"The paper describes the results of the flotation tests with complex rare metal ores from deposits in the Trans-Baikal Territory. Correlations between the quality of produced wolframite, hubnerite and mica concentrates with or without the presence of various alkaline modifiers are determined. Commonly, rare metal ores contain minerals of comparable value to main elements recovered in processing plants using gravitational methods. The paper describes the results of flotation recovery of valuable minerals – main and associated – from gravity tailings of deposits in the Trans-Baikal Territory. It was found that gravity tailings from the first deposit contained fine-grained wolframite, mica (muscovite, lepidolite etc.), feldspar; hubnerite, scheelite, beryl, fluorite, rubidium-containing muscovite from the second deposit, correspondingly. This paper presents the results of the stage flotation tests with the production of tungsten (wolframite, hubnerite), fluorite and mica concentrates from gravity tailings. Figure 1 demonstrates the flowsheet of tungsten ore minerals and mica stage flotation from gravity tailings of the first deposit.Wolframite can be floated using oleic acid with the presence of soda ash, a complexing collector (IM-50), under slightly alkaline conditions in combination with a nonpolar collector [1, 2, 3, 4]. The study included wolframite flotation using the combination of two alkaline modifiers. Flotation of wolframite was performed after pulp desliming, using tall oil saponified with soda ash. The recovery of wolframite in the concentrate of rougher flotation reached 80-85%; the concentrate contained up to 1% of tungsten oxide that can be upgraded to a saleable product using gravitational methods. This procedure was tested during flotation of wolframite, tantalite-columbite and pyrochlore, and provided high performance regardless of a season, at pulp temperatures of 8-10°C, though fattyacid collectors are significantly inefficient at such low temperatures due to low solubility, dispersion and increased collector consumption, consequently. The introduction of two alkaline modifiers in pulp appears to improve these characteristics.The first stage of the tests was focused on increase of iron-bearing tungsten ore minerals recovery from gravity tailings and stabilization of the cold pulp flotation process."

"Energy is the major concern for society. It is expected that developing country economies and populations will grow and consume more energy. Interest in nuclear power is rising, while the world looks for non-depletable energy source that will not contribute to global warming. However, it still has concerns of nuclear proliferation, radioactive waste and safety. It is necessary to overcome these concerns if nuclear energy is expanded to developing countries. Thorium (Th) utilization as nuclear fuel will be an opening key of these difficulties because Th produces less Plutonium (Pu) and less radioactive waste with enhanced safety. Research into the use of Th as a nuclear fuel has been taking place over forty years, through with much less intensity than that for uranium (U) or U-Pu fuels. Nuclear industry is currently using only 0.7% of the available energy from mined U. With huge resources of Th and relatively little U, Turkey has made utilization of Th for large-scale energy production a major goal in its nuclear power programme. Thorium fuel is plentiful and inexpensive. Energy is major concern for developing Turkish society. Turkey, today exports more than 70% of its energy as fossil fuels. In the last 50 years, Turks are skeptical, anxious and indecisive about having nuclear energy for electricity production. In the last 10 years, Thorium is brought into Turkish government’s attention and national discussion as a new, safe, clean, affordable, CO2-free, alternative, strategic and domestic nuclear energy fuel. Turkey recently contacted four VVER-1200 type Russian Nuclear Power Reactors using U as a fuel in Akkuyu (Rosatom) and another four units will be established in Sinop in the next decade by Japan (Mitsubishi-Westinghouse). Turkish nuclear programme must envisage use of domestic Th as a fertile material. This paper briefly reviews the developments of Th-fuel cycle for nuclear energy from global and Turkish perspectives. Previous Th reserve development and recovery studies from Turkish bastnasite ore are summarized in this paper."

"The aim of this work is to seek the inhibitors of the meteoric and bacterial dissolution of sulphides and gangue minerals to stop the undesirable chemical reactions during conservation of the flotation wastes. The approach of passivation of surfaces by chemical treatment of the solid phase is applied for this objective.The samples taken from different depths of an old French waste dump revealed the capacity of the flotation tailings to produce acid waters (pH 1.8-2.4) and to release heavy metals. Mineralogical studies show not only the product of sulphide oxidation, i.e. sulphates, but also the complex transformations of aluminosilicates in acidic liquid phase. The detection by XRD of aluminium hydroxides (gibbsite, boehmite) allows supposing the recrystallisation phenomena during tailings conservation.Comparative tests of the passivation of the surface of sulphide minerals and waste of flotation with using of conventional reagents (CaO, NaOH, phosphates) and original reagents for this purpose (alkyl dithiocarbamates) allow to identify the optimal treatment conditions and the efficient chemicals.Leach tests were carried out in percolation columns during 68 weeks. The normalised leaching tests according to French legislation were run to confirm the selected treatment conditions. The results obtained show that a single treatment with carbamate inhibits the oxidation of the pyrite and the other sulphides, and totally prevents the formation of acid waters (the stabilised pH was 5.3-5.8). Treatment of in situ drainage water allows to obtaining a total precipitation of heavy metals: the residual concentrations of Fe, Cu and Zn are lower than 0,1 mg/l.The passivation of sulphides is the result of the formation with carbamate (studied by IR spectroscopy and XPS) of organometallic compounds, which are stable in acid medium. The presence of thiuramdisulphide (product of alkylcarbamate oxidation) at the mineral surface stabilises the mixed adsorption layer and leads to a considerable reduction in the hydratation rate of surface by avoiding the corrosion of the pyrite. No aluminium was detected in leach solution with this treatment."

"The use of ultrasonic in industrial processes has increased during the last few years. Ultrasonic vibrations are used in sieving, grinding, ore washing, cleaning, and flotation in mineral industry. There are also some attempts for the utilization of ultrasonic treatment in separation and removal of fine particles from gases and liquids. In Kalemaden A.S. (Turkey) four different types of clay mixtures (1. A mixture of clays from Balikesir-Düvertepe and Istanbul-Sile, 2. A mixture of clays from Ukrania and Balikesir-Düvertepe, 3. Sögüt-Kadikelimesi, 4. A mixture of clays from Sögüt and Istanbul-Sile) and kaolin from Balikesir-Düvertepe (Turkey) are concentrated before their use in ceramic production. Dewatering is the important step in those types of concentration plants. Sedimentation of concentrated clay has always been difficult and taken long times due to their nature and having small particle sizes. Flocculants can be used to enhance the sedimentation, but they are not preferred by the ceramic industry since they affect the quality of ceramic products. For this purpose, ultrasonic treatment is used in the sedimentation of clays mentioned above for solving the problems encountered related to the ceramic industry and promising results were obtained.Kaolin sample, subjected to this experimental study, from Balikesir-Düvertepe region of Turkey was brought from the plant as a pulp in containers and throughly mixed with a stirrer before sedimentation experiments. A two liter graduated cylinder and an ultrasonic bath (with 25 kHz frequency and 0.5 KW power) were utilized in the tests. Superfloc A-120 (1% concentration) was used as a flocculant. The settling distance was reported against the settling time during the experiments. Initial and final pulp densities were also determined. The effects of several parameters such as pulp density, flocculant addition, and ultrasonic treatment on the sedimentation of kaolin were investigated and the results are represented in terms of settling distance versus settling time."

"The long-term studies on development of the technology for precious metals recovery using activated carbons executed by Irkutsk Research Institute of Precious and Rare Metals and Diamonds (IRGIREDMET) were finished by successful introduction of ""Carbon-In-Pulp"" process in Russia (1984).The review of some studies, accompanied by development, testing, introduction and subsequent improvement of considered technology, carried out by IRGIREDMET is submitted in this paper.The basic regularities of gold and silver adsorption onto activated carbons from cyanide, thiourea, chloride and other solutions are investigated using various phisical-and-chemical methods ( X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Voltammetry, X-ray microanalysis etc.). Using voltammetry it was found that gold cyanide is adsorbed onto activated carbon without chemical changes and partial reduction of gold is possible only during drying of carbon samples before analysis. Metallic gold and silver may be dissolved in boiling cyanide solution at argon atmosphere when they are in contact with activated carbon surface. Gold adsorption mechanism for activated carbons has great differences from that for the ion exchange resins. So the most probable mechanism for gold adsorption from cyanide solution is adsorption of neutral molecules Me n+[Au(CN)2-]n.X-ray quantitative microanalysis technique was developed to investigate gold adsorption kinetics onto spherical activated carbon. Gold profiles in granules of activated carbon for various adsorption conditions were tested (carbon particle size, mixing efficiency, adsorption time etc.). Mathematical methods were used to determine gold diffusion coefficient within activated carbon granule.The properties of various types domestic and foreign activated carbons were tested and the demands to activated carbons suitable for gold extraction were determined. As a result foreign and Russian activated carbons AG-90, AG-95 were recommended for use at Russian gold plants. Domestic adsorbents are cheaper in comparison with foreign activated carbons. The methods to restore carbon adsorption activity including acid treatment and thermal reactivation were tested and implemented."

