Investigou-se a extração seletiva de Ca e Mg do licor sulfúrico concentrado de Ni visando sua purificação. Observou-se que a mistura sinérgica dos extratantes D2EHPA + ácido naftênico apresenta maior afinidade na extração de Ca em pH = 5. Comportamento oposto foi verificado pelo extratante Cyanex 272, cuja preferência de extração é pelo Mg para 5 = pH = 6. A cinética de extração de Ca e Mg é rápida atingindo o equilíbrio em menos de 6 minutos. A purificação do licor de Ni requer a utilização de 2 circuitos de extração em operações estagiadas. No primeiro circuito, Ca pode ser removido do licor empregando-se o sistema orgânico D2EHPA (10% v/v) + ácido naftênico (20% v/v). O pH ótimo é 3,5, no qual foram extraídos 72% de Ca (ßCa/Ni = 40) em uma contatação. No segundo circuito, o licor deve ser submetido a uma extração de Mg pelo Cyanex 272 (20% v/v). O pH operacional propício é 5,5 com extração de 66% de Mg (ßMg/Ni = 16, uma contatação). O licor purificado de Ni pode ser encaminhado à etapa de eletrorrecuperação almejando-se a obtenção de Ni metálico.

The piezocone penetration test (CPTu) is one of the primary screening tools used by the mining industry to evaluate whether tailings are susceptible to liquefaction (static or cyclic). Liquefaction analysis using the CPTu is influenced by the fines content of the soil, and most CPT screening tools empirically use the behaviour type index (Ic) to correct for fines. The issue with this approach is that such empirical relationships have been developed using data collected from natural soils and their applicability to different tailings deposits needs to be studied. In this paper, we explore the use of machine learning to develop a site-specific model to estimate fines content of tailings using gamma piezocone penetration testing (GCPTu) measurements. The results are then compared to the fines content derived from the soil behavior type index (Ic) proposed by Robertson and Wride (1998). A dataset of paired GCPTu and laboratory results were compiled and a support vector machine (SVM) algorithm was employed to calibrate a model to estimate tailings fines content from in-situ GCPTu data. We calibrated GCPTu data to geotechnical 75 μm fines content measured in the laboratory. The geotechnical fines content is the fines content as a percentage of solids. The development dataset was comprised of paired GCPTu-laboratory results collected in 2009-2019 from a mining area with predominately clay mineral and quartz sand tailings. Results show that the developed model predicts the geotechnical 75 μm fines content of the studied deposits with 7.8% error. The Ic based method estimates the fines content with 31% error. Evidently, the Ic method is not applicable to the studied tailings deposits. It is appreciated that many tailings fines do not contain clay, and that the success on this program may not be repeatable everywhere. However, the authors wish to point out that the application of site-specific machine learning algorithms may be used to significantly improve empirical geotechnical parameters.

The steel for gas turbine compressor discs (26NiCrMoV14.5) requires some mechanical properties like strength, impact, toughness, fatigue, and creep resistance in order to be used in such application. To achieve the properties required for the gas turbine compressor discs, the material should have very low contents of sulfur, phosphorus, antimony, tin and arsenic. The level of cleanliness should also be very high and this is possible by achieving low oxygen content keeping the deoxidation elements like silicon, manganese and even the aluminum in very low percentages. The main problem in refining such steel is to adjust a sufficiently low oxygen content to have a good desulfurization and at same time a good cleanliness without using silicon, manganese or aluminum as deoxidizers. Combination of initial selection material, steelmaking process control, forging sequence and heat treatment cycles can provide uniform mechanical properties throughout the gas turbine compressor discs. Villares Metals SA as a big player on special steels with complex process has been developing this kind of material for several years. The objective of this work is to show the process technology evolution involved in the production of this kind of steel under the discussed preconditions.

"High-temperature superconductors have potential for a variety of applications such as power generators, superconducting magnets for mine sweepers or ship propulsion motors, and magnetic levitation transportation systems. Interest in the use of superconducting wires and tapes increased dramatically after the discovery of high-critical-temperature (high-Tc) oxide superconducting compounds, which offer operating temperatures above that of liquid nitrogen. Several techniques have been proposed to produce commercially viable high-Tc oxide based superconducting wires. One of the promising methods involves multi-pass powder-in-tube (PIT) wire drawing followed by rolling and heat treatment. This work focuses on the development of a numerical model to simulate the PIT drawing process for fabrication of long lengths of silver sheathed Bi-2212 superconducting wires. The finite element based model was used to predict densification of the oxide powder, wire drawing forces, and silver sheath thickness during drawing. A cap-type pressure dependent constitutive equation was implemented in the model to simulate the powder behavior. The model incorporated experimentally obtained material data for the silver and powder. Results indicate that powder densification is increased by decreasing the initial silver thickness and increasing the silver strength. Data from wire drawing experiments were used to verify model predictions. IntroductionSuperconducting wires and tapes can be used to carry large dc currents with no measurable loss due to resistivity. When used in superconducting magnets for power generators, motors, levitation devices, magnetic detectors, or energy storage devices, they could potentially result in significantly reduced energy losses. In the past, most prototypes were tested in liquid helium at 4.2K [1]. However, the necessity to provide liquid-helium cooling systems proved to be a serious limitation in commercialization. In 1986 high-critical-temperature (high-Tc) oxide superconductors were discovered [2], which could allow for higher operating temperatures above liquid nitrogen (77 K). Since then, both academia and industry have concentrated their efforts on the development of high-Tc oxide superconducting wires, tapes and coils. As yet, large scale fabrication of long lengths of these wires with the required current carrying capacity and mechanical properties remains an enormous challenge."

Research to evaluate possible metrics for predicting dredgeability of compact aggregates, by hydraulically actuated clamshell dredges, shows work done by the pistons as a viable metric. Analysis of field data shows that there is a low, positive, correlation between cycle time (CT) and work done. If this correlation exists, then CT has to be considered an independent variable affecting work done during dredgeability assessment. Further research is required to elucidate the relationship between CT and work done during dredging. The objective of this paper is to test the hypothesis that work done during dredging increases with increasing CT. Kinematics and dynamics of the hydraulic clamshell were modeled and implemented in Simulink® in MATLAB. The model was validated using field data. The model was then used to test the research hypothesis. The results show that work done increases with increasing CT. This work confirms that work done during dredging increases with increasing CT. This result indicates that though an operator can increase the CT to deal with difficult digging, inputting unduly high CTs results in higher energy consumption during dredging.

No processo de beneficiamento mineral, a moagem é o último estágio da etapa de cominuição de minérios responsável pela redução das partículas à liberação do mineral a ser concentrado nos processos subsequentes. Um problema presente nesse processo é a moagem em excesso do material, que aumenta a potência consumida na moagem, dificulta a recuperação das partículas muito pequenas nas etapas de concentração e prejudica a operação de filtragem do processo de pelotização por entupimentos ocasionados pelo material mais fino do que o especificado. Para melhorar o desempenho da moagem e reduzir seu custo operacional, se faz necessário estudar estratégias de controle adequadas que controlem melhor as diversas variáveis existentes nesse processo. Nesse sentido, o objetivo desse trabalho foi utilizar um simulador de circuito de moagem com o intuito de comparar o desempenho da planta sendo controlada por controle clássico (PID), que é amplamente utilizado em circuitos de moagem, e por controle preditivo por modelo (MPC), que é aplicado em uma camada acima dos PIDs. Foi possível concluir que o circuito de moagem sendo controlado por MPC obtém melhor desempenho do que o PID, possibilitando trabalhar com as variáveis mais próximas de seus limites ótimos de operação.

O presente trabalho estuda a cinética de dessorção do hidrogênio em aços 9% níquel, comercial e tratado termicamente em diferentes condições, através da técnica de Espectroscopia de Dessorção Térmica (TDS). Para a identificação dos aprisionadores de hidrogênio e a determinação da energia de ativação para a dessorção, ensaios de TDS foram realizados a 3, 5, 6, 10 e 15°C/min. Foi identificado um pico de dessorção a 124,66 kJ/mol, classificando o referido sítio aprisionador de hidrogênio como interfaces de grãos de austenita retida, cuja presença é confirmada por microscopia eletrônica e difração de raios-X.

In November 1999, CCI's Empire Iron Mining Partnership and MinnovEX Technologies Inc. developed an expert system for advanced control of their Empire IV Grinding Section. Empire IV is comprised of three autogenous Primary Mills and six autogenous Pebble Mills, with a single Pebble Crusher and high pressure Roll Press. The challenges of controlling and optimizing three distinct grinding lines that are inter-woven by a pebble crushing circuit were met with innovative and unique solutions. This paper will detail the approach employed at Empire and will focus on the aspects that make this application unique.

The U.S. Bureau of Mines and the U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) are participating jointly in a research program to evaluate the strength characteristics and air-leakage resistance of various proposed seal designs for use in underground coal mines. The full-scale seals were constructed in the USBM's experimental mine at the Lake Lynn Laboratory, air-leakage tested, then subjected to pressure pulses of 20 psig or greater. In experiments prior to this study, seven seal designs using solid-concrete blocks were tested. Only the standard-type seal passed the explosion and air-leakage criteria. Tests also were performed on four seals constructed with low-density foam blocks. All four of these seal designs withstood the pressure pulse. In more recent studies, nine cementitious foam seal designs of varying thicknesses and densities were investigated. Six of the nine designs successfully survived the explosion overpressures. Six wood-block convergence seals also have been tested. The typical 3-ft-thick, wood-block seal design currently used in many coal mines did not maintain its integrity, in the absence of convergence forces, following the explosion test. Five modified wood-block seals successfully withstood the 20-psig pressure pulse. Based on these tests, three alternative seal construction materials, cementitious foam, low-density foam block, and wood, have been approved by MSHA for use in underground coal mines.

Preparation of pure scandium metal was accomplished by calcium reduction of the fluoride by two methods; a low-temperatzdre alloy process and direct reduction with subsequent distillation of the product. The following properties were determined: melting point: 1181OK; boiling point (calculated): 3000°K; lattice constants at 298°K (hexagonal lattice): a = 3.308 * 0.001 A, c = 5.267 * 0.003A; calculated density at 298°K, g per cm3: 2,990 + 0.007; electrical resistivity, ohm-cm: 299°K, 66.6 ± 0.2 x 10 -6; 373oK, 77.4 * 0.2 x 10 -6; thermal coefficient at 299°K, ohm-cm per deg: 5.4 X x; heat of sublimation at 298°K, kcal pel- mole: 80.79. The vapor pressure was determined as a function of temperature between 1505o and 1748°K, with the data fitted to a straight line shielding the equation: Log Pmm = -1.718 X 104/ToK + 8.298. SCANDIUM, element number 21, was first discovered by Nilson in 1879 and was recognized as the Ekaboron as predicted by Mendeleff. As it is in group III of the periodic table, the general properties are a little like aluminum and also resemble quite closely the properties of yttrium and the rare-earth metals, in both the metallic and ionic form. Although the earth's crust contains approximately 5 ppm of scandium (the element is as abundant as arsenic and twice as abundant as boron) it generally occurs so widely distributed that it has earned the reputation of being very rare. The one exception to this is the mineral thortveitite, which has been found in Madagascar (20 pct Sc2O3) and in Norway (35 pct Sc2O3). Scandium also occurs in small but distinct amounts in uranium and rare-earth ores; the recent larger scale processing of these materials has made some scandium available from these sources. As with other naturally-occurring monoisotopic elements (except Be), scandium contains an odd number of protons and an even number of neutrons. Scandium metal was first prepared by Fischer and coworkers1 in 1937 by electrolysis of scandium chloride in a molten eutectic mixture of lithium and potassium chlorides, using molten zinc as a cathode and collector of the scandium metal produced. The zinc was removed from the Zn-2 pct Sc alloy by vacuum distillation, leaving a product reported to be 94 to 98 pct Sc, with the main impurities being iron and silicon. They reported a melting point of 1400° C for this material. Scandium has also been prepared by the reduction of scandium chloride with potassium metal in a glass apparatus by Bommer and Hohmann in 1941,' resulting in a mixture of metal and potassium chloride; these workers did not isolate the metal proper, but the X-ray diffraction of the slag-metal mixture showed it to be hexagonal with a = 3.30A, c = 5.45A. petru3, 4 and coworkers have recently reported the preparation of the metal in a compact form by the reduction of either ScF3 or ScC13 with calcium metal and subsequent distillation of the product. This process probably yielded a metal of high purity, but they list no chemical analysis nor do they list any of the properties of their product. Previous related work in this Laboratory has been concerned with the production of yttrium and the rare-earth metals and the determination of their physical properties. Because of its similarity to these metals, scandium is being included in this study. PREPARATION OF SCANDIUM METAL The preparation of yttrium and the rare-earth metals may be accomplished by reduction of their fluorides with calcium metal in tantalum crucibles.5 This process leads to the introduction of tantalum (up to 0.5 pct) as an impurity in the higher melting rare earths, but since the tantalum occurs as dendrites, uncombined with the rare-earth metals, its presence is not objectionable in some cases. One of the problems that is occasionally encountered during the continuous casting of DIN 1.4003 stainless steel (hereafter referred to as 1.4003) is the side bulging effect, a problem that is generally prevalent in ferritic stainless steels. This occurs because the unconstrained narrow sides of the solidification shell are not able to withstand the ferrostatic pressure once the strand has emerged from the mould. Coupled with side bulging, there is strand width variation at high temperatures, i.e. when the steel is in the ferrite-austenite dual phase region. Both of these dimensional changes to the slab profile create some processing problems in subsequent hot rolling operations when unacceptable width variations are encountered. The strength of the solidification shell and its ability to withstand the ferrostatic pressure during continuous casting is dependent on its thickness and phase composition when exiting from the mould up to a few metres downstream. From the study of the high temperature metallurgical behaviour of this steel, it was observed that a thicker solidification shell when exiting from the mould and a higher austenite volume fraction in the steel would be favourable for the reduction of the side bulging effect during continuous casting. It was also found that as long as the d-ferrite to austenite phase ratio keeps fluctuating due to variations in chemical composition and process control in the dual phase region from cast to cast, the strand width variation problem would probably persist. The remedy to this effect lies in more strict chemical composition and process control during continuous casting of this steel. The hot ductility experiments revealed that 1.4003 exhibits good hot ductility in the strand straightening temperature range with a minimum of 75 per cent reduction in area and this was attributed to the high volume fraction of ferrite (0.2 to 0.4) in the steel. This would provide a remedy to side bulging by increasing the secondary cooling rate of the strand in order to form a thicker solidification shell without necessarily risking transverse cracking and other surface defects during unbending. Der in Jahrzehnten erworbene Schatz an Glaubwürdig-keit ist eine Basis, auf der die Braunkohlenindustrie ihre Zukunft gestalten kann. Darüber hinaus sind politische Rahmenvorgaben erforderlich. Das öffentliche Interesse an einer sicheren und preiswerten Energieversorgung unter Einschluss der Braunkohle ist unverzichtbar. In diesem Kon-text kann dann die Braunkohle die an sie gerichteten Fragen der Ökonomie, der Ökologie und der Sozialverträglichkeit auch mit Hilfe von Indikatoren beantworten.ABSTRACTThe discussion of the sustainability of lignite mining can only be continued successfully if the indus-try acts in a practical manner and demonstrates trustworthiness by responding fairly and reliably to open questions. This includes new and innovative technical solutions as well as the sensitive management of interests. The lignite industry has learned that openness and the constant effort to exchange viewpoints within their environment are all essential elements. The credibility that has been gained over the decades is the foundation on which the lignite industry can build its future. Beyond that a framework of political guidelines is necessary. Public interest in a secure and inex-pensive energy supply that also includes lignite is indispensable. In this context, the lignite industry will then be able to answer the questions which are directed at them and concern the economy, ecology, and social tolerability also by indicators."

