Efficiently controlling foam/froth within mineral processing continues to pose a challenge to the mining sector. The foaming characteristics of aqueous solutions for two-phase systems of air/liquid are well-studied with theories and mechanisms proposed to describe and predict foam formation and stability. The types and structures of reagents that either promote or prevent foaming/froth formation and stability are well-defined in these studies and practiced across various applications. Three-phase systems of air/liquid/solid, such as froth from mineral slurries, however, pose a challenge with the presence of a large quantity of relatively fine mineral particles. Theories and mechanisms that rationalise the effects of chemical additives as a defoamer or foaming agent in aqueous can be applied as a general rule, but do not provide the most effective solution for mineral slurry systems. Silicone-based defoamers, particularly their O/W emulsions, have been widely and successfully used at various stages of mineral processing to efficiently control the mineral slurry foaming properties. However, their foaming control ability could be significantly impacted by different processing aids used during the upstream process. In a zinc-rich mineral system, a silicone-based defoamer starts losing the properties necessary to effectively control foaming in the leaching circuit when throughput is increased. In this study, the synergistic defoaming/anti-foaming effects from surfactants and silicone-based defoamers are discussed to effectively control foaming/froth in the zinc leaching circuit, even with lower total defoamer dosage. Improvements during mineral processing can also lead to a cleaner mineral grade by reducing waste.

Advances in technology now allow geotechnical practitioners to better describe the properties and variability of a rock mass through advances in surface and underground mapping, borehole technology and geophysical imaging. Yet the way in which practitioners use this data is not being realised to its full potential and the quality and quantity of data that is collected is often superior to the conventional design approaches that are typically adopted. A discrete fracture network (DFN) approach provides the ideal basis for using this data to generate geologically-realistic rock mass models based on parameters derived from field data, which more effectively capture the variability and rock mass behaviour. However, until recently, the DFN approach has mainly been applied to cave mining and small-scale models associated with synthetic rock mass modelling or groundwater flow modelling for the nuclear waste and oil and gas industries.Ground support design for blocky rock masses in Australia is often dealt with in a rather traditional manner, adopting either an observational empirical approach through rock mass classification systems or conventional wedge stability analysis techniques. Using these methods requires several generalised assumptions about the rock mass fabric and excavation geometry. As such, the support system is often designed for a worst-case scenario based on a predetermined risk tolerance that the mine is willing to accept and a design block size that is generally determined by the proposed excavation dimension.A study by Doumis (2014) used conventional wedge stability analysis and the probabilistic key block analysis software JBlock (Esterhuizen, 1996) to estimate potential block sizes and support requirements. A DFN approach has also been adopted at Callie underground mine using FracMan™ software (Golder Associates, 2014). "Establishing ventilation in the early stages of a new mine is an essential step to achieve scheduled outcomes that ultimately drive the financial success of an operation. If the primary ventilation is not in place in time to support a contractorÆs work output, then the ore delivery is likely to be severely impacted. Options to increase ventilation in order to address shortfalls are limited. This in turn can lead to reduced revenue generation at a time when a mine is at its highest capital outlay. This can have implications for any company, but even more for an explorer moving to producer. The ventilation put in place to cover the start-up period is also unlikely to cover any extended or increased load required to meet schedule delays.The following paper examines two issues in relation to ventilation with a focus on small to medium projects where the company is establishing a mine using a mining contractor. The issues being: potential impacts on the contract and tender process when using a mining contractor key mine design considerations, such as æcrunch timeÆ, as they interact with ventilation achieving a successful ramp up.A recommendation is made for higher levels of detail around secondary ventilation leading up to the primary fan installation. The information should be included as part of the tendering process and preliminary project execution planning. Understanding the æcrunch timeÆ concept can lead to strategies, as well as back up plans, to minimise any negative impact.By understanding key risks around primary ventilation establishment for a new mine, detailed design work can be completed where it is needed most. Value is added by reducing uncertainty and a payback with better contract terms and a more robust ramp up plan. Situated in north-west Queensland, Australia, the Ernest Henry Mine (EHM) has been producing copper and gold since 1996. Owned and operated by Glencore Xstrata, ore is currently sourced from a newly developed underground sublevel cave (SLC) mine below the old EHM open pit (the pit). Ore feed to the concentrator is supplemented by satellite open pits comprising the Mount Margaret operation.The transition from open pit to a producing underground mine involved a complex extraction sequence for the first two production sublevels on RL1650 and RL1625. Underground mining during cave initiation was further complicated when south wall instability prevented completion of the final open pit shell. The transition mining phase included mass firing of an inclined crown pillar between the initial SLC void and the pit followed by a combination of transverse and longitudinal SLC mining.The inclined crown pillar mass firing was the first significant milestone in the extraction of the transition ore block. Comprising approximately 890 000 t of in situ material; 70 000 m of drilling was charged with 351 t of emulsion and 6026 electronic detonators to initiate the single mass firing. The firing contained five direction changes over 19 seconds making it one of the largest and most complex underground blasts ever conducted in Australia.Risk management was integrated into every facet of the technical and operational planning and execution of the transition mining phase, whilst maintaining daily mine construction and production commitments. The Amacan Copper Project was constructed in the Philippines by a Finnish-Filipino Consortium during the years 1979 - 1982. The project involved a turnkey contract for a mine and a concentrator to process 25 000 tonne per day of porphy- ritic copper ore at a grade of 0.45% Cu. The orebody is located on Mindanao, the southernmost island of the Philippines, in rugged, mountainous terrain approximately 1 000 m above sea level. The adopted design principle was based on an efficient, straightforward installation utilising a minimum number of items of equipment each with high unit capacities. The consortium faced many problems which resulted in lengthy delays in construction and finally led to the client taking over responsibility for the completion of the project. The concentrator was successfully commissioned in July 1982.