"Various methods are used to identify the grain composition of fine-grained materials because so far the best notion of the grain size has not found and there is no single method to define grain size. In practice the most important are the following grain sizes: sieve diameter dt, effective diameter de, substitute diameter d2 and statistical diameter dst. The mentioned sizes are connected with the methods of analyses. Methods are correct but measure of different diameters of grain and their results are different.The most important methods of granulometric composition analyses are the following: the sieve analysis, the sedimentation method and the conductometric (Coulter-Counter) methods. In each of these methods various physical features connected with the grain size are measured.Sizes of grains defined by different formulas or measurement methods are associated mutually by dependencies, which are results of differences in their determination or calculation ways.In order to determine principles of results comparison the classification analysis results on linearly or non-linearly connected was made. Analyses which results demonstrate the same type of grain size distribution are treated as linearly connected. It is based on the general formulae which determines the probability density function of random variable which is the function of another random variable having the known density function.In order to show the difference in the grain composition of the same material qualified by different methods, three methods of investigations were distinguished. They are: the sieve analysis performed on precise sieves, the sedimentation analysis performed by means of a sedimentation balance “Sartorius” and the microscopic analysis performed after preparing a microscopic slide where the grain size was measured by the Martin’s method.The materials selected for the analysis were quartzite and glass, which are the material of high purity.The obtained results of mentioned above three types of analyses were approximated by distribution function of four distributions: Weibull, log-normal, cut Weibull and Gaudin-Schuhman."

"Zeolites are naturally occurring as hydrated aluminosilicate minerals. They belong to the class of minerals known as “tectosilicates” and are related to the common minerals feldspar and quartz. Seven natural zeolites that occur in large, commercially exploitable deposits, are: clinoptilolite, chabazite, mordenite, phillipsite, erionite, analcite, and ferrierite. Among them, clinoptilolite is the most abundant one and is not the best known, but is one of the more useful natural zeolite. Clinoptilolite [(Na3K3) (Al6Si30O72) 24 H2O] is very closely related to heulandite and is currently being considered for disuse it self as it may just be a variety of heulandite. It differs from heulandite significantly only in its enrichment in potassium and slightly more silica and it is argued that a separate mineral is not needed.There are large zeolite deposits in western part of Turkey. The sample used in this study was taken from the Gördes region of these deposits. Screen, chemical, XRD and mineralogical analyses were used to determine properties of the natural zeolite sample used in this work.According to the size distribution of the sample, it is found that the zeolite sample used in this study is below 1 mm in size and almost 80% of it is below 0.5 mm. X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and mineralogical analyses show that the natural zeolite is found to be in the forms of clinoptilolite and heulandite. Clinoptilolite forms as a devitrification product of volcanic glass in tuffs. Quartz, clay minerals, orthoclase, plagioclase, biotite, seruzite-muskovite and epidote were observed as impurities. XRD analysis also shows that the sample contains approximately 58-60% clinoptilolite, 5% quartz, 5% feldspar, 10% smectite, 5- 10% illite and mica and remaining volcanic tuffs. Several types of mineral processing methods were performed in order to remove impurities from the natural zeolite sample to produce high purity zeolite. Gravity separation methods such as shaking table and superpanner were carried out for separating heavy minerals, while high intensity dry magnetic separation was used for discarding magnetic minerals."

"One of the challenges the mineral processing industry is facing is caused by the fact that water resources in mining areas are becoming very limited and the cost of water is increasing. The water sources in arid regions often have high salt content. Environmental regulations are forcing plant operations towards completely closing the water cycles within plants. This means that impurities (salts, reagents, ions dissolved from minerals, etc.) accumulate within the circuit that will affect the flotation performance. Water purification can significantly increase the operating costs therefore it should be carefully considered weather the impurities need to be completely removed or is there a tolerable level of impurities that can still be left in the process water without significant deterioration of the flotation performance? Several additional questions arise: what are the tools that help identify what is a tolerable level of impurities? How do the different impurities interact and what is their effect on the process? The effect of frothers on the dynamic properties of air/liquid interface in different size-scales has been extensively studied by the authors in the past. Based on these studies a frother characterization framework was developed that systematically examines the dynamic surface properties of the air/liquid interface in relation to the bubble size. This work can be considered as tool that could be used for the above mentioned purpose. The present study investigates weather the same frother characterization framework can be applied for systems where both frother and different types of salts are present. Nasfroth 240 was used as a frother, in combination with structure-breaker KCl or structure-maker NaCl and CaCl2. Bubble size measurements in laboratory scale mechanical flotation cell and laboratory flotation column and dynamic surface property measurements (dynamic surface tension and dilatational elasticity) were performed. The results highlighted the addition of salt to the frother solutions significantly decrease the bubble size and increase the froth high. The coalescence behavior of bubbles showed correlation between the D32 and ionic strength of salts. The results highlighted that the studied structure maker and structure breaker salts effect the dynamic surface properties in different way."

