Os pós fluxantes são formados por escórias sintéticas que em contato com o aço líquido deve fundir e gerar uma escória líquida. Suas principais funções são: lubrificar e controlar a transferência de calor entre a casca sólida do metal e o molde. Eles possuem composições diferentes para diferentes condições de lingotamento, sendo formados, basicamente, por CaO, SiO2, Al2O3, Na2O, CaF2 e podem conter MgO, Li2O, K2O e B2O3. Como alguns componentes influenciam diretamente na cristalinidade dos fluxantes, como o CaO, o MgO, o CaF2, neste trabalho serão analisadas quatro misturas de pós fluxantes com leves variações na composição de modo que possa gerar cristalinidades diferentes. Para esta análise será utilizada o método de lâminas delgadas, com auxílio de um microscópio óptico de luz transmitida, que tem apresentado resultados bem satisfatório sobre o detalhamento da cristalinidade dos materiais.

The separation and beneficiation of low grade collophanite has long been a technical challenge in phosphorous production. It requires the joint efforts of process design, reagents optimisation and operational control. In this study, the statistical response surface method was applied for determining the optimum reagent dosing in the flocculate flotation of a low grade (18.59%) collophanite ore. The dosage of three reagents, including a pH regulator (Na2CO3), depressant (Na2SiO3) and flocculant (modified starch), were input parameters of the modelling design. Two quadratic mathematical models were derived for prediction of grade and recovery based on the statistical design. Statistical analysis of the experimental results validates the reliability of the models. Through further calculation, the optimum dosage of the three reagents were found to be 3,020g/t Na2CO3, 1,990g/t Na2SiO3 and 880g/t modified starch, with which a maximum recovery of 75.81% and P2O5 grade of 30.08% was obtained from flocculate flotation test. "The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), a concept that combines sensor networks and control systems, has been employed in several industries to improve productivity and safety. U.S. National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) researchers are investigating IIoT applications to identify the challenges of and potential solutions for transferring IIoT from other industries to the mining industry. Specifically, NIOSH has reviewed existing sensors and communications network systems used in U.S. underground coal mines to determine whether they are capable of supporting IIoT systems. The results show that about 40 percent of the installed post-accident communication systems as of 2014 require minimal or no modification to support IIoT applications. NIOSH researchers also developed an IIoT monitoring and control prototype system using low-cost microcontroller Wi-Fi boards to detect a door opening on a refuge alternative, activate fans located inside the Pittsburgh Experimental Mine and actuate an alarm beacon on the surface. The results of this feasibility study can be used to explore IIoT applications in underground coal mines based on existing communication and tracking infrastructure.IntroductionThe U.S. approach to health and safety in mining has historically been reactive in the sense that health and safety regulations and mandates have traditionally been passed as a result of tragic mining accidents. An example of this is the Mine Improvement and New Emergency Response Act (MINER Act) of 2006, which was passed as a result of several mining accidents where tracking of and communication with underground personnel were severely limited. While this reactive approach has led to the development and implementation of highly impactful safety interventions and safety practices, there exists a technological revolution that can shift the paradigm toward a proactive approach based on preventative methods: Internet of Things (IoT).IoT is the network of physical objects, or “things,” embedded with electronics, sensors and connectivity to enable that network to achieve greater value and service by exchanging data with the manufacturer, operator and/or other connected devices (Atzori, Iera and Morabito, 2010; Gubbi et al. 2013). It should be noted that IoT has been defined from various perspectives, and hence numerous definitions exist in the literature. The apparent ambiguity of the IoT definition might be due to the fact that IoT is syntactically composed of two terms: the Internet and things. The first word pushes toward a network-oriented vision, while the second tends to put the focus on generic objects. The traditional Internet can be viewed as an internet of computers, so things connected to the Internet are computers only. IoT extends the internet by allowing other generic things that are commonly found in daily life, such as refrigerators and cars, to be interconnected through the Internet, thus creating a bridge between the virtual world and the physical world"

