The U.S. Energy Research and Development Administration (ERDA) is currently conducting a national program to survey for uranium the conterminous United States and Alaska by 1980 using airborne and surface techniques. This paper discusses the techniques used and some of the results of airborne surveys conducted to date by Geodata International, Inc. Airborne gamma radiation and the earth's magnetic field data are measured to provide data leading to regions potentially more favorable for the exploration and discovery of uranium ore. High-sensitivity radiometric and magnetic field data have been gathered from an aircraft with an average surface altitude of 400 feet (Figure 1). Under most conditions, data are usable up to an aircraft surface elevation of about 1250 feet where limitations will be discussed. Results of data analysis under GJO-1632, GJ0-1644, GJO-1654 and GJO-1663 will be discussed.

In order to predict and minimize detrimental production problems due to the recycling of process water in sulfide ore processing, the influence of major species, calcium and sulfate in process water on sphalerite flotation was investigated through Hallimond tube flotation, zeta potential, diffuse reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) measurements using sphalerite mineral sample. Assessment of process water species in flotation was done using deionized water, process water and simulated water containing calcium and sulfate ions in experiments. Hallimond flotation shows increased sphalerite float-ability in process water compared to deionized water, but no significant effect on the presence of calcium and sulfate ions in deionized water using isobutyl xanthate as a collector. The presence of calcium ions reduced the sphalerite?s negative zeta potential, while at higher concentrations, a charge reversal occurred, at about pH 11. FTIR and XPS studies revealed the presence of surface-oxidized sulfoxy and carbonate species on sphalerite at pH 11.5 in deionized water, process water and water containing calcium and sulfate ions. These surface species do not influence xanthate adsorption.

