Sabe-se que a presença de ultrafinos em plantas de beneficiamento de minérios pode comprometer a eficiência dos processos principalmente os de flotação, uma vez que fenômenos como o slime coating e o arraste hidrodinâmico das partículas ocorrem fortemente. Além disso, concentrados contendo uma proporção significativa de ultrafinos terão dificuldade de serem filtrados gerando tortas de alta umidade. Este trabalho teve por objetivo estudar o efeito do dispersante AGLP consumido atualmente na planta de beneficiamento da Votorantim Metais Vazante, na flotação do minério silicatado de zinco e avaliar o efeito da sua dosagem na umidade do concentrado final produzido. Para tanto foi realizada a caracterização granulométrica das amostras e conduzidos testes de bancada de sedimentação, filtração e flotação em diferentes dosagens de AGLP. Como era de se esperar, os resultados identificaram que o concentrado de granulometria mais grosseira obteve melhor sedimentação e umidade. Já os testes de flotação indicaram que a dosagem ótima do dispersante em torno de 400g/t garante um concentrado de qualidade, sem perda de recuperação metalúrgica e com umidade adequada para que seja transportado.

Em julho de 2010, a linha de Tiras a Quente da Usiminas, planta de Ipatinga, passou a operar com um novo sistema de controle para o laminador de acabamento. Assim, foi necessário atualizar o simulador offline de set up do Trem Acabador, utilizado frequentemente pelas áreas técnica e operacional. Para isso, toda a lógica de cálculo e formulações matemáticas do sistema online foram assimiladas e empregadas no novo simulador. Os resultados das simulações, quando comparados com os valores gerados pelo modelo online, mostraram-se bastante confiáveis. Sendo assim, conclui-se que o aplicativo desenvolvido está apto para ser utilizado como uma ferramenta de simulação offline do modelo de controle do Trem Acabador. Os benefícios potenciais do uso do simulador são: (i) aumento da produtividade por meio da redução de paradas da linha, (ii) melhoria da qualidade final do produto, (iii) redução do número de experimentos na produção e (iv) ajuste dos parâmetros dos modelos de controle. No presente trabalho são apresentadas e discutidas as características do desenvolvimento, da apresentação e da aplicação desse simulador.

O objetivo desse trabalho foi avaliar o efeito do tempo de recozimento na resistência à corrosão do aço inoxidável duplex UNS S32205 laminado a frio. Quando o aço duplex é submetido a deformações intensas, a austenita transforma-se parcialmente em martensita, elevando a resistência mecânica do aço. Já quando é feito o recozimento essa transformação é revertida, ou seja, a martensita se transforma em austenita. Porém, esses aços apresentam forte tendência à formação de fases secundárias quando expostos a determinadas temperaturas por certo intervalo de tempo, que levam à deterioração das propriedades mecânicas e corrosivas dos mesmos. O aço estudado foi submetido à laminação a frio até 60% de redução da espessura, e posteriormente recozido a 850°C, temperatura na qual a cinética de precipitação de fases é máxima, nos tempos de 300, 600, 1800 e 86400 segundos. Para a análise microestrutural foram utilizadas as técnicas de microscopia óptica, microscopia eletrônica de varredura e a difração de raios-X. A resistência à corrosão foi estudada por meio da técnica de impedância eletroquímica (EIE), utilizando solução de NaCl 3,5% à temperatura ambiente. O aumento do tempo de recozimento aumentou a precipitação das fases secundárias, o que leva ao aumento de regiões empobrecidas em Cr e Mo. Com o aumento do tempo de recozimento, essas regiões são parcialmente recuperadas pela difusão desses elementos, melhorando a resistência à corrosão.