The Kemess Mine tailings impoundment is retained behind an earthfill and rockfill dam that, when complete, will measure about 140 m in height with a crest length in excess of 1 km. Due to weak foundation conditions, the dam must be raised at a very flat downstream slope approaching 7H:1V. This requires an enormous volume of fill to construct the downstream shell of the dam, which has a low permeability clayey till core and is raised via the centerline construction method. For the initial years of annual dam raising, from 1996 through 2002, the downstream shell of the dam was constructed with non acid generating waste rock from the open pit, 7 km distant and requiring an uphill haul with obvious cost implications. To reduce costs, and to reduce waste haulage constraints on mining schedules, feasibility studies were initiated for raising of the downstream shell using cycloned tailings sand as opposed to open pit waste. This required inclusion of flotation cells for removal of residual sulphides from the tailings to produce the non acid generating product mandated for the downstream shell of the dam. These studies were positive, and cycloned sand construction was initiated in December of 2002. This paper describes the experience gained with cycloned sand construction for the dam. Unique aspects include environmental controls given the sulphide-bearing ores, preparation of the existing shell of the dam for subsequent placement of hydraulically placed cycloned tailings sand, on-dam settling ponds, water management issues, reclamation of the sand dam for erosion control commensurate with the wet climate, and use of the system to construct an above-water beach of non acid generating tailings to increase the closure security of the structure. A particularly unique aspect of the Kemess experience is hydraulic fill operations extending throughout the coldest winter months, as compared to other operations where such placement has traditionally been considered non-viable through the winter months

The considerable progress made in the sulfide smelting technology since the first International Sulfide Symposium of 1983 is discussed. The new developments and innovations have largely been driven by the recognition of environmental concern as well as the need for increased productivity. The smelting technologies for various nonferrous metals are reviewed, with an emphasis on the industry trend towards larger plants and continuous processes. The tremendous advances made in process modeling and computer simulation to describe the complex smelting processes are also reviewed. The goal of these mathematical models is the quantitative description of the processes and the reactors that will provide a means for the control and optimization of smelting operations as well as the optimal design of the operating conditions and the reactors. Environmental issues remain a key consideration in the smelting industry. One of the most remarkable improvements made in the last fifteen years since the 1983 Sulfide Smelting Symposium is the rapid increase in the sulfur capture by nonferrous smelters. This and other related issues are briefly discussed. Finally, the challenges that the smelting industry faces as the new millenium approaches are discussed. The industry continues to face technical challenges to improve productivity and efficiency, while being responsive to ever-increasing public pressure for environmental protection. It also faces external challenges from factors that may cause the reduction of metal uses as a result of substitutions by other materials. Another serious challenge and dire consequence that the primary metals industry is expected to face is the serious diminution of university-educated manpower as well as basic-research output. To remain competitive and healthy, the industry should take up the void left by the complete disappearance, at least in the U.S., and the reduction in other nations, of the governmental support of higher education and basic research in the field of primary metals production.