Recently, the North American mining industry experienced a severe recession, forcing managers to take dramatic steps to cut costs and compete in the difficult international market. Some of these steps were closing mines, reducing work forces, renegotiating wage agreements, and purchasing the most productive equipment. Managers are now looking beyond these traditional avenues and are focusing more on advanced technology. In the present environment, it is essential that mine operators obtain the maximum use of capital expended on equipment. However, mine workers do not obtain maximum efficiency or productivity from equipment because the adverse and hazardous mine environment impedes human performance. Also, the efficient use of large, complex machines calls for levels of precision that many times are beyond the capability of even highly trained miners. A possible solution to this problem is a machine that mines without operators - autonomous mining machines. However, numerous problems confront researchers who are attempting to develop such equipment. Some mining tasks are not always composed of a series of cyclic motions readily performed by factory floor robots. In addition, mining takes place in the geological environment where conditions are highly variable and unpredictable. As a result, these machines must be able to sense and adapt to variations in operating tasks and environment. Considerable autonomous vehicle research has been completed, especially for defense. However, autonomous vehicle (AV) technology has not advanced to practical application yet (King, 1988) and mining research is necessary in areas: representing mining specific knowledge; •analyzing and reasoning about sensor data in the mining environment; and •discovering completely new mining methods or new approaches to existing methods that become apparent when we remove the constraints imposed by the necessity of human operators. A specific machine, the LHD, can be used to show the problems for researchers who are attempting to develop autonomous machines for mining. This author chose the LHD because it can borrow concepts developed for autonomous navigation by military programs. But considerable mining research is also required. Furthermore, studies done at the Henderson mine, in Colorado, show autonomous LHD 's promise cost and safety benefits (King, 1988). At Henderson, LHDs load ore from draw points, tram to an ore pass, dump and return, or switch to another draw point. An autonomous LHD must sense vehicle position along the route, relate sensor data to stored-map information, to determine location, follow drift center lines, plan paths between dump position and initiate appropriate control commands, sense vehicle operating status and vehicle health, key on features or targets for special tasks like high speed turns, perform end of travel tasks (loading and dumping), and detect and avoid obstacles. These goals are similar to those for shuttle cars, trucks, and front-end loaders. Therefore, much of the technology is transferable. Each Henderson LHD extracts six to 40 dippers from each of a series of draw points. The LHD transports the ore to an ore pass within 55 m (180 ft) of the draw point, making the longest round trip 110 m (360 ft). The LHDs have very fast hydraulic dumping and loading systems that reduce the round trip cycle to less than one minute. Even though the LHD is capable of 500 trips per shift, the average production is 300 dippers. Man trip and lunch reduce available operating time to 6.5 hours per shift. Mucking difficulties (setting large boulders aside), operator breaks for activities like talking shop, and cleaning and smoothing roads further reduce operating time. Supervised autonomy can reduce the number of operating units by increasing operating time per shift since computer controlled machines can operate during lunch and between shifts and reduce operator errors. If dippers per shift increase from 300 to 350 (long-range goals are 500 dippers per shift), constant production requires only 10 operating LHDs and two spares. Manpower requirements drop from 24 to four by controlling five machines from one workstation. A review of technology available from the Autonomous Land Vehicle, the Advanced Ground Vehicle Technology, the Ground Surveillance Robot, and other programs, show the following differences between others work and mining industry needs: •If we focus initially on mobile haulage vehicles, we can navigate from a map. We do not need to explore. •We can modify the environment to reduce the navigation requirements. •We have a harsher environment than any of the research programs have encountered. •Our equipment must operate faster and more precisely than present AVs. •Our equipment must operate reliably over long periods of time. •We must have better onboard machine health monitoring and diagnostics. •The AV programs do not address geosensing. •The major AV programs are not cost-effective. For example, we cannot afford the computer power for robust image processing, yet. To computer control an LHD, we must replace the guidance and monitoring skills of experienced operators with sensors, computing hardware, interfaces, and several software mod¬ules. "With the final goal of ultrasonic application to ion exchange in a resin-in-pulp (RIP) system, the feasibility of an indirect ultrasonic application with a submersed ultrasonic probe was investigated first for the enhancement of ion exchange in the following resin-in-solution (RIS) system: Lewatit MonoPlus MP 600XL in an artificial solution with 106 ppm uranium. Ultrasonic radiation enhanced the ion exchange efficiency without mechanical degradation of resin. For 3.6 g/L of resin, the enhancement was 79 percent after 10 min of ion exchange and it gradually decreased to 11 percent at 60 min. In addition, a preliminary test of the mechanical stability of the resin in the RIP system showed little mechanical fracture of the resin due to ultrasound, which indicates that indirect ultrasonic application by a submersed ultrasonic probe is applicable for RIP systems. IntroductionIn uranium ore processing, the ion exchange process has been used on a commercial scale for preconcentration and purification (Gonzalez-Luque and Streat, 1984). The ion exchange process is divided into two processes: (1) a resin-in-column process with the uranium-bearing solutions passed through columns containing resins and (2) a resin-in-pulp (RIP) process with the leached ore pulp exposed to resins. The latter does not require the separation process of leach liquor and ore solids, which reduces process costs. This process, which has been developed commercially since 1955, has a certain drawback. The adsorption rate and efficiency in the RIP process are relatively low, so numerous contacts between resins and leached ore pulp are needed, which adds to the cost (Merritt, 1971). It is necessary to study methods to reduce process costs.Ultrasound can intensify mass transfer, increase the rate of chemical reactions, and change reaction pathways (Thompson and Doraiswamy, 1999; Luque de Castro and Priego-Capotem, 2007; Adewuyi, 2001; Luque-Garcia and Luque de Castro, 2003). It has great potential in chemistry and is especially considered to be a promising method for enhancing mass-transfer-limited processes, such as ion exchange. Enterzari and Tahmasbi (2009) reported the effect of ultrasound on water softening by ion exchange. Band et al. (1997) proposed a modulated ultrasound application to water desalination with ion-exchange hollow fibers. These reports revealed that ion exchange kinetics could be enhanced by the application of ultrasound. As for hydrometallurgy, Feng and Aldrich (2000) reported that the elution of an ion exchange resin was enhanced by the use of ultrasonication."

The Atlanta Plane Train Tunnel West Extension is being constructed at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport using the Sequential Excavation Method (SEM). The tunnel has shallow ground cover and mixed-face conditions and passes underneath the SkyTrain and MARTA stations and airport terminal buildings. It includes a twin tube Bifurcation with a span of over 45 feet and ground cover of 12 feet. A flat roof is being constructed at the Bifurcation to maximize rock cover and minimize surface settlements. This paper focuses on design and construction challenges for the Bifurcation and tunneling beneath the world’s busiest airport, while minimizing impacts to operations.

