"For gold leaching of oxide ores, the optimum cyanide : oxygen ratio is approximately 106 mg/L NaCN : 10 mg/L O2 (6.9:1 by mole). In sulphide ores, galvanic coupling of the gold with the electrically conductive sulphides significantly increases this ratio such that leaching may occur in a relatively low dissolved oxygen (DO) environment.RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONGold leaching in a carbon in pulp (CIP) and carbon in leach (CIL) circuit is driven by the supply of cyanide and oxygen, as described by Elsner’s equation (1):• 4Au + 8CN- + O2 + 2H2O ? 4Au(CN)2 - + 4OH- (1)Equation 1 suggests that the ideal molar cyanide : oxygen ratio should be 8:1, or 122.5 mg/L NaCN to 10 mg/L of DO. It is generally accepted however, that oxygen is not completely reduced to hydroxide at the gold surface, and that equation (2) better represents the gold leaching reaction (Marsden and House, 1992):• 4Au + 8CN- + 2O2 + H2O ? 4Au(CN)2 - + 2OH- + H2O2 (2)Additionally, since gold leaching is limited by either the diffusion of cyanide or oxygen to the gold surface (Habashi, 1993), then the relative diffusion rates of cyanide and oxygen must also be taken into account. Marsden and House (1992) suggest that the ideal molar cyanide : oxygen ratio is 6:1, while a more recent investigation using laboratory and plant observations (Heath and Rumball, 1998) suggested a molar ratio of 6.9:1.In practice, although a cyanide : oxygen mole ratio of 6.9:1 applies to some circuits, there are many instances when this is not the case.In sulphide ores, galvanic coupling of the gold with the electrically conductive sulphides significantly increases this ratio. Galvanically connected sulphides, and possibly carbon, provide a large surface area for oxygen reduction. As the cathode surface area increases, the oxygen concentration required to sustain the same rate of gold oxidation decreases proportionately.Galvanically connected particles may be composite particles, however they may simply be liberated sulphides in the same suspension as the gold. Particle collisions within a slurry are sufficient to provide momentary galvanic connection (Greet, 1995)."

High Pressure Grinding Roll (HPGR) plays a major role in increasing specific surface area of iron ore concentrate for producing pellet feed. HPGR grinding mechanism implies that material be compressed between the two rolls, therefore layer of material must be able to resist required pressure for achieving suitable grinding conditions. In this study for determining a simple relationship between material pressure resistance ability and HPGR main design parameters, piston press tests were performed on different iron ore concentrate samples along with HPGR Blaine increasing tests. Piston press tests results showed that by decreasing moisture content, material pressure resistance increased and in constant moisture content this parameter will change based on material specifications. HPGR Blaine increasing tests results showed that by decreasing moisture content, HPGR specific throughput and working gap increased and in constant moisture content this parameter will change based on material specifications. For all of the studied samples at worst condition, we got the results including: HPGR delta gap equal to zero, specific throughput lower than 200 ts/hm3.According to the tests results, HPGR Applicability Index (HAI) can be introduced at four different class types from 1 (weak) to 4 (excellent). This index determines achievable specific throughput and possibility of using HPGR according to material specifications, i.e. for HAI 1-4 the pressure resistance is <90, 90 to<125, 125 to <150 and = 150 bar, respectively. Similarly for HAI 1-4 specific throughput is <200, =200, =220 and =250, respectively. So based on design moisture content, if concentrate HAI is 3 or 4, HPGR is a correct choice. For HAI 2, HPGR can also be used. But for a material with HAI equal to 1, HPGR is not a good solution. As a result in order to apply HPGR for HAI 1, material condition such as moisture or slime content should be decreased.

