"In this paper, we present the study’s results of electrical separation processes on the basis of new separator designs, new technological solutions, and newly discovered effects. We considered the options of enrichment by magnet separation of magnetite and titanomagnetite ores, ores and products containing chromium and manganese, ores of non-ferrous and precious metals. During pneumo-electric separation of mixed iron ore of SMPC, 43.3% of the output of the concentrate with an iron content of 61.7% was obtained in one step, with extraction of 70.5%. The paper also presents the results of the finalization on the air-electric separator of the magnetic fraction when separating oxidized ores of MPPOO (mining and processing plant of oxidized ores) on the Jans polygrade magnetic separator. A concentrate was obtained with an iron content of 65.1% with the extraction of 95.0% and tails with an iron content of 13.0%. The possibility of obtaining low-silica concentrates from these ores with an iron content of 67.15 and a quartz of 2.88% is shown. Also, the results of tests on the enrichment of chromite ores on the firing-magnetic scheme with corona-electrostatic separation are considered. On the initial ore of the Don MPP (mining and processing plant), a concentrate with a content of 61.8% Cr2O3 was obtained with a quartz content of ~ 1.0%. The results of pneumo-electric separation with triboelectric charge of the separated particles are presented. The results of the tests indicate a principal possibility of enriching chromite ores without costly high-temperature roasting. Dry technology of enrichment of manganese ores with the use of electrical separation increases the quality of the oxidized concentrate to the first grade and raises the total extraction by 2 times. For the Chineya deposit of titanomagnetite ores with copper impurities, electroseparation operations were carried out on two samples with a Cu content of 1.93 and 3.75%, respectively. For a sample with a Cu content of 6.02%, a copper concentrate output of 24.42% was obtained with a Cu content of 23.82% and the extraction of 94.88%. The results of enrichment by electroseparation of gold-containing sulfide ores can have the practical importance. For ores of the Berezovskoye deposit, a pyritic concentrate containing 100 g / t of gold was obtained after two or three operations of IES (integrated energy systems)."

Efficient enrichment of high-carbon low-grade mica stone coal containing vanadium is a key problem in the mineral processing field, and the mature beneficiation process is yet to be developed and applied. In this paper, a special mineral mica type of stone coal containing vanadium from Tongshan, Hubei Province, China was selected as the research object. Chemical analysis results show that this mineral contains V2O5 0.71%, SiO2 49.28%, C 13.44%, and CaO 6.26%. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) shows that vanadium generally exists in all kinds of mica minerals in 20 µm to 50 µm fractions. Mica stone coal containing vanadium must be ground to a particular fineness (approximately 45 µm). To reduce acid consumption during vanadium extraction from stone coal through acid leaching, a pretreatment process was proposed to enrich micas by using shaking table and flotation methods. A new combined technology process was implemented, resulting in a 0.96% improvement in the vanadium grade of raw materials in the succeeding process. Vanadium losses were controlled to 4.57% through the pre-concentration process, which reduced the burden of the subsequent procedure. The content of high acid consuming minerals was also diminished, such that approximately 6612 CNY was saved from producing 1 t V2O5. Therefore, stone coal containing vanadium should be pre-concentrated by using an appropriate combined process to reduce costs.

