A metallurgical/flux is a substance that is added to combine with gangue (unwanted minerals) during ore smelting, with impurities in a molten metal, or with other additives in metal refining processes to form a slag that can be separated from the metal. Because slags are immiscible with the metallic melt and are of lower density, a separation of the slag and metal occurs if the viscosity and surface tension are of the proper values. The chemistries of slags are adjusted to provide the proper melting point, viscosity, surface tension, conductivity, specific heat, density, or chemical properties to effect the desired task. In addition to absorbing impurities from the metal, the purposes of the slag are to thermally insulate the metal bath, protect the molten metal from the atmosphere, and control the chemical potential of the system. Several excellent references on slags and metallurgical fluxes are available (Boynton, 1980, Lankford, Jr., et al., 1985, Turkdogan, 1983, Rosenqvist, 1974, Fine and Gaskell, 1984). The function of the slag might vary at different stages within a process prior to final melting. For example, the slag composition and behavior will change as materials descend in the iron blast furnace, or as they melt in the early stages of formation of steel- making slags. Selection of the chemistry for a slag might be influenced by factors outside the primary function as when blast furnace slags are used to make cement, rock wool insulation, or fertilizer supplements. Sometimes slags contain a sufficient amount of valuable recoverable elements to be sold as raw materials for other processes. Fluxes are often referred to as acid, basic, or neutral. Acid fluxes are those that generally form acids in water and bases are those that would generally form bases in water. Typical acid fluxes are silica, alumina, and phosphorus, although alumina can function as either an acid or base. Typical basic fluxes are lime and magnesia. Fluorspar, or calcium fluoride, is a neutral substance because it can be viewed as the reaction product of a base and an acid. The degree of acidity (ratio of acids to bases) or basicity (ratio of bases to acids) is often specified to characterize the slag chemistry for a particular system. The system might also be referred to as acid or basic depending on the choice of slag, for example, basic steelmaking uses slags with more bases (lime and magnesia) than acids (silica and alumina). Many forms of minerals and compounds have been used as fluxes depending on the process requirements, availability, costs, requirements for recycling of intermediate products, and environmental concerns. Because slags are most often mixtures of oxides and silicates, fluxes are usually oxides, carbonates (which decompose to oxides) and silicates. Slags comprising phosphates, borates, sulfides, carbides, or halides have also been used (Rosenqvist, 1974, Moore, 1981, Szekely et al., 1989). In ironmaking and steelmaking, some acidic components are sometimes added. In nonferrous processes slags and fluxes are acidic with silica as the primary component, and although the use of basic flux such as limestone or lime is not extensive, some amount is used to modify slag properties and some refining slags are lime based. The production of iron is accomplished by smelting of ores, pellets, and sinter in blast furnaces with subsequent refining of molten iron and scrap in oxygen-blown processes. The electric furnace is used to make steel, stainless steels, ferroalloys, and special alloys, whereas ferromanganese is often made in blast furnaces. Fluxes are used in all of these processes, and either limestone or lime is the major flux component with some dolomite, dolomitic lime, silica, alumina, and fluorspar being used. In ironmaking, the flux is added either by direct charging or through sinter and fluxed pellets. In steel refining by the basic oxygen process, flux is added as lime and dolomitic lime that are either charged as lumps or injected as fines. Some small amount of limestone is sometimes used. Fluorspar is often added as lumps or mixed with other fine materials in briquettes. Alumina is sometimes added to blast furnaces either by direct charging of sized lumps or through sinter. Typical acid fluxes are sand, gravel, quartz rock, used silica brick, or raw siliceous ore (Lankford, Jr., et al., 1985). Olivine, which is a magnesium-silicate mineral, has been added to iron blast furnaces to enhance removal of alkalis (Lankford, Jr., et al., 1985). Alumina in the form of bauxite, aluminiferous clay, and recycled alumina brick has been used as flux. Alumina can function amphoterically as either an acid or base, for example it can form aluminum silicate in high silica slags or calcium aluminate in lime-bearing slags (Lankford, Jr., et al., 1985). Limestone (calcium carbonate) and dolomite (magnesium-calcium carbonate), or fluxstones as they are sometimes called (Boynton, 1980), and their calcined forms, lime and dolomitic lime are the major basic fluxes. In the latter cases, the carbonates are de- composed in a kiln-type process to drive off carbon dioxide that might otherwise interfere with the subsequent smelting or refining process or require expensive forms of energy to effect the decomposition (e.g., by combustion of coke in the iron blast furnace). Limestone is considerably less expensive than lime because it is not calcined; however, lime is far more difficult to handle and reacts readily with water. Dolomite and dolomitic lime are used for their magnesia content. Fluorspar is a neutral flux often used as an additive in steel- making slags to improve fluidity, but it has also been used in combination with lime as a primary slag in electroslag refining (Duckworth and Hoyle, 1969). Fluorspar is available in several grades, with the lowest grade often used for steelmaking. In the past, Newmont Gold Company relied on cement for their ore agglomeration process. With assistance from Betz Industrial, Newmont began Investigating the use of polymers for ore agglomeration. If gold recovery would not be jeopardized, then polymers could replace cement and possibly reduce operational costs associated with cement agglomeration. The following outlines the preliminary testing conducted to determine the feasibility of polymer agglomeration with Newmont's ore and the results of the test heap, which was constructed so the program could be examined under actual operating conditions. Similar polymer agglomeration testing has been successfully performed in other Nevada gold operations. By eliminating the need for cement, a polymeric agglomeration program could improve material handling operations, as well as offer the following additional savings. First, the polymer application uses only lime for adjusting basicity, the polymer does not contribute any alkalinity to the heap. Because lime is more soluble than cement, detoxification of the heap becomes much faster and less costly for the mine relative to rinsing cement alkalinity. The following graph compares the detoxification rate of cement and polymer over a 33 day cycle.

