"The floatabiliby of chelate CF-collector for zinc and lead oxide minerals was described. It found that CF-collector possesses a strong collection power for zinc and lead oxide minerals as well as excellent selectivity for the gangue minerals. A new technology of zinc and lead oxide flotation with CF reagent as a collector, lead nitrite as a activator and water glass as modifier was presented. The mechanism of interaction between reagents and minerals was discussed by means of adsorption, zeta potential, nephelometric titration, XPS and infrared spectra was investigated.CF-collector, newly developed by Beijing General Research Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (BGRIMM), is a kind of chelate collector for the flotation of oxide minerals. CF-collector mainly consists of N-nitroso-N-phenylhydroxylamine ammonium salt. The CF-collector was used for the selective flotation of scheelite in the Chinese plants.In this paper, the effects of the dosages of activator Pb(NO3)2 and depressants (sodium hexametaphosphate, polyphosphate, water glass and salified water glass) on the floatabilities of several minerals (cerussite, smithsonite, calcite, dolomite, limonite and quartz) as well as their mixtures were investigated in the presence of the CF-collector. The results show that the CF-collector is the excellent collector for selective flotation of cerussite and smithsonite. Pb(NO3)2 can selectively activate the oxides of lead and zinc resulting in a decrease of the CF-collector dosage. The sodium hexametaphosphate plus the salified water glass are the effective depressants for gangue minerals. Based on the above facts, the “CF process”, namely, used CF reagent as a collector, Pb (NO3) 2 as a activator, and sodium hexametaphosphate plus salified water glass as depressant, has been used for the flotation separation of the lead oxide mixtures or zinc oxide mixtures without disliking and heating. For the feed lead assaying 19.07%, the lead concentrate assaying 49.81% Pb at the recovery 80.69% was obtained after one step flotation. For the feed zinc assaying 12.85%, a zinc concentrate of assaying 29.56% Zn at recovery 83.87% was obtained."

"Coal-fired electrical power generation plants produce 56% of all the electricity in the U. S., burning approximately 860 million tons of coal annually. This results in production of 58 million tons of fly ash; 19 million tons of bottom ash and boiler slag, and 23 million tons of desulfurization sludges. These are a considerable disposal problem, and it would therefore be very valuable to be able to sell these residues and byproducts as useful materials, rather than paying to dispose of them in landfills. However, utilization rates are currently very low, below 32% even for the most thoroughly commercialized combustion byproduct (fly-ash). This poor utilization rate is a result of the high impurity content of combustion byproducts, which make them unsuitable for existing markets. The experiments described in this paper were therefore carried out to study the application of mineral processing techniques to upgrading combustion byproducts.Experiments were conducted to upgrade and purify low-grade combustion products to produce highgrade, readily saleable materials. A process was developed for removing unburned carbon from coal fly-ash by froth flotation, using reagents originally developed for flotation of oxidized coals. This technique could reduce the carbon content of fly-ashes containing up to 11.1% carbon to less than 2%. The froth product was sufficiently carbon-rich that the recovered carbon has value as fuel, or as low-grade activated charcoal.Fly ash was also examined as a binder for producing iron ore pellets, primarily as a substitute for bentonite. It was found that Class F fly ash in combination with an activator (calcium hydroxide) was an effective pellet binder at dosages comparable to the currently-used dosages of bentonite clay. While the flyash worked very well alone, tests in combination with bentonite showed that fly-ash/bentonite mixtures had significantly worse binding performance than either pure bentonite or pure fly-ash-based binder. This was determined to be due to the fact that bentonite and fly ash have profoundly different binding mechanisms, with fly-ash undergoing a pozzolanic chemical reaction while bentonite binds through a physical attachment process."

We present a novel on line inductive sensor for the determination of the quality of the concentrates of iron ores. This device is coupled with a cheap USB Data Acquisition System that makes it versatile enough to simultaneously control up to seven fluxes at a very low cost (< $300 US dollars), and achieves a resolution better than 0.5 % on the determination of the magnetic iron content in the concentrate. A RLC circuit with its inductive element placed surrounding a sample of pure magnetite concentrate is tuned at its resonance frequency, by means of adjusting, the feeding voltage of a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) and several samples with mixtures of different contents of silica and magnetite are placed in order to get a calibration curve. After some signal conditioning, a National Instruments USB-DAQ NI-6008, acquires the amplitude of the signal via USB port on a PC using a Lab-View program designed for such purpose, in which the calibration curve is used for on-screen data presentation directly in percent of magnetite content. The implementation of this device for control purposes on line directly placed on the concentrators would allow better efficiency of the process and higher quality of the final concentrate by con-trolling; the rotation speed, the rising or dilution water fluxes or bypasses towards milling recirculation cycles.