"Platinum Australia Limited (“PLA”) is currently undertaking a Feasibility Study into the development of the Panton Platinum Palladium Project located in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. The Panton Intrusive is a layered, differentiated mafic to ultramafic structurally complex body that has undergone numerous folding and faulting events. This has resulted in a southwesterly plunging synclinal structure some 10 kilometres in length and 3 kilometres wide.High grade PGM mineralisation is hosted within a number of stratiform chromitite reefs within the ultramafic sequence. The focus of the Feasibility Study is on the Top Reef which is situated approximately 150 metres below the mafic/ultramafic interface. The average true width of this reef is approximately 1.2 metres and the reef has a defined resource is 10.1 million tonnes at an average grade of 6.1 g/t PGM + Au.The Palladium to Platinum ratio of the Top Reef is approximately 1.15:1 and the reef also contains an average of 0.4 g/t Au and 0.3 g/t other PGM’s. The Panton ore is considered refractory in nature and standard flotation techniques achieve a PGM + Au recovery of less than 65% with a concentrate grade of less than 100 g/t PGM + Au. As part of the Feasibility Study Platinum Australia in conjunction with their major shareholder Lonmin Plc developed a new metallurgical process which has achieved an overall PGM + Au recovery of approximately 80% into a high grade PGM concentrate which is suitable for feeding direct to a PGM refinery.THE PANTON PROCESSThe Panton Process incorporates a two-stage Milling and Flotation circuit with no cleaning stages to produce a low grade, high recovery flotation concentrate. Typically the concentrate mass constitutes 25% of the feed and has a PGM + Au grade of 25 g/t.This low-grade concentrate is subjected to calcination in a rotary kiln or fluid bed at a temperature of approximately 400 0C for a period of 60 minutes. This step is designed to render the platinum minerals soluble in cyanide and both the temperature and the duration of calcination are critical to the efficiency of the leaching process."

Improving food security by increasing crop output is a primary objective for most countries in the sub- Saharan region. Most soils in the region are deficient in phosphorus an important nutrient after nitrogen in plant growth. Phosphates are therefore used together with nitrogen and potassium based fertilizers in improving crop production. Zambia like many other countries in the sub-Saharan region imports phosphate fertilizers for use by its farmers. However, indigenous phosphate deposits of igneous origin exist in Zambia of which the main ones are Chilembwe in Petauke district, Mumbwa sugarloaf in Mumbwa district, and Nkombwa Hill in Isoka district. If commercially exploited, these deposits could become a ready source of inexpensive phosphate for the local farming communities in the country. Previous research has shown that partially acidulated phosphate rock (PAPR) produced using Chilembwe phosphate rock is just as agronomically effective as the imported superphosphate fertilizers on food crops in most of the Zambian soils. PAPR is produced by reacting finely ground phosphate rock with only a fraction (usually 50%) of the stoichiometric quantity of the sulphuric acid required to fully convert the apatite in the rock to monocalcium phosphate thus making the process cheaper in terms of acid consumption than the poduction of single superphosphate where the apatite in the rock has to be fully converted to monocalcium phophate. The factors that affect the percentage of available P2O5 in the PAPR produced include particle size of phosphate rock, degree of acidulation, concentration of acid, process temperature profile, residence time and drying temperature. These factors were studied in a 25kg/hr PAPR pilot-plant in the School of Mines at the University of Zambia using Chilembwe phosphate rock. The PAPR pilot-plant consisted of a rotary drum granulator as the main reactor, a rotary drum dryer and a triple deck vibrating screen. Ground phosphate rock was reacted with sulphuric acid and water in the granulator to form a granular product which entered the drier. The dry product was screened into three size fractions. The 1 – 4 mm size fraction was the final product whilst the –1mm size fraction was recycled. The +4mm size fraction was sent to a crusher while the crushed PAPR was sent back to the screens.

"This work presents the results of the development of a flowchart for the processing of copper production dusts resulting in the production of of lead sulphate, tribasic lead sulfate (TBLS), ammonium perrhenate, zinc, copper-cadmium cake.Dust having the following composition (wt. %): Pb 39.3, Zn 6.5, Cu 5.5, Stotal 10.8, As 1.05, SiO2 0.6, Cd 0.8, Bi 0.04, Ag 0.02, Re 0.03 was used in the work. Chemical and X-ray analyses indicated that lead, zinc and copper are generally present in dusts in the form of sulfates, various amounts of oxides, sulfides, silicates; sulfur (according to chemical analysis data) is present in the form of sulfates (~ 90%) and in the form of sulfides (~ 10%).Studies have been made on two-stage stripping of copper production dusts containing lead, zinc, copper, cadmium, rhenium in the form of various compounds, at first with soda solution, then with nitric acid solution. It has been indicated that the combination of the operations allows the recovery of 98% rhenium, 82% lead, 92% copper, and 96% zinc and cadmium each in the solution. Furthermore, at the stage of dust leaching with soda, 80% of rhenium and 0.01% of nonferrous metals each are recovered in the solution. Remaining quantities of all metals are recovered in nitric acid solution up to maximum values. Such behaviour of metals is caused by metal phase content in dusts and properties being formed during leaching of compounds. At the stage of dust leaching with soda solutions, carbonates with various compositions are formed due to the exchange reaction between nonferrous metal sulfates and sodium carbonate. The conversion of PbSO4 into PbCO3 is apparently occurs in the solid phase and the conversion of readily watersoluble zinc, copper, and cadmium sulfates into that of carbonate salts occurs in the liquid phase. Rhenium passes into solution due to the presence of rhenium greater quantity in dust in the form of readily soluble perrhenate. Some portion of the perrhenate is, probable, blocked by lead sulfate and liberated in the conversion of PbSO4 into PbCO3."

