Abstract
A recent case of failure of a-low karat gold alloy by stress-corrosion cracking is of interest because it illustrates a principle frequently overlooked: the relation between high residual stress and high yield point. The alloy contained     Gold, per cent 39.6   Copper, per cent 51.1   Silver, per cent 5.2   Nickel. per cent 3. 1   Zinc, per cent 1.0    Tension tests on the alloy showed the following:
