Solvent extraction of gallium from Bayer solution of Jajarm Alumina plant was investigated us-ing Kelex100 as extractant. Taguchi experimental design method was used in order to optimize the separation factor of Ga and Al. Optimum conditions were obtained as follows: Temperatuer: 65°C, volume ratio of aqueous phase to organic phase: 3.0:1.0, process time: 60min and organic phase containing 15vol.% Kelex100, 5vol.% isodecanol in kerosene. In this conditions, 74% gallium and 0.3% aluminum was extracted and separation factor was obtained 828.63.

More than 50% of all the molybdenum produced in the world is a by-product of copper production. A bulk Cu-Mo concentrate is first produced, which is subsequently separated into Cu and Mo concentrates. The Cu-Mo separation circuits rely on the use of inorganic Cu sulfide depressants such as NaSH, Na2S, and Nokes, which are hazardous, and sometimes require very large dosages for effective depression. Synthetic polymeric depressants are safer and more efficient, and are now being used on the plant-scale. Data presented in this paper demonstrates that these polymeric depressants can replace 50-90% of all the NaSH in Cu-Mo separation at a fraction of the NaSH dosage. In this paper we provide an overview of the mechanistic and practical aspects of the Cu-Mo separation with inorganic depressants and polymeric depressants. Important practical aspects include depression dynamics (related to conditioning time and rate of depression), optimum pH for effective separation, the role of pH modifiers such as lime and NaOH, and the effect of flotation gas on the efficacy of the separation. Using nitrogen as flotation gas, the NaSH consumption can be reduced by up to 95% by using a small amount of polymeric depressant. The experiments with conditioning time demonstrate that there is a significant rate component to the depression mechanism with NaSH, which is absent for the polymeric depressant system. This has important implications in the effective use and application of the depressant. It is also demonstrated that the pH modifier type (NaOH or Ca(OH)2) has no significant effect on separation efficiency and Mo recovery (i.e. Ca2+ ions do not depress MoS2 in the Cu-Mo separation).

In this investigation, the possibility of physical separation methods such as attrition scrubbing, hydro-cycloning and also reverse flotation were investigated for silica and calcite removal from relatively low grade kaolin. The head sample was provided by the Iran China Clay Company and the major oxides contained in the head sample were Al2O3, SiO2, CaO and Fe2O3 with grades of 15.07%, 71.05%, 4.35% and 0.52% respectively. The liberation degree of calcite and iron impurities from kaolin particles were over 80% for particles finer than 210µm and 53µm respectively. Attrition scrubbing tests were carried out with scrubber cell of the conventional Denver flotation cell model D-12. Laboratory scale hydro cyclone was applied for the beneficiation of kaolin. Attrition scrubbing tests with control screen of 106µm did not achieve the desirable yield for purification of this kaolin sample, but hydro cyclone experiments resulted in better results. Hydro cyclone with 2.54 cm diameter used and the only variable was the cyclone inlet pressure ranging from 68.65kPa to 98.07kPa. The best inlet pressure was found to be 68.65kPa. Based on the optimized condition, Al2O3 and CaO amount in the hydro-cyclone overflow was 23% and 1.47% respectively. However weight recovery of the overflow in each cyclone experiment was less than 30% and multi stages of hydro-cyclones would have to be applied for higher weight recovery and better yield. All of the flotation tests were carried out in the conventional Denver flotation cell model D-12. Reverse floatation tests for calcite removal were carried out under alkali pH based on full factorial design of variables in 2 levels including one center point. The three parameters tested were collector dosage (gr/ton), pH and depressant dosage (gr/ton). The collected data from flotation tests were analyzed and optimized collector and depressant dosage were 1000 gr/ton and optimized pH was 8.5. Under the above mentioned conditions, calcite removal was about 75% and CaO content in the final product was reduced from 4.35% to 1.33%. However calcite removal will increase to more than 83% if the feed particle size in flotation tests is reduced from 210µm to finer than 53µm. Finally after optimization, the best working condition and possible flow sheet were developed.