The metropolitan area of the Witwatersrand has grown up around the Witwatersrand gold mines. Most of the mines have now been abandoned, but deposits of waste material remain and have been surrounded, and in some instances covered, by urban and industrial sprawl. This paper describes the development of geotechnical measures for the abatement of air and water pollution from abandoned gold-residue dams in the Witwatersrand area. The measures include the stabilization of the surfaces of the dams to prevent wind and water erosion, the terracing of slopes to minimize erosion, and the construction of catchment walls and dams. The measures were developed in terms of the set of guidelines for environmental protection adopted by the Chamber of Mines of South Africa in 1979.

O trabalho surgiu mediante a necessidade de reduzir o custo na compra de anéis de laminação em 50% do que é praticado atualmente. Os anéis de laminação utilizados atualmente no 1º passe de laminação do laminador de perfis leves são anéis fabricado de aço ferramenta D2 e tem um custo alto para serem fabricados. No processo de laminação de perfis leves utilizamos cassetes onde são alocados esses anéis e para realizar a laminação de cantoneiras faz-se necessário a montagem de 4 anéis bi-partidos no eixo superior e 2 anéis bi-partidos no eixo inferior totalizando 6 anéis por cassete, além de reservas que temos que garantir para a realização de trocas por desgaste por laminação. Para o processo de fabricação de barra chata utilizamos 2 anéis de mesa lisa 1 no eixo superior e outro no eixo inferior, além de reservas para possíveis trocas. Tendo em vista o alto número de anéis que devemos ter para nosso processo resolvemos desenvolver esses anéis a partir de cilindros sucatas de um dos laminadores de nossa unidade, de modo a reaproveita-los e com isso eliminar a compra dos anéis de aço ferramenta D2. Após o desenvolvimento realizamos o teste com os cilindros do laminador DEMAG da unidade de Barra Mansa e os anéis apresentaram performance muito semelhante ao dos que utilizamos atualmente. Com isso todos os cilindros no final de vida útil do laminador de Barra Mansa são nos enviados para passar pelo processo de usinagem serem reutilizados.

Metallurgical treatments of sulfide ores containing copper and zinc are characterized by significant losses of base metals, particularly formation of the flotation tailings and slags during the dressing and pyrometallurgical treatment respectively. In addition, SO2 gas obtained during roasting and converting may be as raw material for sulfuric acid production. A treatment of the industrial metallurgical wastes has been investigated. Two samples of old pyrite tailings from two concentrators that contained 0.36% and 0.26% of copper and 0.23% and 0.22% of zinc were leached with 10% sulfuric acid in the column. Recovery of copper reached 47% and 38% while recovery of zinc was 47% and 41% from the first and second samples, respectively. The pregnant leach solutions contained 15.9 g/l and 10.5 g/l of ferric iron. Ferric iron is the strong oxidant and ferric containing pregnant leach solutions can be used for ferric leaching of different types of raw materials containing sulfide minerals. Therefore, ferric leaching of copper converter slag flotation tailings contained 0.53% of copper and 2.77% of zinc with the first pregnant leach solution was conducted. The effect of various experimental parameters on the leaching dynamics of copper, zinc, and iron under batch conditions was investigated. Under the best conditions (temperature 70oC, pulp density 30%) the recovery of copper and zinc reached 80% and 42%, respectively. Thus, it has been shown that acid leaching of base metals from old pyrite flotation tailings with using of the pregnant leach solution for the ferric leaching of copper converter slag flotation tailings is a prospective technique for the complex treatment of mining and metallurgical wastes. Investigated processes could be introduced into the technological flow-sheet of typical pyrometallurgical plants.