The spatial variability of geometallurgical characteristics in a mineral deposit can have significant impact on financial and mine planning, mineral processing, concentrate quality and tailings composition throughout the life of a project. These characteristics that may determine the success of a project are not readily apparent to geologists unless they are integrated with deposit geology and assay data, modelled in 3D and incorporated into resource block models.One of the primary objectives of geometallurgy is to integrate and incorporate various geologic, geotechnical and geometallurgical parameters into resource block models, which typically are limited to in situ tonnes and grade of economic metals. Critical attributes, such as concentration of deleterious elements that affect the project viability need to be identified and integrated into the resource block model early in the exploration stage to predict project profitability and address potential environmental impacts.Using data from a volcanogenic massive sulfide deposit we present an example of the integration of ore geochemistry (cadmium, arsenic and antimony) with the results of preliminary, bench-scale metallurgical test work in a 3D geometallurgical model that predicts subdomains of poor-quality concentrate and tailings containing environmentally-sensitive elements. This critical information was incorporated into the existing resource block model in order to inform both financial modelling and mine planning.This example demonstrates that geometallurgical data can be effectively integrated with geological and assay data using Leapfrog MiningTM software (Leapfrog Mining) early in the exploration stage of a project. Three-dimensional representations of geometallurgical data can be created directly using primary additive data, as well as from proxies of non-additive parameters. Resource block models can be updated continually with new information as the project passes from exploration through production. In addition, the software allows for 3D visualisation of the characteristics of the materials that will eventually constitute the mill concentrate, tailings, and waste. This study emphasises the critical importance of establishing a systematic geometallurgical approach early in the exploration stage that can be continuously updated with new information throughout the life of the project. In the example that we present, sulfide ore that had otherwise been identified as high-value (in the absence of geochemical and metallurgical data) turns out to be low-value ore due to concentrate penalties and increased environmental impact.

A simple gravimetric procedure was developed for the rapid determination of carbon dioxide in coal mine roadway dust samples and the result is used for the subsequent calculation of incombustible matter contentaccording to the requirements of the Queensland Coal Mining Act. The carbon dioxide is determined through loss of mass by a semi-enclosed apparatus, following room-temper.ature hydrochloric acid attack on the sample.With a sample containing 36 per cent carbon dioxide, the achieved standard deviation (ls) of 0·3 per cent CO. is adequate for coal mine roadway dust analysis.This simple procedure enables relatively unskilled labour in mine laboratories, to analyze coal mine roadway dust samples in accordance with the Act. Some 50 analyses can be achieved per day compared with 8 by the Australian Standard Method for coal.