The kinetics of oxidative dissolution of lead sulfide in solutions of nitric acid and sodium hypochlorite was studied using the rotating disk method and the factor experiment design. The dependences of the PbS dissolution rate on concentration of oxidant (HNO3 or NaOCl), temperature, disk rotation frequency, and duration of interaction were determined. The adequate kinetic models allowing calculating the specific dissolution rate at any combination of values of the influencing factors were obtained. As a result of the complex analysis of kinetic parameters, the modes of the each process proceeding were established, their macromechanisms were determined, and the limiting stages of the oxidative dissolution processes were revealed. The dissolution kinetics of lead sulfide in solutions of nitric acid was found to have several regimes. At HNO3 concentrations below 0.5 mol/L, the process proceeds in a mixed mode close to a diffusion-controlled. It is caused by low oxidative activity of HNO3 and considerable diffusional diffuculties at this acid concentration range. At the nitric acid concentrations more than 0.5 mol/L and less than 6.0 mol/L, the process was found to be kinetically controlled. The limiting stage of the interaction is the surface chemical reaction. The observed relatively high order of the dissolution rate with respect to the concentration of HNO3 was explained by the autocatalytic action of the acid reduction products. At nitric acid concentrations exceeding 6 mol/L, the process proceeds in a mixed mode close to a diffusion-controlled, and the dissolution rate sharply decreased that was explained by a decrease in the solubility of reaction products. When lead sulfide is dissolved in sodium hypochlorite solutions, at first time the amount of PbS transferred into solution remains close to zero. Gradually, as time goes, this amount begins to increase sharply. The dissolution rate rises and reaches the maximum value, further remaining constant. At the steady-state regime, the dissolution rate is independent of the duration of interaction and disk rotation frequency. The process was found to be kinetically controlled. The limiting stage is likely to be chemical reaction on the surface of solid lead sulfide. The obtained kinetic characteristics enlarge the database on hydrochemical oxidation kinetics of sulfides and can be used for the elaboration of the recommendations for the effective comprehensive exploitation of lead-bearing ores and concentrates. "A typical low-grade of high sulfur bauxite fr contains 54.71% Al2O3, 11.35% SiO2 while the ratio of aluminum and silicon was 4.25, and harmful components such as Fe and S graded 7.3% and 1.33% respectively. The ore is characterized by complex mineral compositions, fine dissemination of particle size of pyrite and diaspore, low desulfurization efficiency, and difficult separation of aluminum and silicon. In order to improve the degree of concentration, recovery and desulfurization efficiency on the basis of process mineralogy studies, the floatation behavior of high sulfur bauxite in the process of desulfurization and desilication were studied through laboratory tests and pilot plant tests. Main research contents and conclusions were presented as followings :(1)Process mineralogy research shows: the main mineral components include diaspore, kaolinite, chlorite, pyrite, limonite. (2)Batch flotation tests indicated that slime can be dispersed well during desulfurization floatation when Na2CO3 was used as modifying agent. (3)Poilot plant tests shows that Batch flotation tests results are correct. 2?PROCESS MINERALOGY 2.1 Chemical Composition of Ore 2.1.1 Spectral Analysis of Sample The results of the semi-quantitative analysis of X-Ray -fluorescence spectra of the original ore are shown in Table 2-1. The results of spectral analysis show that the main components of the sample are O, Al, Si, followed by Fe, Mg, Ti, S and so on, while the content of other elements is very small. The value is Al, and maybe Ti, for bauxite, while Fe and S are unfavorable elements, and Si and Mg and Ca are the main impurity elements."

