Gold extraction using iodide leaching from refractory carbonaceous gold ores was studied. Thermodynamic analysis of iodide leaching chemistry had been carried out. Eh-pH diagram of Au-I2-I--H2O leaching system showed that the coordinating active forms from iodides were I3- and I-, while the major coordinate compound formed during iodide leaching was AuI-. For leaching parameters optimization, technological parameters such as I2 concentration, I2 :I- ratio, oxidation assisting agents, liquid/solid ratio, and leaching duration were studied. The leaching results showed that the average Au leaching rate reached 91% and 92% for oxidized ore and roasted primary ore respectively. Leaching process proceeded in weekly acidic or neutral slurry at ambient temperature; the leaching duration was 4 hours. After that gold was extracted from the pregnant liquor by activated carbon adsorption ? desorption ? electrowinning process. Gold recovery was over 93% in the adsorption process, while the gold recovery in electrowinning process was about 95%, provided that the initial gold concentration is 40mg/L or larger. For iodine regeneration it is enough to add hydrogen peroxide in excess into the filtrate after gold electrowinning, all the iodides existing in the solution in any forms would be precipitated in the form of elemental iodine.

Thiosulfate leaching as an environmentally benign alternative to cyanide leaching has received particular attention in recent years. Most studies have focused on thiosulfate leaching of free milling ores and, to some extent, pregrobbing ores. In this study, leaching of gold from the refractory Kaletas ore (in which gold/silver alloy is the only mode of occurrence detected) in ammoniacal thiosulfate solutions was studied. A two-level full factorial design (23) was adopted to investigate the effects of concentration of thiosulfate (0.2-1 M Na2S2O3), ammonia (0.5-1 M NH3) and copper (0.05-0.1 M CuSO4) on the extraction of gold from a ground ore (-38 µm) over a period of 24 h. Statistical analysis confirmed the leaching of gold improved with increasing concentrations of thiosulfate and ammonia. In contrast, increasing the concentration of copper in the range tested adversely affected the extraction of gold. The magnitude of effects of parameters on the gold extraction was in the order of Na2S2O3 > NH3 > CuSO4. The maximum extraction of gold (69.6%) was obtained in the presence of 1 M Na2S2O3, 1 M NH3 and 0.05 M CuSO4. The negative influence of copper on gold extraction is most likely attributed to the decomposition of thiosulfate catalyzed by copper. Concentration of thiosulfate was also identified to be statistically the most important parameter for its consumption.

An albitization granite type tantalum-niobium ore from Jiangxi Province, China was taken as the research object in this paper. The main valuable minerals in this ore are tantalite-columbite and uranmicrolite, and the minerals that can be comprehensively recovered include cassiterite, sulfide minerals, topaz, zinnwaldite, and quartz-feldspar. Based on the research results of process mineralogy, the roughing process of gravity separation for coarse particles combined with flotation for fine particles is proposed. The combined cleaning process of flotation-gravity-magnetic-electric-hydrometallurgical separation is adopted for the rough concentrate of gravity separation while the combined cleaning process of gravity-flotation- hydrometallurgical separation is adopted for the rough concentrate of flotation. High intensity magnetic separation is used to separate and recover zinnwaldite and quartz-feldspar from gravity tailings. By mineral processing for the crude ore containing (TaNb)cassiterite concentrate is 0.0003% with a grade of Sn 63.22% and a recovery of Sn 47.42% while the yield of sulfide concentrate is 0.0783% with a grade of Pb 33.15% and Zn 27.09% which can be separated to get lead and zinc concentrate respectively. The yield of topaz concentrate is 0.1545% and the topaz mainly distributed in the size range of -0.4+0.074mm, which can be made into abrasive products of different particle sizes after classification. The yield of zinnwaldite concentrate is 16.91% with a grade of Liwhiteness of 75%, which is a glass-ceramic material of good quality. 