The optimized crusher kinematics is one of the key factors for high performance. To fine tune the crusher kinematics and crushing chambers one needs to know how different parameters affect. The main cone crusher parameters are head angle and diameter, gyration point, shaft speed, eccentricity, stroke length, and inclination and design of crushing cavity. Selecting the correct combination of these parameters is a multi task optimization challenge. In practical life there are more factors to achieve satisfactory performance, like crushing chamber wear and profile management keeping the performance constant over the whole wear life, control of crusher frame loads, ability to handle disturbances in feed material etc. The extensive research work has lead to a solution that enables the highest possible material density in the crushing chamber. This design provides maximum reduction of processed material and thus increased share of 0/10 mm product. High density in the cavity offers further benefits, such as high throughput capacity, less material contact with wear parts and even load on crusher frame and bearings. The challenge that an equipment supplier involved with high density crushing is how to design a robust cone crusher, which is able to cope with the high crushing forces due to high resistance from the crushed material against the gyration movement. Metso has launched a new series of cone crushers HP3, HP4 and HP5 that are all able to work in high density crushing applications The test results and evidence from over 300 installations clearly prove the effectiveness and importance of high density crushing. Theoretical study of the behavior of grinding medium presented by TBP (tetraballpebs) was conducted by computer modeling of the position of grinding medium at different speeds and different drum fill factor. For the modeling were used known equations of motion derived for the ball load. Algorithm was created by SolidWorks software, allowing determination of center of gravity of the load in the mill and energy for grinding. These results were compared with similar results obtained by ball grinding medium. The capabilities of both grinding media are demonstrated by graphics under the following conditions: 1.Equal dimensions of the experimental model of the mill; 2.Equal mass of the grinding loads; 3.Comparison of grinding bodies with the same number, mass and density. Separation of hematite and iron-containing silicate gangue - aegirine by Flotation using fatty acid collector and (NH4)2SiF6 depressant was investigated in this paper. The flotation tests with single minerals show Ammonium hexafluorosilicate (AHFS) is a selective depressant for aegirine in hematite flotation in weakly acidic medium, which can strongly reduce the flotation recovery of aegirine in the pH range of 4~5 while has no evident effect on the flotation of hematite. The results of flotation tests with actual ores show the separation of hematite from aegirine gangue by forth flotation was possible, and good selectivity was achieved. Chemisorptions were observed on aegirine mineral surface treated by AHFS solution by using SEM and IR spectrum measurements. On the basis of coordination chemistry, a comprehensive mechanism, which reasonably explains the selective depression of AHFS for iron-containing silicate, is also proposed.

"Lamps and lighting products are the most commonly used electrical products around the globe. With the improvement in lamp technologies, lighting products have grown complex and hence require an improved recycling process. The LED lamps consist of various valuable metals such as iron, copper, aluminum, chromium, silver, and gold, as well as non-metals such as glass, plastics, and fibers. In addition, there are also traces of hazardous substances such as lead, arsenic, and mercury. A major step in the recovery process is size reduction, and researchers have suggested that up to 40% of the total valuable material is lost during the shredding and grinding processes. SELFRAG is a high voltage selective fragmentation comminution technology that uses high voltage pulses in a water medium to efficiently separate the metals at a coarser size without generating many fine particles. It has been proposed that during the fragmentation process of electronic waste (e-waste), the metals can be separated without fine grinding. This research considers the applicability of high voltage pulse fragmentation for LED lamps. Eight different types of LED lamps were processed through the SELFRAG unit at varying pulses to study metal liberation. The product obtained was characterized for metal liberation, metal grades, and liberation analysis. The specific energy consumption for this size reduction process was also monitored. INTRODUCTION Lamps and bulbs are the most commonly used electrical products in homes, offices, industrial operations, and streets. According to Energy Star research (2006), an average US household has more than 40 sockets for light bulbs and consumes approximately 2100kWh every year for lighting. The development in lamp technology has pushed the boundary for newer products. The LED lamps have been taking over the market from the incandescent bulbs and compact fluorescent lamps (CFL). According to the US Department of Energy (2012) and myLEDlight.com (2007), LED lamps have several benefits over other lamps. LEDs produce light hemi-spherically, which increases their efficiency in directional light emission. It has higher breakage resistance from vibration or transportation. LED lamps use up to 90% less power than incandescent bulbs thus making them highly energy efficient; They have a longer lifespan, lasting 10 times longer than a CFL and 133 times longer than the traditional incandescent bulb. Because of all the benefits, Smallwood (2014) suggested that the market of LED lamps will grow to $12.2 billion by 2018."