Critical to understanding and controlling phase mixing and separation in metallurgical processes, is the development of reliable experimental techniques to measure interfacial properties of melt systems. A series of experiments has been carried out to determine the effect of oxygen potential on the surface tension of liquid copper. Using an electromagnetic levitation method, a surface tension-oxygen chemical potential adsorption isotherm was produced for the Cu-O system at T 1400 K. The surface tension results show good agreement with the literature values e.g. within 3 per cent for pure copper. The Belton `ideal' adsorption isotherm was applied, and the following equation derived to best fit the experimental data ? =1251-77.5 1n41+ (2.79x105 . pO1/2)](mN.m Using this equation, the surface tension of copper was calculated/predicted as a function of oxygen potential at 1400 K, and showed excellent agreement with the experimental values. This confirmed that the adsorption behaviour of oxygen in liquid copper is ideal. The saturation coverage of oxygen on the surface of liquid copper was determined to be T0 = 6.65 µmoles.m,-2 corresponding to an area per adsorbed oxygen atom of ao ? 25 Å2. These values agree well with those cited in the literature, and our experimental data cover a very wide range of oxygen potential (10-5 to 10-17 atm). Com o aumento dos investimentos energéticos na região amazônica, surge a necessidade de recapacitação das linhas de transmissão existentes, a fim de mitigar as interrupções de fornecimento de energia para os grandes centros urbanos. Dentro deste contexto, as ligas termorresistentes possuem alta capacidade de transmissão de eletricidade, propondo-se avaliar a influência do tratamento térmico sobre as propriedades da liga Al-0,05%Cu-[0,35-0,45]%Fe modificada pelo teor de 0,15%Zr. Os lingotes foram obtidos por fundição direta em coquilha metálica, usinados e envelhecidos artificialmente por 04 (quatro) horas a 150ºC e comparado seus resultados para a mesma liga sem tratamento. A influência do tratamento térmico foi avaliada através da caracterização macroestrutural, elétrica (ensaio de resistividade) e mecânica (ensaio de tração). Foi selecionado o diâmetro que apresentou os melhores resultados nos ensaios, para realização dos testes de termorresistividade, segundo o Protocolo COPEL e a Norma ASTM B941-10. O tratamento térmico provocou ligeiro aumento nos valores de condutividade elétrica e limite de resistência à tração (LRT), sem alteração da macroestrutura. Como destaque, o diâmetro 3,0 mm apresentou os melhores resultados de LRT e condutividade, cujos fios foram caracterizados como termorresistentes com e sem tratamento térmico segundo o Protocolo Copel, e somente os fios com tratamento térmico segundo a norma ASTM B941-10.

In this study, the effects of slag compositions, slag amount, temperature, and carbon content of steel on the manganese and phosphorus distribution ratios during converter steelmaking were analysed using the classical regular solution theory, and industrial tests were performed using two 80 t top-and-bottom combined blown converters (duplex melting process). The results indicate that the slag amount, temperature, and carbon content in steel are the main factors affecting the manganese yield when converter slag compositions remain constant. The FeO content of the slag has a strong impact on the manganese distribution ratio, while the slag basicity and MgO content have no obvious effect. The calculations and experimental results show that the phosphorus distribution ratio increases sharply with increasing slag basicity R, but then decreases with the increase of MgO and MnO contents in the slag. The final slag in converter steelmaking should have the following characteristics: 3.5 < R < 4.5, 15% < (FeO) < 20%, and 6% < (MgO) < 8%. The slag amount should be controlled appropriately at the same time. The results of this investigation would be useful in deciding on the application of manganese ore in alloying and identifying the slagging regime in converter steelmaking.

The simultaneous sulfation by sulhr dioxide and oxygen of CaO and MgO in calcined CMA (calcium magnesium acetate) were investigated. he experiments were carried out in the temperature range from 700 to 830 "C and at the SO2 concentrations of 0.3 to 1 mol %. The oxygen concentration was kept at 5 %. Each sample was calcined completely before the temperature was lowered to the sulfation temperature. According to the ranges of partial pressure of sulhr dioxide and temperature, there exist three regions for the sulfation reaction: region I in which neither oxide is sulfated, region I1 in which only CaO is sulfated, and region 111 in which both oxides are sulfated. It was shown that the MgO in calcined CMA is sulfated at a rate comparable to that of CaO by forming a mixed sulfate phase. Thus, unlike MgO contained in other desulhrization materials, the MgO content in calcined CMA can be fully utilized for flue gas desulhrization.