"Karagedik Chromite Concentrator of the ETI Holding Co., which is located in Fethiye (south Turkey), has been producing chromite concentrate assaying 47-48 % Cr2O3 from the chromite ores containing 30-35 % Cr2O3 by using gravity separation methods since 1920. The tailings having 13-14 % Cr2O3, which had been removed from this plant, were accumulated at the stockpiles amounting about 1.2 million tons. In order to recover the ultra fine chromite particles from the Karagedik Concentrator tailings, the new process including Wet High Intensity Magnetic Separation and column flotation, was developed and the Karagedik Research Pilot Plant based on this process was commissioned in 2000. At this plant, the final concentrates assaying 46-48% Cr2O3 were produced and overall plant recoveries are about 60-65%.At the chromite concentrators using gravity separation methods, if their material size is about minus 1.0 mm, chromite particles especially pass to fine fractions according to their mineralogical structures and the ore-genesis (Önal and Güney, 1990). Generally, after crushing and grinding, the shaking tables and spirals are used at the chromite concentrators; therefore fine size chromite particles (-0.038 mm) are removed as tailings. Cr2O3 content of the -0.1 mm size fraction with 52.3% of the total amount is 19.58 % with Cr2O3 distribution of 82.6%.In order to upgrade the minus 0.1 mm size fraction of the tailings, assaying about 20% Cr2O3, Karagedik Research Pilot Plant (KRPP), which includes Wet High Intensity Magnetic Separator (WHIMS) and Column Flotation units, was installed by Istanbul Technical University (ITU), Mineral Processing Section in 2000.Feeding material of the KRPP having 5 tons per hour capacity is obtained from stockpiles amounting 1.2 million tons. After attrition scrubbing, the feed is sent to a screen with aperture of 1.0 mm. The screen overflow, assaying 5-6 % Cr2O3 is removed as tailings. Screen underflow is classified to –1.0+0.1 mm and minus 0.1 mm size fractions by using cyclone and sieve bend. –1.0+0.1 mm size fraction assaying 6-7 % Cr2O3, is sent to existing gravity separation plant. Minus 0.1 mm size fraction is firstly fed to WHIMS for pre-concentration and non-magnetic product assaying 10-11 % Cr2O3 consisting of serpentine, talc and olivine minerals are separated as tailings. Also magnetic product (25-30 % Cr2O3) obtained from WHIMS is fed to the two stages conditioners after dewatered to 30 % solid ratio."

In this study, the authors investigated the capability of an acidic thiourea solution and silicon-organic polymers (PSTM-3c, PSTM-3T) as ion-exchange resins to recover of gold from gold-bearing ore concentrates. Firstly, elemental gold present in flotation concentrates was dissolved by leaching with a solution of nitric acid and thiourea under the optimized conditions. The best result on gold thiourea leaching was obtained under a nitric acid concentration of 2 N, thiourea concentration of 2 %, and oxidant (Fe2(SO4)3) concentration of 3 %, solid:liquid ratio (S:L) of 1:20, leaching time of 6 hours at 20 °C with a gold recovery of 93.7 % for a gold flotation (unroasted) concentrate. For the roasted gold concentrate, the dissolution of gold was 94.8% under the optimized leaching condition as nitric acid concentration of 0.5 N, thiourea concentration of 2 %, and the oxidant concentration of 1 %, S:L ratio of 1:10, leaching time of 4 hours at 50 °C. Secondly, a series of sorption tests was carried out on a pregnant leach solution containing gold complex Au[S=C(NH2)2]2+ using silicon-organic polymers (PSTM-3c and PSTM-3T), respectively. The effects of solution pH, adsorption time and temperature in the sorption process are also studied. As the results, the PSTM-3c and PSTM-3T polymers were adsorbed about 94.4 % and 95.1 % gold from the pregnant leach solutions under the optimum sorption conditions, respectively. It was found that the both PSTM-3c and PSTM-3T polymers were effective for the recovery of gold from the pregnant leach solution of thiourea. Adsorption activity of the PSTM-3c and PSTM-3T polymers was confirmed by new peaks near 1700 cm-1 in the FT-IR spectrum of the gold-adsorbed polymers, respectively.

To comprehensively utilize the valuable resource in tailings, increase the economic benefit of mine, reduce the amount of tailings, prolong the service life of tailing dam, the comprehensive utilization of tailing resource is arousing the attention of more and more mines. Research of comprehensive recovery of feldspar and silica from Cu-Mo floatation tailings has been furthered. Technology of "De-sliming-Magnetic Separation-Reverse Flotation-Feldspar and Silica Separation" has been developed to utilize the resource. Slime is removed and reagents cost is reduced by de-sliming. The specific effective collector ZL is used in gangues reverse flotation, and GZ-818 is the collector in feldspar and silica separation. The grinding operation is vital to ensure the liberation degree of feldspar and to eliminate the reagents pollution on minerals surface. To a Cu-Mo flotation tailing assaying K2O 5.22%, Na2O 2.22%, Fe2O3 1.95%, Al2O3 12.05%, SiO270.66%, superfine K-feldspar and silica concentrates can be produced. The feldspar concentrate productivity is 29.67% assaying K2O 8.99%, Na2O 2.86%, Fe2O3 0.16%, Al2O3 16.99% and SiO2 68.92%. The silica concentrate productivity is 14.20% assaying 0.17% K2O, 0.04% Na2O, 0.01% Fe2O3, 0.55% Al2O3 and 98.17% SiO2. The technology provides technological reference model for the similar mines.