This paper provides an overview of the Design Build Project features and highlight some of the important design considerations, features, and innovations, including geologic conditions and related TBM design, and deep shaft and tunnel segment designs. The paper provides the most recent updates on some of the project construction activities including TBM tunnel progress and retrieval schemes, tunnel pump station and deep vertical shaft liner installations, SEM construction, and microtunneling for the longest adit using Fiberglass Reinforced Polymer Mortar pipes.

Salt, a non-metallic mineral whose use dates back to earliest history of mankind, and whose uses cover the widest range for any mineral raw material, is generally of widespread occurrence in commercially recoverable quantities in the oceans, in certain sedimentary rocks, in certain lakes, and in certain underground waters. Passing over geological detail, it may be said that, generally, all of the salt in the world has, at least once in geological history, been in solution in the oceans. The total salt content of today's oceans, said to equal 4.5 million cubic miles of rock salt, dwarfs the tremendous volume of salt in the sedimentary rocks. In 1958, United States production of salt was about 22 million net tons and world production about 82 million. About 3 percent of United States production is table salt, with chemical, municipal, industrial and agricultural uses taking the remainder. Mississippi River. Figure 1 has been expanded sufficiently to show also those salt occurrences and producing points which might economically ship salt into these states. Although widespread in occurrence, salt deposits and possible production areas generally show very sharp local boundaries. Salt-for non-table use is susceptible to ?place value?, a common problem in low valued raw materials, where transportation costs often exceed the value of the material f.o.b. the production point. Generally only large capacity mechanized salt producing operations can compete in United States markets, as contrasted to the many small local salt evaporators in less industrialized Mexico.

Startup of a new plant is a very interesting time. It generally is also a very demanding and often frustrating period. Startup problems can become serious ii they impede the early achievement of full plant production. Raw materials are wasted, manpower is unproductive, field modifications can be extremely expensive and market commitments may not be met. This paper outlines a well proven and highly successful approach to eliminating many of the problems and frustrations often experienced in plant startup. The procedures and methods summarized in the following paragraphs have been developed over a period of 25 years during which some 90 plants were started up.

After almost 60 years of application in this country froth flotation is still by far the most important process for concentrating metallic ores as well as a number of nonmetallic ores including fluorspar, phosphate rock, and potash. Its use on iron ores and coal is increasing. In the metals groups the largest plants and the greatest progress are found in copper and molybdenum mills, and the section of this paper that deals with applications will be found most pertinent to that field. During its long reign the flotation process has passed through several phases of evolution and has achieved progress in economy, efficiency, and simplicity of operation. Much of today's success in the flotation of low-grade ores can be attributed to that progress. Even more important to us than our ability to cope with today's conditions are tomorrow's problems, which we can contemplate with some prescience and confidence. Our annual production of copper, lead, zinc, and molybdenum--to mention only the most important metals occurring in the U.S. as sulphides--must be held at a high level in the face of a declining grade of ore. It is probable that the tonnage of such ores mined and processed will double in this country before the turn of the century. Not only will many of the existing flotation mills be enlarged again and again, but larger mills will be built here and abroad to meet our needs. At this moment, in fact, there are at least three proposed new foreign mills or expansions that envision 100,000 tons daily milling rate on copper ores. INTRODUCTION Section 209(b) of the Federal Land Policy And Management Act of 1976 (FLPMA-43 U.S.C. 1719 b) authorizes the Secretary of the Interior to convey mineral interests owned by the United States where the surface is or will be in non-Federal ownership. The objective is to allow consolidation of surface and subsurface (mineral) ownership. Certain major conditions must prevail for a conveyance to occur. These are: 1) There are no known mineral values (KMV) or 2) Where the mineral reservation interferes with or precludes appropriate non-mineral surface development and that non-mineral development is a more beneficial use of the land than the mineral development. Remember that allegation, hypothesis or speculation that the conditions could or may exist in the future will not be a sufficient basis for conveyance. Convincing factual evidence for an applicant’s case for mineral conveyance must be made in order to achieve that conveyance. See 43 CFR 2720 0-1 to 0-3, and 0-6. CONCEPT OF KNOWN MINERAL VALUES Known mineral values means mineral rights in lands containing geologic formations that are valuable in the monetary sense for exploring, developing, or producing natural mineral deposits. The presence of such mineral deposits with potential for mineral development may be known because of previous exploration, or may be inferred based on geologic information (43-CFR 2720.0-5(b).