O desenvolvimento de aços baixa liga e alta resistência (ARBL) tornou-se um desafio constante para a indústria. Enfoques como o aumento de resistência mecânica para espessuras menores tem um forte apelo técnico-científico. Modificações na composição química bem como o refino de grão são ações que apresentam um benéfico sinergismo neste sentido. Um elemento que atua nos dois sentidos supracitados é o nióbio (Nb), pois sua presença na composição química durante o processamento termomecânico promove o refino de grão e possibilita a obtenção de chapas de menores espessuras e com excelentes propriedades mecânicas. Entretanto, a adição do Nb como elemento de liga ficou restrita a percentuais em peso abaixo de 0.05%, devido à redução na soldabilidade encontrada em aços desenvolvidos com técnicas ineficientes de redução do carbono. Contudo, com técnicas mais efetivas de redução utilizadas na aciaria, torna uma alternativa o desenvolvimento de aços com maiores percentuais em peso de Nb, visando a produção de aços com maior resistência mecânica, menores espessuras e com boa soldabilidade. O objetivo do trabalho é apresentar resultados acerca da influência do Nb soldabilidade de um aço API 5L X70.

This paper proposes two units (believed to be new) for designating, respectively, capacity and efficiency for primary and intermediate crushers. Capacity Operators know that the tonnage of rock that can be put through a particular crusher in a given time depends primarily upon the crusher setting (open setting for jaw and primary gyratory types; closed setting for cones and rolls), and secondarily on the lithological character of the feed, its maximum size, the amount of fines that it carries, its moisture content, and the method of feeding. The proposed capacity formula states a relationship between all of these factors in one empirical equation, as follows: Tr = TR80K'K" [I] in which Tr, called "reduction tons per hour" is the new capacity unit; T = tons of feed per hour requiring crushing; R80 = "80-per cent reduction ratio"; and K, K', and K" are constants that approximate quantitatively lithological character, moisture content and method of feeding, respectively. T is the hourly weight of material in the feed that is coarser than the coarsest discharge of the crusher. (For marked departures from the normal specific-gravity range—2.5 to 2.7—T should be adjusted to corresponding volumes.) In the crushers under consideration, discharge from the crushing zone is limited by the minimum dimension of a particle. Passage of the particle through a square-mesh screen is limited by its intermediate dimension. Sheppardl has shown that the ratio of maximum: intermediate: minimum average dimensions of broken rock fragments may be taken as about 1.5:=:0,6 for nonslabby rocks such as are normally crushed, while for slabby rocks, such as thin-bedded sedimentaries, foliated schists and gneisses, and the blocky metamorphics, the ratio is of the average order I.3:I:o.3, with the possibility of an even smaller relative value for the thickness. Gaudin2 finds the corresponding ratio for —I50 + 200-mesh pyrite to be I.4: I:0.6. The hourly tonnage of crusher-plant feed, therefore, should be diminished by the amount thereof that would pass a square-mesh screen of which the aperture is S times the crusher setting, where S is a shape factor with the value 1.7 for rocks that break exceptionally cubic; 2 for ores and rocks that exhibit no appreciabie tendency to slabbiness; and 2.5 to 3, or, in exceptional cases, even larger, when the tendency to slabbiness is marked. For thermodynamic prediction, the deoxidation equilibrium of aluminum in Fe-36%Ni alloy was studied with a cold crucible under Ar gas atmosphere at 1773K. For the deoxidation reaction in liquid Fe-36%Ni base, i.e.: A12O3(s) = 2A1 + 3O The interaction parameters and the equilibrium constant between aluminum and oxygen in liquid Fe-36%Ni alloy are given in the following: eo Al = -3.8, roA1=0.9, eAl° = -6.4, rAl° = 700, rAIAIo = 3.1, roA1o = 833 within the composition range of [Al] < 1 mass%. The temperature dependence of the equilibrium constant was obtained in the range of 1773K < T < 1973K by using reported data and present results as follows: log KAo= 0.58-24463.7 / T The deoxidation equilibrium with aluminum in Fe-36%Ni could be thermodynamically well described in the range up [Al] < 1 mass% with first and second order interaction parameters as well as the equilibrium constant determined in this study.