The basic objectives of current EU waste policy are to prevent waste and promote re-use, recycling and recovery to reduce negative environmental impact (2008/98/EC). In this paper, we focus on drivers and barriers for sustainable development by decreasing amount of waste and increasing material efficiency. Main target is to understand what are the most efficient drivers for environmental friendly decision making for reasonable consumption and use of raw materials. Environmental control instruments usually mean those actions the regulatory authority uses to control and limit environmentally harmful behavior of companies. A major change in the environmental control system took place in the 1980s with the focus moving from specific environmental issues to the environment as a whole. The environmental control system i.e. the legal (administrative), economic and informative instruments focuses on prevention. Before and still, the legislation is one of the main drivers in improving material efficiency. In this paper, we focus on drivers and barriers for effective industrial material use, and mainly on drivers. The objective of this study is to analyze how the drivers are working and are there any possibilities to influence on those. Our aim is also to introduce few examples of the existing supply chains and the drivers for better environmental performance and material efficiency. These examples are also compared with ideal reference scenarios. Our main research question in this article is: ?Are the financial issues the most important driver for environmental friendly strategic decisions?? In addition, retell the story from another perspective: ?The most important barrier for environmental friendly innovations seem to be the investment cost, the high risk involved in committing capital to unproven technology.? Other drivers, like the corporate social responsibility, stakeholder pressure, and general public pressure, will also affect the final decision. "Triboelectric separation of ilmenite ore based on the tribocharge differences between ilmenite and gangue minerals was conducted in this study. Triboelectric characteristics of ilmenite and its associated minerals were studied using polyvinyl chloride (PVC), pentatricopeptide repeats (PPR), copper, polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), stainless steel (SS), teflon and quartz glass (QG) tribochargers in lab triboelectric unit. Results demonstrated that the ilmenite particles tribocharged positively while gangue minerals tribocharged negatively using PVC as tribocharger. The particle size also has a significant effect on tribocharge, and the -0.125+0.074 mm is the optimal size fraction of triboelectric separation. Charge-mass ratios of minerals increase with the increases of tribocharging length, but the increasing rate gradually reduce. At 1.5 m tribocharging length, charge-mass ratios of ilmenite, quartz, feldspar and mica are up to 6.07 nC/g, -6.05 nC/g, -4.30 nC/g and -4.56 nC/g, respectively. Based on the triboelectric characteristics of each mineral, triboelectric separation of ilmenite was conducted, and the grade of ilmenite ore increased from 15.47% to 28.40%. INTRODUCTION As a transition metal titanium plays an irreplaceable role in medical, aerospace and materials due to its light weight, high strength and corrosion resistance. Pure titanium dioxide is an excellent white pigment and is widely applied in industries of paint and textile. Ilmenite is the main raw material for titanium industry. For the beneficiation of ilmenite, series methods have been proposed, such as the application of dry magnetic and wet gravity separations to separate the ilmenite from the zircon and rutile. Electrostatic separation is extensively used in the beneficiation of heavy mineral sands for the recovery of rutile, zircon and ilmenite while flotation is used to separate fine ilmenite (Mehdilo et al., 2014; Fan et al., 2014). Compared with flotation and gravity separation, electrostatic separation does not consume water, and native properties of materials will not be changed and energy consumption will be reduced (Wang et al., 2014). Thus, the wide application of electrostatic separation and other dry separation methods is a trend in separation and purification industry, especially in water-scarce areas."