Zeta potential changes were determined as a function of pH, metal ion, and surfactant concentrations. Prom the analysis of data, flotation experiments were carried out to correlate float-ability with the differences in zeta potential. Cassiterite in water bears a negative zeta potential, The zeta potential of cassiterite is sensitive to pH changes; the electric double layer arises from the preferential adsorption of H+ and OH- ions and subsequent ionization of the hydroxylated surface. It is suspected that hydronium-ion concentration may cause reversal in the sign of the zeta potential. The ZPC was found to occur at pH 3.4. Metallic ions and the hydrated ions thereof affect the zeta potential of cassiterite in differing degrees of intensity. Without prior activation, sulfonated surfactants do not change the zeta potential of cassiterite. Sodium alkyl aryl sulfonate is especially active on lead-activated cassiterite and ferric-activated cassiteriten Microcalorimetric fiests confimed the activity of ions on cassiterite and showed the hydrated character of cassiterite smfaces. Close correlation between zeta potential and microflotation results was achieved.

This paper presents the details of the Kramer tunnel project in the Federal State of Bavaria, Germany. This road tunnel, which has been under construction since December 2019, is the key component of the western bypass of the town of GarmischPartenkirchen. Once completed, it will relieve the town’s central district from enormous volumes of traffic. The contractor is the joint venture named ARGE Kramertunnel consisting of BeMo Tunnelling and Subterra. The whole project will be completed and handed over to the project owner, Staatliches Bauamt Weilheim, in 2023. The opening of the entire bypass section including the tunnel to traffic is planned for 2024. The tunnel, with a total length of 3,609 m (2.24 miles) and an estimated cost of EUR 178 million (incl. VAT), is designed as a single-tube, double-lane structure with one traffic lane for each direction of travel. The safety issue that exists for single-tube tunnels is solved by a parallel escape tunnel passable for vehicles. All tunnels and ducts are excavated according to the principles of the New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM). In order to reduce the geological risk for the owner, the escape tunnel was supposed to be completed before the design process for the main tunnel ever began. The exploratory tunnel was awarded to a competitor with an separate contract.