Annual requirements of uranium to fuel the 441 currently operating nuclear reactors in the world is 170 million pounds U3O8 (65,385 tonnes U). 2005 global production was 108 million pounds (41,595 t U), of which only 2.7 million pounds U3O8 (1,039 t U), was produced from US uranium deposits. US nuclear utilities represent 26% of the global nuclear capacity but only obtain 2.5% of their supply from US uranium mines. Since 2002 annual global production increased from 93 million pounds U3O8, a 15% increase and the US production increased from 2.3 million pounds to 2.7 million pounds, a 17% increase. Reasonably Assured Resources (RAR) of 12,332 million pounds U3O8 (4.7 million t U) are reported from a wide variety of countries and types of uranium deposits. This RAR suggests that there are significant global uranium resources potentially producible at a price of $50 per pound U3O8 ($130 per kg U). Table 1 shows the distribution of global uranium resources. This table, prepared from historic data maintained by the World Nuclear Association, does not include some areas of the world that are currently considered to contain significant resources of uranium such as Mongolia. Table 1 suggests that the United States contains the fourth largest uranium resource in the world with 890 million pounds U3O8, behind Australia, Kazakhstan and Canada in resources that are producible at a price of $50 per pound U3O8 ($130 per kg U). Within the US, the states that demonstrate the greatest amount of uranium resource are Wyoming, New Mexico, Texas and the Four Corners Area of Arizona, Colorado and Utah.

O vapor de processo tem uma capacidade de produção de 90 t/h, atualmente tem uma produção em média de 65 t/h para fornecer aos consumidores da usina, a energia elétrica tem a capacidade de produzir 200 MWh, atualmente tem uma produção em média de 155 MWh, como o consumo interno do complexo siderúrgico é de 138 MWh médios, a energia elétrica excedente cerca de 17 MWh médios é fornecida para o sistema elétrica nacional, gerando uma receita para empresa com a venda de energia elétrica. A termoelétrica teve um papel importante para o início das operações do complexo siderúrgico pois para as áreas começarem a produzir era necessário o fornecimento de vapor de processo e energia elétrica.

O efeito do caminho de solidificação de um aço High Temperature Processing (HTP) API 5L X65 com 0,09 %Nb, 0,039%C e 0,54% Mn (percentagem em massa) na segregação, microestrutura e distribuição dos precipitados de Ti,Nb(C,N) foi estudado por microscopia ótica, eletrônica de varredura (MEV) e simulação computacional (ThermoCalc e DICTRA). Os resultados foram comparados com os de um aço microligado comercial com 0,04 %Nb, 0,09%C e 0,97 %Mn. Foi encontrado que o principal parâmetro que influencia no caminho de solidificação é o teor de C, o que está de acordo com a maior micro e macrossegregação observada no aço microligado comercial, em comparação ao aço HTP.

Este trabalho objetiva o estudo da influência da adição de fibras vegetais de bambu e cana-de-açúcar nas propriedades mecânicas do concreto. Para este trabalho foram confeccionados corpos-de-prova cilíndricos e prismáticos nos quais foram adicionados 2% e 5% em volume das fibras à massa do concreto. Após a cura, conforme NBR 5738 (2003) [1], os mesmos foram testados via ensaios de resistência à compressão conforme NBR 5739 (2007) [2], resistência à tração por compressão diametral, conforme NBR 7222 (2011) [3], resistência à tração na flexão conforme NBR 12142 (2010) [4] e módulo de elasticidade estático, conforme NBR 8522(2008) [5]. Verificou-se após os testes que todos os concretos produzidos atenderam a resistência mínima a compressão de 20 MPa, recomendado pela NBR 6118 (2003) [6] para fins estruturais. Foi observado um aumento da resistência à compressão em relação à mistura padrão. O concreto com adição de fibras de bambu apresentou melhor resistência mecânica em relação ao concreto com adição das fibras de cana-de-açúcar e ao concreto sem adição.