With the very effective depressant and collector developed by China Bluestar Lehigh Engineering Corp (hereinafter referred to as LEHIGH), satisfied results are obtained from laboratorial beneficiation tests on phosphate samples from Karatau, Republic of Kazakhstan by the direct flotation process. In this paper the effect of single factors on performance of flotation is studied and their applicable ranges are proposed. The final test results are described as follows: As the feed contains 23.20 % P2O5, and 3.96% MgO, a phosphate concentrate assaying 29.77%P2O5 and 1.54% MgO is produced, and the P2O5 recovery in concentrate is 88.28%. The beneficiation tests make it possible to simplify existing technology with fine grinding-desliming, followed by reverse & direct flotation system and consequently improve the concentrate grade and recovery for the future beneficiation plant

"The study was conducted with the sulfide mineral from the province of Zamora Chinchipe. It was characterized physical, chemical and mineralogical, obtaining between its main results a copper concentration of head ore of 0,58 %. The mineral was homogenized and taken to direct closed circuit: rollers mill - vibratory sieve (mesh # 16). Flotation was carried out in two stages: the collective and selective where in each one were performed 6 water recirculation as suggested by the technique used to relate information of a batch flotation to a continuous circuit called cyclic flotation tests (LCT). In the collective flotation (bulk) 2 Kg of mineral were grinded with 10 Kg of balls for 30 minutes and 62.5% of solids, the pulp was taken to the flotation process with solids percentages of 33.3% and pH 7, it was conditioned with 45 g / t of KAX 1%, 50 g/t of Aerofloat 208 and 20 g /t of Pine oil. The concentrate and tailings bulk obtained were filtered separately for the recovery of water and it was recirculated to the next grinding of 2kg mineral. In the selective flotation 1Kg of bulk concentrate was carried to regrind for 40 min, 62.5% percent of solids, 10 g of lime and 5 g of tannin FLOATAN T5, the pulp was taken to the roughing-collection-refining flotation circuit controlling the pH between 10.5 and 11 where conditioning (60 g/t of Aerofloat 208 and 30 g/t of Pine oil) and adding lime to the circuit and FLOATAN according to the procedure. The four fractions obtained from the circuit were filtered; the water was recirculated to the regrind process of the bulk concentrate. In the collective flotation process tends to stability in the fourth recirculating water to obtain a copper content of 4.5% and a recovery of 87%, recirculated water represents 69.8% of all water used in the 6 recycles. In the selective flotation circuit the fifth recirculating of water is the optimal where obtaining a copper content of 13% and a recovery of 72%, recirculated water in the selective flotation circuit represents 95% of the total water used in the 6 recycles."

"Clays are present in a large number of mineral deposits and are commonly found as gangue. Its complex chemical structure, characterised by anisotropic surfaces, makes its presence a permanent challenge for flotation operations, increasing the reagent consumption, decreasing the quality of the concentrate, and changing the rheological properties of the system. In this context, the main objective of this research is to improve the floatability of chalcopyrite minerals in the presence of clays by using guar gum, a low molecular weight organic polymer, which acts as a surface coating agent for clays. Clay Minerals Society provided the kaolinite sample and the chalcopyrite sample was purified from mineralized rock specimens obtained from Ward’s Natural Science Establishment. Micro flotation tests were carried out in a 150 cm3 Partridge-Smith cell, using compressed air as the gas phase at a flow rate of 80 cm3/min. Potassium amyl xanthate (PAX) and methyl isobutyl carbinol (MIBC) were used as a collector and a frother, respectively. The results showed that the use of guar gum improves the recovery of chalcopyrite in the presence of kaolinite because it induces the formation of clay aggregates that settle by gravitational effects, preventing the 'coating effect' and decreasing excessive collector consumption. pH played a key role in the guar gum performance, which was most effective at highly alkaline conditions (pH 11), where the copper recovery improved from 73% to 90%. The work has significant implications for the mineral flotation in the presence of clay minerals.INTRODUCTION The mining industry is continuously confronted with challenges that alert the sustainability of the sector. There is little availability of water, the grade of the deposits are getting smaller, and the gangue is becoming more complex. Usually, clays are part of the gangue in numerous systems, including copper ore, porphyry, nickel, platinum, etc. (Senior & Thomas, 2005). The structure is mainly composed of layers of tetrahedral silica (T) and octahedral alumina (O) that join in certain proportions: 1: 1 (T-O) and 2: 1 (T-O-T) (Theng, 2012). Also, they expose two crystallographically different surfaces: the faces, which tend to be negatively charged, and the edges, which carry a charge that changes from positive to negative depending on the pH (Van Olphen, 1977). One of the most common clays in copper deposits is kaolinite, whose structure is composed of an octahedral sheet of gibbsite bound to a tetrahedral silica sheet in the ratio 1:1"