"A dynamic, interactive map has been developed of the life cycle of a number of metals, from mining through to minerals processing, metal production, product manufacturing, recovery and waste management. Whilst the existing metal process network and waste management infrastructure provide substantial scope for (product) design, these also limit change because of the strong path dependency of industry and infrastructure development. The metal production network is complex, as it consists of an interconnected and integrated system that incorporates multiple production routes for a spectrum of metals. More often than not, the production or recovery of a single metal is related to or dependent on the generation or recovery of another. The effects of these other metals is of great importance. In order to realize the potential economic importance of impurities, research and development have integrated the processes of copper production with those of lead and zinc, and connected the processes to those of among others silver, bismuth, tin and platinum group metals (PGMs), for example. The recovery of these elements from the interconnected circuits is extremely complex, as most of the elements must be circulated between two or more circuits before they are concentrated enough to make their extraction possible, and their recovery as a compound profitable.From such a system’s perspective, it can easily be seen that a complication for solid waste management has arisen through the development of products (consumer goods) that bring together metals that are not linked in natural resources. As a consequence, many of these materials are not compatible with any process in the metals production network that was developed for the processing of primary, natural resources, optimized for the processing not only of the primary metal but also for all mineralogically associated minor valuable and harmful elements. The formation of large or complex residue streams or undesired harmful emissions then inhibits processing and recovery of said products at their end-of-life. Another complication is that any change to the system (in metal production, SWM or product design) affects the system configuration. Due to the changing demands for metals as a result from the changing products made from the metals for example, the relationships between the processes in the interconnected metal production systems change. This affects both the demand for old scrap (required amount and grade) from waste management, and the environmental profile of the metals. Preferably, therefore, product designers, waste processors and metal producers must cooperate to realize optimal metal recovery in processing discarded consumer products."

"The development of the SAG Power Index (SPI) Test in Canada has created a new and accurate way to measure ore hardness in a SAG environment. Coupled with the standard Bond Ball Mill Work Index Test it is now possible to determine from these two relatively inexpensive laboratory tests, the amount of energy required to grind an ore from the primary crushed size to the desired liberation size. By testing multiple samples to discover where the hard and soft ore zones are located, the representative hardness distribution for the ore body can be determined and grinding equipment selected that is capable to meet production targets for all mining areas of the deposit.Previously, it was deemed prudent to select up to 50 t samples of ore for Semi Autogenous Grinding (SAG) pilot plant tests and a second 5 t sample for metallurgical pilot plant work. The methods outlined in this paper show how the 50 t sample is no longer required for SAG design because it is better to measure the representative hardness distribution of the ore body than the hardness of a “chosen” representative sample. This is demonstrated to be true by the fact that the lower horizons of an ore zone cannot initially be accessed to recover 150mm pieces, and the bulk samples taken, rarely represent the desired design hardness of the ore. Median hardness will not yield a good result in most cases and a clear understanding of the location and extent of the hardest zones is imperative to achieve a truly successful grinding circuit design.This paper discusses two plants (Kubaka and Agnico Eagle) that have been designed using SPI and Bond with no pilot plant test backup. Both have been very successful in that they can grind design tonnage on the hardest ores in the mine. This guarantees that the mine’s profitability is protected in any mining sequence. It also allows the extra power to be converted to higher throughput on softer ores if additional cash flow is needed. The advantages from the owner’s point of view are dramatic. This procedure will be attractive as well when considering the costs for test work, and the samples for testing. Existing diamond drill core is normally used and this allows the inclusion of data from the deepest regions of the mine. In addition, it is also clear that the decision to use a crusher can now be made at the design stage of a project based on measured parameters and the estimated capital costs of alternative designs."

