints to achieve the most cost effective solution. In the process usual adversarial attitudes resulting in loss of time and money was avoided. A number of issues were addressed successfully at minimum cost and time during this contract. Despite the difficulties encountered, the job was completed on time and with negligible claims for extras, resulting in the development of a strong mutual respect between both companies.

"This paper presents key outcomes of a major Asia-Pacific Partnership project between the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation and Huainan Mining Industry Group Co. Ltd. to develop and demonstrate advanced technologies at Pansan mine, Huainan, China. A comprehensive approach assessed fundamental strata and coal seam methane conditions during mining and optimized mining sequences and coal mine methane capture systems. The project demonstrated a practical approach and procedures for advanced coal and methane co-extraction systems, improved mining safety and efficiency, increased methane capture and use, and reduced fugitive methane emissions.RÉSUMÉ Le présent article donne les principaux résultats d’un grand projet de partenariat Asie- Pacifique entre le CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation) [Organisation de recherche scientifique et industrielle du Commonwealth australien] et le Huainan Mining Industry Group Co. Ltd.; ce projet cherche à développer et à démontrer des technologies avancées à la mine Pansan, à Huainan, en Chine. Une perspective globale a évalué les conditions fondamentales des strates et du méthane dans les couches de charbon durant l’exploitation et a optimisé les séquences d’extraction et les systèmes de captage du méthane dans les mines de charbon. "Water evaluation and management during mining exploration and operational activities is crucial to minimise direct and indirect operational costs and also in delivering mining companies the less tangible, but equally critical æsocial license to operateÆ.Mining is often carried out in remote areas, where the mine will be the most significant and visible user and potential contaminator of water resources. However, wherever it is located, a mineÆs use of water must be managed in the context of two key aspects: the natural parameters of the resource; its abundance, its temporal variability and its chemical and physical qualities other users of the resource; other industry, potable water supplies and ecological requirements of local habitats.It is vital, therefore, that this commodity be assessed to an appropriate degree to help establish the viability and sustainability of the mining project and identify those other stakeholders who may be affected by the mining companyÆs activities.This paper outlines the background to catchment-scale model and presents a cost-effective method for establishing a robust water baseline and creating a water management tool to be used throughout whole mine life cycle. Numerical surface and groundwater modelling has long been established as a tool for reactive management, following collation of yearsÆ worth of data. Now, using freely available remote sensing data and desk study information, analytical modelling techniques can be used cost effectively to provide mining companies with a tool for assessing and managing their water consumption requirements at the outset of a new project venture.The paper includes a selection of case studies to show how the use of analytical modelling can be used as an evaluation and management tool to help not only assess general watershed parameters and water availability but also how it can be used as a tool to provide decision makers with the information to complete æwhat if?Æ scenario assessments. We have conducted a stress analysis of overcoring stress measurements undertaken at the Zedex Test Site (ZTS) in the Äspö HRL, Sweden. Two different types of overcoring cells have been used at the site: the 9-gauge Borre Probe (CSIR-type) and the 12-gauge CSIRO HI cell. Inversion programs based on the least-squares criterion were developed and calibrated. The primary and secondary stress field in the ZTS were back-calculated using strain data from individual cells as well as from combining data from both cells. We propose that the combination of strain data from the two cells significantly improves the determination of the stress field. A striking result is the good agreement between the re-analysed overcoring data and the existing hydraulic fracturing data. The deviations for the horizontal stresses between the re-analyzed overcoring data and the existing hydraulic fracturing data are approximately 3 MPa. The deviation in the orientation of maximum horizontal stress is approximately 10-20°. Nous