An amphoteric collector was tested for dolomite removal from phosphate ore. The effects of some operating parameters and their significance on the flotation of dolomite were studied using statistically designed experiments. The parameters studied were impeller speed, pH and collector dosage. Analysis of the results showed that pH is the most significant parameter. Moreover, a concentrate containing 0.53% MgO and ~31.1% P2O5 with a recovery of ~ 90% can be achieved at optimum values of studied parameters, i.e., a pH of 12, an impeller speed of 1,000 rpm and a collector dosage of 2.5 kg/t.

"There are increasingly stricter environmental regulations imposed for use of cyanide leaching for the extraction of gold from ores. Alternative lixiviants to cyanide, preferably with low toxicity, have been extensively studied. Thiosulphate has emerged as one of the most suitable alternative leaching agent in place of cyanide due to its low toxicity and technical attributes e.g. fast leaching kinetics, high gold extractions from carbonaceous ores in particular. High solubility of most copper minerals in cyanide solutions results in low gold extractions due to excessively high consumption of cyanide. In contrast, low reactivity of copper minerals in thiosulphate solutions makes thiosulphate leaching potentially suitable alternative for treatment Cu-bearing gold ores. The extraction of gold/silver from a copper-bearing pyritic gold concentrate (62 g/t Au, 110 g/t Ag and 0.3% Cu) in thiosulphate solutions was investigated in this study. The concentrate is composed of predominantly quartz (25%) and pyrite (32.7%) as well as sphalerite (5.37%), galena (2.12%) and anglesite (1.13%). Other minor minerals are arsenopyrite, chalcopyrite, covellite and bournonite. Previous studies by the authors indicated that the concentrate did not respond well to cyanide leaching (i.e. 45-46% Au/Ag at 1 g/L NaCN). The effects of concentration of ammonia (0.2-1.5 M NH3), thiosulphate (0.1-0.75 M S2O3) and copper (0-20 mM CuSO4) on the extraction of gold and silver over 8 h. was investigated. Increasing the concentration of thiosulphate and ammonia substantially improved the rate and extent of gold leaching while high copper levels produced an adverse effect particularly at low concentration of thiosulphate (i.e. 0.1 M). Complete extraction of gold was achieved under suitable conditions. In contrast to gold, silver extractions remained consistently at low levels (i.e. 28%). These findings demonstrated that thiosulphate leaching could be used to achieve acceptable levels of gold extraction from the copper-bearing pyritic gold concentrate."

The aim of this research is the study of the WHIMS parameters on the improving process of a local (DD: Djebel Debbagh, East of Algeria) kaolin. The obtained results of performed XRF, SEM, and XRD characterization showed that this local material is an alumino-silicate containing kaolinite and halloysite with MnO and Fe2O3 impurities (respectively 39.30% and 34.67% alumina and 38.18% and 39.70% silica in both samples (DD2 and DD3). After homogenization, crushing, and milling, a multiparameters factorial experimentation (grain sizes, intensity, and dimension of matrix balls) showed that WHIMS is an effective process to improve the quality of this kaolin, mainly: removing their impurities. Dimensions of matrix balls (Db) = 2 cm, intensity of the applied magnetic field (I) = 1.5 T, and grain sizes (Dp) = > 100 < 250 μm) are the optimal values to reach 91.06% for manganese and 93.45% for iron as removing yield. The statistical analysis of these results sorted the investigation parameters and showed that Db has the highest and most significant influence on the recovery of iron and manganese particles. The magnetic field intensity (I) has a less important influence while the grain size has an average influence (positive on the iron recovery but a negative one on the recovery of manganese).