The Alligator Ridge gold deposits are located in northwest White Pine County at the southwest end of Alligator Ridge. Alligator Ridge is on the west side of Long Valley in the range of hills that separates Long and Newark valleys. The nearest population center is Ely, about 113 km (70 miles) to the southeast. Access to the Alligator Ridge gold mine from Ely is via US Highway 50 and the Long Valley Ruby Marsh Road. The latitude and longitude is approximately 39° 45' north and 116° 30' west. The Alligator Ridge gold deposits occur in the lower 61 m (200 ft) of the Mississippian-Devonian Pilot Shale formation, a laminated calcareous carbonaceous siltstone. The gold deposits contain carbonaceous, oxide, and jasperoid type gold ore. For more details on the geologic features of the deposits, see Schull, Sutherland, and Ilchik (in press). The discovery story of Alligator Ridge began in the spring of 1976 when the areas mapped as jasperoid on the 1:250,000 scale geologic map of White Pine County (Hose and Blake, 1976) were examined and sampled. Seventeen samples, about 23 kg (50 lb), were collected from an area about 0.65 km2 (0.25 sq mile). Of these 17 samples 10 reported atomic absorption values of less than 0. 1 ppm Au and 7 reported values in the 0.1 to 1.0 ppm Au range. In June of 1976 20 lode claims were staked to claim the area of the rock chip sampling. The claims' end and side center lines were used as a grid for soil sampling. Sample stations were 91 m (300 ft) apart and sample lines were 229 m (750 ft) apart. The samples were sieved to - 180 µm (- 80 mesh). Out of 99 soil samples, seven samples reported Au values in the 0.1 to 1.0 ppm range. Of the seven auriferous samples, five were located over the jasperoid outcrops previously sampled; one over unmineralized Pilot Shale a few hundred m (ft) downslope from some Au-bearing jasperoid; and one from a 15 x 15 m (50 x 50 ft) talus outcrop area of hitherto unnoticed mineralized Pilot Shale. Subsequent sampling, mapping and drilling would show that this 15 X 15 m (50 x 50 ft) outcrop area was the top of the Vantage 1 ore body, about 1.27 Mt (1,400,000 st) of over 3 g/0.9 t (0.11 oz/st) Au. Late in the summer of 1976 about 30 more 1.4 to 2.2 kg (3 to 5 lb) rock chip samples were collected in the course of preliminary geologic mapping. This mapping and sampling showed that the gold-bearing jasperoids occurred at the contact between the Pilot Shale and the underlying Devils Gate Limestone. Rock chip samples of 0.1 ppm Au or greater were restricted to the jasperoids and the mineralized outcrop area of Pilot Shale located by the soil sample survey. Rock chip samples from the area of mineralized Pilot Shale were in the 3 to 5 ppm Au range. Activity resumed in the summer of 1977 with a more detailed soil geochemical survey. The jasperoid areas were defined as large geochemical gold anomalies of values greater than 0.1 ppm and locally greater than 0.2 ppm Au. Soil samples from the area of mineralized Pilot Shale outlined a greater than 0.1 ppm gold anomaly 61 x 152 m (200 x 500 ft) in size. Further geologic mapping showed that elsewhere, even where bleached and silicified, the Pilot Shale areas were geochemically very low in gold (less than 0.1 ppm Au). In November, 1977 twelve rotary percussion drill holes were drilled to test the gold-bearing jasperoid areas and the mineralized Pilot Shale area. Drilling of the jasperoid areas showed that the jasperoids gave way at shallow depths [less than 24 m (80 ft)] to unmineralized unaltered Devils Gate Limestone. Este trabalho visou em compreender as características microestruturais de uma liga de NiTi rica em Ni deformada a quente por meio do processo de forjamento rotativo, que foram submetidas ao processo com temperaturas distintas de pré-aquecimento (800 e 950 ºC) sem e com tratamento térmico de recozimento prévio (950 ºC por 2 horas) para homogeneização do lingote. Por meio dos aspectos da evolução microestrutural verificados com auxílio das técnicas de Microscopia Óptica, Microscopia Eletrônica de Varredura e difração de Raios X pôde-se observar que a adoção do recozimento prévio para homogeneização e incremento da temperatura de pré-aquecimento as etapas de forjamento rotativo a quente, conduziu a resultados mais satisfatório ao processamento termomecânico a ser aplicado nesta liga, a fim de seguir para as etapas de deformação a frio.