In cyanide leaching procedure, achieving an acceptable efficiency for silver and gold is very time-consuming, thus, enough studies have not been performed for optimization and modeling of this process. The kinetics of cyanide leaching includes two steps: first step comprises a sharp slope while the other has a slight increasing trend. In the present study, in order to reduce the time and cost, the cyanide leaching process of a sulfide silver/gold ore was optimized in the first period. The applied parameters and their ranges are: temperature 20-40 (°C); time 1-8 (hrs); cyanide concentration 1-2 (mole cyanide / mole Cu); the percentage of solid to liquid 1-2 (%) and pH 10-12. For design of experiments fractional factorial 2(5-1) was used. Also four center points were applied to increase the accuracy of the model. In addition, by analysis of variance (ANOVA) the most effective parameters were identified and the optimized condition was determined. A regression model was proposed to describe the effects of independent variables and their interacting role on silver recovery. Results showed that the model was linear for silver and nonlinear for gold. In the gold recovery process, the two important parameters are time and pH with the former being more effective. Due to the existence of cyanide ions in the medium, temperature and cyanide concentration have less influence in the gold recovery process. Solid to liquid ratio, in addition, comprises a slight negative impact on the procedure. This emphasizes the different kinetics of silver/ gold cyanide leaching. Finally, using the optimum condition the amount of silver and gold obtained were 61% and 67% in 8 hours, respectively. "Raw materials are among the main building blocks of a growing economy. Without raw materials, no matter whether it is primary or secondary, production is not possible. Products with high added value require special materials. Recently, worldwide production of some important raw materials mainly comes from a handful of countries, for example: China (Rare Earths Elements (REE)), Russia, South Africa (Platinum Group Elements (PGE)), Democratic Republic of Congo (Cobalt), etc. In the EU as well as in Hungary, the importance of the so called 14 critical raw materials has been recognized. Within the frame of the TÁMOP-4.2.2.A-11/1/KONV-2012-0005 - CriticEL project, the Institute of Raw Materials Preparation and Environmental Processing in cooperation with the Institute of Mineralogy and Geology of the University of Miskolc are working on the exploration of the primary and secondary sources and developing innovative preparation technologies of critical raw materials in Hungary. The research work showed in this article, focused on the recovery of critical materials from LCD TVs and monitors. There are high deviations in different literatures regarding to concentrations of critical elements in displays (e.g.: indium), probably because of the differences in production year, producers and recovery technologies. During the research - described in this study - a well specified sample of quite large amount of displays had been used. The exact place and shape of the ITO (indium-tin oxide) layer were determined by SEM analysis. The applied preparation technology was developed based on the results of our investigations and by technologies found in the literature. The developed process accomplishes two main parts: the mechanical preparation (mainly the liberation of different display layers, removal of liquid crystal) and the acidic dissolution of indium."

Based on detailed theoretical analysis of coarse floatation and three-phase froth, a laboratory system which contains a new type of froth floatation equipment is established. Through water experiment, the relationship among floatation dynamics parameters of the equipment is studied and the best work parameters are educed too. Based on all of above, Slurry test is carried out in a copper concentration plant. Granule between 0.28~0.45mm can be reclaimed successfully. The slurry test proves that to separate coarse minerals in froth floatation equipment is a kind of effective method, it is well worth to make a further study.

An innovative hybrid technology for beneficiation of difficult-to-process sedimentary copper ores comprising acidic leaching stage of the feed combined with subsequent flotation has been presented. Acidic leaching, preceding the flotation process, plays a beneficial role of efficient chemical grinding for liberation of copper sulphide minerals finely disseminated in the copper-bearing carbonate-shale rocks. The process was applied on a fully industrial scale. Flotation results were analysed for both chemically modified and unmodified flotation feeds. After several months of industrial scale operation, it was found that both metals recovery and concentrate grade remarkably increased as a result of application of chemical modification of the flotation feed. Beneficial effects of chemical pre-treatment of flotation middlings on selectivity at a comparable concentrate yield in industrial flotation scale, revealed a considerable increase of the total copper recovery by 3.5percent. Based on the industrial and laboratory investigations we consider a further development of the process and introduction of hydrometallurgy for better recovering of metals from low-grade copper concentrates