"Coal-fired electrical power generation plants produce 56% of all the electricity in the U. S., burning approximately 860 million tons of coal annually. This results in production of 58 million tons of fly ash; 19 million tons of bottom ash and boiler slag, and 23 million tons of desulfurization sludges. These are a considerable disposal problem, and it would therefore be very valuable to be able to sell these residues and byproducts as useful materials, rather than paying to dispose of them in landfills. However, utilization rates are currently very low, below 32% even for the most thoroughly commercialized combustion byproduct (fly-ash). This poor utilization rate is a result of the high impurity content of combustion byproducts, which make them unsuitable for existing markets. The experiments described in this paper were therefore carried out to study the application of mineral processing techniques to upgrading combustion byproducts.Experiments were conducted to upgrade and purify low-grade combustion products to produce highgrade, readily saleable materials. A process was developed for removing unburned carbon from coal fly-ash by froth flotation, using reagents originally developed for flotation of oxidized coals. This technique could reduce the carbon content of fly-ashes containing up to 11.1% carbon to less than 2%. The froth product was sufficiently carbon-rich that the recovered carbon has value as fuel, or as low-grade activated charcoal.Fly ash was also examined as a binder for producing iron ore pellets, primarily as a substitute for bentonite. It was found that Class F fly ash in combination with an activator (calcium hydroxide) was an effective pellet binder at dosages comparable to the currently-used dosages of bentonite clay. While the flyash worked very well alone, tests in combination with bentonite showed that fly-ash/bentonite mixtures had significantly worse binding performance than either pure bentonite or pure fly-ash-based binder. This was determined to be due to the fact that bentonite and fly ash have profoundly different binding mechanisms, with fly-ash undergoing a pozzolanic chemical reaction while bentonite binds through a physical attachment process."

"In the article carrying out technique of experiments for estimation of power efficiency of process of crushing in cone crushers «in a layer». The conformity of the granulometric characteristics of the crushed products obtained as a result of the tests, the theoretical equations for the size characteristics, and the choice of the optimal equation for the prediction of the granulometric characteristics of the final products obtained by crushing ""in a layer"". Optimization of granulometric composition of power of crushers working ""in a layer"" is carried out with the purpose of reduction of the electric power consumption at reception of a product of required quality. As a result of the experiments, dependencies are obtained, the relevance and applicability of the crushing process ""in the layer"" for obtaining crushed stone of improved quality is proved. INTRODUCTION A number of equations have been proposed for calculating the breakage energy. These include equations by Kirpichev and Kick, Rittinger and Bond (Bogdanov, Olevsky, 1982). Another equation for calculating the specific breakage work in breakage by impact and in stratum was proposed by Devyatkin (Boiko, 2003). In these equations, the breakage energy is proportional to the particle size raised to some power. In the equation proposed by Devyatkin, the ore piece thickness or the feed average diameter is used. The relationship between energy and breakage can be expressed as an equation (Lynch, 1981; Tikhonov, no. 3, 2008) where k is a coefficient characterizing the energy parameter depending on the strength of the feed, l is size in microns. The Rittinger formula is obtained for n = 2, the Kirpichev-Kick formula for n = 1, the Bond formula for n = 1.5. For n = 3 or higher, the equation describes fine and ultrafine grinding. R. Hookey proposed a formula (Lynch, 1981, Tikhonov, no. 3, 2008), where the size exponent n is substituted by a size function In all of the above equations, a single value of the feed and product size is used; for example, in the Bond equation, size is defined as the particle size of the 20% oversize (P80 and F80). However, a single size value can represent multiple distributions, making that the Bond method inappropriate for determining the size (Lynch, 1981). Describing an equation for estimating the grinding energy will allow to design the electric drive and ore preparation circuit for the given breakage method."