8.1 INTRODUCTION Under room and pillar mining if the extraction ratio is low, (i.e., < 50%) a pillar can support the overburden without collapse and there will be no surface subsidence whatsoever. In other words, if the pillar sizes are properly determined to support the overburden weight, the roof strata cannot cave and there will be no surface subsidence, provided the entry width is small and properly reinforced so that a continuous roof fall leading to piping or the total collapse of the roof does not occur. Under the prevailing mining conditions in the US if only development mining is em¬ployed in room and pillar mining (i.e., no pillar extraction), the extraction ratio is usually less than 50% and generally no surface subsidence will occur. If pillar mining is employed, surface subsidence may occur, depending on the extraction ratio and the size of the remnant pillars (or stumps) left in the gob. The higher the extraction ratio, the smaller the stump pillars left behind in the gob. As the size of the stump pillars becomes smaller, the possibility of their support¬ing the roof without collapse is smaller. If all stumps are crushed completely, the roof will collapse and surface subsidence will occur. Again, whether surface subsidence occurs, it depends on whether the remaining stumps can support the overburden or not. Therefore, since the weight of the overburden which the stump pillars have to support is proportional to the mining depth, a fixed¬size stump pillar can support the overburden at a shallow depth, but will collapse under greater depths. In this context extraction ratio is not the only parameter for determining whether surface subsidence will occur. Furthermore, during pillar mining a pillar can be cut away in many ways to finally reach the same extraction ratio. Therefore, the safest way to determine whether or not sur¬face subsidence will occur in room and pillar mining is to compare the strength of all stump pillars in the panel of interest with the weight of the overburden that the pillars have to support. If they are too small to support the overburden, surface subsidence will occur. Under normal mining practices the characteristics of surface subsidence profiles vary with methods of mining. In the US there are two types of coal mining methods, i.e., longwall and room and pillar mining. Longwall mining is indisputably a total extraction method, but different percentages of coal recovery are achieved in room and pillar mining. Recovery is much higher for sections with pillar extraction than those without pillar extraction. For those without pillar extraction, coal recovery increases with increasing entry width or decreasing pillar size. For those with pillar extrac¬tion, the total coal recovery depends on the amount of coal ex¬tracted from each pillar which is in turn dependent on the roof conditions and methods of pillar extraction. Bauer and Hunt (1981) analyzed the characteristics of the subsidence profiles due to the three types of mining methods in Illinois. Fig. 8.1 shows the range of locations associated with the following profile features: profile edge, maximum tensile curvature, maximum slope, maxi¬mum compressive curvature, and maximum subsidence. The scat¬ter of the data increases with decreasing percentages of extraction. The profile is much sharper for longwall mining and becomes milder as percentage of extraction decreases; for longwall mining the profile edge is always beyond the opening, while in room and pillar mining it may fall within. The location of maximum tensile strain moves outward, while that of the maximum compressive strain moves inward as the percentage of extraction decreases and the maximum subsidence decreases with decreasing extraction ra¬tio. The general concepts discussed in this chapter may not apply to the entry development sections between two longwall panels where roof caving in both panels are very severe and overlap each other. Consequently, it must be treated differently. 