Pelotas compostas de minério de ferro, aglomerante e coque foram analisadas quanto à resistência à compressão (a frio e após aqueciemento) e porosidade. Para isso, três lotes de pelotas foram confeccionados, com diferentes teores de redutor, até a quantidade necessária para reação completa com os óxidos de ferro. Após seu preparo, as pelotas passaram por diferentes tempos de cura ao ar. Ensaios de resistência à compressão à frio e porosidade foram realizados em pelotas verdes e com 3, 7, 14, 21 e 28 dias de cura. Após 28 dias, uma série de pelotas foram secas e submetidas a testes de resistência à compressão após serem aquecidas a temperaturas entre 200ºC a 900º. Analisou-se, também, a perda de massa em cada patamar de temperatura. Entre os principais resultados, verificou-se que o comportamento mecânico de pelotas autorredutoras é melhorado com o aumento do tempo de cura e prejudicado pelo aumento do teor de coque e aumento da temperatura. Após 600ºC, a resistência das pelotas cai potencialmente. Além disso, lotes com maiores teores de coque apresentaram maiores valores de porosidade, sendo que este aumento foi mais significativo nos primeiros dias de cura.

Numerous researchers have addressed the complexity of the direct flotation separation of apatite from low-grade phosphate ore. The majority of these studies were limited to the micro-flotation scale. In fact, there is no warranty that a reagent scheme that showed a direct flotation of apatite at a micro-flotation scale on pure minerals would automatically replicate the same expected results on the natural ore in the mechanical flotation cell and so was the case for the phosphate ore studied. The overall trend was concentrating apatite in the non-float product. This study aspired to thoroughly assess the flotation performance of this never-exploited low-grade sedimentary phosphate using design of experiments (DOE). Unveiling new insights on such a strategy twist, various parameters and operating conditions, namely, desliming, type of collector and depressant, reagents dosages, conditioning times, flotation time, and pH, were addressed by multiple-factor screening using asymmetrical fractional factorial design followed by statistical interpretations. The collectors tested were the sodium oleate and a fatty acid mixture (FAM). The depressants tested were sodium alginate (NaAL), corn starch, carboxymethylcellulose (CMC), and sodium silicate. The results of the multivariable analysis revealed that desliming, pH, collector dosage, and flotation time significantly influenced the flotation process. Desliming was beneficial for the yield, P2O5 recovery, and SiO2 removal; however, there was still a compromise between grade and recovery. A strongly alkaline pH value of 12 stood out from the whole range. P2O5, CO2, and SiO2 grades of the products and flotation recoveries were improved, except for P2O5 recovery, which was negatively affected. A collector dosage between 2000 and 3000 g/t increased the P2O5 grade and reduced CO2 grade and recovery, enhancing the apatite/carbonates separation. A flotation time of 15 min was significant for P2O5 grade and CO2 recovery, nevertheless, at the expense of yield and P2O5 recovery. The products having initial concentrates of 28.08% P2O5 with a recovery of 88.96% and 29.41% P2O5 with a recovery of 62.71% were obtained using 25 g/t of NaAL and 2000 g/t of the collector FAM and sodium oleate, respectively, at pH 12.

Precious metal mineralization at Mt. Hamilton, NV is associated with a polymetallic, garnet-pyroxene skarn system developed in middle to upper Cambrian calcareous shale, limestone, and dolomite. The skarn is developed around the Cretaceous Seligman and Monte Cristo calc-alkaline stocks. Gold is associated with intense retrograde alteration. Later epithermal quartz veins contain gold, silver, base-metal sulfides, and sulfosalts cross-cut skarn alteration. Westmont Mining Inc. is currently developing two mineralized zones containing a geologic resource of about 7 Mt (7.7 million st) that averages 1.7 g/t (0.05 oz per st) gold and 17.2 g/t (0.5 oz per st) silver. The project will have an estimated mine life of seven years, with a planned annual production rate of I t (35,000 oz) of gold and 9.3 t (300,000 oz) of silver.

No modelamento matemático do reator RH, a penetração do gás no líquido na perna de subida é o fator chave para determinar a distribuição do gás injetado e obter uma previsão confiável da taxa de circulação do líquido entre a câmara de vácuo e a panela. Neste trabalho, através de simulações numéricas via CFX, investigou-se o efeito das forças de arrasto, de sustentação, de lubrificação da parede, dispersão turbulenta e de massa virtual. A distribuição do gás na perna de subida e os valores de taxa de circulação previstos via CFX foram validados com resultados de modelo físico. A melhor predição da penetração do gás e da taxa de circulação foi obtida na simulação com incorporação da força de massa virtual e da força de sustentação, cujos coeficientes foram iguais a 0,3 e 0,1, respectivamente. A força de lubrificação deve ser utilizada para evitar o acúmulo de gás próximo às paredes da perna, mas possui efeito desprezível sobre a taxa de circulação. Os resultados dos modelos físico e matemático se ajustaram com a equação de Kuwabara para taxa de circulação.