"IT enabled platforms are the key to provide an integrated view of the business activity or an enterprise as a whole. Attempts to integrate all functions in an enterprise such as mine-to-market initiatives, wherever and to whatever extent implemented, have provided significant benefits to the industry. The transformative potential of IT enabled integration platforms is illustrated in this communication from our own work in this field. TCS PREMAP (Platform for the Realization of Materials and Products) is a knowledge-driven engineering design and development platform which leverages modeling and simulation and artificial intelligence into the engineering design process. We illustrate the customization of this generic platform for the design and optimization of mineral processing plants in an integrated manner. TCS PEACOCK (Process and Equipment Analytics for Optimization and Control) has been developed to enable automation of data analytics in the operating plants. We illustrate its utility and power in improving the plant performance with the help of case studies from our work on pelletization of iron ores and optimization of flotation plants. INTRODUCTION We are living in an exciting digital era. With the advent of cloud computing and social media on the one hand and rapid advances being made in several research areas of interest to us in the minerals and metals industry such as artificial intelligence (AI) & machine learning, robotics, unmanned vehicles including drones, big data analytics, 3D printing, sensor technologies, renewable energies and internet of things (IoT), many disruptive transformations in our industry are on the horizon. "The complexity of the flotation process has made the identification of an appropriate model structure, for use in the prediction of flotation circuit performance, far from obvious. Work performed under the auspices of the AMIRA P9 flotation program has indicated that the metallurgical performance achieved from a flotation cell arises from the interaction of two essentially independent property classes, namely the cell operating conditions and the properties of the cell feed stream. These observations have led to the development of a model structure that associates a constant set of flotation parameters to the streams of the circuit, which are transformed into a flotation response depending on the operating conditions within the flotation cell.A variety of alternative model structures exist within the literature which do not make this distinction between cell and stream flotation properties, and many of these models are in widespread use for flotation optimisation and design studies, both in industry and academia.In this paper, data collected from an industrial flotation circuit is used to derive the parameters associated with two different types of flotation models. Simulations performed using these models demonstrate the need to differentiate between cell and feed properties. A model that does not differentiate between these two properties fails to successfully predict the metallurgical performance of a flotation circuit after a disturbance."

"With flotation cells scale-up, the performance of flotation cells is increasingly variated for short-coming and dead zones existing. The residence time distribution which shows the movement of tracers can assess the unexpected flows such as short circuit and dead zone in a flotation cell. In this paper, the residence time distribution of pilot flotation cell is investigated with CFD simulation. Based on the theoretical model, the short-coming probability and dead zone probability are quantitative. The ideal average residence time is similar with the actual average residence time. The mixing effect of the flotation cell approaches the ideal continuous stirred tank reactor. The operating parameters such as speed and feed velocity have complicated influence on residence time distribution. The research would be helpful to understanding flow in flotation cell and improving performances of flotation cell.INTRODUCTION Froth flotation is a method which purifies minerals according to difference of physical and chemical surface characters of different mineral particles (Shen, Z., Chen J, 2012). Flotation cell is a key equipment for froth flotation method. The flotation cell performances have great influences on flotation index.It is difficult to evaluate flotation cell how to improve flotation procedure to complexity. The main flotation cell performances are aeration volume, air dispersion, solid suspension and residence time distribution, etc (Shen, Z., Lu, S., 2008). Residence time distribution is an important fluid hydrodynamics which could reveal the flow of pulp, mixing of particles and air bubbles. In the flotation cell, the ideal average residence time of pulp could obtain easily. But the fluid differential units would be different flow paths. The residence time of the fluid differential units is variation and would be longer or less than the average residence time. The residence time distribution would reveal the mixing effect and predict the not ideal flow in the flotation cell such as shorting cutting, dead zone, etc. As we know, the shorting cutting and dead zone would be decreased the real flotation time and it is disadvantage to better flotation effect, especially for large flotation cell. It is impossible to eliminate the not ideal flow totally. It is very important to reveal and decrease the shorting cutting and dead zone probability in the flotation cell."