Kelsey Centrifugal Jig was found to be promising for the beneficiation of fine coal particles. The present study was aimed at in-depth understanding of the separation features of Kelsey Jig through detailed experimentation. Beneficiation of fine coal of size 150 x 300 µm was studied in a laboratory Kelsey Jig. The thickness of the ragging bed is found to be an extremely crucial parameter apart from the other process parameters such as rotational speed and pulsation frequency. A constant pulp density (25% solids) of the feed slurry was maintained in the study. The feed rate was also kept constant at 50 kg/hr dry solids. Silica sand of size -1.68+0.85 mm was used as ragging material to avoid the pegging of internal screen having an opening of 425 µm. The rotational speed was found to have significant effect on the depth of the ragging bed and its porosity, which influenced the separation performance considerably. Pulsation was identified as the key factor in stratifying the coal bed and defining the misplacement as well as ragging bed porosity, which influenced the mass yield and quality of the products. Beneficiation studies were carried out with rotational speed varying between 900-1000 rpm while pulsation frequency was kept within 850-925 rpm. In a single pass through the Kelsey Jig 7-8% (absolute) reduction in the ash content of the feed material was observed at more than 55% mass yield. High rotational speed, moderate pulsation, and low ragging bed depth favored good cleaning. A high bed depth was found to facilitate rejection of high ash materials. It was established that Kelsey Jig is effective in fine coal cleaning though a controlled operation is required in order to achieve superior performance. "Due to an increasing demand for nickel and cobalt and the depletion of nickel sulphide deposits worldwide, the production of ferronickel from lateritic nickel ores becomes more significant. About 60 percent of nickel reserves are present in laterite deposits. Common production methods like acid leaching or smelting operations implicate high material and energy consumption. Physical processing methods are also not efficient, because of the fine microstructural intergrowth of the minerals carrying valuable elements such as nickel and cobalt. Due to the high energy consumption of metallurgical treatment of lateritic nickel ore (nickel grade: 0.8 - 3.0%, Co: 0.05 - 0.15%), the separation of waste material (about 75 - 85%) before the metallurgical treatment is desirable. Therefore, an alternative process has been developed, combining a pyro-metallurgical pre-treatment with selected mechanical processing methods. The developed process consisted of a selective pre-reduction and non-selective segregation of the contained metal phases in the first stage. By this, the properties of the metal carrying minerals were changed and could become subject to concentration by means of fine beneficiation processes afterwards. The parameters of the pre-reduction and segregation were varied and the pre-treated samples were examined concerning their efficiency of metalization grade and metal grain size. This paper describes the investigation of pre-treatment methods of a lateritic nickel ore. The pre-treatment and possible subsequent separation methods were examined with regard to the recovery of the valuable elements. Metalization grade was around 80% for both Ni and Co with metal phase grain sizes below 20 µm. Scanning electron microscopy revealed distribution of new metal phases not only on the reducing agent, but also on the “slag” material.INTRODUCTION Nickel laterites are characterized as strongly weathered regoliths with several zones containing reserves of nickel (Ni) and cobalt (Co). These laterites are formed on serpentinites and ultramafic rocks under climatic and/or tectonic conditions that have changed over time (Butt & Cluzel, 2013). The formation of Ni laterites is influenced by numerous geological and environmental factors. In general, there are three ore types named according to the dominant Ni hosting minerals: oxides, hydrous magnesia (Mg) silicates and clay silicates (Butt & Cluzel, 2013). The most Ni laterite deposits contain two of these ore types, usually an oxide zone and an either clay or Mg silicate zone. Distribution of these principal deposit types, their average Ni-bearing phases and mean Ni grade are shown in Table 1. A schematic profile of the different deposits based on the development on serpentized ultramafic rocks is given in Figure 1 (Butt & Cluzel, 2013)."

Mica plate is broadly used in electric industry, production of man-made mica paper plate is in-creasing. The problem coming with is that large quantities of leftover materials unable to be re-cycled are produced during cutting and molding of mica plate productions. The leftover materials are always abandoned as crabs, which not only pollute the environment but also waste our resources. The study intends to find a new measure to decompose and to reuse the mica plate leftover materials so as to create a new production process of mica plate, which is clean and does not produce crabs.

"In this paper, experiences from Polish non-ferrous metals ores enrichment plants in the copper and blende concentrates quality improvement are discussed. The blende concentrate being produced in ZGH Boleslaw S.A., with Zn content of about 54,5% is characterized by the relatively high magnesium content reaching a level of 1% resulting from the dolomite presence, while for the zinc production by electrowinning a concentrate in which magnesium content should not exceed 0,3% is required. The implemented new technology for the quality improvement of blende concentrate is based on the leaching of zinc concentrate with sulfuric acid aimed at dissolving of the contained dolomite, and then flotation of the leached concentrate. It allows to obtain a concentrate with magnesium content below 0,1% at the simultaneously increased zinc content to about 57,5%. In the paper, laboratory tests results on the development of optimal flotation flowsheet for the gypsum removal and the industrial tests results concerning the process optimization of this flotation are discussed. In turn, the copper concentrate being produced in Polish copper ore enrichment plants KGHM PM S.A., is characterized by the increased organic carbon content - above 8%. It creates problems with the smelting of this concentrate because of difficulties with the heat removal derived from the combustion of organic carbon in the flash smelting process. The implementation of segregating flotation to the industrial practice allows the effective production of two concentrates with the differentiated chemical compositions - a concentrate with increased copper content and reduced organic carbon content for the flash smelting process, and a concentrate with lower copper content and increased organic carbon content for the shaft smelting process. In the paper, conditions of the segregating flotation and the achieved results are described."