"From a metallurgical point of view, acid leaching of oxide zone copper ore is considered in the first place in terms of ore grade, whole rock mineralogy, rock granulometry, crushed aggregate size distribution, porosity, permeability and corresponding fluid flow characteristics. Despite exhaustive physicochemical and general mineralogical characterization, drops in copper recovery occur and are often attributed to and “unquantified mineralogical misbehaviour” of the gangue phases. This study establishes an experimental link to monitor and quantify the chemical interaction of chrysocolla, malachite and atacamite with reactive gangue phases.Laboratory-scale sulphuric acid (15%) leaching in small columns is carried out using a synthetic rock composed of 57% quartz, 1% ore phase, and 42% reactive gangue. Gangue phases were selected to represent mineralogy found in argillic, advanced argillic, and propylitic alteration zones. Exotic copper ores of Codelco Norte (in particular Mina Sur) served as model for the modal distribution of mineral phases. Natural reactive gangue phases (<200 Tyler mesh) were chosen as pure as possible: Saz-1 and Swy-1 montmorillonites, KGa-1B and KGa-2 kaolinites (all Clay Mineral Society, USA, Source Clays) Nau-2 nontronite, Imt-1 illite (both Clay Mineral Society Special Clays) and Chilean mordenite, laumontite and bentonite. Ore phases are: mineraloid chrysocolla from Radomiro Tomic (Codelco Norte), reagent grade malachite and a purpose synthesized atacamite-paratacamite mixture. Complete chemical, physicochemical and mineralogical characterizations were carried out for ore and gangue phases.The following observations hold for samples with and without mineralization: Smectite-rich gangue increased up to 75% in volume. Once wet, air-filled vesicles formed due to the rapid sealing effect of overlying smectite in the column. No volume change occurred for illite, mordenite and kaolinite gangues. For kaolinite mixtures acid puddles formed on top of the column during initial leaching due to the delamination and barrier formation of this phyllosilicate. Fluid recovery was <60% for expandable phases and reached up to 80% for non-expandable mixtures. These observations confirm the very low extractions obtained in ore with a combined smectite – kaolinite gangue for Mina Sur. The most important mineralogical changes observed in the solid residues are: reduction of basal smectite phase reflections (XRD), and slight loss of illite intensities. This is also reflected in the major element composition of the residues, which demonstrate a loss of Mg, Mn, Ca, Na, K followed by Fe, Al and Si; with their proportions depending on the starting materials. Furthermore, alunogen and meta-alunogen formed, with related phases coquimbite (illite) and godichite (nontronite) also depending on gangue mineral chemistry. For laumontite samples, meta-alunogen and alunogen precipitated from the leachate."

Coal beneficiation with optical sorting has not yet been studied in detail. Optical separation of coal from gangue particles as a dry method can be used as an alternative to the other enrichment methods. Developments in optical and pneumatic technology put the optical sorting one step forward by means of applicability of the mechanical sorting to the mineral industry. Because of the inefficient separation performance, dry separation of coal is very limited in industrial applications. Therefore, optical sorting depending on color differences between two minerals can be introduced to coal beneficiation systems. In this study, coal samples obtained from Konya-Ilgin region (Central Anatolia-Turkey) were separated by optical sorter and the results were evaluated. The conventional floatability tests for Ilgin coal are conducted by collecting most of the feed material at 1.3-1.4 g/cm3 density range. Separation of Ilgin coals with heavy medium methods will not be possible because of poor density difference between coal and its impurities. There are important color differences among the floated particles at 1.3-1.4 g/cm3 density range. Therefore, Ilgin coal is subjected to optical sorting in a pilot scale optical sorter. Different size fractions were fed to the optical sorter and then rejected and accepted particles by equipment were analyzed. Ash content of the accepted particles was reduced to 25-35 % and ash in tail increases up to 55-60 % after sorting. Although most of the material floated at low densities, optical sorter separated the feed into two different quality products. This study has the potential to clarify applicability of optical sorting even to non-floatable coals and to provide an important contribution to both industrial applications and literature.

"Revealed and analyzed in the study are the ways of significant perfection of specific characteristics of the equipment, such as use of high-frequency voltage transformation to create a charger; use of pulse transformers, with core made of materials with high magnetic permeability, in pulse generating circuits; as well as use of special ways to produce voltage pulses with a short front. The experiments have proved the possibility to adapt these technological solutions for electric-pulse installations, and suggested on this base is a strategy of further development and application of electric-pulse technologies. The different applications joint work schemes of voltage sources with two levels voltage and energy in electric pulse technologies are investigated. The possibility of increasing energy efficiency of destruction is shown."

