El cuarto periodo comprende de 1950 a 1968 donde se revisa el registro de concesiones y derechos mineros, la estadística de 1968 y el quinto período (1969- 1978) señala la expansión metalúrgica, reservas mineras y la producción desarrollada durante este período.

The aim of this paper is to question the need to develop bespoke monitoring and assessment methodologies and criteria, thereby ‘reinventing the wheel’, when designing and assessing the success of important natural habitat and ecosystem restoration schemes at mine sites in the UK and Australia. It draws attention to the existence and applicability of the Phase I Habitat, National Vegetation Classification (NVC) and Condition Monitoring methods in the UK and similar approaches used in Australia. These are long accepted established methodologies and have published accounts for describing, assessing and managing natural vegetation communities, habitats and ecosystems. They are often used at the environmental impact stage, but seemingly rarely, if at all, in restoration design and management at mine closure. Their application to mine restoration and closure is illustrated and discussed by reference to a surface coalmine in South Wales, UK.It is concluded that the application of a combination of the Phase I Habitat, NVC and Condition Monitoring methods is highly relevant to the expectations of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and its implementation in the UK, and probably in Australia too. The methodology and criteria described could be incorporated into the guidance and specified in the mining permits so that there is clarity as to the expectations and requirements for monitoring and assessment for bond release. 1. In 2003, a total of 258 metal mining operations reported employment to the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA). Metal mines were the smallest mining sector, comprising 1.8% of all mining operations.1 • Gold mines comprised 44.2% (n = 114) of all metal mining operations. Other common types of metal mines were iron ore (n = 29; 11.2%), copper ore (n = 28; 10.9%), and lead and/or zinc ore (n = 21; 8.1%). • Nevada had the largest number of metal mines (n = 48; 18.6%) followed by Alaska (n = 29; 11.2%).

Each year, one living Hall of Fame inductee, up to three Medal of Merit recipients, honorees from mining?s past, and recipients of an Industry Partnership Award and a Special Citation are recognized for their respective contributions to the mining industry. Armine Frederick Ban?eld Jr., past chairman and founder of Mintec, Inc. located in Tucson, AZ, will be honored as the 2014 Hall of Fame Inductee at the awards banquet. Banfield founded Mintec from his Tucson apartment in 1970 and expanded it to a global operation. Under his guidance, Mintec won the 2013 President?s E-Award for Exports ? the highest recognition any United States company may receive for making a significant contribution to the expansion of U.S. exports. Medals of Merit will be awarded to Corale L. and James A. Brierley, founder and principal of Brierley Consultancy LLC; David Nicholas of Call and Nicholas Inc. and Scott M. Shields of Joy Global. "This study evaluated the Salvinia sp action on metals biosorption in a synthetic sample of acid mine drainage (AMD) in order to determine the time and amount of metals uptake. Biosorptives tests were realized varying the contact time of 5, 20, 60 and 240 minutes. And keeping constant the follow parameters: pH (2.6), biomass concentration (1g.L-1), temperature (25°C) and agitation (175rpm). In order to quantify the metals concentration captured by biomass, the AMD samples will be analyzed by ICP. Biosorbent, Salvinia sp., will be characterized before and after the biosorptives tests through analysis of SEM and IR. The micrographs indicate the occurrence of micro-precipitation and changes in biomass physical structure. The infrared spectra indicate changes in functional groups present in the biomass before and after the biosorptives tests.IntroductionThe current emphasis on environmental sustainability leads the industry in general, to treat their waste. The human activities are increasing, highlighting the industrial and mining activities, and have promoted the contamination of soil, waterways and groundwater by metals (1). The waste must undergo treatment processes aimed at reducing pollution, and therefore, less aggression ecosystems.This means the importance of studies of economic and effective methods to eliminate these metals from wastewater generated. The bioindicators are good investments in this area. The aquatic weeds are plants that inhabit swamps up from truly aquatic environments. They have several morphological and physiological adaptations that enable them to colonize the various aquatic environments. They are used as bioindicators of water quality and have also been used in decontamination of aquatic environments, production of biomass for livestock feed, fertilizers, soil and fish tanks (2)."