avons analysé les résultats de mesures de contrainte par surcarottage réalisées sur le site Zedex, du laboratoire souterrain HRL d’Aspö, en suède. Deux types de cellule de mesure ont été utilisés sur ce site : la cellule à 9 jauges (du type CSIR) et la cellule à 12 jauges (du type CSIRO HI). Un programme d’inversion mettant en œuvre une norme par moindres carrés a été développé et validé. Les champs de contrainte primaires et secondaires du site Zedex ont été évalués d’une part en considérant chaque mesure isolément, d’autre part en intégrant l’ensemble des données de déformation dans une inversion unique. Nos résultats suggèrent que l‘association des diverses mesures dans une intégration unique améliore nettement la détermination du champ de contrainte. Un résultat intéressant est le bon accord entre ces nouveaux résultats et les résultats des mesures par fracturation hydraulique. Les écarts sur l’amplitude des contraintes horizontales est de l’ordre de 3 Mpa, les écarts sur les orientations de l’ordre de 10-20°. Auf dem Zedex Test Gelände im Äspö Festgesteinslabor (HRL) wurde eine Spannungsanalyse mittels Overcoring Spannungsmessungen durchgeführt. Hierzu wurden zwei verschiedene Methoden verwendet: das 9-kanal Borre Gerät (CSIR- Ausführung) und die 12-Kanal CSIRO HI Zelle. Inversionsprogramme, die auf dem “least-squares”- Kriterium basieren, wurden entwickelt und kalibriert. Das primäre und sekundäre Spannungsfeld des Zedex Test Geländes wurde sowohl aus Verformungsdaten individueller Zellen als auch aus Kombination beider Zellen ermittelt. Wir nehmen an, daß die Kombination der Messergebnisse beider Geräte die Bestimmung des Spannungsfeldes signifikant verbessert. Überzeugender Beweis hierfür ist die gute Übereinstimmung der überprüften Overcoring Daten und Ergebnisse aus existierenden Hydraulic Fracturing Versuchen. Die Abweichungen der horizontalen Spannungen aus beiden Datensätzen ist etwa 3 MPa und Abweichungen der Orientierung der größten Horizontalspannung liegen bei etwa 10-20°.

"SUMMARYThe K.M.A. reservoir was discovered to be oil bearing at a depth of 3,719 feet on March 11, 1931. Extensive development, however, was not begun immediately, because the discovery well had a low initial daily oil production, and market conditions for oil were unfavorable. Development of the field progressed slowly for the next 6 1/2 years. In the latter part of 1937, a wildcat well approximately 2 miles southwest of the discovery well was drilled on a magnetometer high and completed with an initial flowing production of 2,016 barrels of 43° A.P.I.-gravity oil in 12 hours. Rapid development of the southwestern part of the K.M.A. field was begun immediately and continued until over 700 wells were drilled and approximately 12,500 acres proved oil productive.Because of the large size of the entire K.M.A. field, this report is limited in scope to the southwestern part only, and the discussion that follows pertains to this area only. The closing date for production statistics is August 1, 1949.The K.M.A. structure is a complex anticline having a maximum closure of 250 feet, and the K.M.A. formation is composed of sediments that grade from limestone through sandy lime and limy sand to sandstone with thin streaks of shale. Two distinct members of the K.M.A. formation, zone I and zone II, are oil productive. Core analyses indicate the average porosity to be 16.5 percent for zone I and 16.1 percent for zone II. A relationship was established from core data, which showed the correlative permeabilities to be 42.1 millidarcys for zone I and 39.5 millidarcys for zone II, whereas the arithmetical averages of the permeabilities were 84 millidarcys for zone I and 216 millidarcys for zone II. Connate water saturations were 17.5 percent for zone I and 20.0 percent for zone II. The porosity-saturation method, using a thickness-correction factor, was employed to calculate the volume c 168.1 million barrels of stock-tank oil initially in place in the reservoir. Analyses of the reservoir oilIn that, although the initial reservoir pressure was 1,750 p.s.i., the original reservoir oil was saturated to only 1,300 at which pressure 1 barrel of stock,tank oil contained 525 cubic feet of gas in solution.A serious decline in reservoir pressure during the 2 years of rapid development alarmed the operators and caused them to consider a cooperative pressure-maintenance program. In the latter part of 1939, the K.M.A. Pressure Maintenance Association was organized, and the gasoline plants in the field agreed to process the wet gas and return the dry gas to leases having gas-injection wells. Approximately 27 percent of the cumulative volume of produced gas had been returned to the reservoir by August 1, 1949."