"Chromite ore is an indispensable raw material in the manufacture of ferro-chrome and charge-chrome, which are used for the production of stainless and other alloy steels. The demand for chromite ore is ever increasing because of increasing consumption of these steels. Keeping this in view, Tata Steel is keen to recover values from fines and wastes, and also to produce value added products from their captive chromite mines and its processing plants.Tata Steel has its captive chromite resources at Sukinda, Orissa. They contain two ore types, i.e. (i) Ferruginous and (ii) Siliceous. The generation of off-grade ores is an increasing trend and simultaneously customer quality requirements are becoming ever more stringent. The ferruginous type ore also contains a considerable quantity of in-situ fines (~20% particles below 0.5 mm) that compound the beneficiation problem.In many places, in India and abroad, mined non-marketable off-grade and low grade chromite ores are upgraded by using either simple classification techniques like screw classification, hydrosizing, hydrocycloning or conventional gravity concentration processes such as Heavy media separation, Jigging, Spiraling, Tabling etc.At Tata Steel, the ferruginous type ores are treated in Chrome Ore Beneficiation (COB) Plant that comprises: a crushing and grinding circuit; a classification circuit using hydrocyclones; and a beneficiation circuit using 4 stage spirals in the coarse circuit (-0.5+0.1 mm) and 3 stage spirals & tables in the fine circuit (-0.1+0.038 mm). In this process, 3 types of tailings are being generated and together analyses about 17 % Cr2O3, which is high. From the present operation the chromite recovery is around 70% and could not produce coarse concentrates (+0.5 mm size). Whereas the siliceous type ore is treated in the Lumpy Ore Processing (LOP) plant, consisting of crushing-washing & classification-hand sorting operations, to produce marketable grade lumpy ore and –10 mm de-slimed fines. These fines are intermittently treated in the COB plant. The higher silica content (greater than 1%) and low Cr/Fe ratio (less than 2.8) are the problems with these concentrates."

"Microflotation studies and abstraction experiments were conducted with synthetic oxide spinels relating to chromite (MgCr2O4, FeCr2O4, FeFe2O4 and FeAl2O4), using sodium oleate as collector. An attempt was done to correlate this data with the speciation of oleate in the bulk solution and at the interface solid-water, to explain the floatability curves. The microflotation tests were conducted using a microflotation cell. The abstraction of sodium oleate was measured at 25°C, with one gram of synthetic spinel and the abstraction time was 30 minutes. After centrifuging, the residual oleate concentration in the supernatant was measured by using the spectrophotometric method described by Mizuniwa et al. (1977), that covers the range from 1.5 to 9 ppm. To cover the range from 0.2 to 1.5 ppm, the residual oleate concentration was measured using the spectrophotometric method described by Gregory (1966). The amount of oleate abstracted was calculated from the difference between initial and residual (equilibrium) concentrations.Figure 1 shows the floatability of FeCr2O4, FeAl2O4, FeFe2O4, MgCr2O4 as a function of pH and sodium oleate concentration of 1 x 10-5 M. The IEP of each sample is indicated in the figure by a vertical line in the horizontal axis. The chromium-bearing spinels FeCr2O4 and MgCr2O4 show the lowest isoelectric points (IEP), around pH 6, while in the case of FeFe2O4 and FeAl2O4, the isoelectric points lie at pH 6.5 and 7.3, respectively. It is seen that the flotation-pH curve for FeFe2O4 has a peak at the pH of the IEP, while flotation peak for FeCr2O4 appears at pH below the IEP and that of MgCr2O4 does at pH above the PZC. On the other hand, FeAl2O4 is floated at pH range between about 4 and 7,3 (IEP). This suggests that the pH value at which the maximum flotation occurs is dependent on the sort of spinel to be floated, though it appears in the vicinity of the respective IEP."