The oxidation of Ni-3 to 25 wt pd Al alloys has been studied in 0. 1 atm of oxygen at temperatures between 900° and 1300°C. These alloys have been found to oxidize by three different mechanisms which depend on the temperature of- oxidation and the alloy composition. Two of the three mechanisms do not permit a continuous layer of Al,0, to be formed on the alloy surface and the oxidation rates are greater than that for pure nickel. The third mechanism results in the formation of an external A1203 scale and lke oxidation rates are about three orders of magnitude smaller than those for pure nickel. The minimum amount of aluminum required for the formation of external scales of A L,0, has been determined. NICKEL-base alloys are currently the main source of materials for use at elevated temperatures in gas turbine engines. These alloys are usually coated to obtain oxidation resistance. Coatings on nickel-base alloys are frequently formed by reaction of the alloy with aluminum whereby alloyed nickel aluminides are formed. The alloyed nickel aluminides provide protection to the nickel base alloy because external scales of A1203 (alumina) are formed during oxidation and mass transport through A120, is slow in comparison to mass transport through most other oxides. In view of the protective properties of A1203, it is important to know how much aluminum is required in these alloys in order to form external scales of AlzO,. The present paper is concerned with the oxidation kinetics and the oxidation mechanisms of Ni-A1 alloys and the minimum amount of aluminum required in these alloys for the formation of external scales of Alz03. THEORETICAL CONSIDERATIONS When a Ni-A1 alloy is heated in oxygen at elevated temperatures, the following reactions can take place on the surface of the alloy where the oxide phases are assumed to be virtually pure: These oxide phases are in the form of nuclei scattered over the surface of the alloy and, in view of their rapid formation, they need not be in equilibrium with the alloy. As the oxidation process continues, equilibrium between the alloy surface and the oxide phases is approached and the stability of the oxide nuclei is determined by the composition of the alloy at the alloy/oxide interface because of the following reactions: 3NiA1204 + 2A1 (alloy) = 4AlzO3 + 3Ni (alloy) [41 4Ni0 + 2Al (alloy) = NiA120, + 3Ni (alloy) [ 5 1 Application of the mass-action law to Eqs. [4J and [5J yields the following equilibrium conditions for these reactions: where aA1 and aNi are the activities of aluminum and nickel, are the standard free energies of formation of NiO, A1203, and NA1204, respectively, R is the gas constant, and T is the absolute temperature. If the composition of the alloy at the alloy/oxide interface is such that (akl/ahi) is greater than the equilibrium values defined by Eqs. [6] and [7], then Reactions (41 and [5] will go to the right as written. Conversely, if the alloy composition is such that the activity ratio (aLl,/aki) at the alloy/oxide interface is less than the equilibrium values, then Reactions [4] and [5] will proceed to the left. The equilibrium activity ratios in Eqs. [6] and 171 can be calculated since values for the standard free energies of formation of the oxide phases are available. Standard free energies of formation for NiO and A1203 have been tabulated by Elliott and ~leiser.