INTRODUCTION Chuquicamata mine is a large copper open pit located in the north of Chile. It has been in production for more than 80 years and now is in the later stages of its life with declining grades and increasing haul distances. As any old mine with long established organizations and procedures, it has faced one of the most difficult managerial problems: to conduct changes. Since 1994, the new management team has been devoted to a modernization pro- gram focused mainly in restructuring business operations. downsizing the labor force and introducing a mine planning pro- cess consistent with the company's goal. The explicit identification of the latter issue has been made because of the management’s conviction about the importance of it in the profitability of the business. The mine planning process at Chuquicamata mine has evolved from an old manual technique towards a modern computarized system, however the fundamental aspects and the procedures involved in this process have been the same. For in- stance, the cutoff grades policy has not changed during the last said 20 years, regardless of the changes to grade distribution, commodity prices, plant capacities, etc. To review and rethink this process, the strategy was to work with a small group of inside engineers and the management in order to interact with several mining consulting firms. The idea was to open a discussion about the fundamental principles used in the mine planning activities and, at the same time, to explore new ideas to improve the operating practices that have been followed for a long time. Thus, the goal of this paper is to present the mine planning approach that was the result of this work and the improvements that were obtained. THE CHUQUICAMATA MINE The Chuquicamata division is one of the five operations of Codelco and is currently devoted to operating the Chuquicamata mine; a copper open pit, concentrator, smelting and refining complex. It also operates Mina Sur which consists of an open pit mine, a leaching-solvent extraction and electrowinning process. There is also a dump leaching and a Sx-Ew plant for treating the low grade suifide ore (under the cutoff grade) from the Chuquicamata mine. Prior to reviewing the mine planning process, capacities for the Chuquicamata sulfide line were 640 000 tpd of run of mine material, 160 000 tpd of ore and 4 200 tpd of concentrate. This meant a total annual movement of around 230 Mt in the mine and a treatment of 57 Mt in the concentrator with a stripping ratio of approximately 3: 1. The old exploitation strategy consisted of an "open scheme", which means that all benches must have a berm with enough space to allow the traffic of large haulage trucks. This fact implied working with a great flexibility, but the consequences were flat slope angles. One of the reasons for using this operating practice in short term planning was that the grade consistency from the pit has always been a controversial variable. Schedules were designed to meet grade targets accurately and they were modified immediately when deviations become apparent. This reality led to working with a great deal of independent pushbacks and it required flexibility in the traffic system. The cutoff grade policy has been the same for a long time and the figure was 0.5 %CUT either for sulfide or oxide ore. This was the reason why a balance was produced between the mine and the concentrator. The mine is operated principally with benches of 26 m but in the upper part of the pit there are benches of 24 and 30 m. The main production equipment is shovels of 28 and 34 yd3 along with trucks of 200 and 240 st. Regarding the crushing facilities, there are two main systems located inside the pit and an old one in the periphery, close to a stockpile and near the concentrator. In the north part of the pit there is a crusher for waste material and in the north-east area is located the ore crusher facility. Both restrict a significant area of the pit and the mine sequence is considering to move the ore crusher again to the south-east sector where it used to be located. Relating to the waste crusher, the idea is to move it up to a bench near the surface in order to use the same conveyor belt and, at the same time, liberate an important sector. THE MINE PLANNING PROCESS The objective of the mine planning process is to develop a mine plan for the life of the deposit, in harmony and consistent with the company's goal. It includes the origin and destiny of tonnages and grades from the mine(s), along with the necessary resources to carry out this plan such as: fleet requirement, consumable goods, manpower, etc. From the financial point of view, it means to establish the cash flow for each time period of the mine life. That is. the revenue, capital investment and operating cost associated with each period of the plan. The fundamental principles involved in the mine planning pro- cess have been a controversial issue for a long time. One of the reasons for these divergent views could be produced by the difficulty of modeling a complete extraction policy for a geological re- source. This particular problem has to deal with several decision variables that are time dependent. So far, there is no mathematical formulation for managing such a problem, and the approach to solve it is based on a circular analysis combined with certain heuristic tools. So, a global model rather than a formula, requires a clear understanding of mine operations as well as economic theory and its application to a non-renewable resource. In order to manage this complex problem, the mine planning process can be conveniently split off in three stages which are conceptual, feasibility and operational planning. The characteristics of each stage are basically the timeliness in which they are developed and the kind and number of variables involved. "INTRODUCTION Cyanide heap leaching of gold ores in areas with extremely low winter temperatures requires special considerations to prevent freezing of the leach solution. Factors that impact the solution temperature include ore temperature at the time of stacking and during operation, burial of drip irrigation lines, use of geomembrane covers, and heating of the leach solution. Thermodynamic modeling was performed to simulate expected ore and solution temperatures under different operating strategies for Kaminak Gold’s Coffee Gold project in the Yukon Territory. Mean monthly temperatures at the site ranged from a low of -22.5oC to a high of 13.6oC, while in situ ore temperatures ranged from -0.5 to about -1.5oC. The modeling results were used to optimize the operational parameters and indicated that a combination of drip line burial and heating of the leach solution during the winter months was required to maintain solution temperatures above freezing during the initial years of stacking, although as the size of the heap increased, heating was no longer necessary. MODELING OBJECTIVES The successful operation of a cyanide heap leach under extremely cold winter temperatures requires the implementation of operational strategies to prevent freezing of the leach solution and the ore within the heap. Thermodynamic modeling of the heap provides the means to quantify the effectiveness of these different operational parameters on maintaining the required operating temperatures to avoid freezing within the heap. The operational parameters that were evaluated with the model included: • Burial depth of irrigation lines to prevent freezing during the winter months; • Variation in the temperature of the applied leach solution (to simulate heating of recirculated solution); • Variation in the rate of irrigation including seasonal variations between winter and summer months; • Seasonal versus year-round stacking of ore (to simulate the impact of the initial temperature of each ore layer as it is stacked); • Seasonal versus year-round crushing and stockpiling of ore, including the option to stockpile ore on the leach pad in the winter (i.e. stack but not leach fresh ore in winter); • Start date for seasonal stacking; • Variation of the heap geometry over time (both vertical and lateral expansion) and the associated heat storage within the heap; • Use of thermal covers (gravel or geomembrane) over the ore during the winter months; and • Effect of crush size on heat loss during crushing, stockpiling and stacking."