Detrital iron deposits (‘DID’) in the Hamersley Province of Western Australia have been successfully mined and processed as small quantities of saleable standalone or blended lump and fine ore products over many decades. Despite their past, present, and potential future exploitation, they have received far less geological attention than the economically more significant higher grade bedded iron deposits (BID) or channel iron deposits (CID). DID are composed of Pliocene to Quaternary unconsolidated colluvial/alluvial hematite gravels with minor sand, silt, and ferruginous clay, as well as minor iron rich hematite clast conglomerates. DID mineralisation at Solomon has been subdivided into six distinct stratigraphic units, DID-5 (lowermost) to DID-0 (uppermost) based on differences in clast and matrix textures and mineralogy, degree of consolidation/lithification, particle size distribution and replacement textures. The most significant accumulations of DID-1 to DID-5 are in tributary valleys that have been cut through the Joffre Member of the Brockman Iron Formation on either side of the main Kings-Queens valley which contains the CID. DID-5 and DID-4 are ferruginous conglomerate, referred to as canga, with four subtypes recognised. DID-4 is composed of BID hematite clasts cemented by hematite or goethite. DID-5 is characterised by partial to complete replacement of BID hematite clasts and matrix by the yellow ochreous and brown to black vitreous forms of goethite. DID-3 to DID-0 are unconsolidated hematite detritals composed of largely (>80 weight per cent) fine to coarse gravel, minor sand and little silt or clay. The gravel clasts are largely composed of hematite and hydrohematite that replace BID, micro-nanoplaty hematite-martite-ochreous goethite (m-nplH-M-oG) BID, reworked canga, hematite pisoids, siliceous hematite BID (micro-nanoplaty hematite-martite-quartz, m-nplH-M-quartz), chert (~10–20 per cent) and minor (<5 per cent) Banded Iron Formation (BIF). Hematite abundance decreases from DID-3 to DID-0 whilst siliceous hematite BID is highest in abundance in DID-0 and lowest in DID-3. A key finding of the study is that >90 per cent of mineralised detrital clasts are derived from hypogene altered BID micro-nanoplaty hematite-martite with subsequent later supergene ochreous goethite mineralisation hosted by the Joffre Member. The DID genesis model entails interpreted Palaeoproterozoic siliceous hematite hypogene microplaty BID mineralisation of the Joffre Member undergoing Cenozoic supergene leaching of quartz and replacement by ochreous goethite to form low phosphorous BID micro-nanoplaty hematite-martite-ochreous goethite clasts. BID martitenanoplaty hematite-martite-ochreous goethite clasts and detritus eroded from hill slopes were deposited in the valleys as an initial single DID-5-DID-4 unit over a weathered pre-CID basal conglomerate. DID-5 and DID-4 underwent goethite cementation of the matrix followed by replacement by hydrohematite, hematite, and maghemite. DID-3 formed during subsequent periods of erosion of largely DID-4 hematite clasts and pisoids. Groundwater flow-through hematite canga resulted in partial to complete hydration replacement of DID-4 hematite clasts and matrix by ochreous and vitreous goethite to form DID-5. Deposition of DID-2 to DID-0 was via reworking and deposition of DID-5 to DID-4 canga and DID-3 as clasts and pisoids/ooids, as well as siliceous hematite and BIF sourced from the Joffre Member in the hill slopes.

The Ernest Henry Iron Oxide Copper Gold deposit is hosted in a large dilation between two moderately dipping shear zones found in the footwall and hanging wall of the deposit. These shears are controlled by a large diorite intrusion to the north-east and south-west of the deposit, formed ~1660 Ma. A shear zone dubbed the ‘Interlens’ uncovered through underground workings truncates the main orebody into two lenses, and is hypothesized to have formed in conjunction with the Hanging Wall Shear Zone and Footwall Shear Zone. All three shears dip moderately to the SSE (50–140) from open cut exposures through to the current mining horizon approximately 800 m below the surface. Routine geological work and a capital drilling campaign has identified a significant flexure in these sub parallel ore bounding shears with increasing depth. A shift in shear orientation in the Interlens over approximately 100 m vertically from ~50° to the SSE to a steep, easterly trend (~85° to the east) is observed in both drill core and exposures in the underground workings. It is hypothesized the diorite intrusive to the south-west of the deposit controls the shear zone geometries at depth. The geometry of the Interlens mirrors the surface expression of the Proterozoic package of the orebounding shears to the south-west of the deposit, suggesting the surface geometries of the shear zones are consistent with depth. Additional drilling to explore the validity of this hypothesis is planned for the near future to better understand the structural controls on the Ernest Henry mineralisation with increasing depth.