Double benching has been utilized as an excavation technique in open pit mines for many years. This process involves drilling, blasting, and excavating the material for the design bench height. A second bench is then excavated without the creation of a catch bench, i.e. only minimal offset from the first bench face is allowed when drilling off the second bench. The result is a double high bench face or double bench. When drilling off the second bench, the offset of the drill from the bench face projects the lower bench face into the pit up to an extra five meters. This reduces the maximum attainable bench angle, enhances the probability of rock escaping the catch bench and increases the overall strip ratio. The generally utilized process of trim blasting also can impact on the final bench profile by contributing to blast damage of the face. BHP Billiton Diamonds Inc., Ekati Mine Diamond MineTM, has pioneered the usage of a technique that eliminates this offset. Double benching is accomplished by drilling a single, 30m pre-shear (two 15m benches) to define and protect the final bench profile. This article provides a comparison of the attained face angles obtained in the field utilizing both of the above methods, as well as a comparison with the analytically predicted angles prior to excavation.

Between 1987 and 1988, the Bureau of Mines studied the mineral resources of the White River National Forest and part of the Arapaho National Forest to appraise the resources present and to determine the types of deposits, and their location, that could be mined economically if sufficient demand and metal prices existed. The study included a comprehensive literature search and a limited amount of field investigation of minerals and mining activity in and near the Forest. Mineral resource information indicates that in the Gore Range the area between Tennessee Pass and Gilman may contain large base-and precious-metal deposits, and could be the focus of exploration activity in the near future. The Breckenridge mining district was found to have a moderate to high likelihood for mineral exploration and possible development of gold. Recent exploration and minor development work has occurred in several other areas: Montezuma, Kokomo-Tenmile, and Upper Blue River districts, and portions of the Sawatch Range. Limestone, marble, sand and gravel, rock for crushed aggregate, and other industrial rocks have been recently mined or Quarried in the Forrest, and will likely be mined or quarried in the near future. Currently coal is being produced at one mine in the Forest, and extensive identified coal resources are located in the Forest. Parts of four known gas fields lie within the Forest west of Glenwood Springs; there is current production at one field.

The Bureau of Mines' Oil Shale Data Bank (OSDB) was created in 1976 to serve as a centralized source for the storage, retrieval, and dissemination of technical literature, patents, and information on research projects in oil shale. Thousands of bibliographic references, patents, and research projects relating to the mining of oil shale have been identified, abstracted, and indexed according to selected keyword topics. The resulting data bank listings are contained in three sections, each with a separate keyword breakdown for use in rapidly identifying references pertaining to a specific subject. All references cited in the OSDB were published prior to an established cut-off date of May 1, 1981, when a redirection of Bureau of Mines programs resulted in the loss of project funds and the subsequent phasing-out of data bank operations. ACKNOWLEDGMENTS The oil shale data bank listings are the result of a team effort of the project staff. The contributions of Jimaleen Jansma for keypunching, information acquisition, and data entry, and John Brandenburg and Sandra rake for keywording and information acquisition are gratefully acknowledged. ABSTRACT: This paper contributes to the study of underground structures in argillaceous media, especially Tournemire argillites (Aveyron, France). The basic results obtained over six years in two experimental drifts at the Tournemire site are presented. In situ measurements cover drift wall temperature, humidity and convergence. Delayed convergence represents around 50-65% of the total measured convergence. Analysis of the measurements has shown that delayed convergence is explained by the viscoplastic behaviour of the argillaceous formations. Lemaitre’s rheological model has been extended to the orthotropic case, as Tournemire argillite is naturally anisotropic. The triaxial creep test results on samples at different orientations enabled the parameters of the Tournemire argillite to be identified in terms of orthotropic viscoplastic law. A plane deformation model, using this rheological law and the initial stress field in the site, was developed to interpret the convergence measurements in the drifts. The computed results match the measurements well, especially during the excavation phase. KEY WORDS: Argillite, convergence, time-dependent behaviour, creep, viscoplasticity, modelling. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG: Der vorliegende Artikel ist ein Beitrag zur Untersuchung der unterirdischen Strukturen tonhaltiger Milieus, insbesondere der Tongesteine von Tournemire (Aveyron, Frankreich). Die wichtigsten Ergebnisse, die in zwei Forschungsstrecken am Standort Tournemine über einen Beobachtungszeitraum von sechs Jahren zusammengetragen wurden, werden hier vorgestellt. Gemessen wurden in situ Temperatur, Feuchtigkeit und Streckenkonvergenz. Von der insgesamt gemessenen Konvergenz sind etwa 50 bis 65 % auf zeitlich verzögerte Konvergenz zurückzuführen. Die Auswertung aller Messungen hat ergeben, dass die zeitverzögerte Konvergenz mit dem viskos-plastischen Verhalten des Tonsteinmassivs zu erklären ist. Aufgrund der naturgemäßen Anisotropie des Tongesteins von Tournemine wurde das rheologische Modell von Lemaitre auf den orthotropen Fall ausgedehnt. Triaxiale Kriechversuche bei jeweils unterschiedlicher Ausrichtung dienten der Ermittlung der einzelnen Parameter des orthotropen, viskos-plastischen Gesetzes. Zur Auswertung der Konvergenzmessungen innerhalb der beiden Strecken wurde unter Beachtung dieses rheologischen Modells sowie des ursprünglichen Spannungszustands vor Ort ein flächiges Deformationsmodell entwickelt. Die Rechenergebnisse zeigen eine gute Übereinstimmung mit den Messungen, insbesondere während der Vortriebsphase. RESUME : Cet article est une contribution à l’étude des structures souterraines dans les milieux argileux, notamment les argilites de Tournemire (Aveyron, France). Les principaux résultats obtenus pendant six années, dans deux galeries d’expérimentation au site de Tournemire, sont présentés. Ces mesures portent sur la température, l’humidité et la convergence des parements des galeries. La convergence différée représente environ 50 à 65% de la convergence totale mesurée. L’analyse de l’ensemble des mesures a montré que la convergence différée est interprétée par le comportement viscoplastique du massif argileux. Etant donné que l’argilite de Tournemire est naturellement anisotrope, le modèle rhéologique de Lemaitre a été étendu au cas orthotrope. Les résultats des essais de fluage triaxial, sur des échantillons à différentes orientations, ont permis de déterminer les paramètres de la loi viscoplastique orthotrope. Un modèle en déformation plane, utilisant cette loi rhéologique et l’état de contrainte initiale dans le site, a été développé en vue d’interpréter les mesures de convergence dans les galeries. Les résultats des calculs sont en bon accord avec les mesures et plus particulièrement durant la phase de creusement. The literature dealing with the drilling of oil wells has become extensive during the last few years, and oil men can find much information relating to drilling muds in the technical literature of the petroleum industry. Although large tonnages of clay are used in preparing drilling mud (also known as drilling fluid), almost no information has been published to apprise the clay industry of the types of minerals used, with their requirements and limitations. A computer program has been developed by Newmont Exploration to convert mineralogic data by XRD into rock type and ore type classifications. This method has proven useful in identifying lithology from cuttings samples, where percussion drilling was an alternative to expensive core drilling. Computer printouts of rock type and ore type identifications can be generated simultaneously with mineralogic analyses, resulting in a considerable time savings in manual calculation. XRD-computer logging was first applied to the Carlin mine in north central Nevada, and later to the Maggie Creek and Gold Quarry gold deposits, southeast of the Carlin mine. Impure Paleozoic limestones of the "lower plate" Roberts Mountain Formation and the "upper plate" transitional facies have been decarbonatized to altered siltstones and shaley units along vertical faults and permeable stratiform horizons. Advanced stages of decarbonatization were accompanied by silicification. Quantitative XRD data are initially sorted into principal rock type units (limestones, siltstones, dolostones, shales) based on major mineralogic components (calcite, quartz, dolomite, clays). On the basis of relative amounts of less major constituents, descriptive subclassifications (dolomitic limestones, dolomitic siltstones, argillaceous cherts) are made. XRD lithologic data provide assistance in correlating lithologic units, and delineating favorable replacement horizons associated with gold mineralization.