"The three kinds of phosphate ores (igneous, metasedimentary and sedimentary) found in China have great differences in flotation flowsheets and reagents suite because of their crystal structure and mineral composition. The igneous and metasedimentary apatites have good floatability with fatty acid as collector and waterglass, sodium hydroxide or sodium carbonate as conditioners. The sedimentary phosphate is very difficult to beneficiate by direct flotation because of their poor floatabilities and relatively high content of MgO and SiO2, even though the dolomite depressants are used sometimes.The differences in floatability of apatites in China are closely related to their differences in specific surface area. The amount of collector to float apatite increases with the specific surface area. Apatite with lower specific surface area showed good floatability at lower collector concentration. Apatite with a higher specific surface area needed a higher concentration of collector. The content of CO3 2- will affect the specific surface area of apatite by distortion of its crystal structure and consequently affect its floatability.Dolomite can be easily rejected from apatite in a weak acidic medium (pH=5), especially in phosphoric acid medium by reverse flotation. Quartz and siliceous gangue in sedimentary apatite can be removed by direct flotation using fatty acid or by reverse flotation using amine. Amine is not practically applied because sedimentary apatite in China is usually very fine and needs fine grinding, which always results in excessive, very fine, stable and non-flowable foam.Based on the floatability of phosphate ore in China, a two-stage flotation process, direct and reverse flotation (D+R), was developed to beneficiate sedimentary ore. For the Haikou phosphate ore containing 25.11% P2O5, 3.46% MgO and 16.5% SiO2, a concentrate containing 31.84% P2O5, 0.48% MgO and 14.8% SiO2 can be obtained through a continuous D+R test at a recovery of 89%."

Pregnant leach solutions from waste of printed circuit boards (WPCB) leaching contain many impurity metals (Fe in particular) at significant levels. These impurities should be reduced to acceptable levels to avoid problems in downstream recovery processes e.g., low current efficiencies in electro-winning of copper from sulfate solutions in the presence of ferric. In this study, removal of iron in the form of goethite from synthetic (30 g/L Cu2+ and 1 M SO42-) and real leach solutions of WPCB was studied in some detail. The influences of initial concentration of iron (1-4.5 g/L Fe3+), pH (2.5-4.0), temperature (80-90°C) and seeding (23.5 g/L) were investigated over a period of 4 h. A significant increase in the iron precipitation was observed (i.e., from 68% to 96% over 4 h) with rising the pH from 2.5 to 4.0. The addition of seeds had also increased the removal rate over 4 h albeit to a limited extent i.e., from 96% to 99%. For the real leach solutions of sulfate (H2SO4-H2O2) and sulfate/chloride leaching (H2SO4-CuSO4-NaCl), precipitation of iron was found to be 63-73% (pH 2.5) and 93-98% (pH 4.0), respectively. The precipitates were further characterised by SEM-EDS analysis which showed the presence of copper (1-25%) in the precipitates indicating significant copper co-precipitation from the solution. These copper losses can be attributed to the formation of copper compounds such as anthlerite and brochantite within the range of pH (2.5-4.0) tested. This study showed that iron can be readily removed from synthetic/real leach solutions of WPCBs to a large extent (=93%) at the expense of high copper losses particularly at pH 4.0.

The production of phosphate concentrates (phosphate rock) from slimes represents a challenge to the phosphate industry worldwide. In Brazil, this challenge is particularly relevant due to the consistently low P2O5 grades and the igneous origin. The Brazilian phosphate deposits are made up mainly of apatite from alkaline chimneys, representing 80% of the Brazilian reserves; phosphorite deposits contribute 18% and the other sources (guano, phosphorous bauxite, and apatite from veins) reach 2%. The Brazilian industry beneficiates phosphate ores that are mineralogically more complex than those treated elsewhere. The low apatite grade, inherent to the igneous Brazilian ores, added to the mineralogical complexity due to the weathering of the rocks, has represented a permanent challenge to the Brazilian process engineers. The total measured, indicated and inferred reserves reach 3.2 million tonnes of ore with average grade 11% P2O5. The development of local technology for phosphate beneficiation started in the 1960’s. The first industrial experiences of producing phosphate rock from slimes (-44µm or -325#) fraction started at Arafertil, currently Bunge Fertilizantes SA, in Araxá, in the 1980’s. This production corresponds, nowadays, to 35% of the total production of concentrates in the company (830,000t/year) in a circuit consisting of desliming in 40mm microcyclones and concentration in flotation columns, corn starch and fatty acids being utilised as reagents. The performance of slimes flotation and the process control, at Bunge´s concentrator, were improved after the introduction of column flotation technology, in the first half of the nineties. The column flotation technology for slimes recovery was expanded to other Brazilian concentrators still in the nineties: Ultrafértil (Catalão – GO), Bunge (Cajati – SP), Fosfértil (Tapira – MG) and Copebrás (Catalão – GO). At present the Brazilian production of phosphate rock is approximately 4.5Mt/year, with a strong trend for a market increase. Genuinely Brazilian technology is utilised for the processing of slimes, the concentrates representing 11 to 13% of the overall production. The production of apatite concentrates from slimes was relevant to increase phosphate recovery and reduce costs, contributing to the growth of the fertilisers industry.