Historical research has played a significant role in the rebirth of the Bendigo Goldfield. The historical research undertaken by the company has been directed to specific areas such as verifying the total gold production of the field, the gold production from defined blocks on each of the major anticlines, the extent of workings of each mine which exceeded 200 m depth, the size and style of reefs mined in each shaft and also within specific domains of the field. Application of this data has assisted in the determination of possible dimensions of different reef styles and the location of mineralisation within each reef system. Description of grade variation, percentage of quartz and the amount and species of accessory sulphide minerals, as well as early geotechnical observations accompanying stoping methodologies, provides valuable analogues for reef structure being defined in the current program. Historical information on shafts on the two anticlines the company is exploring has allowed the postulation and recognition of repetition of reef development within the same stratigraphy in the hinge zones of the adjacent folds. The similarities of mineralisation styles across the field within both specific lithological units and structural setting has had important implications in respect to exploration drill targeting and the estimation of grade and tonnes.

The optimisation and validation of shearer cutting methods is a time consuming engineering task. Many different parameters, of which not all can be controlled, can vary. The easiest solution, to increase the installed power and the longwall length, is not always the best. A different cutting method can increase the capacity without the need of new machines. The Department for Mining and Metallurgy Machinery at RWTH Aachen University therefore developed ProSL, the simulation tool for shearer and longwall operations. ProSL enables the engineer to create his own cutting methods and compare it with other methods. Machine-data can easily be varied to see the impact on the method. The research shows that sophisticated longwall methods increase the productivity of the system. The paper presents the results of the calculation with ProSL and shows how higher efficiency and lower costs can be achieved.

"An EXTENDED ABSTRACT is available for download. A full-length paper was not prepared for this presentation. Numerous Fe-Cu-Au-rare earth element (REE) deposits have been identified within the Palaeoproterozoic Dongchuan Group of the Kangdian region of SW China. Geochronologic and geochemical data of the dolerite dykes and other volcanic rocks reveal extensional activity occurred about 1.7 Ga called ‘Kunyang Rifting’. The Kangdian region underwent variable degrees of extension, meaning that breakup in the central part of this region occurred earlier than in the north. Research on microphysiography, isotopic geochemistry and inclusions of the Yinachang typical Fe-Cu-Au-REE deposits suggest that the dominant mineralisation fluid is high-temperature, high-salinity magma fluid, containing alkalic components, volatile phase and Cu-Au. Metasomatism and mixing between this magmatic fluid and carbonaceous wall rock and meteoric water caused the precipitation of Fe, REEs and Cu-Au. A chalcopyrite Re-Os age from the Yinachang deposit obtained during this study is some 50–100 million years younger than the timing of emplacement of the deeply sourced Haizi and Dongchuan dolerites. The Yinachang deposit is a typical iron oxide-copper-gold (IOCG)-type deposit, and the presence of this and other deposits in the Kangdian region indicates that the region hosts an intraplate extension-related IOCG system within the western edge of the Yangtze Block, China.CITATION:Hou, L, Ding, J, Zhang, J R, Zhu, S B, Wu, S Y and Peng, H J, 2015. In less than a year, Atlas Iron’s Corunna Downs Project has moved from a new discovery to a substantial resource of high quality in an underexplored greenstone belt. Located approximately 170 km south-east of Port Hedland and 40 km south-west of Marble Bar, in the Pilbara Region of Western Australia, Atlas Iron Ltd (Atlas) has conducted extensive exploration work at Split Rock, Razorback, Runway and Shark Gully, consisting of geophysical surveying, field mapping, 464 reverse circulation and 16 diamond drill holes resulting in a current resource of 51 Mt at 57.3 per cent Fe (Atlas, 2014b).The Corunna Downs Project is interpreted to be hosted within the Cleaverville Formation of the Archaean Gorge Creek Group. Within the project area these rocks outcrop as subvertically dipping banded iron-formations (BIFs) and jaspilites, cherts, minor shales and meta-sediments forming a north–south trending plateau.Primary hematite-martite iron mineralisation is overprinted in the near surface environment by supergene goethite, and frequently capped with a thin laterite cover. The strongest enrichment areas have been discovered within topographic lows, proximal to fault zones, which coincide with a geophysical anolmaly. These characteristics were targeted, and the subsequent areas mapped in greater detail, allowing for efficient resource definition.Although first explored for iron in the late 1960s, it wasn’t until Atlas’ acquisition of the project in October 2012, that major strides were made to defining an economic resource. At present, Corunna Downs is Atlas’ best greenfields exploration discovery, both in terms of the potential scale of the resource and its blending capacity.The Corunna Downs prospect is emerging as a major new iron ore province in the Pilbara and includes 80 km of potential host stratigraphy. Most 3D geological modelling tools were designed for the needs of the oil industry or detailed mine planning and are not suited to the variety of situations encountered in other application domains. Moreover, the usual modelling tools are not able to quantify the uncertainty of the geometric models generated. The potential field method was designed to build 3D geological models from data available in geology and mineral exploration, namely the geological map and a digital terrain model (DTM), structural data, borehole data and interpretations of the geologist. This method considers a geological interface as a particular isosurface of a scalar field defined in the 3D space, called a potential field. The interpolation of that field, based on cokriging, provides surfaces that honour all the data. The 3D model and its parts are always consistent with the observations. New developments allow the covariance of the potential field to be identified from the structural data. This makes it possible to associate sensible cokriging standard deviations to the potential field estimates and to express the uncertainty of the geometric model. It also, for the first time, gives a statistically optimal, geologically sound way of interpolating geology, other than directly joining the dots as you do with CAD. Practical implementation issues for producing 3D geological models are presented: how to handle faults, how to honour borehole ends, how to take relationships between several interfaces into account, how to model thin beds over many kilometres, how to optimise lithological properties and how to integrate gravimetric and magnetic data. We describe all geology surfaces and volumes using implicit functions. These are then rendered onto the required sections, plans, etc. The estimation of orebody grades and tonnes, using an unbiased and optimal geostatistical technique, makes use of the stratigraphically bound 3D geology model. An application to the geological modelling of the Hamersley iron ore district, Australia, is briefly presented.