"The methods of heap leaching are considered to be the most promising for the low-grade copper-nickel raw materials. The article presents intensification capabilities of the process. Objects of research: the low-grade copper-nickel ores of Moncheplutone deposits (Moroshkovoye Lake, Nyud Terrasa, Nittis-Kumuzh’ya-Travyanaya (NKT), as well as the copper-nickel ore dressing tailings of the “Kola MMC” JSC. The following directions for the intensification of the low-grade copper-nickel raw materials heap leaching have been considered: preliminary electric pulse destruction (EPD) of ore; ore crushing and further sulfuric acid agglomeration. The impact of sulfuric acid concentration (1-3%) on the extraction of non-ferrous metals kinetics from the copper-nickel ore dressing tailings under various conditions of the percolation leaching has been studied. INTRODUCTION The low-grade grade sulfide ores at the abandoned and producing deposits, overburden rocks, mill tailings and non-ferrous slag are thought to be one of the large-scale sources for non-ferrous metals, on the one hand. On the other hand, they are known to be the subjects of emergency environmental danger. For this reason, the use of mine dumps and tailings, as well as the remained ores left in the ground as raw products, and at the same time decreasing the load on environment, are considered to be the pressing ecological and economic issue (Chanturia et al., 2012). Methods of heap hydrometallurgical and bacterial leaching are sure to be potentially productive for processing such low-grade and technogenic raw materials (Petersen, 2016). The early studies of hydrometallurgical method possibility to process copper-nickel ores of the Murmansk region deposits were launched in the seventies of the previous century (Golovko et al., 1978). For referencing purposes, the main types of impregnated ores from the deposits Zhdanovskoye, Kaula, Sopchinsky Plast and Lovnoozerskoye were selected. The metal content varied, as %: 0.46-1.49 of nickel, 0.01-0.62 of copper. In the first experiments, the solution containing 150g/l of H2SO4 and 135g/l of NaCl, was used in the capacity of leaching reagent. The possibility of underground metals leaching from the ores of the Lovnoozerskoye deposit was justified due to the performed laboratory and further large-sized tests."

"Drilling solid waste is a typical industrial solid waste, and it is a major pollutant source to ecological environment. Generally, waste management dewatering systems separate solids and fine particles from the liquid phase of drilling fluid, thereby leaving a clarified aqueous solution and allow the cleaning of waste fluids. Typically, dewatering waste management systems clean drilling fluid through coagulation, flocculation and/or mechanical separation. Chemicals used in dewatering are based on the coagulation-flocculation process, which it facilitate the removal of suspended solids and colloidal particles. The factors which can promote the coagulation-flocculation are velocity gradient, contact time, and PH. The objective of this work is to optimize a formulation adequate for dewatering based on the coagulation-flocculation process used coagulant (Aluminum sulphate), anionic flocculants (Partially Hydrolyzed Polyacrylamide) and anionic polyelectrolytes (in solid form with linear chain with very high molecular weight). The results obtained show the good efficiency of the coagulant and flocculants. INTRODUCTION Rig site dewatering of drilling fluids with recycling of processed water can help an operator to comply with environmental rules by reducing volumes of waste and reducing long term liabilities. It can also reduce disposal costs and provide a cleaner drill site overall. Most of the environmental concerns during the 1980s involved hazardous materials and toxic wastes. Drilling fluids, many of which are chemically benign, have escaped many of the difficult-to-comply-with rules and regulations. During the 1990s, however, operators may be required to submit a written plan for liquid waste reduction for even nonhazardous materials. Many states and local agencies may institute total bans on oil field wastes. Drilling rigs typically produce about 1 bbl of liquid waste for every 1 ft of hole drilled. Thus, a typical drilling operation can produce a large quantity of waste [1]. To improve the dewaterability of sludge, different pretreatment processes have been widely studied and developed including thermal, chemical, magnetic, mechanical, acoustic, electric, electro-acoustic and their hybrid treatment processes [2]. Rig site dewatering (figure 1) is the process of injecting coagulants or flocculating chemicals into the mud entering a large clarifying centrifuge. Coagulation occurs when the solid and allowing it to be attracted to other solids by van der waals forces. Flocculation is the binding of individual solid particles into aggregates of multiple particles. It is physical, rather than electrical, and occurs when one segment of a flocculating polymer chain absorbs simultaneously onto more than one particle [3]."