On-site evaluation of strength using hardness is common for different materials. The lack of such relation for aluminum alloys has always been felt. In this work, a finite element analysis of plastic deformation and its distribution in Brinell hardness testing is presented. The analysis has been performed for different strength levels of aluminum alloys. By utilizing the Von Mises equivalent strain in hardness, it is tried to derive a correlation between hardness and strength values for the alloys under consideration. The derived correlation is verified using the experimental values available in literature.

THE annual fall meeting of the Institute of Metals and the Iron and Steel divisions, in conjunction with the American .Society for Steel Treating and the Metal Congress and Show, at Boston was from many standpoints the most successful we have had to date. While many faces were missing from the various gatherings, the Institute registration reached the high mark of 324 members and guests. Cooperating with the Steel Treaters were also the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Society of Automotive Engineers and the American Welding Society. ,The meeting was, as usual, a three-ring circus with technical sessions 'galore, plant .trips, visits to the Exposition, social events such as lunch- eons and dinners as well as entertainment for the ladies present.

Ion exchange is widely used in hydrometallurgical operations for the recovery and purification of valuable metals. Special chelating resins have a high affinity for specific elements, allowing the selective removal of low levels of impurities from a background of highly concentrated valuable metal. Solvent-impregnated resins have been added to this group more recently, expanding the treatment options. These products find application in the purification of cobalt-rich liquor prior to the production of high-purity metal or metal salts. Impurities in copper-cobalt circuits that are typically targeted by ion exchange include iron, uranium, copper, zinc, nickel, bismuth, and antimony. Ion-exchange resins can also be used to treat tailings, thereby recovering additional valuable metal and improving the Environmental and Social Governance credentials of the operation. Green rust is an important intermediate in oxidative transformation of Fe(II) phase. This unstable compound contains a mixture of ferrous and ferric hydroxides that belong to a family of minerals known as layered double hydroxides (LDH). Its general formula is [FeII(6-x) FeIIIx (OH)12]x+[Ax/n-*yH2O] x-, where A is an n-valent anion mainly Cl-, CO3-2 and SO4-2, and in which either the bivalent or the trivalent iron can be replaced for other trivalent or bivalent metal ions. It was first identified as corrosion product, later in soils as a product of interactions between microbes and metals in soils. Due to its high reactivity, it is used in the reduction of organic and inorganic compounds, As removal, and the treatment of acid mine drainage. In this paper, we described the method of electrochemical generation of green rust, its characterization by XRD, SEM and FT-IR, and its implications to electrocoagulation.

As primeiras argamassas utilizadas em construções pelo homem continham em sua composição, materiais argilosos. Porém, por ser um material com muitas cargas elétricas livres, as argilas reagem constantemente com a água, ocasionando grande variação linear que acaba causando fissuração nas argamassas feitas com esse material. Assim, para solucionar esse problema, passou-se a utilizar cal hidratada no lugar dos materiais argilosos. Dessa maneira, mesmo não sendo composta por argila, a argamassa mantém sua trabalhabilidade. Nesse cenário, o presente trabalho teve como objetivo balancear estequiometricamente a cal hidratada e as argilas estudadas, para utilizar essas quantidades em argamassas para revestimento, barateando assim o material. Para encontrar esse balanceamento estequiométrico calculou-se a massa molar para um mol de cal hidratada e para um mol teórico de argila. Assim foram estipuladas algumas proporções possíveis de balanceamento da equação de reação cal+argila. Além disso, foram confeccionados corpos de prova, variando as quantidades de argila e cal, para realização de ensaios de capilaridade, a fim de comprovar a eficácia dos resultados encontrados no balanceamento teórico.