"The Luiswishi deposit belongs to the Cu-Co deposits of the Southern Group of the Katangian Copper Belt and is operated by a joint venture between EGMF (Entreprises Générales Malta Forrest) and Gecamines (Générale des Carrières et des Mines). The Cu-Co ore is beneficiated by the sulphidization process at the NCK (New Concentrator of Kipushi) at Kipushi.Sulphidization followed by flotation with sulphydryl collectors is a common practice for the treatment of oxidized base metals ores. This process is complex and its application at the industrial scale is quite sensitive. In Central Africa it is also a cost intensive treatment as the sulphidizing agent has to be imported. In order to improve the metallurgical performances and to optimise the economics of the process, a laboratory research program was carried out by the Laboratory of Metallurgy and Mineral Processing (MTM) of the University of Liège in close collaboration with EGMF and Gecamines. This program included the study of various flotation reagents as dispersing, depressing and activating agents.This paper presents the results obtained with the use of ammonium sulphate as activator of the sulphidized xanthate flotation. Although ammonium sulphate has been mentioned in the literature as a promoting agent of the sulphidized xanthate flotation of malachite, its effects on the flotation of cobalt oxides was not known.The testworks were carried out on various oxidized siliceous ore types from the Luiswishi deposit. A 1.7 l Agitair laboratory flotation cell was used. NaHS and potassium amylxanthate were respectively choosen as sulphidizer and collector. A mixture of gasoil and tall oil (90/10) was used as secondary collector. A multistage sulphidization was realised. Values of pH were followed during the different tests and an ion selective electrode Ag/Ag2S was used to control the Es potentiel evolution during the stepwise addition of the sulphidizer."

In such devastating situation, the concept of Sustainability emerges out as a great savior. This concept focuses on minimum/ judicious use of natural resources, thereby preserving the resources for future generation while meeting the bare minimum requirement of the present generation. For an emerging economy like India, Mining and Mineral based industries form the back bone of our economic development. Thus, sustainability of mining and mineral processing industry has a far reaching impact on sustainable economic development of our nation. While at a macro-economic level, we have to strike a balance between economic development vis-à-vis socio-economic & environmental impacts, Industries have to ensure judicious and frugal use of natural resources by making use of energy efficient plants & machineries and adopting befitting technology for reduction & recycling of waste. In the context of the above, it would be interesting to look into the sustainability measures taken up by National Aluminium company (Nalco) at its Crushing & conveying plant at Panchpatmali Bauxite Mine, which is incidentally Asia?s largest Bauxite Mine. In the backdrop of the above stated facts, in this paper the authors make an attempt to bring out the sustainability issues in areas of energy conservation, environmental impact/pollution vis-a-vis mitigation measures adopted in crusher & conveyor plant of Panchpatmali Bauxite Mine & CSR / peripheral developmental activities undertaken by Nalco to mitigate the socio- economic impacts. "The complexity of the flotation process has made the identification of an appropriate model structure for the predictive simulation of flotation circuits far from obvious. Work performed under the auspices of the AMIRA P9 flotation program has indicated that the metallurgical performance achieved from a flotation cell arises from the interaction of two essentially independent property classes, namely the cell operating conditions and the properties of the cell feed stream. These observations have led to the development of a model structure that associates a constant set of flotation parameters to the streams of the circuit, which are transformed into a flotation response depending on the operating conditions within the flotation cell.A variety of alternative model structures exist within the literature which do not make this distinction between cell and stream flotation properties, and many of these models are in widespread use for flotation optimisation and design studies, both in industry and academia.In this paper, circuit survey and laboratory batch flotation data collected from an industrial flotation circuit are analysed. The data demonstrate that streams in an industrial flotation circuit exhibit varying particle floatability – concentrate streams typically float faster than tailing streams (Figure 1(a)). This floatability, however, is generally conserved around the various units within the flotation process (i.e. the effective floatability of the combined feed and product streams of a unit is equivalent (Figure 1(b)))."