Com a perspectiva do uso de aços API em ambientes sour service, o controle de inclusões e precipitados é essencial para bom desempenho. A precipitação de carbonetos e nitretos de Nb e Ti, assim como a formação do MnS foram analisados criticamente em aços de alta resistência e baixa liga – HSLA- com Mn entre 0,3 e 1,6%, Nb 0,02-0,1%, S 0,001-0,005% e Ti 0-0,02% em peso. Os valores da temperatura de precipitação do MnS, Nb(C,N) e Ti(C,N) foram obtidos por meio do software ThermoCalc™. A partir desses resultados, possíveis tendências da precipitação foram discutidas e relacionadas com a temperatura de não-recristalização, traçando um comparativo entre temperaturas de processo e precipitação. Três aços produzidos com a composição estudada atenderam os requisitos mecânicos de tração da norma API 5L X65M.

O presente trabalho tem como objetivo mostrar os ganhos financeiros e produtivos do Laminador de Aços Longos da CSN através da otimização do plano de passes. Analisando a árvore de calibração identificamos a possibilidade de ganhos com a unificação de famílias de bitolas. No laminador temos duas famílias: Família Ø 5,5 mm (bitolas 5,5; 7,0; 9,0; 11,0; 14,30) e Família Ø6,3mm (bitolas 6,3; 8; 10; 12,5 e 16) para a fabricação destas bitolas utilizamos até 18 passes no laminador duo horizontal/vertical e mais ate 10 passes no laminador acabador cantilever. Após um estudo detalhado do plano de passes existente, verificou-se a possibilidade da eliminação e unificação de passes entre as duas famílias. Para corroborar as alterações propostas, decidiu-se utilizar um modelo matemático que representasse os passes e realizasse os cálculos para verificar as reduções e capacidades dos equipamentos visando minimizar os riscos e custos adicionais com modificações de ferramental. Após mais de 60 horas de simulações e testes, foi desenhado um novo plano de passes para a Laminação eliminando-se a necessidade de troca de 8 cadeiras, o que representa um aumento de 6 horas no tempo disponível para produção por mês e também a redução de 8 pares de cilindros de laminação, redução de guias e roletes, e tempo de preparação na oficina de cilindros. Só após verificação e aprovação desta etapa foram iniciados os testes no laminador que confirmaram os resultados obtidos nas simulações.

Foram realizados testes industriais com cerca de uma tonelada de pó fluxante com teor de flúor da ordem de 1,0%, denominado ultrabaixo teor de flúor (UBF). O testes foram realizados em 29 corridas de aços com baixo teor de carbono acalmados ao alumínio (AA BC) na Aciaria 2 da Usiminas em Ipatinga. Ao longo do processamento industrial, os dados operacionais foram analisados, coletadas amostras para avaliação das propriedades físico-químicas da escória líquida e as válvulas submersas foram separadas para medir a taxa de desgaste. Tanto as caracterizações realizadas quanto o desempenho industrial evidenciaram que as propriedades relativas à taxa de fusão, lubrificação e cristalização estão de acordo com as necessidades operacionais para a produção de aços AA BC. Por fim, os resultados de desgaste da válvula submersa mostram um ganho significativo com o uso do pó fluxante UBF. A taxa média de desgaste foi aproximadamente 40% inferior à obtida com o uso do pó fluxante comercial (teor de flúor na ordem de 7,5%).

A empresa opera uma planta em Pisco, com uma aciaria para 850.000 t anuais de aço líquido, e uma capacidade de laminação de 1.250.000 t anuais de produtos longos. Um projeto de integração vertical incluindo coqueria non-recovery, sinterização e alto-forno foi considerado. Como parte do projeto, um forno piloto de coqueificação foi instalado, com o intuito de testar carvões próprios e importados e obter a máxima participação de carvão local nas misturas. Foram testados sez carvões peruanos e antracito. Os carvões importados escolhidos foram três da Colômbia e quatro dos Estados Unidos. Levando em conta as baixas propriedades dos carvões próprios, foi introduzida a estampagem da carga. A máxima participação dos carvões locais, mantendo a qualidade requerida, foi obtida com 80% de carvão peruano, e 20% de um carvão columbiano. Pode-se usar até 10% de antracito, junto a 60% de carvão peruano e 30% de carvão colombiano.