8.2 CASE STUDIES Kohli et al. (1982) described several case studies on surface subsidence due to room and pillar mining with pillar extraction. In one case, the seam was 6 ft thick and ranged from 650 to 800 ft deep. The panel was 720 ft wide (Fig. 8.2) and was developed with seven entries. Each entry was 18 ft wide and the pillars were driven at 88 ft center-to-center between entries and crosscuts. Dur¬ing retreating, two additional pillars (pillars J and K) were devel¬oped, two blocks ahead of the pillar line, to take the barrier pillar, 160 ft wide, between panel No. I and No. 2. Pillar extraction began by taking a central slice across the whole panel, beginning from pillar 0 through J. After that, each pillar was sliced by 6 wing-slices, 3 on each side, leaving 4 stumps, 2 on each side. One of each pair was triangular shaped approximately 6 ft wide by 26 ft long. The other was trapezoidal, 26 ft long by 16 ft and 10 ft wide at the upper and lower bases, respectively. This resulted in a total extraction ratio of 85% within the panel. Obviously the stump pillars were not large enough to support the overburden and col¬lapsed completely. The final subsidence profiles were rather smooth, just like those under total extraction (Fig. 8.3). The max¬imum subsidence on Lines A and B was about 3 ft for an average mining height of 6 ft, but the locations of the maximum subsidence were skewed toward panel No. 1. Along Line D, the central por¬tion was flat-bottomed, but the maximum subsidence was only 2 ft, mainly because Line D was only two blocks from the right-side edge. Notice in every profile there was heaving of as much as 0.3 ft, beyond the edges above the solid coal. In another case (Fig. 8.4), the seam was 6 ft thick under 650 to 850 ft cover. Three panels, 710, 400, and 350 ft wide, respec¬tively, were extracted side by side. The entries were 18 ft wide and the pillars at 88 ft center-to-center between entries and crosscuts. Pillar extraction was practiced the same way as described previ¬ously. According to the mine maps, there was no barrier pillar left between the adjacent panels. Thus after extraction the three panels formed a common gob of more than 1460 ft wide. This was re¬flected in the development of the subsidence profile along the county road. After Panel No. I was mined, the maximum subsi¬dence of 1.2 ft occurred at Monument No. 1. This was increased to 1.6 ft after the extraction of Panel No. 2 and went to a further 1.8 ft after the extraction of Panel No. 3. The final maximum subsidence of 4.3 ft occurred at Monuments No. 6 through No. 8, while the remaining portion of the county road showed rebound. However it must be noted that the subsidence profiles were rather bumpy and fluctuated, perhaps an indication of the irregular stump pillars that were left and crushed at various time after mining. The continuous flow, horizontal drum blender has dynamic properties which may be described by the same type of equations which often arise in electrical filter analysis. Furthermore, the equations may be readily solved by the same techniques used in electrical control analysis. For this reason the blender model developed is termed an "Electric Analog", although strictly speaking it is a mathematical model. Presentation of the dynamic performance of the blender as an electrical (or mathematical) model is desirable for several reasons. The model can be of assistance in correlating performance data with equipment design parameters. The model &apos;can be used with other process equipment models for simulation of an entire plant operation or in stability studies. In addition, the model may be useful in providing insight into the actual blending mechanism, or it may suggest a similar method of analysis for other closely allied equipment.