"The separation of coal material of three types of coals originating from three various Polish hard coal mines (types 31, 34.2 and 35, according to Polish nomenclature, which were steam coal, semi-coking coal and coking coal) into particle size fractions and then into particle density fractions was done and then the following parameters were measured for each particle size-density fraction: combustion heat, ash contents, sulfur contents, volatile parts contents, analytic moisture. In this way a 7-dimensional vector of data was created. Using methods of factor analysis the important features of coal were selected, which decide about their membership to individual types. To evaluate the appropriateness of the applied method the Bartlett’s sphericity test as well coefficient of Kaiser-Mayer-Olkin (KMO) were used. To select important factors the Kaiser criterion and Cattell’s scree test were used. The obtained results were compared with the results obtained in previous works by means of observation tunnels method. The results showed which particular features are crucial to define the type of coal what is also important to select appropriate method of its enrichment.INTRODUCTION Coal extracted from the mine is often a mixture of coals of various quality originating, for example, from various coal layers. One of the most important issues is to determine its quality, what means to verify if it fulfills certain requirements. Usually, such parameters as combustion heat, ash contents, sulfur contents, volatile parts contents and analytic moisture decide what the coal quality is (Drzymala, 2009). Such investigations are expensive and time consuming. That is why it seems to be important to determine the mutual connections and interactions between them what would make possible to reduce the amount of the necessary parameters. This issue was already investigated with successes in several works [Jamróz and Niedoba, 2013; 2014; Niedoba, 2015]. This work is another approach to this problem. Here, the investigation of possible reduction of researched parameters was done on the basis of the factor analysis. The obtained results confirm the earlier observations."

Thiol collector mixtures are commonly used in the flotation of base metal sulfides and platinum-bearing ores. There are synergistic benefits claimed for these collector mixtures, with mixtures lowering total dosage requirements, improving coarse particle recovery and the rate of flotation. Some of the secondary collectors are known to have frothing effects. Therefore, a previous study aimed to decouple froth and pulp effects and considered only the bubble-particle attachments in the pulp. This was achieved through microflotation experiments, where various ratios of the ethyl and isobutyl chain lengths of xanthates, dithiocarbamates and dithiophosphates were used as collectors. Results from these experiments showed a marked increase in galena recovery using mixtures of xanthate with either dithiophosphate or dithiocarbamate. In the current study, the froth phase was introduced in the form of batch flotation studies to determine whether benefits noted during microflotation experiments would be carried through to a more realistic froth flotation scenario. The findings show that there was no significant difference in the flotation recovery between the best single collectors and mixtures of these collectors. In addition, single collectors that behaved poorly in microflotation experiments showed good flotation performance in the batch flotation experiments. The differences between the microflotation results and the batch flotation results are attributed to differences in particle froth stabilizing properties and/or differences in energy input between the microflotation and batch flotation cells. In addition, galena and pyrite showed marked differences in frothing effects and in their preferences for collector type. Keywords: froth flotation, collector mixtures, sulphide minerals

The shortage of water supply in some regions of the globe is particularly problematic and forces mining companies to adopt alternatives like pumping sea water from the ocean up to the mining sites. Although deaeration of sea water or the use of lined pipelines are known options to prevent corrosion during pumping, a recent development of a new corrosion inhibitor allowed the use of simple mild steel pipelines for this purpose. The objective of this study is to demonstrate the recent advances of this technology in protecting against not only general corrosion but localized corrosion, main cause of corrosion-related pipeline failures. Corrosion studies were carried out using electrochemical techniques, weight loss balance as well microscopy surface analysis in order to measure and therefore evaluate the treatment efficiency. The right dosage of corrosion inhibitors may vary depending on water composition and characteristics of each system. Differences were observed depending on the sea water source. Pretreatment of metallic surface impacts the observed corrosion rate which can be as low as 3.6 mpy. The absence of pitting or localized corrosion was achieved in aerated seawater.