Column flotation is being widely adopted for fine particle treatment by the mineral processing industry due to its simplicity of structure, high efficiency and good separation performance. Cyclonic static micro-bubble column flotation (FCSMC) is an innovative column separation technology that has been successfully applied in the coal preparation industry in China. Recently, the application of this equipment has been further expanded to the separation of several minerals such as fluorite, copper, iron, etc. The bottom of the FCSMC is a cone in which cyclonic field is generated when circulating pump is injected tangentially into the column. The unique cyclonic structure is believed to help enhance the column separation performance. Since the FCSMC is a new flotation device, little work has been done to understand the fundamentals of this technology. In this research, a computational fluid dynamics software, ANSYS/ FLOTRAN, was employed to simulate the flow field of a lab FCSMC system (F0.2 m, F3.0 m by length.) The distribution patterns for velocity field and flow field were investigated under single phase condition. It has been found that axial velocity of the slurry decreases and becomes stable along the height of the column from bottom to top, and the slurry performs as a descending flow pattern. Another observation is the velocity fluctuates vigorously near the wall due to wall effect. Compared to axial velocity, the radial velocity distribution is smaller and more complicated. The basic pattern is that on a given cross section of the column radial velocity increases from the wall to the center and it the velocity changes greatly around the center. Under the condition of column height less than 0.8 m, the axial velocity is negative and it directs from the wall to the column axis. When column height is higher than 0.8 m a reverse pattern is obtained, i.e., axial velocity is positive while directing from column axis to the wall. Special efforts were directed to investigate the tangential velocity pattern. Results indicate that the tangential velocity patterns of different cross sections are similar and showed a symmetrical distribution. Tangential velocity distribution concluded two zones: outer whirlpool and inner whirl-pool. And, interestingly, it has been found that on different cross sections the highest tangential velocity always occurs at the same position of the cross sections.

"The Talnakh Concentrator was put into operation in 1981 using a direct selective process to produce copper, nickel and pyrrhotite concentrates.In 2001, a novel selective-bulk-selective (SBS) technology for the concentration of massive sulfide ore was implemented, that allowed to increase the valuable components recovery into target concentrates with feedstock grinding coarser than before. In 2003-2005, the process upgrading included the differentiated processing of nickelpyrrhotite products recovered at the different concentration stages and made it possible to significantly enhance the contrast of the pentlandite and pyrrhotite flotation properties and to simultaneously increase separation of polymineral intergrowths.The next stage of the PD concentration complex development is the Project ""Talnakh Concentrator Reconstruction and Technical Upgrading"" to raise its capacity by half. The project has three Phases.• Phase 1. Pilot startup was carried out in January 2015 following the installation of new OK-100 TC flotation machines, manufactured by Outotec.• Phase 2. The introduction of a new technology developed by the Polar Division specialists launched in mid-2016. The new technology is based on maximization of iron and sulfur removal into tailings and maintenance of non-ferrous and precious metals losses at the same level.After the realization of Phase 3, the annual capacity of the Talnakh Concentrator will raise by another ~ 40% at the expense of processing cuprous and disseminated ores currently being processed by the Norilsk Concentrator.By 2023, due to upgrading of the PD production facilities the emissions to the atmosphere will reduce by 75%.Polar Division of PJSC MMC Norilsk Nickel (PD) searches for the ways to solve its environmental issues. Thus, in 2016, the Nickel Plant was shutdown and a new flowsheet was introduced at Talnakh Concentrator. It resulted in the reduction of sulfur specific amount sent to pyrometallurgical processing as a component of the concentrates.The Talnakh Concentrator was put into operation in 1981 using a direct selective process to produce copper, nickel and pyrrhotite concentrates.In 1981, its design capacity for processing of Cu-Ni ores from Oktyabrsky and Taimyrsky Mines did not exceed 3 million tons per year.In 2001, a novel selective-bulk-selective (SBS) technology for the concentration of massive sulfide ore was implemented at the Talnakh Concentrator, that allowed to increase the valuable components recovery into target concentrates with feedstock grinding coarser than before."