Next generation flotation agents of KSK series for the concentration of complex copper-lead ores and the new ferromagnetic nanosized depressor of galena are introduced in this work. The feature of the KSK flotation agents is that they exhibit both frother and collector properties. KSK-6 can successfully substitute the widely used in Kazakhstani industry reagent ?-80 at the reduced consumption of butyl xanthate by 30 %. The new ferromagnetic nanosized depressor of galena, besides a low consumption rate of 100 g/t, also makes possible to exclude sodium sulfite (3-4 kg/t) and ferrous sulfate (5-6 kg/t) from the separation process, and receive high metal grade concentrates. A complex rare metal ore, containing various valuable elements is used in this study. The mineralogy results indicate that the mineral composition of the raw ore is complex, and there are more than thirty-eight kinds of minerals in the raw ore, and the elements, such as Nb, Ti, Fe, REO, Be etc, always form isomorphism relationship. The REO content of the raw ore is 0.45%, and the contents of other rare metals Nb, Ta, Ti and Zr are 0.33%, 0.02%, 0.93% and 2.00% respectively, and the main gangue elements are Si and Al, and their contents are 71.84% and 8.5% respectively. The beneficiation-metallurgy combination process of ?preconcentration-reduction and magnetic separation-acidification and leaching-precipitation? is used to treat the raw ore. The preconcentration of raw ore is realized through high intensity magnetic separation, and the magnetic field intensity is 1.0T, and the rough concentrate with 2.88% REO and 1.95% Nbresidue can be obtained, and the iron recovery is 92.83%, and the REO recovery is 95.87%, and the Nbresidue is treated by hydrometallurgy process of ?acidification-leaching-precipitation?, then the rare earth oxide, niobium concentrate and zircon-bearing residue can be obtained, and the REO recovery is 80.10% and the Nbresidue and the gangue obtained from the high intensity magnetic separation process is separated by gravity separation, and then the zirconium concentrate can be obtained. The indexes of the beneficiation-metallurgy combination process used to treat the complex rare metal ore are as follows. The REO content of the rare earth oxide is 92.58% and the recovery is 58.44%. The Nb2O5 and 27.42% TFe can be obtained. Iron in rough concentrates is removed after reduction and low intensity magnetic separation, then the iron powder with Fe content over 88% and nonmagnetic rare-metal 2O5 recovery is 94.77%. The rare-metal 2O5 recovery is 80.04%. The mixture of the zircon-bearing 2O5 content of niobium concentrate is 28.34% and the recovery is 54.02%. The ZrO2 content of zirconium concentrate is 28.43% and the recovery is 52.35%. The TFe of iron powder is 89.53% and the recovery is 78.13%. "The present paper summarises the results of gravity pneumatic concentration of a borax ore with 17.5 % B2O3. The sample was extracted from the Tincalayu ore deposit located in the Salta Province of Argentina.The applied methodology was based on a former study (Zuleta, 1985). It consisted of sample characterization by means of physical and mineralogical determinations, chemical analyses as well as pneumatic table concentration tests. In this, a simplified concentrating flowsheet was utilized.A concentrate with 30.6 % B2O3 and 74.7 % recovery was obtained. The recovery was 8.8 % less than previously reported and that was of 30.6 % B2O3 with 87 % recovery. Nevertheless, the simplified flow sheet presented processes only two granulometric fractions, - 6.4 mm + 0.3 mm and - 0.3 mm, compared to the three granulometric fractions used in the previous study: - 6.4 mm + 1.4 mm; - 1.4 mm + 0.3 mm and . 0.3 mm. This would simplify industrial implementation."