"Why should we care about diesel quality amidst the complexity of mining for minerals? Mining companies use a large amount of diesel fuel in their worldwide operations, both for moving ore from the mine to the processing mills or transportation hubs, and to generate power for onsite processing. This creates a large carbon footprint and poses both environmental risk with the production of emissions, and public perception of how those companies do their business as stewards of the environment while incurring a huge fuel expenditure. To improve diesel quality and create incremental value and greater environmental stewardship, the opportunity is broken down into several segments: 1. Mining industry diesel consumption 2. Fuel quality issues 3. Impacts on operations, economics, and emissions 4. Potential solutions 5. How improved fuel quality saves fuel expenditures 6. Economics of improved fuel quality 7. Recommended testing process 8. Fuel quality analysis checklist MINING INDUSTRY DIESEL CONSUMPTION The average grade of mined Australian ore bodies has halved, while the waste removed to access the minerals has more than doubled over the last 30 years, thus increasing energy consumption by 70%, (http://eex.gov.au/industry-sectors/mining/). Energy consumption and intensity in mining and mineral processing is rising at around 6% per annum. The mining industry is a huge consumer of diesel fuel worldwide, and the SRS Rocco Report of 4 August 2014 gives a better picture of recent trends. To better understand the reasons to reduce both fuel costs and consumption, we need to compare metrics on the amount of diesel consumed per each ounce of gold produced over the last decade. The rate of diesel consumption in gallons per each ounce of gold produced for the top five worldwide gold producers has doubled in the last 8 years from 12.7 gallons per ounce in 2005 to 25.8 in 2013 as shown in Figure 1 below.This is caused by 1) lower ore grades requiring more hauls to get same amount of finished gold product, and 2) haul trucks moving ore from deeper sources in open pit and underground mines. For one large multi-national gold mining company, the 2005 waste rock / production ratio was 52 metric tons/gold ounce; by 2013 that ratio had grown to 113 metric tons/gold ounce per the same SRSrocco 4 August 2014 report. Using the metrics above, the top 5 gold miners used over 591 million gallons of diesel fuel in 2013. The cost of diesel in dollars per ounce of gold has increased from $30.48 in 2005 to $101.14 in 2013, an annual appreciation of 16.2% as shown in Figure 2 below."

Fair market value, in the legal sense , is the price which a prudent and knowledgeable buyer and a prudent and knowledgeable seller, acting without constraint or compulsion , will agree upon to exchange an asset. In the ordinary commercial or engineering usage, the term may imply simply the market value or a reasonable and equitable price. The engineer evaluator who is called upon to express an opinion about the fair market value of an asset may be able to base his estimate on the sale price of similar assets or on the market values of stock. Frequently such indicators of value are not available and the evaluator must devise other means of appraisal. Mineral resource properties may be thought of as having value by virtue of the existing or potential ability to produce at a profit. Conventional procedures permit the computation of the present value of future revenues having due regard for the time value of money and the risks attendant upon the realization of the venture. Such computations have gained wide acceptance as a basis for the estimation of fair market value.

"The purpose of the work is complex processing of sulphide-magnetite ores with the separation of iron into iron concentrate, copper and noble metals into copper concentrate.The work shows the research results of the material composition of the sulfide-magnetite ore in the South part of the Peschanskoye deposit. According to the research results it is found that ore contains 0.59% of copper, 66% of which is related to chalcopyrite; 39.9% of iron, 81% of which is magnetite and 3.87% is sulfur, 42% of which is associated with pyrrhotite, 65% of which is a monoclinic modification. According to the results of the mineralogical analysis, it is found that the main iron-containing mineral in the ore under study is magnetite, the content of which is 45%. In addition to magnetite, iron is found in carbonates, pyroxenes, amphiboles, chalcopyrite, pyrrhotite and pyrite. The main copper mineral in the sample is chalcopyrite; covellite, chalcosine, bornite have a subordinate value. The total content of copper minerals in the sample is about 1%. The processing technology provides the three-stage grinding of the ore to a size of 65% of the class-71 µm; a cycle of copper flotation; a cycle of pyrrhotite flotation; wet magnetic separation of flotation hosts. The following optimal parameters are established for the ore under study: the alkalinity of the slurry is 250-280 g/m3 of free calcium oxide in the liquid phase of the slurry; the duration of the main copper flotation is 20 min; the consumption of butyl potassium xanthate is 20 g/t; the consumption of the foam generator T-92 is 15 g/t; the consumption of copper sulfate for the activation of pyrrhotite is 300 g/t; the magnetic field strength is 1500 Oersteds.A complex flotation-magnetic technology for the enrichment of sulfide-magnetite ore has been developed in the laboratory in order to produce a copper concentrate containing 21.6% of copper with 91.7% extraction and an iron concentrate with 66.5% of iron mass fraction and 1.2% of sulfur with an extraction of iron into the concentrate of 87.9%."

