The electrolytic zinc plant, with a capacity 75,000 tonnes per year, is part of Zaklady Gorniczo-Hutnicze BOLESLAW. It is the biggest zinc producer in Poland. The electrolytic zinc plant started up in 1955 with a capacity 15,000 tonnes per year, and multiplied its production by 5 till nowadays. At the beginning, the plant processed only calcine from zinc oxides (60% Zn, 3-4% Pb, 0,03 % Cd) which were produced from Waeltz fumes by calcination in a rotary kiln. Participation of calcine from zinc sulfide concentrates in the feed grew during the BOLESLAW plant expansion. Currently, only roasted sulphide concentrates, calcine from fluid-bed roasters, is processed. This paper presents a general description of the ZGH BOLESLAW plant and discusses the processes of roasting, leaching, purification and electrolysis. Also shown are the chemical analyses of the various process materials.

The geotechnical characteristics of the ore are important in understanding the kinetics of a copper heap leach. These characteristics can indicate potential problems and can be used to determine the semi-quantitative changes in field kinetics as compared with column kinetics. The application of this approach allows a more rigorously based determination of ?scale up factors? than has been the case the date. The shrinking core model has been shown to be a poor predictor of leach kinetics based on the crushed ore size distribution. However the model itself is a very useful tool to analyse commercial heap data. Significant geotechnical parameters such as: bulk density / stress characteristic, limit moisture capacity and particle density are used to determine the effect of changes on the diffusion controlled leach rate. By consideration of the geotechnical reaction of the ore mass the leach rate changes are related to changes in these variables. Analysis of commercial heap data has indicated effective diffusion lengths of up to ten times the largest particle size.

"The majority of chromium electroplating operations employ Cr(VI)-based baths. During these processes, Cr(VI) is reduced to Cr(III). Besides Cr(III) other undesirable impurities are present such as iron, copper and nickel. The build-up of the impurities limits the lifetime of the plating solutions. Since the disposal of spent chromic acid baths is expensive and can cause significant environmental degradation, there is increasing interest in finding ways to regenerate waste chromium liquors.In this work, an electrolytic cell separated by microporous ceramic diaphragms was used to regenerate chromium plating solutions. The effect of the ceramic diaphragm structure parameters, such as porosity and pore size, on the performance indicators of the electrochemical reactor (fractional conversion, current efficiency, product yield, specific energy consumption) was investigated.The fractional conversion, the product yield and the current efficiency increased and the specific energy consumption decreased with the decrease in porosity.IntroductionChromic acid is widely used in industrial applications such as steel manufacture, metal finishing industries, aluminium anodising, pasivation of cadmium, magnesium, and zinc, etching of plastics and another industrial operations related with processing ferrous and no ferrous metals [1]. "Greenstone Resources Ltd. constructed and operates the Santa Rosa open pit, heap-leach gold mine in Veraguas, Panama. The project was commissioned in 1995 at a designed capacity of 1.8 million tons per year. The ore exhibits a long leach up to three years, and requires three stage crushing to minus 3/8 inch to achieve on average a 74% gold recovery. The crushing plant is required to handle high volumes of clay and the circuit includes a Barmac Crusher. Panama receives over 3 meters of rain annually and Greenstone is using innovative means to control the project's water balance. Greenstone has developed a successful approach to operating a low grade (1.5 gm Au/T) deposit under difficult operation conditions.ABSTRACT ONLY"