In view of the shortage of soft water all over the Middle East countries, seawater may be used to replace the fresh water in flotation beneficiation. The flotation process required about 7 m3 of fresh water/ ton ore. This article aimed to study the effect of seawater cations and anions on the flotation process of four important mineral commodities. The adsorption of collector, zeta-potential, zero point of charge and floatability of pure minerals were studied. The individual effects of different cations and anions that are predominant in seawater, within their more or less actual concentrations were studied on individual mineral and on groups of them. The troublesome Ca2+ and Mg2+ ions, in the anionic circuit could be controlled by soda ash addition to the pulp before the anionic collector. The addition of sodium silicate improved the floatation selectivity of mineral mixtures and natural ore. At the optimum conditions the calcareous phosphate ore yielded a concentrate recovery of 83% with a grade of 34% P2O5, with 0.61%MgO, which from an ore assaying (25.3% P2O5 and 9.4% MgO).

Low-grade bauxite with A/S of 4.4 from Henan province was used as raw material and the selec-tive grinding of bauxite, grinding efficiency, particle size and Al2O3 and SiO2distributions of ground products were investigated using ball and vibration mills. The results show that the selective grinding can be used to realize the separation of aluminum from silicon within a certain particle size. The optimal grinding conditions of the ball mill with bauxite are as follows: grinding material to charge ratio, 1.2, charge volume ratio, 40%, pulp con-centration, 70wt%, medium size distribution, F30mm:F20mm:F15mm=20%:50%:30%. Under the conditions, the weight rate of ground product with A/S over 7.5 is 27% and the recovery of Al 2O3is 30%. The optimal grinding condition of the vibration mill with bauxite are as follows: grinding material to charge ratio, 0.9; charge volume ratio, 70%; concentration, 70%; medium size distribution, F40mm:F30mm:F20mm=20%:30%:50%. Under the conditions, the weight ratio of ground product with A/S over 7.5 is 25% and the recovery of Al 2O3is 27%. The research is significant for the rational and economical utilization of the low-grade bauxite.

Structural impurities in the crystal lattice of rock phosphate of Indian origin is a great challenge for beneficiation and practically possesses remote scope of upgradation to the desired level for industrial utilization. There is a wide occurrence of rock phosphate in different parts of India with different characteristics viz. siliceous, carbonaceous and ferruginous. The structural cationic replacement in the composition of apatite is due to the exchangeable cations present in the external impurities associated with the rock phosphate ore. The Indian rock phosphate ore from Purulia district, West Bengal is characterized as unusual structural composition due to the exchangeable cation in its composition. The elemental distribution of ore exhibits the disproportionate ratio of P2O5 and CaO which is 5.88: 3.31 in reference to the theoretical composition of P2O5: CaO in apatite which is 4.23: 5.55. The substitution by trivalent Al+++ cations within the structure of apatite in place of divalent Ca++ is found upto 18% and substitution of exchangeable cation in place of PO4 and F ion by CO3/SO4 is found upto 0.1% and OH ions upto 0.2% respectively in a lattice of apatite thereby diluting the grade of rock phosphate and restricting its industrial use even after beneficiation. This paper reveals the unusual compositional features of rock phosphate under study and is a guideline to the mineral industries using such rock phosphate. During incineration of municipal solid waste (MSW), some heavy metals and other environmentally harmful elements are liberated into bottom ash. The stricter environmental regulations require a higher immobilization efficiency of the ash before its safe disposal and application. Vitrification is one of the promising options, and has the advantages of high destruction efficiency of organics, high immobilization of heavy metals, and large volume reduction. The main components of the vitrified slag are SiO2, CaO, Al2O3, Fe2O3, Na2O and MgO, and the compositions have direct effect on the glass formation during vitrification, and further on the physical and mechanical properties of the slag. To provide essential data for the utilization of bottom ash as vitrified slag, the phase relations and thermodynamic properties of the oxide system need to be systematically investigated. In the present study, the liquidus temperature of the typical vitrified bottom ash slag was determined by using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) measurement. High temperature equilibrium experiments were conducted to investigate the phase relations of the sub oxide system of CaO-SiO2-Na2O by means of Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Electron Microprobe Analysis (EMPA) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD). The results show that the melting temperature of the vitrified bottom ash is around 930°C. In the CaO-SiO2-Na2O system with less than 50 mol% SiO2, the liquidus temperature de-creases with increasing amounts of Na2O along the tie-line of Na2O-Ca3Si2O7. Two compounds Na2Ca3Si2O8 and Na4Ca8Si5O20 are identified in the oxide system.