A tertiary amine containing polyamine in its back bone was grafted to exfoliated graphite oxide by means of a series of chemical reactions.The synthesized amine functionalized polyaniline grafted to exfoliated graphite oxide (EGAMPANI) was characterized using various techniques such as, FTIR, TGA, Raman, and X-Ray diffraction.The synthesized EGAMPANI was blended with carbon paste electrode, and used to study the response of Hg2+ in acetate buffer solution.Preliminary analysis showed that the anodic current intensity using the EGAMPANI modified electrode was higher during a potential sweep and 10-4 M concentration of mercury could be detected which could be improved to 10-6 M using anodic stripping voltammetric technique. "Two types of slag cooling is used world wide - cooling in ladles and cooling in pits. The flotation comparison of the type cooling regimes was done at Aurubis Bulgaria. In Copper smelter Aurubis Bulgaria (Pirdop), the residual copper in the slags from Flash furnace and Converters is recovered by flotation. The slag flotation plant processes blend of three parts FSF and one part converter slag. The slag processing comprises: pit cooling, crushing, two stages grinding (autogenous and ball) and flotation. The copper content in flotation concentrate is over 20 % and in flotation tail is under 0.5 %. In order to improve the copper recovery, different cooling rate of the liquid slags should be achieved. Three cooling experiments with flash smelting furnace (FSF) slag have been done: two of them in pits with different volume and one cooling experiment in metallic ladle. The ambient air temperature during the cooling tests was from -4 to +4 OC. Laboratory flotation tests in open cycle were done with an aim to compare the slags behaviors cooled at different conditions. In this paper the effect of different cooling on the flotation process will be presented. The copper recovery and distribution by sizes in the tails, copper content in the rougher concentrate, and the concentrate yield are discussed."

Bubbles around 1 mm diameter provide the high interfacial area for capture and transport of hydrophobic particles in flotation. The formation of such fine bubbles is commonly achieved by addition of frothers that appear to simultaneously retard coalescence and promote break-up. High inorganic salt content in process water can substitute for frother. In this work we focus on the action of salt (sodium chloride) on formation of bubbles by break-up. An experimental setup that isolates break-up from coalescence was employed. A pocket of air is exposed to controlled mechanical turbulence to produce single bubbles by the induced deformation of the air and the events imaged. The presence of salt is shown to produce smaller bubbles than in water alone. Comparison with a similar study on frothers is made. The argument is advanced that the presence of frother and salt creates surface tension gradients at the air/water interface which add to the mechanical energy of the deformation and break-up process.

"Two low grade calcium bentonite (Ca-bentonite) from Hejia (HJ) and Boteng (BT), Shandong, China, mainly contain montmorillonite and quartz, and slightly feldspar, calcite, and montmorillonite content are 32.37% and 55.90%, respectively. In order to examine the feasibility to produce activated clay to meet the standard of Chinese chemical industry (HG/T2569-2007), three types of industrial production process are proposed according to the screen test. The first process is grinding the raw bentonite to -200 mesh and then activating. The second is to activate the raw bentonite directly, and then classify the production to -200 mesh. The last one is to activate the raw bentonite after purification. Three parameters, which are sulphuric acid strength, ratio of liquid to solid and treatment time, are optimized via orthogonal test for every process. The preliminary test indicates that it is feasible to produce acid bentonite of difference quality. For the sample of HJ, milling the raw to -200 mesh first and activating afterwards, the parameter is at 9% acid strength, the ratio of liquid to solid 2, the time 4 hours, temperature 90°C, the products can meet the qualified grade for animal and vegetable oils refining. For the sample of BT, milling the raw to -200 mesh first and activating afterwards, the parameter is at 15% acid strength, the ratio of liquid to solid 2.5, the time 2 hours, temperature 90°C, the products can meet the qualified grade of high decolorization for petroleum products refining. For the sample of BT, adopting purification to -325 mesh by stirring and rubbing at first, and then activating at 9% acidity, under the conditions that the ratio of liquid to solid is 2, the time is 2 hours and the temperature is 90°C, the products can meet the first grade of high activation degree for petroleum products refining."