Bleeder entries are critically important to longwall mining for the moving of supplies, personnel, and the dilution of mine air contaminants. By design, these entries must stay open for many years for ventilation. Standing supports in moderate cover bleeder entries were observed, numerically modeled, and instrumented by researchers at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). The measurements of the installed borehole pressure cells (BPCs), standing support load cells and convergence meters, and roof extensometers are presented in this paper in addition to the numerical modeling results and visual observations made by the NIOSH researchers in the bleeder entries. The results include the effects of multiple panels being extracted in close proximity to the instrumented site as well as over one and a half years of aging. As expected, standing supports closer to the longwall gob showed the greatest load and convergence. The roof sag appeared generally independent of the proximity to the longwall gob. The BPC readings were driven by both the proximity to the gob and the depth into the pillar. The results of this study demonstrated that the entry roof can respond independently of the pillar and standing support loading. In addition, the rear abutment stress experienced by this bleeder entry design was minimal. The closer the mine development, pillar, or supports are to the gob, the greater the applied load due to rear abutment stress.

This paper examines the effect of bucket geometry (cutting-blade profile, floor profile and blade thickness), speed, motor power output and muckpile particle sizes on bucket penetration and draft for rubber tire loaders. The work uses a 1:16 scale model of a load-haul-dump (LHD) in full-factorial experiments to examine the effect of the variables on penetration and maximum draft. The results show that speed and motor output are positively correlated with penetration and draft, and muckpile particle size is positively correlated with penetration and negatively correlated with draft (p < 0.0014).

The production of oil and gas in Arkansas is confined to two distinct and widely separated regions of the state; namely: (1) South Arkansas in the Gulf coastal plain, where 49 fields-many containing two or more reservoirs or pools-yield oil, condensate and gas from beds in the Cretaceous and Jurassic, and (2) Northwest Arkansas, a part of the Arkansas Valley, where only dry gas is produced in 21 fields from sandstones of Pennsylvanian age. Exploration during the year 1945 centered largely in these two producing regions, but some of the geophysical surveys were made and wildcat drilling was done a considerable distance outside these regions.

Cooperation between the United States Bureau of Mines and the Safety in Mines Research Board of Great Britain, continuous, since 1924, s made possible this and other papers on safety subjects. Grateful acknowledgment is made to representatives of the board for their assistance in arranging visits to several mine-safety stations, and to F. R. Wynne, Deputy Chief Inspector of Mines, for arranging visits to mines in Great Britain and certain other countries in Europe. During the summer of 1927 the writer had the privilege of visiting the mine-safety testing stations An Great Britain, Belgium, Germany, and France, in the order named. All of these countries have large coal mines, many of which are rated as gassy. Therefore, a the installation of electrical equipment is contemplated each of these countries is confronted with the same safety problem as is the United States that is, the development of electrical equipment that will not, ignite gassy atmospheres should they through neglect or accident surround the equipment. The means employed by these countries in safeguarding gassy mines should therefore be of general interest to safety engineers of American coal mines, and a brief survey is given for each of the four countries mentioned. The fourth or last of these surveys covers conditions in France.

El presente texto aborda los resultados de tres estudios realizados por Microscopía Electrónica de Barrido con Energía Dispersiva (SEM/EDS) en el Laboratorio de Caracterización Mineralógica, donde destaca la importancia de la técnica en el sector de minería y materiales. El primer estudio comprende el análisis de los contenidos de fierro y manganeso en concentrado de zinc, donde se verifica que la esfalerita contiene fierro cerca del límite aceptable de 5%. El segundo estudio realiza una caracterización mineralógica de muestras con minerales de plata, para conocer el estado de la plata (inclusión, solución sólida, encapsulada), con qué minerales está asociada y si puede ser liberada. Finalmente, el tercer estudio refiere el análisis de secciones fracturadas de tornillos de latón para evaluar las causas del rompimiento prematuro de los tornillos.

This Bureau of Mines study outlines the history of 11 major metal ore deposits or districts that are relatively new discoveries. The oldest operation is the White Pine mine, where major exploration was initiated in 1929. Discovery (delineation of ore bodies) dates range from 1948 to 1976. All but two of the deposits, Quartz Hill in Alaska and Flambeau in Wisconsin, are or shortly will be in major production.