&apos; The standard free energy of formation for NiA1204 can be obtained from the data of Tretjakow and Schmalzried.&apos; The results of these calculations are tabulated in Table I. The variation of the spectral emissivity of osmium and ruthenium with temperature can be expressed by the following relations: DURING a study of the sintering characteristics of osmium and ruthenium, discrepancies in the previously accepted melting points of the metals were noted. The melting temperatures had not been measured at the time of the work, but were estimated in the literature as 2700°C for osmium and 2450°C for ruthenium.&apos; A recent investigation by Baird2 has shown the melting temperatures of osmium and ruthenium are 3000" and 2250° C, respectively. In the present work, osmium bars sintered at temperatures as high as 2900° C showed no evidence of melting, whereas ruthenium showed definite evidence of melting at temperatures as low as 2250°C. In view of the apparent discrepancies, the melting temperatures of both metals were determined. The spectral emissivities of both metals were determined as an aid to studies of the sintering characteristics of these metals. MATERIALS AND PROCEDURES The materials used in these studies were metal powders supplied by Englehard Industries, Inc., through the courtesy of The International Nickel Co. Analytical data from three laboratories, although not in complete agreement as to the purity of the material or the major impurity elements, indicated that the maximum impurity levels were 0.5 and 1.0 wt pct in osmium and ruthenium, respectively. The metal powders were pressed to 1/4 by 1/4 by 6-in. bars at 20Tsi using carbon tetrachloride as a lubricant. The pressed bars were presintered 1 hr at 1200°C after heating 1 hr at 400°C. The presintered densities of the several bars of the metals ranged from 65 to 80 pct of ideal density. Specimens were self-resistance heated in a vacuum sintering bell. Temperatures were measured with an L&N, disappearing filament optical pyrometer. True temperatures were read at the base of an 0.30-in.-diam, 0.150-in. deep hole drilled into the center of a presintered bar. Apparent temperatures were read from the surface of the bar adjacent to the hole. MELTING POINT DETERMINATION The melting temperature of the metals was determined as the temperature at which a slight additional increase in current through the specimen resulted in a reduced temperature at the base of the hole. Reactions of gold?phosphino complexes [(AuX)(PR3)] (X= Cl, Br, I; R = organic rest) with Se(SiMe3)2 lead to the formation of gold complexes with chalcogenide bridges. The reaction of the complex Ph3PAuCl and tBuSe(SiMe3) gives the cluster [Au5Se2(PPh3)4]Cl 1. The in situ preparation of the complex [(AuCl)2dpph] (dpph = Ph2P(CH2)6PPh2) by reaction of dpph with Me2SAuCl, and subsequent reaction with Se(SiMe3)2 leads to the formation of [(Au3Se)2(dpph)3]Cl2 2. Reactions of the gold(I) complex [(AuCl)2dpppe], (dpppe = Ph2P(CH2)5PPh2) with Se(SiMe3)2 and InCl3 in different molar ratios lead to the formation of [Au10Se4(dpppe)4]InCl5 3 and [Au4(SeInCl3)2(dpppe)2] 4. The reaction of [(AuCl)2dpph] with Te(SiMe3)2 and GaCl3 produces the isostructural cluster compound [Au4(TeGaCl3)2(dpph)2] 5. From the reaction of Se(SiMe3)2 with [(AuCl)2dppe] (dppe = Ph2P(CH2)2PPh2) and InCl3 [Au8Se4In(dppe)4](InCl4)3 6 can be isolated. The structures of 1 - 6 were determined by X?ray diffraction.