The Jerritt Canyon Joint Venture project is located about 80 km (50 miles) north of Elko, NV. It produces approximately 9.3 t/a (300,000 oz/year) of gold. The joint venture is 70% owned by Independence Mining and 30% by Meridian Gold. Independence Mining is the operator. The Jerritt Canyon Joint Venture started operations in 1980 by mining a series of open-pit mines. The discovery of deeper ores during early 1990s made it neccessary for the operation to mine a large portion of its annual production by underground mining methods. Underground production started in 1993 at the West Generator Mine. This was followed by the Murray Mine in late 1994. Two additional underground projects are being developed. Underground mining at Jerritt Canyon is scheduled to produce about 3.9 t (128,000 oz) in 1997.

The installations to be discussed demonstrate the variety of conditions, materials, and results desired which must be evaluated before a selection is made from the specialized crusher technology available today. Those of you who are closely involved with phosphate rock and phosphate products processing will find some of this information a bit interesting and perhaps alien to your own descriptions or every day references. It is given from a "crusher" manufacturer&apos;s viewpoint and therefore is infused With our flair and language. The problem of fine coal slimes has been addressed in a unique way at A. T. Massey Coal?Company. Several plants have employed two-stage classifying cyclones to separate the minus 1 mm raw coal into 3 sizes. Larger cyclones make the initial cut at approximately 150 µ (100?mesh) sending the underflow to a cleaning circuit (usually spirals) while the overflow is pumped to a secondary cyclone circuit using smaller cyclones. The small cyclones make a cut at near 70 µ (200 mesh) and produce an underflow that is a des limed flotation feed. The overflow is discarded to refuse due to its high ash and superfine size which would produce a high moisture product even if suitably recovered.

Natural resins, those derived from coal and those mined in the Uintah basin, face challenges from synthetic resins that are derived from petroleum sources and rosin or wood sources. In the past, fossil resins from coal were produced by various companies, the last one being Hercules, Inc., which sold BLACKHAWK resin until a fire destroyed the plant in the mid 1970&apos;s. Approximately four to fjve million pounds of BLACKHAWK were produced and sold mostly to the printing ink industry. Uintaite, more commonly known as Gilsonite® resin, was widely used by various industries, notably in printing inks, coatings, stains, adhesives, foundry, asphalt paving, and oil well drilling muds. Gilsonite has lost market share over the last thirty years to various synthetic resins particularly hydrocarbon resins that are derived from petroleum sources.

By using physical and chemical method to increase the bulk density of newly mined coal, the productivity of a mine can be significantly increased. Greater amounts of coal can be placed in fixed volume shuttle car by increasing bulk density. This can increase mine productivity by about 15%. Small, easy to achieve changes in mining operations are required to obtain the increased productivity. This article deals with chemical methods used to increase coal bulk density, the results and discussion are based on experiments performed in the laboratory.

Gilsonite is a brittle, natural solid bituminous resin, classified as an asphaltite. It is found in near-vertical veins in the Uintah Basin of Eastern Utah. Discovered well over 100 years ago by Samuel Gilson, this unique material has, since its finding, enjoyed a variety of commercial and industrial applications. Early uses for the product included black automotive paint and beer vat linings. Among its many important uses today are additives for oil well drilling fluids and cements, additives for sand castings for the foundry industry, reinforcing agent for asphalt pavements, and dispersing agent for black inks. Gilsonite is mined and processed in Bonanza, Utah, by two companies, American Gilsonite Company (AGC), an operating division of Chevron Resources, and Ziegler Chemical, a privately held company headquartered in New York.

The Appalachian coal fields contain many mineable contiguously placed coal seams. Selection of the mining sequence for these seams, historically and currently, is based primarily on considerations of seam ownership, availability and economics. Mining any seam can seriously affect subsequent operations in coal seams both above and below the one being mined. The effect is often detrimental to recovery costs and safety of mining in the subsequent seams. The purpose of this paper is to examine the conditions that can develop in an underlying seam due to stress concentrations that can occur below pillars or abutment zones in an overlying seam, and suggest guidelines for avoiding them. This situation most commonly occurs when the overlying seam is mined first, although simultaneous and subsequent mining of the upper seam can also produce such effects. Other interaction phenomena resulting from subsidence or arching will not be considered here. The methodology used in this research utilized both computer and body loaded photoelastic models to study the interaction mechanisms. Field studies are used in both interpretation and analysis of the results. Numerous examples of load transfer from upper workings exist in all parts of the world and many of these have been incorporated into this work. Such interaction problems are quite common and likely to be an ever increasing occurrence as mining activities in old seams are completed and new seams opened up.

In the mobile crushing unit system trucks are replaced by a conveyor resulting in a "continuous" almost "fully-automated" operation with all its attendant advantages. In consequence, overall operating costs are greatly reduced. Because of the new designs of large mobile crushing units that have been brought on-to the market, the use of these plants has increased significantly during the last three years. This paper describes the designs of new mobile crushing units, and emphasizes the advantages that such plants offer to the rock products and mining industries. It examines operating costs, and indicates the conditions in which the application of these plants is most profitable.

Stability analyses were performed on the La Libertad, Nicaragua existing tailings embankment in order to determine the conditions for the minimum buttressing required for stability of the dam as a short term measure. Two critical sections, shown in Figure 1, were investigated under static, drained and undrained conditions for existing and modified geometries. The existing geometries reflect the "as built" topography of the dam, and the modified geometries reflect the implementation of a toe berm to buttress the slope. For these geometries drained and undrained conditions as well as different elevations of the toe berm were evaluated against a factor of safety.

New concepts in shaft kiln processing are included in the design of two large diameter shaft kiln plants now under construction. One kiln will be used to produce cement clinker at the Boettcher plant of the Ideal Cement Company at Fort Collins, Colorado. The other kiln is for the semi-commercial oil shale plant for Petrobras, the Brazil National Oil Company at Sao Mateus do Sul, Parana, Brazil. Investigations on application of the new concepts are proceeding in a portable pilot kiln. "An innovative method to reduce acid rock drainage (ARD) and sediment loading of a recreational lake was used in the Red River watershed in northern New Mexico. The Red River drains a mining district that contains multiple naturally occurring hydrothermal alteration zones that release ARD and sediment to the river during episodic summer rain storms. A lake is near the mouth of the watershed and is filled with water from the river through a sluice gate and diversion. An automated actuator was installed on the sluice gate to close when the river is impacted by high-suspended sediment. Water quality probes were installed at the sluice gate to monitor the river water for turbidity, specific conductivity and water depth. If high turbidity is measured, the sluice gate closes automatically. Remote access is setup with a computer view screen to review the real-time system status. Once the turbidity drops below a threshold, the sluice gate is reopened remotely. The automated sluice gate has successfully reduced the amount of ARD and suspended sediment entering the lake. This reduction has resulted in an improved aquatic habitat for the fishery and benthic macroinvertebrate community. BACKGROUND The Red River is located within the Sangre De Cristo Mountain Range in northern New Mexico. The river drains an area of approximately 190 square miles and spans elevations from 6,600 feet at its confluence with the Rio Grande to its headwaters near 12,000 feet (Figure 1). The river generally flows to the west along most if its length.The Red River watershed includes several hydrothermal alteration zones. The alteration zones were created by intrusion of high-silica granites and subvolcanic porphyries, with associated hydrothermal fluids, into the volcanic rocks of the Questa Caldera. The hydrothermal alteration is also responsible for the molybdenum deposits in the area. Rapid chemical weathering and physical erosion of pyrite-rich hydrothermally altered rocks has resulted in the formation of alteration scars. The alteration scars are characterized by steep, erodible slopes with little vegetation and incised gullies. Debris fans from the drainages containing active alteration scars have formed and typically consist of poorly sorted sand and gravel that is distinctly pale yellow in color. Some of the more prominent scars are located in the Hansen, Straight and Hottentot Creek drainages downstream of the town of Red River."

In 1970, recognizing the great need for an economical, high capacity chemical oxidation process for wastewater treatment, Houston Research began a fundamental study of the available technology, Included was waste characterization; oxidation chemistry for molecular oxygen, ozone and catalyst initiators; kinetics of reaction; gas-liquid contacting methods; and optimization of staged reactors for mixed wastes. Although ozone is the most powerful oxidizer available, the literature contains contradictory reports of its speed and effectiveness. It is now felt to be most likely that many of these early investigations were limited by the ineffectual transfer of ozone from the gas phase into the liquid, and so the investigators were really observing the effects of mass transfer and erroneously trying to interpret the results as if they were chemical reaction data. HR&apos;s work considered the cost and effectiveness of gas-liquid contacting in a packed tower, gas sparged contactor, ejector with hold-up tank, and a completely mixed, sparged contactor. The sparged, mixed contactor was found to be most effective and least expensive, and a later investigation settled on the reactor configuration shown in Figure 1 because of its effectiveness of mass transfer and because it lends itself to direct scale-up techniques using laboratory data to design larger reactors.

In 1989 Newmont Gold company initiated a project to develop a treatment process for higher grade refractory gold ores to be mined from deposits along the Carlin Trend in Nevada. Extensive laboratory and pilot testing have identified a unique whole ore roasting process for oxidizing these ores prior to gold recovery by conventional cyanidation techniques. Subsequent detailed engineering studies by Fluor Daniel evaluated three different dry grinding flowsheets for feed preparation to this roasting circuit. The selected flowsheet will incorporate a two compartment ball mill with an attached drying chamber that is driven by a 11.2 MW (15,000 hp) wrap-around motor.