"The extent and nature of the damage to diamonds at processing plant is largely determined by the design features of the equipment, the characteristics of the feed ore and the parameters of the ore disintegration process (change in the rotational speed of the autogenous mills, variations of the water supply to comminution process, choice of the optimum charge, etc.). To monitor the intactness of diamonds, an instrumental method using the X-ray tomography system and colored synthetic indicator diamonds was developed for identifying the process-related damage. The X-ray tomography system consists of a CT-Portable X-ray tomographic scanner, a crystal positioning device and customized software (developed by the Fraunhofer Institute and Aliud GmbH, Germany). The developed method enables improvement of the accuracy of the results, exclusion of the subjectivity of the mineralogical assessment, acceleration of data processing and promptly planning of the activities aimed at reducing the process-related damage to diamonds. INTRODUCTION Industrial tests of ore processing technology at the enterprises of ALROSA PJSC are accompanied by assessment of the process-related damage to diamonds. The assessment of the process-related damage to crystals is carried out for prompt elimination of factors contributing to the increase of impact forces in the process flow sheet of ore treatment plant. For this purpose a specially selected parcel of -4.0 + 2.0 mm sized natural indicator diamonds is used. The diamonds are exposed to ionizing radiation in order to turn them green and thus to create a distinctive feature. Colored natural indicator diamonds are described, photographed in several views and introduced into the process flow sheet of the processing plant, then extracted from the process flow, described and photographed again. The comparison of diamonds before and after their passing through the process flow sheet of the plant allows to find evidence of process-related impact on the crystal and to calculate the factor of process-related damage (the number of crystals damaged during liberation and recovery), the loss of crystal weight and the degree of damage to the crystals. The method of colored indicator diamonds is used to select processing methods, equipment or regime which would be the safest for diamonds based on the analysis of the factors of process-related damage. "Flotation of metal-organic precipitate in column is sensible to the hydrodynamic conditions determined by the diameter and dispersion of rising bubbles. Thus, the dissipation energy in the system resulting of ratio between superficial fluid velocities (gas and feed) in the column is main parameter for precipitate flotation in pilot or industrial scales. The knowledge of aggregate structure can lead to better understanding and control of many solid-liquid separation processes (sedimentation, filtration, thickening and flotation). Many authors highlight the importance of structural properties (i.e. floc density) for different industrial applications.This approach was applied to achieve the flotation of molybdenum precipitate obtained with organic collector a- benzoin oxime for molar ratio 1:2. Flotation tests were carried out at lab and pilot scale with rigorous control of the size distribution of bubbles and the values of dissipation energy in the systems.Structural evolution of Mo precipitate and the destruction phenomenon were described by using of the various fractal dimensions, which were deduced from experimental data of laser sizer devices and optic microscopy pictures of precipitate. The boundary fractal dimensions Df of large aggregates allows the detection of a structural scaled organisation of the precipitate flocs (elementary germs-microflocs-flocs). The fractal dimension of the particle mass distribution Dm=1.94+/-0.15 suggests, for the floc structure, a cluster-cluster aggregation process either with structuration or breakage phases.The destruction process characterised by a fractal dimension Dg controls the final size distribution. The floc destruction occurs for the lowest values of the dissipation energy (0.02 – 0.05 W/kg). The relation between Dg and the system dissipation energy Et (for various energy E dissipated in the agitation cell) involves the different breakage mechanisms of aggregates in function of the aggregation bonds (Fig. 1).Besides, the destruction of floc produces very fine particles (elementary germs or/and microfloc according to E), and thus induces the difficulties of bubble-particle attachment during the precipitate flotation in column. Yet, very small bubbles, which increase the collision probability, would make the flotation feed rate decrease. The optima ratio between superficial gas and feed velocities are determined for bubble size and flotation results control at pilot scale. Thus, it is possible to providing the catastrophically changes of precipitate column flotation by using the following established experimental relation: the mean diameter d of the flocs under the action of dissipated energy Et follows a power like law (d~Et -0.5). This allows estimating the size distribution of flocs for the E values which can appear in column."

"Depressants play an important role in the selective separation of impurities from iron minerals by direct or inverse flotation. In this paper, sodium co-silicate (SCS) with chemical formula of Na4SiCO6, as a depressant with pH modifier features, has been synthesized and used for phosphorus bearing iron ore in anionic reverse flotation. In this process, phosphorus is floated while the iron oxides are depressed, using fatty acids as collector in an alkaline medium. Batch and pilot flotation tests were carried out to investigate the influence of SCS on the separation selectivity of phosphorus from iron oxides. Also the depression mechanism of SCS on hematite surface was investigated by microflotation tests and FTIR spectroscopy measurements. The flotation results indicated that without using a pH modifier, the pH of pulp could reach up to 10, when SCS was used as depressant. In this condition, a better depression performance was observed compared to sodium silicate (SS). Using the SCS, phosphorus and total iron content in iron concentrate was 0.046% and 66.29%, respectively, compared to SS where these values were 0.06% and 65.75%, respectively. As a result the weight recovery of iron concentrate was increase by around 4%, compare to SS. It was also found that 238 g/t of SCS could be used instead of 3 types of reagents collectively, including 32 g/t of NaOH, 151 g/t of Na2CO3 and 400 g/t of SS gel.INTRODUCTIONThe phosphorous presents in iron ore minerals is mainly in the form apatite mineral. The apatite is separated from iron ore minerals by magnetic and flotation methods (Ma, 2012). The reverse anionic flotation of iron is one of the most common method for removing phosphorus from iron concentrate (Araujo et al., 2005).Usually apatite minerals are readily floated using anionic collectors such as fatty acids (Ma, 2012). In this conditions the iron minerals are depressed and by modifying the pH in alkaline conditions, selective separation of phosphorus from iron concentrate can be achieved. Depressants including; sodium silicate (SS), starch, dextrin, guar gum and humic acids play an important role in the reverse flotation of iron ore (Kar et al., 2013; Ma, 2012; Turrer and Peres, 2010; Araujo et al., 2005). Studies have shown that SS has a better effect on iron recovery and phosphorous reduction, compared with other depressants (Tohry and Dehghani, 2016; Qi et al., 1992, Dho and Iwasaki, 1990). In most flotation processes, modifiers are used to adjust the pH. To achieve alkaline conditions, mainly pH modifiers such as carbon dioxide and sodium carbonate are used."