This study assesses whether Narragansett Basin coal deposits could be developed commercially in the near future. To do this, we identify the potential market for the coal, assess the price these users would be willing to pay for Narragansett coal, and this price to the expected costs of producing Narragansett coal. The study concludes that the major market, New England utilities, could burn bituminous coal from Pennsylvania or West Virginia at a lower total cost than Narragansett Basin coal, assuming expected mining conditions and emission policies. Therefore, the study concludes that Narragansett Basin coal resources could not be developed economically in the next ten years.

A computer program was developed to simulate transient strains and stresses during an overcoring in the situ stress measurement. The solution is based on superpositioning of elastic stresses. The measured strains can be compared with the calculated ones to check if the measured transient behaviour is accordant with the interpreted in situ state of stress. If not, the in situ state of stress can be calculated based on any transient or final strain values. The transient stresses can be compared with the strength envelope of intact rock and thereby estimate the core damage potential. Technically, the developed code fulfilled all the objectives, and the numerical error was found to be less than 5%. The basic idea can be applied also for different overcoring probes with minor modifications and recalculation of stress tensors. The analysed case studies showed clearly the advance of having an objective and practical quality control method to study the reliability of the in situ stress measurement data. The study was set up and funded by the nuclear waste management companies Posiva Oy ( Finland ) and Svensk Kärnbränslehantering AB ( Sweden ). Un programme informatique a été développé pour simuler des tensions et des contraintes passagères pendant la mesure in situ de contrainte de surcarottage. La solution se fonde sur une superposition de contraintes élastiques. Les contraintes mesurées peuvent être comparées avec celles calculées pour vérifier si le comportement passager mesuré correspond à l'état de contrainte in situ interprété. Sinon, l'état de contrainte in situ peut être calculé à partir de n'importe quelle valeur de contrainte passagère ou finale. Les contraintes passagères peuvent être comparées avec l'enveloppe de force de roche intacte et ainsi il est possible d'évaluer le potentiel de dégâts au noyau. Techniquement le code développé a rempli tous les objectifs, et le taux d'erreur s'est révélé être inférieur à 5 %. L'idée de base peut être appliquée aussi pour différentes expériences de surcarottage avec des modifications mineures et le recalcul de tenseurs de contrainte. Les études de cas analysées ont montré clairement l'avantage d'avoir une méthode de contrôle de qualité objective et pratique pour étudier la fiabilité de données de mesure de contrainte in situ. L'étude a été fondée et financée par les sociétés de gestion de déchets nucléaires Posiva Oy (Finlande) et Svensk Kärnbränslehantering AB (Suède). Es wurde ein Computerprogramm entwickelt, um Transient-Beanspruchungen und Spannungen während eines Überentkernens in situ-Spannung-Messung zu simulieren. Die Lösung beruht auf Superpositionierung von elastischen Spannungen. Die gemessenen Beanspruchungen können mit den berechneten Daten verglichen werden, um nachzuprüfen, ob das abgemessene Transient-Verhalten mit dem interpretierten in situ-Zustand der Spannung übereinstimmt. Wenn nicht, kann der situ-Zustand der Spannung auf irgendwelchen Transient- oder endgültigen Beanspruchungswerten berechnet werden. Die Transiet-Spannungen können mit dem Stärke-Umschlag des intakten Felsens verglichen werden und dadurch ein Kernbeschädigungspotential kalkulieren. Technisch erkannte der entwickelte Code alle Ziele und hat gefunden, dass die numerische Fehler weniger als 5 % waren. Grundsätzlich können auch verschiedene Überentkernen-Untersuchungen mit kleineren Modifizierungen und Wiederberechnung des Spannung-Tensors angewandt werden. Die analysierten Fallstudien zeigten deutlich den Fortschritt, objektive und praktische Qualitätskontrollmethode zu haben, die Zuverlässigkeit in Situ-Spannung-Messung-Daten zu studieren. Die Studie wurde aufgestellt und durch Atommüll-Management-Firmen Posiva Oy (Finnland) und Svensk Kärnbränslehantering AB (Schweden) finanziert.