"In urban areas, it is often required to construct additional railway tunnels beneath existing railway tunnels. In this case, dynamic interaction between tunnels at the intersection becomes an important issue, as it amplifies structural behavior causing damage to structures and inconvenience to passengers. In this study, vibration superposition effect at the intersection between existing and newly constructed tunnels is investigated by the numerical method. Dynamic interaction mechanism is firstly examined using simple sine wave load, and then a typical analysis for actual multi-leveled tunnel intersection is performed. The results show that the dynamic amplification due to dynamic interaction of tunnels is 149% at the crown of lower tunnel. This indicates that the vibration superposition effect must be considered when the planning and design of a new tunnel beneath the existing tunnel. 1. INTRODUCTION In these days, there are increasing cases that trains cross without transfer stations in metropolitan areas. Consequently, either tunnel is necessarily to be neighboring or crossing, thus tunnel sections closely located are created as shown in Figure 1. If a new tunnel is constructed beneath the existing tunnel, the vibration due to trains passing through each tunnel can mutually affect. The behavior of coupled vibrations may occur and exceed the allowable structural limit, and cause inconvenience to passengers. Theoretically, when vibration waves are propagated from a source to different locations, amplification or decrease of the vibrations can occur by the principle of wave superposition and interference. Multi-leveled tunnel intersection is one of the cases mentioned above. In the actual tunnel, it is difficult to investigate the vibration superposition effect due to a complex ground conditions and structural geometries. In addition, train vibration itself is multi-source vibration, which cannot be theatrically analyzed. Thus, at the tunnel intersection, train vibration from two tunnels make the problem more complicated."

"The construction of the three connecting tunnels between the east side and the west side of station C13, adjacent to the Vistula river, has a long and complex history, as they cross beneath one of Warsaw’s main road arteries (Wislostrada). After the attempt to excavate the first tunnel, the face of the tunnel collapsed on the night of August 13, 2012, and a volume of about 10,000 cubic meters of liquid mass (water, silty soil and sand) entered and flooded the west side of the station, which was filled with more than seven meters of material. Fortunately, the workers managed to escape, but machines and equipment were lost. This is the story of how the tunnels were completed, by adopting soil improvement, jet grouting, GRP bars, ground freezing and a careful choice of work steps. INTRODUCTION The Centrum Nauki Kopernik station on Line II of the Warsaw Underground is located alongside to the Vistula river (Figure 1). This station hereinafter is referred to as station C13.The station consist of three parts: the east and west part, and three connecting tunnels 40 meters in length with a large cross section (170 m2).. It includes the rails along the sides and the platform along the centre. The reason for the underground connection of two shafts with a tunnel is due to the presence of a road tunnel (Wislostrada, hereinafter called WS), which must be underpassed by the new metro line (Figure 2).The existing tunnel (Wislostrada) was built many years before, between diaphragm walls, and some foundation structures interfere with the underground tunnel. The challenge was to build the connectors without stopping the traffic of vehicles along the highway above. All works took place in very difficult geological and groundwater conditions due to the presence of Vistula alluvial deposits with poor mechanical characteristics. The soil profile consists of relatively loose sands on top, and silts overlying high plasticity Pliocene clays highly disturbed by the effects of the repeated over-sliding of glacial moraine deposits."

New global industry standards and regulatory changes regarding mining tailings management are driving installation of tailings filtration plants to decommission existing tailings dams and implement dry stacking. Target of this project was to reduce ultrafine slime tailings deposition. Previous investigation at Samarco concentrator has showed a 35% decrease in tailings filtration throughput when feeding a mix of 95% flotation tailings with 5% slime tailings (compared with 100% flotation tailings), also worsening geotechnical aspects such as material workability during dry staking. Industrial trials using a proper filter aid at tailings filtration plant feeding a mix of 94% flotation tailing and 6% slime tailing (equivalent to 30% of total slime generation) have provided filtration performance maintenance (throughput and cake moisture), and dry stacking the dewatered material. Results achieved will enable life expansion of existing slime disposal structures, as well as potential life of mining extension. Furthermore, reagent chemistry influence is discussed by the light of geotechnical aspects, which has been showing improved KPIs, such as workability, compressibility and permeability.