The Iron Magnet deposit has been mined since 2007 when Arrium (then OneSteel) commissioned the magnetite concentrator to supply feed to the pelletising plant in Whyalla. The concentrate quality requirement for the customer required consistent product with minimal variability. In the early stages of operation, it was identified that the feed variability introduced significant changes in the concentrate quality, which was outside the acceptable customer limits.In 2011, a geometallurgical regression model was developed that allowed for the estimation of concentrate quality produced from the feed material. This was based on a laboratory-scale Davis Tube Recovery (DTR) test performed on the feed material. The objective of the project was to characterise the raw ore in the pit to allow for blending prior to crushing. By blending the feed to the concentrator, minimal concentrate quality variation within the plant was achieved. The orebody was divided into geometallurgical classes, called ore types, based on the mineral texture and magnetic mass recovery. Each geometallurgical class consisted of material with similar metallurgical performances. For each individual blast pattern, the ore was grouped into the geometallurgical classes and a composite sample was created. The composite sample was put through the laboratory-scale DTR test and the results were used to estimate the metallurgical performance of the material.The characterisation process and feed pile build methodology was applied in early 2013 and went through an optimisation and streamlining phase. Since the implementation of the geometallurgical characterisation process, the plant has seen a significant reduction in concentrate variability and measurable throughput gains. One of the main energy efficiency opportunities identified from the majority of mine site energy audits is to optimize the comminution circuit to reduce energy consumption through improved throughput and product size distribution. Typical analysis reviews comminution process efficiency/inefficiency i.e. utilization of grinding mills, process bottlenecks and product vs. target size, to identify instances of overgrinding or undergrinding. From this, it is possible to establish the potential improvement that could be gained through formal plant optimization and what the optimization program would entail. It can also sometimes reveal immediate opportunities for process improvement. This paper presents steps that can be taken to optimize the efficiency of comminution circuits.

Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF) prevention remains a priority focus within high-risk industries sector. A major mining operation sought to strengthen their approach to the management of high-risk activities through an in-depth review of all historical incidents that had serious injury or fatality potential (SIFp) events (sometimes known as hi-potential events). The analysis found that the organisation invested a disproportionate level of resources, time and effort on low consequence incidents with a high proportion of SIFp incidents going under the radar. It was found that 76 per cent of SIFp incidents were rated in moderate or lower risk categories and conversely, almost half of those incidents with a ‘serious risk’ rating had little or no potential for a serious outcome. As a result of this project, the operation engaged in a renewed focus on critical risk management and enhanced its operating cadence in critical risk for the workforce. This included bow tie analysis, an update to critical risk standards and increased workforce engagement in the use of critical control verifications in the field. Data analytics with lead and lag indicators continue to provide senior leadership team and risk owners with an understanding of exposure for SIFp and control effectiveness. The audience will take away learnings from a real-world case study that provides data-driven insights of the human, local and organisational factors contributing to incidents with SIF potential. The gas dispersion properties that are the subjects of this communication include three measured parameters, gas superficial velocity (gas rate), gas holdup and bubble size, plus derived parameter, bubble surface area flux. Over the past ten years sensors to measure these parameters have been introduced and those originating from McGill University are briefly described. The sensors have seen extensive use in plant campaigns and experiences on four cell types at three sites are discussed. The impact of frother in controlling bubble size by retarding coalescence is illustrated, introducing the need to understand chemistry/machine interactions in interpreting gas dispersion results. An increase in Sauter mean bubble size (D32) with superficial gas velocity (gas rate, Jg) was found, which followed the empirical relationship where Do ~ 0.5 - 0.6 mm and C and n are fitted parameters dependent on the system (machine and chemistry). Following this trend in Db - Jg, consistent bubble surface area flux (Sb) - Jg trends are also observed. The trend in Sauter mean versus number mean (D10) is used to help interpret the nature of the distribution; as the means approach numerically, the distribution is narrowing. Analysing gas holdup versus gas rate shows both a dependence on location in the cell as well as cell position in a bank, factors which must be accounted for when comparing data from different plants and circuits. The instrumentation and methodologies being developed are presenting new opportunities for incorporating cell hydrodynamics into metallurgical diagnostics. A case study at one plant serves as illustration.

The exploration industry generally has a low opinion of the quality of the service supplied to it by government departments. In particular, the academic research-related emphasis of the Bureau of Mineral Resources (BMR) and the relatively low level of explora- tion assistance offered by several Mines Departments are of concern. In a number of areas of geoscience research, the industry perceives a mixup of priorities and a lack of understanding on the part of governments as to its needs. While government&apos;s sights are, and should be, set on the future needs of the community at large, the industry doubts that government budget allocations to the BMR and Mines Departments are either large enough or being cost-effectively spent. This is certainly the case for such areas as exploration assist- ance, provision of basic exploration data, and applied geoscientific research. On balance, the exploration industry&apos;s perceptions are misguided in a number of respects because of a lack of communication with government. However, this reinforces the need for changes in the manner in which govern- ment departments communicate with industry and, in particular, the criteria upon which research priorities are based. At a time of contracting oil and mineral exploration expenditure, and near-record levels of geoscientist unemployment, the government&apos;s role is critical and should be open to question.

The Cliffs Nickel Mine extracts a narrow near vertical nickel vein using a mining method of underhand bench stoping with paste backfill. In 2014, at a depth of 400 m below surface, the Northern block of the mine began to experience squeezing within ore development. At first the deformation was localised, within 30 m of the stoping front, but later became pervasive extending across the Northern block and resulting in a hiatus in mine production. The global mechanism is a progressive pillar failure, where the inter-level pillars in advance of the production front could no longer withstand the induced load and progressively yielded. The local mechanism of failure was observed as crushing of the massive sulphide ore and ‘punching’ of the pillars into the ultramafic hangingwall exhibited as floor and sidewall dilation and unravelling of the mafic footwall. The cause of the global mechanism was attributed to a combination of factors, including: high overall extraction ratio, small vertical pillar heights between ore development, high stress in relation to the low rock mass strength, shallow stope front angle, and insufficient ground support capacity. Following the progressive failure, the remnant rock mass conditions across the northern block were severely degraded, with numerous falls of ground that led to a reassessment of the mine plan. Recovery of the Northern block started in 2016 as a staged process. Development of the safe recovery work methodology involved a number of considerations, such as: production sequencing, development access design, ground support, and development of specific procedural controls. The Northern block was then broken into smaller mining precincts based on tactical factors such as location, ease of access, scale of rock mass damage and nickel content. A specific ground support standard and work methodology are employed, while cycle sheets are used to ensure quality and completeness of work. Large intersections showing signs of deformation have either been bypassed or treated using Rocprops to maintain stability during stope production. This approach has been successful in safely regaining access and restarting production in areas that had previously been removed from the mining reserve.