"The analysis of laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) combines remote sensing techniques with laser spectroscopy. Over variable distances different rock types are identified or changes in the quality of one rock type are recognised. LIF Analysers operate non-destructive, non-contact, on-line and in real-time. Installed over conveyors or over driveways the analysers ""look"" at the moving bulk solids 20 times per second and provide in real-time information for downstream sorting, blending or optimisation of processing. LIF Analysers recognise rock types (hardness information or dilution control), degrees of alteration, degrees of oxidation and –semi-quantitative- content of certain minerals in an ore. Only under favourable conditions quantitative assay information can be obtained, as e.g. the phosphorus content of Kiruna type iron ore.The main application of LIF Analysers is seen in big open pit operations, where the muck is trucked to an in-pit crusher and the crushed rock conveyed out of the pit to its respective destination: e.g. the primary high grade ore to the mill, the low grade or oxidised ore to the leach pads and the internal waste to the dumps.In underground mining and especially in block caving operations dilution control is of utmost importance. Here a LIF Analyser mounted on the back of a pick-up truck can be moved from drawpoint to drawpoint and quickly assess the degree of dilution.Closer to the mill the stockpile management based on LIF analysis will lead to stockpiles sorted according to rock type (hardness), degrees of alteration and oxidation. In case of direct feeding rom ore to the mill the knowledge of the type and quality of all the material between the in-pit crusher and the mill facilitates optimisation of e.g. reagent dosage."

Previous studies have reported that inorganic electrolytes can enhance floatability of coal. The research has shown that the enhancement, if any, is highly dependent on changes in solution pH, type of electrolyte, and electrolyte concentration. The reasons for this are still not clear. In this study the floatability of coal particles in mono and divalent salt solutions was investigated. The zeta potential and hydrophobicity of the coal was measured experimentally, and a modified Hallimond tube was used to determine the floatability of coal particles by single bubbles, where the collision efficiency was equal to unity. The experimental information was used in conjunction with the Hogg-Healy-Fuerstenau equation to quantify the electrical double layer interaction. It was found that for low electrolyte concentration (less than 0.1 M) solutions the flotation recovery of coal particles was less than that for distilled water, and decreased with increase in concentration. Conversely, at electrolyte concentrations above 0.1 M, flotation recovery increased with increasing concentration (Figure 1). Both of these results are consistent with previous observations, but are inconsistent with expectations when considering the possible influence of electrical double layer interaction. Modelling of the system indicates that the electrical double layer is compressed with increasing electrolyte concentration, resulting in an increase in flotation recovery due to a diminishing of the (electrical double layer) repulsion between the bubble and the coal particles. Moreover, for electrolyte concentrations above about 0.1 M the electrical double layer is completely depressed and would have little further influence, if any, on the flotation process. Therefore, the electrical double layer interaction is not the principal determining factor for the flotation of coal in electrolyte solutions.

"Autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding (AG and SAG) have been considered a step forward in comparison to conventional grinding circuits with several stages of crushing and using ball (and/or rod) grinding mills. However, existing AG and SAG technologies still can be improved and have an immense potential from the viewpoint of economic benefits.Experience gained by the Technics & Technologies of Disintegration Ltd. (TTD) in the research of grinding processes shows that comminution in AG and SAG mills can be performed in a more effective way. The company’s approach comprises the following elements:- Novel mill design- New liners and lifters- Novel discharge grid design- Technique of treating material of critical particle sizeA novel mill of the cantilever type capable to operate in the AG and SAG mode has been developed. The cantilevertype mill has a high diameter to length ratio, which dramatically increases the throughput rate, and is characterised by high reliability, fast installation and low capital and operating costs.Tests of the new heel-shaped liners, originally aimed at improving the intact condition of diamond, indicated that they play an important role in the grinding process. Tests performed by TTD jointly with ALROSA, MINTEK and Anglo-American Corporation, demonstrated that the heelshaped liners provided the increase in the throughput rate varying from 30 to 80 % and the decrease in power consumption in the range 30-55 % for grinding of kimberlite and platinum-containing ores.Investigation of the influence of the main grid parameters on the efficiency of grinding led TTD to a special design of a mill discharge grid, with a radial location of openings, the slot width varying from the periphery to the centre and the grid surface provided with “heels”. The design allows one to control the particle size distribution of the ground product without affecting the grid throughput rate."