"Dalli mines of Bhilai Steel Plant, India is fully mechanized iron ore mine having wet processing system. It has a capacity to treat 5 Mt of ROM. In processing circuit of Dalli mines, scrubbing, wet screening and classification operation is being carried out. Average slime generation for the last five years is about 14% of ROM. As the mining has reached to the lower benches, fines generation is more. As a result, very fine and heavy particles, which settle fast, are being discarded with the slime to tailing pond. These heavy and faster settling particles were causing jamming in the thickeners.Laboratory investigations were carried out at Research and Development Centre for Iron and Steel (RDCIS) to suggest a suitable scheme to recover high quality fines so that the availability of thickener can improve. The slime samples were first treated in a floatex density separator. The concentrate obtained from the floatex density separator was treated in hydrocyclone. Laboratory investigations indicated that the slime with 49% Fe, 12.7% silica and 10.7% alumina can be upgraded to 62.1% Fe, 3.3% silica and 2% alumina with 36% material recovery. Based on the laboratory studies ,a system was installed at Dalli minesThe general arrangement of the system is shown in Fig. below."

The large-scale vibrating screen has been applied widely in coal industry and other industrial areas as a kind of important device. As vibration mechanical device, it works very hardly and works in very bad environment so that the structure of screen is damaged easily. Therefore, it is very important that how to detect the fault of structure as early as possible to make the repair schedule reasonably and economically and to avoid the body hurt and device damage. As a kind of important structure of vibrating screen, the lower crossbeam is the main carrying structure and it is easily damaged, so it is regarded as a researched object in this thesis and it is tested under the load in the laboratory. Based on the test, acoustic emission wave signals can be got-ten by modern acoustic emission testing technique. Then, the ?wavelet packet - energy? from the characteristics of acquiring signals is used as neural network input vector. In the BP network structure design, the design of a hidden layer with variable number of BP network is established. Based on the error by contrast, the best nerve number can be identified in the hidden layer. Through integrated analysis, using Levenberg-Marquard BP study algorithm, network-training errors are relatively small, the acoustic emission signal is used in BP neural network as a pattern of recognition. In Matlab6.5, neural network model identification is created and taking advantage of nonlinearity and the ability of learning and memory of Neural Network, this model is fixed by training structure of network with training samples. The work presented shows that acoustical emission signal processing and research on early fatigue fault diagnosis based on the wavelet and the neural network is viable.

Reaction kinetics of serpentine and hydrochloric acid is theoretical basis for optimizing reaction process conditions of serpentine and hydrochloric acid. Kinetics of serpentine and hydrochloric acid was studied in this paper. The results indicated that apparent reaction order to hydrochloric acid was two and reaction kinetic equation could be expressed as: 2HClHCl,ddtckct-=·. The diffusion rates of hydrogen ions in liquid film on surface of serpentine particle and in amorphous silica layer generated in the reaction and chemical reaction velocity during the reaction had important effects on to-tal reaction velocity. And chemical reaction velocity had the most significant influence. The relation of conversion rate of magnesia xMgO with reaction time could be expressed as: 1(1)xkt--=·.

A cyclonic-static micro bubble flotation column (FCSMC) is an effective separation device for fine grain treatment. The separation of fine ilmenite by FCSMC was explored in this work. The influence of reagents dosage (regulator, collector and auxiliary collector), pulp density, circulation pressure and aeration quantity on TiO2grade and recovery wasinvestigated.The optimal conditions of a rougher are follows: pulp density 45%, pH 5.0, MOH collector dosage 2800 g/t, diesel oil dosage 700 g/t, circulationpressure 0.19 MPa, aeration quantity 0.8 m3/(m2•min). The optimal conditions of a cleaner are follows: pH 4.0, circulation pressures 0.16 MPa, and aeration quantity 0.5 m3/(m2•min).A pilot plant continuous test with a rougher-cleaner by FCSMC for 72 hours was proceeded under the optimum conditions. Compared with industrial flotation machines, the concentrate grade of FCSMC is 48.11% with an improvement of 1.08 percentagepoints, while the recovery is 82.36% with 13.64 percentagepoints increment. Moreover, the flowsheet is simplified from six parts (a rougher-two scavenger-three cleaner) in flotation machines to two parts (a rougher-cleaner) in FCSMC. Proofs were also provided by the analysis of the by-size grade and recovery of concentrate.Results show the FCSMC is an effective separation device to recover -74 µm size fraction.