2O5 0.0346%, Sn 0.04%, Pb 0.10% and Zn 0.33%, the tantalum-niobium concentrate with a yield of 0.00278%,a grade of (TaNb)2O5 53.61% and a recovery of (TaNb)2O5 44.49% is obtained. And the yield of 2O 1.34% and Rb2O 0.40%. The yield of quartz-feldspar concentrate is 30.42% with a grade of K2O+Na2O 8.98% and Fe2O3 0.11% and a natural All of tantalum, niobium, cassiterite, topaz, zinnwaldite, quartz, and feldspar are recovered effectively. "In this investigation, a sponge gold sample (99.92% pure) has been leached with ammonium thiosulfate solution. The effects of CuSO4, (NH4)2S2O3, (NH4)2SO4, NH4OH and retention time on the gold leaching % (extraction %) and thiosulfate oxidation % (consumption %) have been studied. The copper ion acts as a catalyst in gold dissolution. On the other hand, it also accelerates oxidation of thiosulfate (consumption). It was found in this study that the best gold extraction condition was obtained at 43.2 ks with 0.8 - 1.0x103 mol/m3 (NH4)2S2O3, 30 mol/m3 CuSO4, 2.0 - 3.0x103 mol/m3 NH4OH, 0.4 - 0.5x103 mol/m3 (NH4)2SO4, pH 10±0.2 and 150 rpm. The thiosulfate oxidation was about 15% of the initial concentration.For gold recovery from the pregnant solution, the trioctylmethyl ammonium chloride (TOMAC) was used in this investigation as an extractant to extract gold from thiosulfate solution without pH and other adjustments. The effects of gold concentration, pH, ammonia, thiosulfate and cupric ionic concentrations, extractant and diluent concentrations and retention time on the gold recovery were investigated. It was found that 180 mol/m3 extractant diluted with n-octant at O/A ratio of 1:1 could extracted the 100% of gold in 0.6 ks from the thiosulfate solution at the optimal leaching conditions. The 100% gold stripping could be achieved with 10% thiourea solution."

Polymetallic sea nodule is a good source of manganese having 22.3% Mn, 5.4% Fe, 6.14% Si, 1.1% Cu, 1.15% Ni, 0.076% Co & others. These nodules are available in plenty on the sea beds, generated over thousands of years. Nodules mainly consist of manganese dioxide and iron oxide phases and other metals are entrapped in the complex cage of these Mn-Fe oxides phases.World-wide research is going on sea nodules as an alternative future source of many metals, which has led to intensified efforts to develop practical and economical processes for recovery of these metals. Very little attempt has been made world over on manganese extraction from sea nodules. We at CSIR-NML, India have developed a direct reduction smelting process of nodules to recover manganese as Fe-Si-Mn alloy. This alloy is extensively used in the steel industry as deoxidizer and as an alloying element to make different grades of steel. Lab scale experiments were conducted to study the manganese distribution between Fe-Si-Mn alloy and FeO-SiO2-MnO-CaO-Al2O3-MgO slag at different temperatures by varying the basicity of the slag. The direct reduction smelting of nodules is carried out on 1 kg scale in 50 kVA electric arc furnaces to have Cu, Ni and Co alloy and Mn rich slag. This manganese rich slag is further treated in 50 kVA arc furnace to produce Fe-Si-Mn alloy. The composition of Fe-Si-Mn alloy obtained is in the range of Mn: 60-65%, Si: 14-17%, C: 1- 2%, S: 0.03% and the balance iron which is acceptable grade for industrial use. The equilibrium amount of MnO in the final slag is controlled by the temperature of the final melt and the silica, lime, alumina content of the final slag. Increasing the basicity of the slag plays a major role in minimizing the loss of MnO to slag, increasing the amount of SiO2 of the slag, increases the manganese loss in the slag. Taknar polymetal (Cu-Zn-Au-Ag-Pb) deposit and concentration flotation plant are located in the northeast of Iran. The flotation feed contains Chalcopyrite, sphalerite and pyrite with 4, 4 and 8 percent respectively. Cu and Zn contents are 1.26 and 3.5 present. Pyrite decreases the quality of base metal concentrates and increases the amount of sulfur compounds produced in the base metal extraction processes. Therefore, depression of pyrite is essential in the concentration of base metal sulfides by flotation. For flotation tests, 4 mixed collector systems, MIBC (20g/t), lime and tow depression systems (sodium cyanide (60g/t)-zinc sulphate and dextrin (300g/t)-zinc sulphate) were used as collector, frother, pH regulator and pyrite-sphalerite depressants in the chalcopyrite flotation stage, respectively, and SIPX, MIBC, lime and copper sulphate (as activator) were used in sphalerite flotation from first stage tailings. The results have shown that, sodium cyanide is a suitable depressant for pyrite and sphalerite in the first stage of flotation. Compared to dextrin as depressant, chalcopyrite recovery was decreased approximately 1.83%. In addition, when sodium cyanide was used as pyrite depressant, copper sulphate consumption raised approximately 90 g/t for activation of sphalerite. From Environment and HSE points of view, dextrin is natural, biodegradable, and non-toxic while cyanide is very high toxic. "The paper presents the results of research on the development of gold and silver extraction technology from refractory gold sulphide flotation concentrate of one deposits of Nord-East of Russia. The concentrate is due to the complex mineral composition. Gold and silver are finely disseminated in sulphide minerals (arsenopyrite and pyrite partially oxidized by 7-11%). These are characterized by high content of silver 219 g/t and sulphide sulfur 32%, the presence of poorly soluble silver minerals (silver sulfosalts, fahlore, finely dispersed hypergenic acanthite in iron hydroxides and jarosite, etc.), and impurity minerals capable of interacting with cyanide (pyrrhotite, marcasite, nonferrous sulphides) and causing higher than normal cyanide consumption. Pretreatment of refractory sulphide concentrate by biooxidation using a mixed association of mesophilic and moderately thermophilic bacteria at a temperature of 36-40 °C for 120 hours oxidized arsenopyrite by 97.5%, pyrite by 93.5%, unlocked refractory gold, and generally oxidized the minerals absorbing cyanide and oxygen before cyanidation. Further oxidation of these minerals-absorbents was facilitated by the aeration in calcareous medium of the solid biooxidation residues of the concentrate. Sorption cyanidation of the solid biooxidation residues with addition of lead (II) of recovered 91.2% of gold and 82.9% silver from biooxidation residue, compared with 80.1% and 46.6%, respectively, for sorption cyanidation without the preceding biooxidation step. Biooxidation of the concentrate prior to cyanidation improves the recovery of precious metals, especially silver, and significantly reduces cyanide consumption from 18.7 kg/t to 3-5 kg/t of concentrate. INTRODUCTION Biooxidation of gold sulphide concentrates using acidophilic microorganisms has been successfully applied worldwide (van Aswegen et al., 2007; Gericke et al., 2009; Sovmen et al., 2007; Sovmen et al., 2009). At least 15 full-scale plants for tank biooxidation of sulphide concentrates are presently in operation, and the construction of new ones is planned (Bulaev et al, 2015)."

At the rougher flotation circuit of the Miduk copper concentration plant (Kerman, Iran) five column cells (CISA) with the diameter of 4m and height of 12m using static mixer type (MicrocelTM) spargers have been installed. Based on the initial design, columns should accept a feed rate of 625 t/h with 80% passing size of 90 µm and solids concentration of 28% and produce 88% of the plant concentrate (i.e., 22 t/h) containing 32% copper. Due to mechanical and processing problems this objective was never realized and theses columns were remained out of operation from the commissioning time (2005). A new attempt with the aim of returning these cells into operation started in 2013. The results of an extensive study indicated that spargers plugging due to the entrance of small amount (2 kg) of coarse particles (up to 2.5 cm) because of usual problems at the plant environment was the main reason of columns non functionality. With a change in the recycle pump inlet design to the column, which prevented the entrance of coarse particles to the spargers, the operation of the column significantly improved. It was found that in order to have a stable operation of the columns at the rougher stage the feed rate for each column should be reduced from 125 (design) to 70 t/h. The air superficial rate had to be also reduced from 1.9 (design) to 0.6 cm/s. A period of 10 days of continuous operation showed that the carrying capacity was 0.23 (g/min/cm2) which was significantly lower that of the design value (i.e., 0.58). The gas hold up was found to be lower than 10% beyond which columns started to move to the turbulent state indicated by "boiling" froth. The average life time of spargers was determined to be 20 days which considered to be very short. The average recovery and concentrate grade of these columns were found to be 68% and 32%, respectively. The high wear rates of spargers, unusually high level of maintenance and supervision needed and instability of the operation made the plant managers not to use column cells as the roughers.

More complex and heavy-concentrating oxidized and mixed sulphidic oxidized ores are involved in production because of increasing needs for non-ferrous metals. Extraction of the oxidized minerals of non-ferrous metals general in current technologies. The problem is solved to oxidized polymetallic ores the preliminary selective sulphidization is the oxidized surface of the components by means of hydrogen sulphide, sulphide and calcium polysulphide, and also element sulphur, etc. The task was to study details of flotation of the oxidized lead-bearing ore of the Zarechnoe deposit (Kazakhstan) with calcium polysulphide as sulphidation. According to chemical analysis initial samples of the ore contain, %: lead – 4.8; zinc – 0.1; general iron – 0.81. Phase structure lead is characterized by the oxidized form of 57.76-64.5 %; by sulphidic status of 25.5-32.64 %, and by plyumboyarosite of 19.0-23.02 %. Researches on flotation beneficiation of oxidized lead-bearing ore are conducted. Sulfidizator gave to grinding, on flotations there were used the collector (butyl xanthogenate of sodium) and frother (T-80). Experiments were conducted with a new sulphidizator – calcium polysulphide. The latter is obtained by interaction of CaO calcium oxide with sulfur and water at high temperature with component mass the following ratio S:CaO:H2O =10:5:85. Extent of mill initial ore was optimised (88.42 % of - 0.071 mm grade). For the optimum mill mode the studies on matching of an optimized consumption of sulphidizators are performed. On basic technology with application of sulphide of sodium as a sulphidizator at optimum mill, the lead concentrate with the content of lead 64.4 % at extraction of 86.6 % was received. The content of cerussite in a concentrate was about 14.9 % at extraction of 82.1 %. With application of calcium polysulphide as a sulphidizator the lead concentrate with the content of lead 68.0 % at extraction of 88.0 % was received. The content of cerussite has made 16.0 % at extraction of 85.0 %. Application of a new sulphidizator allows to increase extraction of lead in a concentrate from 64.4% to 68% and cerussite extraction – from 82.1 % to 85.0 %. The possibility of application of calcium polysulphide as a sulphidizator instead of conventional sulphurous sodium was established.

"Studying the interaction of the phosphorus-containing flotation reagent with the components of the flotation system ""liquid-gas-solid"" during flotation of non-ferrous metal ores allows regulating the enrichment process. The phosphorus-containing reagent-collector anabasinium-O,O-dimethyl-thiophosphate has beensynthesized under laboratory conditions and the concentrated aqueous solution of anabasin hydrochloride and the 40% solution of sodium hydroxide have been used as the raw material. The phosphorus-containing reagent has been obtained by interaction of the anabasine base, sulfur and dimethyl phosphite, due to sulfur and nitrogen atoms it can form complex compounds with heavy metal ions.Studying flotation of copper-sulfide ore of the Sayak field with the use of the phosphorus-containing reagent-collector anabasinium has been performed in the open and closed cycles. The degree of ore grinding was 60- 62% of the class -0.074 mm. There has been established the dependence of the ore flotation parameters on: a) pH of the pulp; b) the consumption of the reagent-collector anabasinium.The effect of the pulp pH on the technological parameters of copper ore flotation has been carried out with a reagent regulator that increases the difference in the surface properties of the minerals to be separated.There has been used lime as the regulator of the medium, the consumption of which varied from 750 to 1500 g/t; the consumption of the reagent-collector anabasinium was 10, 15, 20 and 25 g/t.It has been found that when flotation of copper ore without the use of lime at pH equal to 7.8 and at the reagent consumption, g/t: anabasinium - 25, T-92 - 55, copper recovery in the concentrate is 92.72%, the quality of concentrate is 7, 1%.In flotation according to the factory mode (the consumption of xanthate is 44 g/t, T-92 is 55 g/t, pH = 7.8 (without lime)) of copper ore, copper recovery in the concentrate is 87.38%, the concentrate quality is 7, 97%, with reducing the xanthate consumption to 25 g/t copper recovery is reduced to 83.39%, the quality of the concentrate is up to 6.69%.In the experiments using the factory reagent mode in the closed cycle, with the xanthate mass consumption of 44 g/t, T-92 blowing agent of 55 g/t, the third recleaning concentrate contained 19.13% copper with recovery of 86.89%.Using a phosphorus-containing reagent instead of xanthate with the same flow rate, the third recleaning concentrate with the mass fraction of copper of 19.82% has beenobtained with recovery of 87.77%."

Copper-chromium mixed oxides are widely used as catalyst for organic chemicals industry, NOx and CO oxidation, solid propellant etc. In the present investigation, one such spent Cu-Cr catalyst has been tested for recovering copper and chromium values through hydrometallurgical route. The spent catalyst used in this study contains about 42% Cu and 36% Cr. Phase analysis through XRD indicates that major phases are copper chromium oxide (CuCrO2) and copper chromate (CuCr2O4) while minor phase is copper oxide (Cu64O). SEM images show that high energy ball milling changes surface morphology significantly ? more regular shaped grains in unmilled samples changed to fine agglomerates. Surface area also changes significantly due to milling. Preliminary leaching experiments with NH3 and H2SO4 media using unmilled samples indicate that both the media are suitable for selective extraction of copper. About 55% copper recovery is achieved in 2 h using 1.2 M NH3 + 0.2M (NH4)2SO4 solution at 100°C. Increasing NH3 concentration or temperature does not improve the recovery significantly. Under the above conditions chromium, dissolution is insignificant (max. 2.24%). XRD analysis of the residue indicates that copper chromate fraction (CuCr2O4), which is a spinel structure, remains mostly intact. In sulphuric acid media at ambient temperature, 47% copper recovery is achieved with 7.5% (v/v) H2SO4 and maximum of 57% with the increase in acid concentration to 20%. However, 67% recovery is achieved by increasing the leaching temperature to 150°C. High energy ball milled samples show improved leaching efficiency. Under the leaching conditions of 7% H2SO4 (v/v), 2% pulp density, 80°C an unmilled sample yields 47% Cu recovery whereas 3h and 5h milled samples yield 65% and 90% Cu recovery respectively in 2h leaching time. Influence of temperature is also more pronounced in milled sample leaching in comparison to unmilled sample. Water leaching of alkali (NaOH) roasted milled sample carried out at 750°C for 2 h with 100% NaOH (w/w) resulted in 80% Cr recovery as compared to 37% Cr recovery using unmilled sample under the same conditions. Modification of hydrophobic part of carboxylic collector molecule is an upcoming trend for producing new reagents and changing its flotation properties such as activity, selectivity, sensitivity to hardness salts that inevitably present in the pulp liquid phase in the processing of ores containing calcium minerals. A wide range of apatite collectors ? monoalkyl ethers and monoalkylamides of dicarboxylic acids ? succinic, o-phthalic and maleinic acids have been synthesized by the addition of aliphatic alcohols and amines with various hydrocarbon radical value (from ?11 to ?16) to anhydride of the corresponding acid. Using computer modeling based on ChemBio 3D program of specialized complex Chem?ffice the calculation was carried out of charge distribution on atoms, energy parameters of molecules for investigated compounds. Calculated values of absolute hardness (?=6.75 ? 12.36) and absolute electronegativity (?= 5.67 ? 8.90) of the reagents showed that monoderivatives of dicarboxylic acids refer to the ?hard? type of bases. The degree of a charge transfer during calcium compounds formation of considered collecting agents (?N=0.009 ? 0.143) has been computed. Dissociations, micelle formation in solutions of these reagents and its hydrophobic and collecting properties were investigated in respect to apatite. Dependence of bulk, surface and collector properties on collector molecule architecture (double bond or benzene ring and non-ionogenic functional group in the structure of hydrocarbon radical) has been established. It is shown that experimentally determined dissociation constants (??a=5.16 ? 5.60 for succinic acid derivatives and ??a=3.32-3.78 for maleinic and o-phthalic acid derivatives) perfectly correspond to acidic properties predicted by computer calculations. Compounds of monoalkylderivative dicarboxilic acid have been determined optimum in composition and structure. The results of apatite flotation from apatite-nepheline ores of the Khibiny deposit (the Kola Peninsula) are presented here and show benefits of selected reagents. At the pelletizing plant of the Gol-E-Gohar mining and industrial company two parallel dry closed grinding circuits, each with the average throughput of 300 t/h, are used. Each grinding circuit consists of a burner, a dry ball mill (6.2 m×13 m) and an air separator. The ball mill consists of a 2 m-long drying and an 11 m-long grinding chambers. The iron ore concentrate is fed to the drying chamber by a feed chute. The first 1.35 m of the drying chamber consists of 56 flights in two rows to decrease the feed moisture from 5% to below 0.2% and the rest of dryer chamber consists of deflectors to pass the material to the grinding chamber. It was found that when the feed moisture content increased from 1.3% to 3.5%, the throughput decreased by 12% (35 t/h) indicating a low performance of the dryer. Monitoring the wear rate of flights for a period of 12 months showed that the first 0.8 m length of the flights length did not experience any wear. This means that about 59% of flights do not contribute in material distribution and drying. A DEM simulation of feed chute and the drying chamber demonstrated that due to the inappropriate design of feed chute most of materials do not get in touch with the first 0.8 m length of the drying chamber. To overcome this problem, various feed chute designs with different geometries were simulated by the KMPCDEM© software. With the aim of arriving at a proper material trajectory, where the total length of the flights are used, a new feed chute was selected. The simulation results indicated that if the height of the flights is increased from 1.60 to 2.26 m and the slope is increased from 45 to 48 degrees the material arrive at the first 0.48 m of drying chamber. In this manner, the unused part of the drying chamber decreases from 59% to 36% of the length. After installation of the new feed chute, during a period of three months the throughput increased by 36 t/h.

The processing of banded iron ore by direct anionic and reverse cationic flotation to produce pellet grade concentrate is investigated. This low-grade iron ore, known as banded hematite quartzite (BHQ) contains 41.8% Fe, 41.5% SiO2, 1.2% Al2O3, and 0.5% LOI. The flotation behavior of BHQ is studied by varying the effect of concentration of collector, frother, dispersant and pH. Oleic acid and dodecylamine are used as the anionic and cationic collectors respectively. The parameters that gave the best results in cell flotation are utilized in 100 mm diameter flotation column. All the results are compared with regard to the iron grade and recovery in concentrate. It is observed that, anionic collector with dispersant dosage of 220 g/ton, at pH ~8.5 is selective and yielded a high-grade iron concentrate with low silica as impurity. Also, it is possible to achieve an iron concentrate with 64% Fe at 30-37% weight recovery. The characterization studies of the BHQ ore using X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique and liberation analysis with QEMSCAN® are carried out. The sample contains 58.8% hematite and 37.7% quartz and the liberation of hematite particles are found to be 90.3% in -25 µm size. An alternative statistical modeling approach called response surface methodology was also undertaken to optimize the operating parameters in order to maximize the iron grade and recovery. The predicted results by the model are in agreement with the experimental values.

Improving reaction effectiveness of asbestos tailings and acid is main means to increase the productivity of magnesium hydroxide and amorphous silica and to reduce production costs. In this paper, the process optimization of acid-leaching reaction process of asbestos tailings is reported. Through the orthogonal experiments of four influence factors, such as acid consumption, reaction temperature, reaction time and initial acid concentration in the leaching reaction. The experiment results indicated that the optimal process parameters were as follows: reaction temperature was 95?, reaction time was 1.5h, acid consumption was 218.9g hydrochloric acid(37%) per 100g asbestos tailings and initial acid concentration was about 25%. The influence significance sequence of the four factors was as follows: reaction temperature > reaction time > mass concentration of hydrochloric acid > hydrochloric acid consumption. Under the optimum process conditions, the leaching rate of MgO was 97.3%, total iron 98.15% and Al2O3 57.9%.

The floatability of andalusite and associated minerals are studied and their action mechanisms of andalusite and associated minerals with collector alkyl benzene sulphonate are also studied. Through the mensuration of electrical potential and the infrared spectroscopy, as well as desorption tests, it is confirmed that the interaction of andalusite with sodium dodecyl benzene sulphonate (SDBS), is in addition to physical adsorption, but also is chemical adsorption. The study results of the pure minerals are used for the flotation of actual andalusite mineral. By flotation from contain-ing 45.68% andalusite ore, the fine andalusite concentrate is gained which Andalusite grade is 85.88%, containing Al2O355.29% and Fe2O3 less than 1.5%.

In Copper smelter Aurubis Bulgaria, the copper in slag from the Flash furnace and the Converters is recovered by flotation. The scheme of slag processing is crushing, two stage grinding (autogenous and ball) and flotation. Till 2010 the grinding cycle in the plant was in two stages ? the first stage was AG Mill 70?23 working with a classifier and the second stage was ball mill 3.6/5.5 working with a hydrocyclone. In 2010 a new AG Mill 65x78 with hydrocyclone was put in operation in order to increase throughput of the plant. The second stage of the grinding cycle is with the same ball mill. The Old AG mill processed 55-60 t/h slag with particle size -0.071 mm 75% or over 75 t/h with particle size -0.071 mm 35-40 %. The new AG Mill was designed for throughput 105 t/h with particle size -0.071 mm over 70 %. After the start up there were some problems with the equipment ? block up of AG Mill?s grate and pumps for feeding of the hydrocyclone. For optimization of the process a lot of general tests were made. One of the main problem was a wearing of the sand nozzles. Different materials (rubber, ceramic, metallic) for the sand nozzles were tested. The openings of the grate were changed. This paper presents: ? the optimal technological parameters of the old and the new working scheme; ? how the technological parameters of the new working scheme change when the hydrocyclone works with different nozzles; ? the effect of the change of the grate openings; ? the problems with the increase of the circulating load; ? a final decisions for improvement of the grinding cycle work. In recent years many creative technologies are applied to SLon vertical ring and pulsating high gradient magnetic separators. SLon-2500 and SLon-3000 vertical ring and pulsating high gradient magnetic separators are created towards larger scale. Through optimizing the magnetic system and lowering the electric current density, their energy consumption is obviously dropped. New magnetic matrixes are developed to raise the beneficial efficiency of valuable minerals. Special SLon vertical ring and pulsating high gradient magnetic separators are developed which can treat coarser particles of 0-5 mm. Through these technology creations, the mineral processing efficiency of SLon magnetic separators is further raised and their processing cost dropped. Therefore, they have been found wider applications. SLon-2500 applied in Essar Steel of India. In 2007, Essar Steel did a test on its Kirandul hematite ore with SLon magnetic separator and got very good results. The feed grade is 59.77%Fe, after SLon one roughing and one scavenging, the total iron concentrate grade is 65.00%Fe and iron recovery 93.86%. In 2008-2010, the company bought 10 SLon-2500 magnetic separators to treat such iron ores. In 2010 the first SLon-3000 was applied to processing ilmenite. The magnetite-ilmenite deposit is located in Pan Zhi Hua, Si Chuan Province of China. The ore processing flow sheet is: Drum low intensity magnetic separator is used to take out magnetite, and then the SLon-3000 is used to recover ilmenite for roughing. The mags of the SLon-3000 are further cleaned by flotation. The SLon-3000 average operational results are: feed grade 9.52%TiO2, mags grade 17.43%TiO2, mags mass ratio 41.01%, TiO2 recovery 75.09%, non-mags grade 4.02% TiO2, non-mags mass ratio 58.99%. SLon magnetic separators Applied to treat 0-5mm limonite: The feed of SLon magnetic separator is usually 0-2 mm which needs to be ground by ball mill. As many Chinese iron ores are poor grades, if we can throw part of tails before grinding, the grinding cost will be greatly reduced. In 2010, a SLon-1500 and a SLon-2000 were specially built to treat 0-5 mm limonite. The feed grade is 26.51%Fe, mags grade 53.20%Fe, iron recovery 64.26, and tails grade 13.66% Fe. SLon-2500 applied to purify quartz. In 2009, a SLon-2500 magnetic separator was applied to purify quartz in Shan Xi province. Its feed is 0-1mm quartz which contains 0.15%-0.25%Fe2O3, the designed non-mags grade need to be less 0.08% Fe2O3. The production results of SLon-2500 non-mags are 0.05-0.06% Fe2O3, much better than the designed data. SLon applied in Si Jia Ying Iron Mine to recover hematite. Si Jia Ying is a big oxidized iron mine located in He Bei Province of China. In 2005-2010, a plant annually treating 10 million tons of oxidized iron ore was built in which 39 SLon magnetic separators are applied. The total flow sheet results are: Feed grade 30.44%Fe, iron concentrate grade 66%Fe, iron recovery 80%Fe, tails grade 9.65Fe%. SLon applied to recover specularite. Li Lou Iron Mine in An Hui Province of China built a plant annually processing 5 million tons of iron ore in 2010-2011. 25 SLon-2000 magnetic separators are applied to recover specularite. The total flow sheet results are: Feed grade 31.65%Fe, iron concentrate grade 65%Fe, iron recovery 80%Fe, tails grade 10.37%Fe. SLon applied in Da Hong Shan Iron Mine. Da Hong Shan Iron Mine is located in Yun Nan province of China. It treats 4.5 million tons of oxidized iron ore annually. 15 SLon-2000 magnetic separators are applied to recover hematite. The total flow sheet results are: Feed grade 35.61%Fe, iron concentrate grade 64.95%Fe, iron recovery 74.08%Fe, tails grade 15.55%. "The removal of finely dispersed mercury from the effluent of small-scale gold mining operations and the eventual recycling of the recovered mercury was investigated. The conventional method of amalgamation, or “ball milling”, involves the mixing of a substantial amount of mercury with ore to recover free gold during the grinding stage. During grinding, a portion of the mercury is transformed into minute droplets, which readily float and disperse in the effluent. A kilo of gold ore containing 20-30 g Au/t, when ground with 3 g of mercury, yields 0.005 to 0.050 mg/l of mercury in the effluent, exceeding the concentration of 0.002 mg/l allowed by law for surface water.A rapid recovery/ recycling process was introduced using the surface-chemical properties of finely dispersed mercury in aqueous suspension. It was observed that fine droplets of mercury in an aqueous environment readily attached onto a collector having positive surface potentials for pH 3 to 10. An example of a suitable collector is alumina (Al2O3), which has an iso-electric point of pH 9.8. When an effluent, coming from a settling procedure after an amalgamation-grinding stage, was passed through a column-bed packed with alumina fiber, removal and subsequent collection of finely dispersed mercury occurred under acidic conditions, pH 3-6. Recovery was around 99.5%, yielding an acceptable quality of water safe for disposal into the aquatic environment. The collected droplets of mercury, which are left in the column-bed of alumina fiber, were subsequently treated with a cleansing solution at alkaline conditions pH 10 -12. At these conditions, both mercury and alumina fiber carry negative surface potentials, which results in the eventual detachment of attached mercury from the alumina collector. The effective recovery of attached mercury from the alumina collector by the detachment procedure is only 30-35%. The collected mercury from the cleansing stage can be collected, cleaned and can be used for subsequent amalgamation processes. The attachment and detachment behaviour of finely dispersed mercury onto and from the microscopic collector alumina is shown in Figure 1. The result of attachment and detachment were analyzed using existing interaction energy theories like the Darguin-Landau- Verwey- Overbeek (DLVO) Theory."

Calcium carbonate/Titanium dioxide composite, characterized by coating TiO2 on the surface of CaCO3 particles, is an important substitute for titanium dioxide. This paper studies preparation method of CaCO3/TiO2 ,composites based on mechano-chemical effects, measures its properties as a pigment, analyzes the binding form and interface reaction mechanism between CaCO3 and TiO2. Through single finely grinding of CaCO3, co-grinding of CaCO3 together with TiO2, and mecha-no-chemical effects produced in the course of grinding, CaCO3/TiO2 composites can be prepared successfully. Results indicate that grinding fineness of CaCO3, co-grinding time of CaCO3 and TiO2, the weight ratio of grinding media to mineral feeding, and the amount of TiO2 have much influence on the properties of CaCO3/TiO2 composites. CaCO3/TiO2 composites have the properties same as titanium dioxide pigment, oil adsorption and ultraviolet adsorption same as TiO2, and 90% of hiding power as that of TiO2. Wet grinding of CaCO3 causes the production of mechano-chemical effect and hydroxyl group, through which CaCO3 and TiO2 can be bonded together. Repulsion occurs between the particles of CaCO3 and the particles of TiO2, respectively, they are both in good dispersion. But attraction occurs between CaCO3 and TiO2. TiO2 particles are distributed evenly on the surface of CaCO3. Therefore, coating of TiO2 on the surface of CaCO3 particles and chemical bond between them make CaCO3/TiO2 compo-sites have pigment properties of Titanium.