In High Pressure Grinding Rolls (HPGR), the material grinding takes place between the fixed and floating rollers. In this regard, the rollers start to wear over a period of time, which is impacted by for e.g.: ore characteristics, operating pressure, feed material size and non-uniform feed presentation across the roller width. HPGR operational experiences have shown that the rollers do not wear at the same rate. This differential wear rate over time leads to differences in the tangential speeds of the rollers, causing an uneven gap between the fixed and floating rollers in relation to the material. This unwanted but extremely common situation results in a less effective grinding process due to the fact that the slip between rollers is not optimal. As the rollers wear profile increases, the roller with smaller diameter starts to wear further, deteriorating the comminution efficiency up to a point where operators have to stop the HPGR to replace the rollers. Since the wear rate of the rollers is not equal, the replacement of the same cannot be properly planned so that their life-time are fully utilized. In this paper, a dynamic load share control with the use of ABB’s variable speed drive system is proposed, which provides the possibility to the HPGR operator to impact the roller wear in such a way that it equalizes the wear rate to a certain extent and extends the roller life time. Called RollXtend™, this solution includes a load share factor which can be parameterized based on the wear measurement performed manually during maintenance procedure. Additionally, this paper describes an automated load sharing concept based on a non-invasive wear measurement method. The partial results of the technology trial in a copper/gold mine are presented, which aimed at detecting stud damage and estimating the real rollers profile throughout their life time. The final objective of the pilot project was reduce the amount of planned and unplanned downtimes of the HPGR by increasing the rollers life time and avoiding catastrophic stud damages.

"Flotation of metal-organic precipitate in column is sensible to the hydrodynamic conditions determined by the diameter and dispersion of rising bubbles. Thus, the dissipation energy in the system resulting of ratio between superficial fluid velocities (gas and feed) in the column is main parameter for precipitate flotation in pilot or industrial scales. The knowledge of aggregate structure can lead to better understanding and control of many solid-liquid separation processes (sedimentation, filtration, thickening and flotation). Many authors highlight the importance of structural properties (i.e. floc density) for different industrial applications.This approach was applied to achieve the flotation of molybdenum precipitate obtained with organic collector a- benzoin oxime for molar ratio 1:2. Flotation tests were carried out at lab and pilot scale with rigorous control of the size distribution of bubbles and the values of dissipation energy in the systems.Structural evolution of Mo precipitate and the destruction phenomenon were described by using of the various fractal dimensions, which were deduced from experimental data of laser sizer devices and optic microscopy pictures of precipitate. The boundary fractal dimensions Df of large aggregates allows the detection of a structural scaled organisation of the precipitate flocs (elementary germs-microflocs-flocs). The fractal dimension of the particle mass distribution Dm=1.94+/-0.15 suggests, for the floc structure, a cluster-cluster aggregation process either with structuration or breakage phases.The destruction process characterised by a fractal dimension Dg controls the final size distribution. The floc destruction occurs for the lowest values of the dissipation energy (0.02 – 0.05 W/kg). The relation between Dg and the system dissipation energy Et (for various energy E dissipated in the agitation cell) involves the different breakage mechanisms of aggregates in function of the aggregation bonds (Fig. 1).Besides, the destruction of floc produces very fine particles (elementary germs or/and microfloc according to E), and thus induces the difficulties of bubble-particle attachment during the precipitate flotation in column. Yet, very small bubbles, which increase the collision probability, would make the flotation feed rate decrease. The optima ratio between superficial gas and feed velocities are determined for bubble size and flotation results control at pilot scale. Thus, it is possible to providing the catastrophically changes of precipitate column flotation by using the following established experimental relation: the mean diameter d of the flocs under the action of dissipated energy Et follows a power like law (d~Et -0.5). This allows estimating the size distribution of flocs for the E values which can appear in column."