Em serviços de radioterapia são utilizados acessórios confeccionados com diversos tipos de polímeros para auxiliar no posicionamento dos pacientes durante o tratamento e na execução das rotinas de trabalho. A radiação gama pode causar nos polímeros degradação de sua estrutura molecular, dificultar a sua na assepsia e seu reduzir o tempo de vida útil. Neste trabalho é apresentado o estudo da degradação causada pela exposição à radiação gama em polímeros utilizados em serviços de radioterapia. Amostras de policarbonato (PC) e polipropileno (PP), foram expostas a doses de radiação gama de 5 kGy e 25 kGy, sendo analisadas por espectrometria de absorção na região do infravermelho e indentação instrumentada. O PC apresentou indícios de fragilização a partir de 5 kGy, reduzindo o tempo de vida útil e o PP apresentou se adequado para o uso em serviços onde haja exposição à radiação gama.

KINETICS and mechanism of sulfation reactions have been studied extensively. Qualitative and quantitative data are reported for the kinetics and mechanism of sulfation reaction of copper oxide pellets;&apos;&apos;2 yet it remains a controversial Subject. The mechanism and kinetics of the sulfation of zinc oxide powder (B.D.H. analar quality) were studied by gravimetric technique. A spring of high-carbon steel wire with accuracy well within 0.2 mg was used for measuring weight change. The sample was taken in a Pyrex glass bucket, hanging freely inside a Pyrex glass tube reactor, with a gold wire attached to the spring, the reactor being surrounded by a movable furnace (double wound type) with a temperature control within *5"C. Flow of oxygen, 60 cu cm per min, and sulfur dioxide, 45 cu cm per min, were measured through calibrated flowmeters and the mixture dried over PZ05 before entering the reactor. The experimental results are presented in Figs. 1 and 2. The plot of weight change of zinc oxide, giving the amount of zinc sulfate formed, was found to be linear over the temperature range of 500" to 700° C and up to a conversion of approximately 60 pct, as beyond it they divert from linearity.&apos; The rate of sulfation was found to be affected by total flow rate of gases at a fixed ratio of SO2/O2, up to 60 cu cm per min, and was found to be linearly dependent on quantity of total powdered sample taken. The plot of rate of sulfation of zinc oxide, 70 mg, with varying amounts of vanadium pentoxide, at a constant ratio of gases as mentioned above, and at a constant temperature of 625"C, was also found to be linear as seen in Fig. 2. Extrapolation to zero V2O5 addition gives the same rate of sulfation, as in case of pure zinc oxide, 70 mg. Vz05 was prepared by heating ammonium vanadate at 600°C for 15 min in a muffle furnace. The available literature points out that the theory of sulfation that has received the maximum support postulates the following mechanism for sulfation of ZnS: 2ZnS + 30, = 2Zn0 + 2SOZ; the ZnO formed acts as a catalyst for the reaction, 2 S02 + O2 = 2S03. This SO3 reacts with ZnO to give zinc sulfate. It is suggested here that the above widely supported mechanism is operative in the sulfation reaction and that the rate-controlling step in the sulfation reaction of ZnO is the formation of SO3 from SO, and 0,. Rotas hidrometalúrgicas para o beneficiamento do minério de cobre vem sendo estudadas a fim de substituir o processo tradicional por pirometalurgia. No entanto, o uso de soluções lixiviantes como o ácido sulfúrico e a amônia são considerados ambientalmente desfavoráveis ao processo e descarte. Além disso, durante a lixiviação do cobre também ocorre a lixiviação do ferro. O uso de glicina como agente lixiviante é uma alternativa de baixo impacto ambiental já que é um aminoácido capaz de ser metabolizado por organismos vivos. Na lixiviação, a glicina apresenta a capacidade de formar um complexo quelante apenas com o íon Cu2+. Esse trabalho buscou avaliar a capacidade de lixiviação de um minério de cobre concentrado proveniente do Peru. Para isso, três concentrações de glicina em meio aquoso foram avaliadas nas temperaturas de 25ºC (48 horas de contato) e 60ºC (duas horas de contato). O pH da solução foi mantido entre 10,5 e 11 com adição de hidróxido de sódio. Foi possível lixiviar acima de 30% do cobre usando 0,8M de glicina na solução e em ambas as temperaturas de estudo. Além disso, a lixiviação do ferro ficou abaixo de 0,6% mostrando a seletividade da glicina para o cobre durante a lixiviação.

A CSN possui 4 linhas de estanhamento eletrolítico (LEE) com capacidade de produção de 700 kt/ano de Folha de Flandres, nas quais durante o processo de estanhamento podem ocorrer desvios de qualidade que impactam no custo final do produto, afetando diretamente o custo de transformação da folha-de-flandres. Um destes desvios são as manchas superficiais (MS), caracterizadas por manchas na superfície do revestimento da Folha de Flandres que prejudicam o aspecto final do produto. O objetivo deste projeto foi reduzir o índice de desvio NOK por manchas superficiais das Linhas de Estanhamento 5 e 6 de 0,28% para 0,14% até abril de 2013. O projeto foi realizado utilizando a metodologia Lean Seis Sigma, obtida pela união do “Lean Manufacturing”, que visa a eliminação de desperdícios durante o processo produtivo e o Seis Sigma como uma estratégia gerencial que busca a maximização do desempenho dos processos. A metodologia é dividida em cinco etapas: Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve e Control. Após a conclusão do projeto observamos uma redução de 65% no índice de desvio do defeito em relação à média do ano anterior (2012). Com esta redução obtivemos um ganho financeiro de R$212.000,00. Este projeto também serviu como projeto de Certificação de especialista Green Belt.