Kaiser Aluminum & Chemical Corporation's (KACC) entrance into the alumina market began in 1946 with the purchase of a small plant in Baton Rouge. Louisiana. Since that time KACC has been involved with the design, construct; on, and operation of many alumina plants around the world. One of these plants is located in Gramercy, Louisiana. The Gramercy Works is a multiplant installation consisting of an alumina plant, a caustic-chlorine plant, a petroleum coke calciner and a fluorochemicals plant. Each of these plants require their own specific environmental control programs to abate pollution. Kaiser has made significant progress through the years on their own initiative in pollution control. But many new challenges have been and continue to be created with the enactment of environmental laws. The 1970 Clean Air Act Amendments, the resurrection of the old "Refuse Act" in 1970 and finally the 1972 Federal Water Pollution Control Act Amendments prompted the formulation of our current philosophy towards the abatement of pollution. Since the formulation of these complicated pieces of legislation, others equally complicated, have come to being. The Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act as amended by the Federal Environmental Pesticide Control Act of October, 1972, the Toxic Substances Control Act of 1976, the Solid Waste Disposal and Resource Recovery Act of 1976 and the Safe Drinking Water Act sighed in December of 1974 have all contributed to the challenge for an alumina plant to meet regulatory constraints. However, this paper will only discuss the alumina plant?s environmental programs designed to meet compliance with air and water pollution legislation. At the Gramercy Alumina Plant, over $25 million has been spent for pollution control since 1969. The Gramercy Plant is a prime example of KACC's commitment to meeting the environmental challenge.

Coal is America's most abundant energy resource. Therefore, it IS logical to assume that coal must be produced in much greater quantifies in order to make the United States self-sufficient, as far as energy is concerned by 1985. However, there are a number of obstacles which have to be overcome in order to achieve such a great task. According to one of the most outspoken American Mining men, there are three major obstacles. Those are: (1 ) Mining technology (2) Public image of the coal mining industry (3) Governmental policy toward the mining industry The following will be dealing with Shortwall Mining, which is a very specific part of mining technology and which might influence the image of the coal mining industry as well as the governmental guidelines, at least to make it easier to live with those guidelines. During recent years the operation of coal mines has been more expensive than ever. Since 1970, the cost of producing coal increased by 30% and the productivity dropped by just about the same amount. Those are alarming signs.

By 1968 Cyprus Pima was milling 38,000 tpd of copper ore using a conventional flowsheet consisting of three stages of crushing rod mills and ball mills. A 15,000 tpd expansion was put on stream late in 1971 using primary crushing, semiautogenous mills, and ball mills. Identical ore is treated in both concentrators. This paper shows the weight and life of each individual liner for each crusher and each mill over a four year period from 1974-1977. Power and media consumption are shown for the same period and a comparison is made between the two reduction methods.

The movement of solids by pipeline is an art dating back well over 100 years as evidenced by many references in the literature. Even though all of the early pipeline transport systems were based on trial and error and relied mainly upon the designer's experience, hydraulic transport offered distinct advantages in convenience or cost for the chemical, mining, and civil engineering industries. It became well established for in-plant process lines, dredging, waste disposal, and other uses almost exclusively for short distances. During more recent times, much research work has been done in an attempt to understand the underlying principles involved in transporting solids in a fluid. Design criteria for pumping slurries have evolved to the point where pipelines designed for distances of several miles to several hundred miles can be accomplished successfully. Consolidation Coal Company designed and built a 10-inch diameter 108-mile long line1 for transporting coal in the 1950's and operated it from 1957 to 1963 when it was placed in mothballs because of falling freight rates for rail shipment. More recently, the 273-mile Black Mesa Pipeline2 was built and is operating. There are other examples of long distance pipelines,3 but all are for specially prepared fine slurries which allow the pipeline to be operated more economically.

Commercial production of heavy minerals from plant tailings streams is undergoing study by Syncrude Canada Lrd. When tar sand from an open pit mine is processed and up- graded to synthetic crude oil, heavy minerals can be recovered from the extraction circuit and can be upgraded to provide concentrates of zircon and titanium minerals. The titanium minerals concentrate consisting of a mixture of ilmenite, leucoxene and rutile, could be utilized as recovered or could be upgraded to synthetic rutile. With the construction of further synthetic crude oil plants in Western Canada a large reserve of heavy minerals will become available for utilization.