Crushing plants are widely used around the world as a pre-processing step in the mineral and mining industries and as standalone processing plants in the aggregates industry. Despite automation and different advanced model predictive control, a lot of the process is still managed by operators. The operators affect a lot of the performance. The numbers of the improvement they can achieve are at least as big as the advanced control algorithms?, today. Therefore, it is also important to train the operators so they know how to behave in different situations. Models for crushers and other production units have been developed during the years and the latest add is the different units? dynamic behavior being brought in, which gives the crushing plants dynamic time dependant performance. This can be used as a simulator for operators training. By connecting a Human Machine Interface (HMI) to a dynamic simulator with the models incorporated, a training environment for operators can be achieved. In this paper, a dynamic crushing plant simulator implemented in MATLAB/SIMULINK has been connected to an HMI via a PLC. The HMI is placed in a control room at the university and complemented with monitors showing sequences from the process connected to the simulations, thus creating a realistic control room for training. In the created training environment, the operators can be trained under realistic conditions. Simple training scenarios and how they could be simulated are discussed. Apart from the increased level of knowledge and experience among the operators, the time is an important factor. While a real crushing plant is still being built, the operators to be can already be trained, saving a lot of the commissioning time. The demand for minerals has never been higher. Moreover, the rate at which this demand is growing is unprecedented, and expansions and new mines will be required to fulfill these growing needs. This, in turn requires a skilled engineering workforce that can develop and operate minerals extraction processes to utilise effectively more complex ores. The International Mineral Processing Council (IMPC) has established a Commission on Mineral Processing Education to consider the global challenge of ensuring an adequate supply of well-trained mineral processing engineers. The Commission has, for the past four years, been collecting international information of the recent mineral process engineering supply position and with a view into the near future. The data collected by the international Commission members are as follows: ? Undergraduate student numbers in minerals engineering ? A breakdown of their male/female ratio ? The fraction of the students from each course that enter the minerals industry ? Teaching staff numbers and age profile This data has been collated and analysed, and the findings are presented. It is clear from the analysis that the supply situation is very different in different regions of the world, and that great opportunities exist for targeted recruitment into the industry to meet the future talent demand. Further, an attempt at correlate the supply of minerals engineers based on the local mineral production rate is shown, which shows that there are clear outliers.

"Ores of ferrous metals traditionally make up the bulk of recoverable reserves of solid minerals, and iron ore concentrates - in the processing and consumption. To obtain concentrates, three main methods are used: dry and wet magnetic separation, gravity and flotation. But even their integration into complex developed schemes with finishing operations often do not solve the problem of obtaining high-quality concentrates, which are necessary for powder metallurgy and electric steelmaking. Increasing the iron content in the concentrate by removing harmful impurities is the goal of this work. The possibility of reducing the operations of wet magnetic separation twice and completely eliminating concentrating operations in ball mills from the scheme of operations has been established. Selective leaching agents for each type of iron ores have been created, allowing to obtain concentrates with an iron content of not less than 68-69% and negligible concentrations of harmful impurities. Methodical recommendations for long-term storage of bioreagents in the active state, their immobilization and preparation in industrial conditions at the enterprise Nedropolzovatelja are developed. The proposed biotechnology, which allows to obtain high quality iron and conditional concentrates for harmful impurities, is protected by patents (RU 2537684 ""Method for fine-tuning of high-sulfur magnetite concentrate"" for magnetite ores and Pat. RU 2599068. For the industrial implementation of the new technology, organizational and technological measures have been developed in the system with Road maps for types of ores. The developed technology makes it possible to condition noble metal, tin, tungsten, nickel and other concentrates in harmful impurities such as arsenic, antimony, mercury, sulfur, copper, zinc, iron, phosphorus, manganese, in total 30 components that pass into solution under the influence of bioreagents.INTRODUCTION Consumption of various metals is steadily increasing every year, the volume of mining is constantly increasing. Ores of ferrous metals traditionally make up the bulk of the recoverable reserves of solid minerals. Enrichment technologies for iron-containing ores are reduced to the combination of three main methods: wet and dry magnetic separation, gravity and flotation. But even the use of complex advanced technological schemes often does not lead to the production of high-quality concentrates suitable for metallurgical processing. In this case, either lapping operations or effective technical and technological solutions are used in the main enrichment cycle. Widely used in practice methods for improving the quality of iron ore concentrates include the use of finishing operations (fine screening, reverse cation flotation), staging of concentrates, the use of more sophisticated equipment (separators with running magnetic field, magnetic gravity classifiers, column flotation machines)."

Coals occurring in nature are characterized by various properties. According to Polish norms, the classification of coals taking into consideration their calorific value contains coals from type 31 (flaming coal) until type 43 (meta-anthracite). The samples of coal of type 31 were taken for investigation. To this purpose, the approximations of ash contents and density distribution functions were done for this coal type (determination of marginal distribution functions). They were the basis for application of so-called Morgenstern distribution functions to approximate the function Z=L (?), where Z is ash contents and ? - coal density. Then, the comparison between obtained results was performed and the results were statistically evaluated. They are the basis for the further research of other types of coals.