Electrokinetic/permeable reactive barrier system is a promising in situ soil and ground water remediation technique to reduce toxic NO3- into less toxic NH4+. Using granular zero-valent iron (Fe0) as a reductant, the first objective of this study was to investigate the influence of the solid-liquid ratio and aqueouspHon NO3- reduction. The results obtained from a series of batch experiments showed that NO3- reduction was enhanced by either increasing solid-liquid ratio or decreasing aqueous pH. Based on insights obtained from batch experiments, the second objective of this study was set to design the remediation conditions of the electrokinetic/Fe0permeable reactive barrier system to maximize the NO3- reduction efficiency. Experimental results showed that the effectiveness of the system strongly depended on the Fe0 percentage in the reactive barrier, the pH in the anode reservoir, and the applied voltage, which were consistent with the results obtained from batch experiments. Under optimized treatment conditions, nearly 100 % NO3-was reduced into NH4+ in the permeable reactive barrier and collected in the cathode reservoir. Insights obtained from this study provided fundamental information on roles each of remediation design parameters plays, and will be useful to optimize the remediation conditions. This concept focuses on minimum/ judicious use of natural resources, thereby preserving the resources for future generation while meeting the bare minimum requirement of the present generation. For an emerging economy like India, Mining and Mineral based industries form the back bone of our economic development. Thus, sustainability of mining and mineral processing industry has a far reaching impact on sustainable economic development of our nation. While at a macro-economic level, we have to strike a balance between economic development vis-à-vis socio-economic & environmental impacts, Industries have to ensure judicious and frugal use of natural resources by making use of energy efficient plants & machineries and adopting befitting technology for reduction & recycling of waste. In the context of the above, it would be interesting to look into the sustainability measures taken up by National Aluminium company (Nalco) at its Crushing & conveying plant at Panchpatmali Bauxite Mine, which is incidentally Asia?s largest Bauxite Mine. In the backdrop of the above stated facts, in this paper the authors make an attempt to bring out the sustainability issues in areas of energy conservation, environmental impact/pollution vis-a-vis mitigation measures adopted in crusher & conveyor plant of Panchpatmali Bauxite Mine & CSR / peripheral developmental activities undertaken by Nalco to mitigate the socio- economic impacts. "With depletion of global ore deposits, there has been an increasing industry trend towards mining of lower average grade deposits in order to meet global demand, resulting in increased processing cost, energy usage and water usage. Consequently the industry is seeking pre-concentration technologies to reduce costs, increase production in existing operations and potentially enable the economic mining of previously uneconomical deposits. This pre-concentration can also advantage downstream processing and metal recovery. CSIRO has developed a large scale magnetic resonance based technology for the rapid quantitative detection of selected copper, iron and arsenic minerals in bulk ore. The technology is suited to measurement on large primary conveyors for enabling “pod” based sorting. The approach used in high tonnage sorting is to not sense and divert individual rocks, but to instead measure groups of rocks (“pods”) carried continuously on a single primary conveyor that can be diverted by conventional mechanical means. Bulk ore sorting operates by removing barren ore pods from a stream of crushed ore based on a bulk sensor measurement at a pod resolution of ~1 – 10 tonnes. The sorting process is based on the intrinsic variability of grade during the mining process that often occurs at the few tonne scale, and for instance, is common in many porphyry copper deposits. The MR technology has been proven in the laboratory for a wide range of copper, arsenic and iron minerals. A full scale prototype sensing system has been demonstrated in a trial at an Australian copper mine. Implementation trials of commercial MR based bulk sorting systems are progressing during 2018.INTRODUCTION An increasing trend in the mining industry is the exploitation of larger lower-grade deposits to meet global demand. Low-grade deposits involve increased processing cost, energy and water usage and increased tailings. There is therefore growing interest in technologies that enable more efficient extraction of low grade deposits. Water intensity of mining activities in a context of water scarcity, and the environmental and health implications of mine tailings are existing challenges, which are only made worse by the progression to lower grade orebodies. There is therefore also an interest in safer, cleaner and less wasteful extraction and production to ensure community well-being and environmental resilience."
